[Bug 1142947] Re: epiphany-browser crashed with SIGSEGV in Decoder()
** Description changed: Crash on browsing watching youtube video from http://ubuntuonair.com. Expected it to play the whole hangout video but played less than a minute. After restarting the browser it crashed again with another random video off youtube in less than 10 seconds. Also fails on lernid, which I'm testing, and midori--all webkit browsers. Running today's live i386 CD from raring. (Today == 2013-3-3). No flash installed and therefore I assume that it is using html 5. Running flash in lernid and midori avoids the problem as webkit seems to use it in preference to html5--but that's just my guess. To reproduce: Install raring + **Don't install flash** Install ephiphany with 'sudo apt-get install epiphany-browser' Start epiphany from the terminal with epiphany http://ubuntuonair.com/#video; Start the video and wait for the video to stop (coincident with the halt in the video within a minute). [Bug 1113648] Re: Add a context menu entry to create a new blank file
I don't understand it either, but it's not Ubuntu's fault. The problem is upstream: Canonical repackages the gnome desktop, and AFAICS the gnome-devs have gone insane and think that removing commonly-used and useful functionality will make gnome better. They therefore don't think this is a bug - they did it on purpose! - which is why they have closed the upstream bug as won't fix. This bug is just one example in nautilus - do you notice that you can no longer create a new folder using the right click if the nautilus window is filled with file names? That there's no longer a status bar? That the menu has most of its functionality removed - you can't even create a new folder any more via the menu? [Bug 903422] Re: Ubuntu does not work with Samsung Galaxy phones ( Unable to open raw device 0)
Dave, Unfortunately, these newer Motorola devices appear as... wait for it... a CDROM drive. The CD image contains the installer for some windows software that they want you to run, which will send a magic USB packet to the phone to switch it into MTP mode. That's really what's going on. I haven't found any useful information about this online, so it doesn't appear anyone's reverse engineered the magic packet. Re: [Bug 903422] Re: Ubuntu does not work with Samsung Galaxy phones ( Unable to open raw device 0)
Philip Langdale [2013-03-06 4:57 -]: Unfortunately, these newer Motorola devices appear as... wait for it... a CDROM drive. That's quite common indeed; there is usb-modeswitch to get devices from this useless fake CD-ROM to real UMS/MTP mode, so perhaps usb-modeswitch-data needs to be updated for your model? It might help to file a bug against usb-modeswitch-data, anyway. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/903422 Title: Ubuntu does not work with Samsung Galaxy phones ( Unable to open raw device 0) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gvfs/+bug/903422/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

OMG! I can't burn an ISO.. What a painful software.. I have to open it in terminal with force: 'sudo brasero'. Otherwise it won't even run... And it's saying please insert a supported CD or DVD.. Wtf? So CD-R isn't supported?! This is unacceptable. How can they leave Brasero as the burning utility on Ubuntu if it has this incredible bug???
