[Bug 1080890] Re: gtk2 file chooser slow
I can absolutely confirm this issue. For example, it does not matter which gtk file manager you use, they are all very slow for opening large directories (even on ssd) with many files (For Qt based filemangers as dolphin, this is not a problem). For example take nautilus and try to open /usr/lib or /usr/bin. This takes much too long. Every gtk application (it does not matter if gtk2 or gtk3) I have tried so far is very slow at browsing files. This has been reported so many times (in most of the cases for nautilus) and still the situation has not changed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1080890 Title: gtk2 file chooser slow To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+2.0/+bug/1080890/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1085604] [NEW] Gedit taking 100% at launch, then crashing.
Public bug reported: Hi, I’ve tried to open a document with Gedit. This document wasn’t probably meant to be done than way, but anyway, Gedit taked 100% CPU for some minutes. This bug report has been done while it was running. I’ve then killed it with signal 4 (SIGILL), and Apport launched, rapporting a bug, but without allowing me to describe the situation… There thus might be a duplicate of this bug somewhere, with a SIGILL signal instead. How to reproduce it: → Get this file : ftp://ftp.ims.uni-stuttgart.de/pub/corpora/french-par-linux-3.2-utf8.bin.gz → Open it with File-roller. → Double-click on the unique file in it, launching Gedit. [Bug 988949] Re: cannot inhibit gnome screensaver via gnome-screensaver-command
xdg-screensaver requires a windowid to suspend it. Once that window disappears, gnome-screensaver automatically resumes. I was having a problem with mplayer not inhibiting gnome-screensaver, so I wrote this bash alias to inhibit it for mplayer: alias xdg-screensaver-mplayer-suspend=xdg-screensaver suspend $(wmctrl -l | sed -nr 's/^(0x[0-9a-f]+).+mplayer.*/\1/p') Obviously, you also need wmctrl installed to use it. Whenever I have mplayer running, I just run xdg-screensaver-mplayer-suspend You could do the same thing with skype: alias xdg-screensaver-skype-suspend=xdg-screensaver suspend $(wmctrl -l | sed -nr 's/^(0x[0-9a-f]+).+skype.*/\1/ip') Or, if you have YouTube in a separate window: alias xdg-screensaver-youtube-suspend=xdg-screensaver suspend $(wmctrl -l | sed -nr 's/^(0x[0-9a-f]+).+youtube.*/\1/ip') You would just put the command you want into ~/.bashrc Yes, this is a big hassle, and gnome-screensaver-command should be fixed to support inhibit again, but it's a usable workaround for the time being. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/988949 Title: cannot inhibit gnome screensaver via gnome-screensaver-command To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-screensaver/+bug/988949/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 936257] Re: the system settings grid shouldn't use a fixed geometry
I look forward to testing 13.04. Hard to believe that a few windows properties settings can be such a pain, but I do understand that the man-power shortage can cause problems. I think a lot of it can be solved by doing a more assiduous QA inside the heads of the programmers. They seem to be an uncaring lot. Wastn't true of them when I was running a programming shop. [Bug 277404] Re: hp laserjet postscript text print does not print some characters
Your criticism is noted. However, this bug is already solved, or likely solved. HP just hasn't implemented the fix. And, there's likely no other solution aside from using capitol letters. ;-) It would be more helpful if you provided better information. As such, only seems two solutions, either use all capitol letters or buy another manufacturer's hardware. Nothing wrong with using all capitol letters when a bug not fixed with a resolution goes unoticed and unfixed for so long. It would also be rational for people to start thinking their printer is broken at the hardware level since a fix wasn't implemented upstream. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/277404 Title: hp laserjet postscript text print does not print some characters To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/277404/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

The last 2 comments from tshmelcher and sami-kankaristo (and others earlier in this ticket) may be relevant to a different bug 477644, but not this one. *This* bug is *not* about encrypted PDFs. As mdotychar noted above: This bug has absolutely nothing to do with PDF encryption. This bug centers on the inability to successfully saves PDFs with embedded forms once you begin to input data into those forms. Do you know if Debian plan to do the same transition soon (at least in experimental)? [Bug 1085748] [NEW] Can not set the location of my music library in rhythmbox
Public bug reported: If I go to Preferences-Music-Library Location, then the Music files are placed in: text box is set to Multiple locations set. I then click the browse button next to it to change the location. I select the top level folder of my Music library but it does not seem to be applied. The text box remains set to Multiple locations set. I have extracted some music from an audio cd to my Music folder. Rhythmbox does not load these into its libary. I think this could be related to the above problem. [Bug 1067876] Re: [quantal] Missing Safely Remove Drive and Eject options from Quicklists. Only have Unmount.
Actually, you have to unmount all partitions first to avoid filesystem corruption. That's the one thing that is absolutely critical. After that, yes, remove power if you can. However the reason why Gnome is treating this bug as Won't Fix is because there are too many device types that are unsafe to power down. Devices like optical drives and card readers that look like internal devices to you, but to the OS are USB devices in some cases. So Linux thinks they're safe to power down (which you can't recover from without rebooting). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1067876 Title: [quantal] Missing Safely Remove Drive and Eject options from Quicklists.
