[Bug 1100308] Re: gnome-control-center segment error during selection of image
This issue is reproducible and seems to be related to the user number. I had a user number in the /etc/passwd set to 300 and something. Now changing that to 1000 and with appropriate sudo chown -R myusername /home/myusername and sudo chgrp -R myusername /home/myusername I no longer get the error: the username is shown in lightdm, the username is shown in the upper right corner, I see my self in the User account is system settings, and pressing the icon does not generate a crash, but selects the icon alright. Before that I tried minimum-uid=300 in /etc/lightdm/users.conf but I did not get that to work. There seems to be multiple issues (including a crash) related to a too low user number. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1100308 Title: gnome-control-center segment error during selection of image To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1100308/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1080656] Re: bluetooth-wizard crashes when the name of a discovered device is NULL
I've experienced this issue today and possibly come up with a workaround. Ubuntu 12.10 x64. USB bluetooth dongle. Let me know if you need any further hardware info. Initially, when scanning for devices, some sort of ID of the device was displayed (a hex UID type string). Any time I clicked on this the applet crashed and I saw the crash report for bluetooth-wizard. I did this a few times, but then I tried again and waited patiently whilst it continued to search for devices. Eventually the hardware ID listed changed into the name of my BT headset. Now when I click to select, and click Continue, I get no error at this point (it doesn't connect to the device in the end, but I'd wager that's a different issue). [Bug 1100780] [NEW] Cannot mirror display output between primary and secondary display
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I'm using LATITUDE E5510 laptop, on ubuntu 12.04 LTS On gnome-control-center display, application properly shows maximal resolution, that works on my machine (1600x900). Resolutions detected on primary display includes only one resolution (1600x900). When I plug secondary monitor, with different resolutions set supported, I cannot enable display mirroring (this option is greyed out). In secondary monitor, I can use few different resolutions. I was able to work-around this problem, by simple adding resolution to eDP1 screen (primary display) with xrandr tool. xrandr --addmode eDP1 1280x1024 After that, I was able to change resolution at gnome-control-center display applet to 1280x1024 on my primary display, and I was able to use mirroring feature. (both devices switched to 1280x1024 resultion). It's not a critical problem for me (since my workaround works for me), but I think that fixing this issue can improve overall user experience. [Bug 1100874] [NEW] lockscreen presents no unlock dialog
Public bug reported: Standard Unity. Have a laptop on a docking station, with a second monitor connected. Lock the screen, go away for sufficient time for the displays to blank. when I return, hit a key, the external display powers up, but just shows me the background set for my account, no dialog to unlock the screen, the laptop display does not even power up. no way to unlock the screen. I move the mouse around, to where it should be on the laptop screen, but that screen stays dark. There is no disk activity and no cpu load during this event, it is not busy, it just does not present the dialog. I do not know if this is what fixes it, but I do it every time: Ctrl-F1, log into a terminal session, then switch back and forth Ctrl-F7 a few times and after a few minutes it will present a dialog, and can then unlock. ** Affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1100874 Title: lockscreen presents no unlock dialog To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-screensaver/+bug/1100874/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1064584] Re: Locked gnome session unlocks without password authentication
This is a key bit: Jan 17 07:54:33 workstation gnome-session[2959]: WARNING: Application 'gnome-shell.desktop' killed by signal 11 The lock screen is integrated into the compositor (gnome-shell) in 3.6. An unfortunate side effect of this is that if the compositor crashes, it will get auto-restarted, and we fail open. In prior versions of GNOME, gnome-screensaver was an indepenent process. Clearly it would make sense to attempt to preserve the screen is locked state, but that'd still allow a window in which the session was accessible. [Bug 1070449] [NEW] Login without password option effectively locks super user out!
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I installed Ubuntu 12.10 with the option to log my main user with a password. Then I added two other users and changed all three accounts to log in without a password. This nulled my main user's password and stopped the ability to sudo and make any system wide changes! Also the password can not be set back on, as there is no valid password to authorize any actions! In effect, you are completely left without a super user for your computer and cannot install updates or programs or do a whole lot of anything. There is a remedy to this and it is to go to the terminal and typing passwd, after which you can re-set your password. However this is not clear to many users, and that's why the Users panel simply should not be able to null your password even if you prefer to login without one.
