[Bug 1077289] Re: Lubuntu 12.04 missing libpam-gnome-keyring

2013-01-03 Thread Duckhook
The fix/workaround is as follows:

1. Do:

sudo apt-get install libpam-gnome-keyring

2. Logout
3. Login
4. When the pop-up for unlocking the default keyring comes up, do not simply
type in the password to unlock. Instead, click details and select the
automatically unlock this keyring on login radio button. Then enter your
password to unlock the default keyring. You will now have linked the default
keyring to the login keyring. Even if the pam module was installed, it is
possible that the link was not established. In that case, the last portion of
these instructions may still solve the problem.

[Bug 265033] Re: Form contents are invisible when cursor leaves field, but data is still saved in form.

2013-01-03 Thread Franck
Bug is still present in Ubuntu 12.10 / evince 3.6.0-0ubuntu2.

Opening a document with forms, data filled in forms just won't show. It
won't print either. Going in the form field (once you know there is one
!) shows the data, until you leave the field.

Works just fine in Okular (okular ask if you want to show/hide the
form).

Makes evince quite unusable, as for every pdf you open, you are
uncertain if the complete document is shown...

[Bug 1095674] Re: Software-Sources and Ubuntuone missing from gnome-control-center in Raring

2013-01-03 Thread Jeremy Bicha
This was an intentional change as the Ubuntu GNOME Remix is trying to
ship a mostly pure GNOME experience which means we want to ship System
Settings as close as possible to how GNOME intends.

Also, Ubuntu One and Software Sources don't integrate right with System
Settings as they are external pop-ups instead of embedded into the
main window. Those items are still available in the Activities Overview,
just not System Settings.

You can run
XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=Unity gnome-control-center
to get the Unity System Settings experience.

[Bug 1072129] Re: SRU: Evince crashes after opening certain PDF file (due to poppler)

2013-01-03 Thread Brian Murray
Hello mschaeffler, or anyone else affected,

Accepted poppler into quantal-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/poppler/0.20.4-0ubuntu1.1 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 872054] Re: Cannot shutdown/restart with multiple users logged in

2013-01-03 Thread alf.sa...@gmail.com
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 861171 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/861171

This problem still persists in 12.04 and 12.10, at least with Unity (if that
matters).
My solution is to shutdown via a terminal session, which works well (as long as
sudo is used).

Work-around:
 1. Open a terminal
 2. Type either of the following to shutdown or restart:
..$ sudo shutdown now
..$ sudo shutdown -r now

rendered as 'Ctrl+Alt L'. I tried using Ctrl+Alt+1 to activate the shortcut,
but nothing happend. Also I found that if you press the Alt key before the Ctrl
key when entering the shortcut, then it will render as 'Alt+Control L'.
- This doesn't happen if I use numpad to enter the one. Also, I can make
shortcuts using 0,2-9 with out any problems.
+ This doesn't happen if I use the numpad to enter the one. Also, I can make

+ Edit: I have the caps lock key mapped to the ctrl key. This only happens when
I use the caps lock key for ctrl. I can create the correct key sequence if I
use the real ctrl key, but I still can't activate that shortcut if I use caps

[Bug 861171] Re: Shutdown from greeter does nothing when multiple accounts open

2013-01-03 Thread alf.sa...@gmail.com
I'd say go for your Alt A, Robert, and I agree that an authentication
dialogue is better than the vanilla conf dialogue exactly like you say;
This will definitely make the general wife or brother pause to think
3 seconds before shutting down killing other sessions.

I guess that power button is accessable to the common user in about 98%
of all use cases, and therefore I also agree that any user should be
able to perform a proper shutdown if he/she is working locally (either
from greeter or from session). HOWEVER, this makes it VERY important to
keep in mind what Matthew says about really being pushy on the
user...really trying to make him understand that this is serious
business. (This learning also comes from Windows where quite a few of us
have lost work due to the fact that wife/brother actually shut down the
computer without even thinking about other users. Well...maybe not THAT
many of us, since I guess Windows in general is considered a 1 user
system in more cases than unix.)

In the mean time (work-around):
For anyone with slight tech knowledge (like myself, and I emphasise slight in
this sentence), they are likely to have sudo permissions and be able to perform
'shutdown now' from a terminal anyway.

Thanks a lot to you guys in the team who actually FIX things for all of
us others who're just whining!!

:-) alfs

[Bug 1067876] Re: [quantal] Missing Safely Remove Drive and Eject options from Quicklists. Only have Unmount.

2013-01-03 Thread Jan Tománek
Excuse me, is there any way it could get fixed in Ubuntu, evethough
Gnome guys decided they won't fix it? There surely must be a way to
recognise HDDs from card readers. A script that would do it is nice, but
needs more clicks, can't we just have the old feature back?

This Gnome approach to things makes me a bit angry and wishing bad
things to people.

[Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult

2013-01-03 Thread Aleve Sicofante
Hey, five years and a half and grabbing handlers (not just windows
resizers) is still buggy in Ubuntu.

What puzzles me is, why is it easy to grab the left, right and bottom
edges of the screen and it's almost imposible to grab the top edge, pane
borders in some apps and many other handlers? Isn't there a single way
for grabbing a handler? Shouldn't it be? What's so difficult about it
that it's taking those many years for such a basic feature on a GUI?

[Bug 1067901] Re: can't configure any accounts in empathy

2013-01-03 Thread Lee Hyde
I've GOA, UOA and gnome-control-center-signon installed (as well as the
various webaccount plugins), but whenever I attempt to set up an account
(be it facebook, google, windows live, etc…) I'm shown the
authentication page momentarily and then the control centre just flashes
back to the UOA start page. I don't even have enough time to entre my
username before I'm abruptly sent back to the beginning.

In it's current state, I can't use empathy at all. How on Earth did
12.10 get released in this state?! That'll teach me to stray from LTS I
guess. All thus guff with GOA vs UOA is a headache and frankly this is
making Ubunuty 12.10 look very unattractive for me. For now, I'm using
pidgin, but if things don't start to look up soon, I think I'll take
this opportunity to give Elementary Luna or some other distro a bash via
a fresh install.

[Bug 1076716] Re: Extract Here fails to preserve timestamps (non-empty folders)

2013-01-03 Thread Ernie 07
In my daily work archives are created to preserve snapshots of work in
progress. In addition, they are extracted and the before/after folder
structures are compared via Beyond Compare. IF Nvidia drivers would stop
randomly hanging and thus forcing power resets, I might be able to
reduce archiving activities significantly.

1. Should I advise my less-technical associates to SHUN Nvidia hardware
because Nvidia continues to demonstrate that driver quality is not
important?

2. Should I advise my less-technical associates to SHUN Ubuntu One and
ALL versions of Ubuntu after 12.04 including any MOBILE offerings
because bugs like this one do not get fixed?

2013-01-03 Thread axel
just seems to follow the trend of our time that others seem to know better
whats good for you and use their power and ignorance to stick to their
conviction ;)
contrary to aleve (#333) i find it harder to grab any edge other than the top
one (i'm on unity-2d).
often having to use the touchpad of my notebook and resizing windows though it
has been a pain for a long time now and its sad that the situation has not
really improved.
at least this issue seems to have got some attention as hundredpapercuts seems
to have this on their list. i just wonder where their fix (status released)
will become visible...

 Bug description:
   *

This should mostly be fixed for Natty and might get backported to
   earlier releases as well.

For Precise (12.04) this is again broken for unity-2d (as of 17.7.2012
 unity-2d 5.12.0-0ubuntu1.1).
Note that if the window has a scrollbar, you can grab that to resize the
window. If not, you are stuck with the 1px border. Workaround: NONE KNOWN
 (see comment 320)?

   *

   *Blueprint for Natty, Ubuntu 11.04:

   https://blueprints.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/packageselection-
   dx-n-resizing-windows

   Work items1 * Make sure the new resize grip fits in current applications;
doesn't interfere with anything. We should make some noise about this during
the Natty cycle so people keep their eyes open and file bugs.
2 * Invisible window resize area - around 3px invisible area to allow
 resize on all sides.

   *

Working grip backported to gtk2 already available in ppa :
   https://launchpad.net/~bratsche/+archive/gtk

   *

   Workaround: Edit /usr/share/themes/Ambiance/metacity-1/metacity-
theme-1.xml. Set the following values in frame_geometry_normal as
   desired:

   distance name=left_width value=3/
   distance name=right_width value=3/
   distance name=bottom_height value=3/

   Binary package hint: metacity

   - The issue has been an issue for users (especially of large) screens
for several releases- Trackpad users seem to be particularly impacted
by this- The issue appears to have been significantly aggravated in
Lucid by changing the border width from 3 pixels to 1 pixel

The window borders in metacity are far too thin to be used for
comfortable window resizing, and resize handles are not available in
all applications (or even most). In fact, of all the windows I have
open right now, not a single one of them has a resize handle. The
result is that I get a lot of misses when I try to drag a window
border, which usually results in my clicking on the wrong window
altogether. The best fix for this usability bug is to create an
invisible region around each non-maximized window about 4px thick
that can be used for resizing (in addition to the visible border). Or
perhaps there should be a border thickness option on the System
Preferences Windows dialog (although the default thickness should
still be increased considerably). Ideally all windows would also have
a resize handle but I realize that these have to be application
controlled (at least that seems to be the position of the metacity
   team).
