[Bug 1096693] Re: [Asus M4A88TD-M/USB3, Realtek ALC892, SPDIF Out, Internal] No sound at all

2013-01-06 Thread Dave Lentz
Please focus on one issue per bug report (and USE LESS CAPS). Ubuntu
10.04 probably needs a much newer kernel to get Realtek ALC892 working,
so we'll focus on Ubuntu 12.10. It seems like everything is working
correctly there except Totem crashing. Please start totem from the
terminal, crash it, and attach the output.

Note that your poor resolution is probably due to having fglrx/Catalyst
driver still installed from Ubuntu 12.04 and the version in Ubuntu 12.10
doesn't support your GPU ( bug 1058040 ). Attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log/

[Bug 410636] Re: Right-click should not pre-light first option, too easy to accidentally select the first Context-menu option.

2013-01-06 Thread Anton Veretenenko
Moving menu some pixels away does not fix an issue. Like Aditya Sharma
mentioned right-click and release act as 2 clicks.
And I can confirm that if you keep moving mouse to the right while
right-click+release then you get menu entry selected at a 100% rate.
I use Eclipse and when right-clicking on project in project explorer I many
times get "open new window" auto selected. I do right-click+release then menu
appears some ms after then menu disappears and new window opens, I even don't
get highlighted menu entry to show.
My vision of fixing this issue is to disable second click event on release if
some defined very short delay not reached.

[Bug 1053783] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 - Stalled shutdown after having had KAlarm opened; with package info.

2013-01-06 Thread Innocent Bystander
I have exactly the same problem. In fact it gets worse. If I force the
shut down I find that on restart a full file system check is forced and
I am getting file system corruption!!!

My workaround is to log off before I shutdown. I log off and get a
message that an unknown program is running and I force the logoff. Then
I shut down. This seems to avoid the problem of file system corruption.
However it means that shutdown has an annoying 2 minute wait (for the
program to be terminated during logon) then I have to shut down.

Another workaround is to press the restart button on the computer. If I
do this there is no annoying 2 minute wait and no file system
corruption. It amazes me that hitting the red button is less problematic
than doing an orderly shutdown.

So there are several problems here

1. I run kalarm and terminate it correctly. This results in a problem shutting
the system down and at best a 2 minute delay. Problem #1.
2. The name of the offending program that is delaying the shutdown is not
displayed. You only get "unknown". Problem number
#2.
3. There is a 2 minute delay after you choose to force termination of the
program. Problem #3
4. File system check forced on restart. Problem #4.
5. File system corruption detected on restart. Problem #5.

This is the flakiest linux install since Slackware with Linux 0.99 which
was flaky mainly due to the X driver.

[Bug 987220] Re: System does not power off reliably when "Shut Down" chosen from GUI

2013-01-06 Thread Stefanbowe
After sleeping a night over what I‘ve read so far, I had the following idea. We
might have a race condition here. In this case it would many strange things
seem plausible:
that it doesn’t happen on every shutdown
that acpi=force works on some machines
that removing the nvidia-driver works somtimes
 and so on.

Maybe someone with deeper knowledge than mine can suggest a smart spot
inside the shutdown scripts to put a ‘sleep 1‘ (or similar)?

[Bug 1096685] [NEW] poppler feeds invalid UTF-8 to cairo

2013-01-06 Thread Johannes H. Jensen
Public bug reported:

There's a known bug with poppler which breaks printing of PDFs with
certain UTF-8 symbols from evince (and probably others). The bug is
fixed upstream in poppler 0.22.0. Please consider updating libpoppler or
backporting the fix (see linked bug report for details).

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open attached 4-page PDF in evince
2. Choose File -> Print
3. Click Print Preview

The resulting preview is a blank page. The same happens if you attempt
to print the document. The following is output to stdout:

$ evince notes.pdf

[Bug 1002788] Re: Using the touchscreen breaks normal device left clicking

2013-01-06 Thread kathleenhenri
Ah yes, this bug has been driving me crazy! I have an Exopc running 12.10 and
the same problem for me.
If I have to disable the touchscreen in order to use the left click, it turns
the touchscreen tablet just another monitor.
Hope someone is able to work this out.
I can move open windows around, but cannot click (or tap for that matter) and
open or move ANYTHING on the desktop.

[Bug 1096655] [NEW] Crash when using Qt app

2013-01-06 Thread Ivan Akulov
Public bug reported:

gnome-settings-daemon crashes when using QtCreator and launching Qt-
based apps with it.

Well, I launch my Qt-based project couple of times and close it, but at the
certain closing gnome-settings-daemon crashes, the message 'QClipboard: Unable
to receive an event from the clipboard manager in a reasonable time' appears in
QtCreator console, the theme becomes very old, and system freezes a lot so I
can only reboot it by 'Reset' button.
My Qt app doesn't use QClipboard not at all. That problem started to appear 2-3
days ago.

Look, it's possibly duplicate of bug 626379.

[Bug 1096283] Re: Installing Nautilus in Xubuntu 12.10 pulls in Redundant Packages as Dependencies

2013-01-06 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Because Nautilus is compiled with support for Zeitgeist, libzeitgeist is
a required dependency. Zeitgeist is simply an activity log manager. If
it were transmitting user's activities over the Internet, people would
notice and there would be considerable complaining. It does act
transparently. Install gnome-activity-journal to see what information is
being collected. Or install activity-log-manager and turn "Record
Activity" off.

CD burning is a useful feature for a file manager and Brasero is a good
choice as it is the GNOME CD burner. Brasero is only a recommends so you
can easily uninstall it after installing Nautilus. That being said,
perhaps it should be a "suggests" instead of a "recommends"; the main
meta-packages already depend on brasero or xfburn any way.

Yes, there are several themes you could switch to that would make the

that specifies the "gtk-stock-remove" or whatever icon, and change it to
the appropriate icon for "zoom out" or "reduce", and actually fix the
issue.

[Bug 1096608] [NEW] /usr/bin/totem-video-thumbnailer is crashing when deleting a video-file which is showing a thumbnail

2013-01-06 Thread Michael Basse
Public bug reported:

on 12.04 (default with unity) i was deleting some video-files (divx).
The files were presented which a thumbnail. After deleting the files
(shift + del, dont know if there is a difference to normal del in this
case) totem was reporting, that it was crashing. Then i can click
"restart totem".

The files are gone after but the crash dialog is a bug which should not
be shown when deleting video files.
