[Bug 296867] Re: empathy needs to support OTR encryption

2013-03-08 Thread Ronny Rabuzarus
OK, soon gsoc will start again. Maybe it can used to find someone who
will implement OTR in telepathy. Does anybody has good connection to
telepathy/gnome/fdo developers to ask if they would provide a mentor for
such a project?

What really annoys me about the otr integration in telepathy is the lack of
information you get. People (e.g. jprvita, McVittie) come and go. Someone never
hear something again about the project and the status. There are some questions
in my head. Something like, is the approach of jpvita usefull for furher
devlopment. If it's useful, what needs to be done to finish it?
I think it would be useful to have a wiki page with such kind of informations.
I can't believe that nobody is willing to code on this, so the question seems
to be what keeps developers away from coding on this or vice versa what
incentives must be given that someone is willing to work on otr implementation.

P.S. Don't get me wrong I don't want to blame anybody with this post. It
presents just a couple of questions which have risen in my head.

Will that release go into the current LTS, 12.04? LTS is Long Term

individuals to file specific requests to have a bug fixed in it.

I don't have a 12.04 machine to build/test the fix on, maybe someone
else can do that.

Or you can apply the patch yourself and submit a merge proposal against
lp:ubuntu/precise/gnome-keyring, so that it'll show up in the
sponsorship queue. See
http://developer.ubuntu.com/packaging/html/fixing-a-bug.html for
details.

You need to do a killall gnome-terminal or start new gnome terminal
with --disable-factory before testing. The new binary isn't actually
loaded, but just spawns a new window in the already running (old)
binary, due to gnome-terminal using factory.

[Bug 1094496] Re: gnome-keyring-daemon leaks memory

2013-03-08 Thread Brian J. Murrell
But I do have a 12.04 machine and I already submitted a patch (which
just came from upstream, not my patch) which fixes the problem on the
gnome-keyring shipped in 12.04 LTS. So really, I don't know why you are
proposing all of this rigmarole with backporting patches from g-k-r
3.6.1 and sponsorship, etc. Why not just ship the LTS 3.2.2 g-k-r
release with the attached patch?

It's all of this beauraucratic red-tape to getting such a simple but
important fix into what is supposed to be a supported release that makes
Ubuntu no longer a desired platform to use.

It's all of this beauraucratic red-tape to getting such a simple but
important fix into what is supposed to be a supported release that makes
Ubuntu no longer a desired platform to use.

oh come on, what all of this beauraucratic red-tape, bugs just need basic
infos on
- impact (what's the issue)
- test case (so the fix can be confirmed)
- regression potential (so testers know if they should watch for a potentiel
regression)

it's basic infos that takes a few minutes to write (if you don't need to
write a program as testcase)

then you need somebody to do the upload, anyone is welcome to help and
provide a debdiff to help on that rather than complaining that
volunteers don't work enough or not in a reasonable timeline fashion

The real problem here is that gnome-keyring-daemon has no business
growing to even a fraction of the 2GB limit imposed here. 2G for a
  simple keyring daemon is absurd.

Looking at the upstream changelog for versions beyond the 3.2.2 on which
the Ubuntu version is based appear to have fixed memory leaks. Given
that this leaking 3.2.2-2ubuntu4 version is in the Precise LTS release,
upgrading to a newer Ubuntu release is not a solution nor an option --
this LTS release is supposed to be supported beyond 2017. A fix needs
to be backported. Having gnome-keyring-daemon leaking for 5 more years

[Bug 1100320] Re: Annotation Font-Color is unreadable in Evince

2013-03-08 Thread Till W.
Hi everyone!

I am using the Ambiance GTK theme and was affected by this bug. I have Ubuntu
12.04.2 LTS installed on an AMD64 machine.
I just downloaded and installed the following packages (with dpkg -i):

evince_3.4.0-0ubuntu1.6_amd64.deb (md5sum: bb2e9efd4c8a20b29f2c054e43cda8d7)
evince-common_3.4.0-0ubuntu1.6_all.deb (md5sum:
3cea48dba3415a523b06449daec9c1dd)
libevince3-3_3.4.0-0ubuntu1.6_amd64.deb (md5sum:
beed3be2fbebadb22e966a9a7e10fe04)

The text in the annotation popup notes is now black on white background
and is therefore perfectly readable. The issue is fixed for me.

Thank you to everyone involved in fixing this!

[Bug 1152706] [NEW] Unable to restore trash if the containing directory is removed

2013-03-08 Thread Redsandro
Public bug reported:

When you delete something, it goes into trash.
.Trash-$UID/files/TrashedFile.ext
.Trash-$UID/info/TrashedFile.ext.trashinfo

The trashinfo contains the path relative to .Trash-$UID's parent
directory that is the location to which the trashed file or directory
should be restored.

Imagine accidentally trashing 1000 files, and at some point rmdir the
containing directory before you realize you need to restore the trash.

In Ubuntu 12.04, no problem, the .trashinfo path would be created when
restoring the trash if it didn't exist.
In Ubuntu 12.10, you get 1000 popups saying There was an error getting
information about the destination. Details: Error when getting information for
file '/mountpoint/path/to/file': No such file or directory.

For every popup, you can manually do a mkdir -p
'/mountpoint/path/to/file', hit RETRY and it will work.

Something has changed in the past 11 months that SERIOUSLY cripples the
handling of trash.

I am not sure this bug is in the right place, or that something else
handles the trash for Nautilus. Nemo, fork of Nautilus, has the same
problem. If not filed correctly, please think with me where to file this
in the right place, because it's pretty important.

[Bug 1152706] Re: Unable to restore trash if the containing directory is removed

2013-03-08 Thread Redsandro
Correction: I don't know if 12.04 had that problem. I just remembered I
had Lubuntu, and when I try pcmanfm now (just installed on 12.10), it
does NOT have this trash problem.

So work-around for restoring trash when parent-directories are also
removed: Use PcManFM for handling the trash.

2013-03-08 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]
