[Bug 897322] Re: PDF saved forms are not compatible with Adobe Reader

2013-04-06 Thread NoOp
With US Tax season in full swing I found that the Ubuntu 12.04 Acroread
Evince versions cannot display the checkbox tickmarks in the fillable
tax forms therefore making it impossible to use Ubuntu for filling out
the forms:

http://www.irs.gov/Forms--Pubs

Typical form:
http://www.irs.gov/file_source/pub/irs-pdf/f1040.pdf

I had no such issues with Acroread 9.5.4 and Evince 3.4.0 in Fedora
17... Two years is long enough, so I've given up waiting switched to
Fedora.

[Bug 1041665] Re: gnome-disk-utility is missing palimpsest (renamed to gnome-disks)

2013-04-06 Thread Stephen D Metcalfe
The new gnome-disk app sucks for building custom systems. One of the
most important features of gnome-disk-utility was that it showed to
which port a drive was attached. Many motherboards have both SATA II and
SATA III ports and attaching drives to the correct port is critical to
building fast systems. Apparently the Gnome 3 project is determined to
castrate user interfaces by removing critical features. If they wish to
simplify them they should at least provide a mode option where all the
original functionality is still available.

The new gnome-disk app gets nine smelly diapers from me.

[Bug 1053658] Re: Automatic Contacts feature went missing (via bbdb e-plugin)

2013-04-06 Thread Martin Vysny
After Google changed the paradigm of mail address auto-completion by
auto-completing mail addresses from all your mails, the concept of an
address book became obsolete. It is a pity that Evolution still clings
to this deprecated concept. The Automatic Contacts feature is at most a
half-step towards Google-style auto-completion, however it's better than
nothing. It is strange that this basic functionality is not embedded in
the core of Evolution, but it is rather a plugin. When this plugin went
missing, Evolution mail address auto-completion became useless.

[Bug 1165377] [NEW] Shortcut preferences are discarded after logout

2013-04-06 Thread Petr Gladkikh
Public bug reported:

Changed shortcut preferences are discarded and reset to defaults after re-login
or reboot.
Reproduction:
1. Open preferences: System settings... - Keyboard - Shortcuts
2. Change setting for Windows/Toggle shaded state to something else (e.g.
disable it by pressing backspace)
3. Optionally close preferences window (reproduced without this step also)
4. (New shortcut preference is persisted only until end of current session)
5. Log-out/Login or reboot/Login
6. Preference for shortcut that was changed in previous session is reset to
default one.

Expected behavior:
Changed shortcut preference is persisted for all subsequent sessions until
changed again explicitly by user.

[Bug 1165437] [NEW] Mysterious, unlabeled icons on disk volumes

2013-04-06 Thread Andrew
Public bug reported:

Just one of the fourteen disk volumes on my machine is displayed with a
star and a triangle in the lower-right corner (screenshot attached).
These icons are unlabeled, do not have hover text, are not self-
explanatory, and do not appear to respond to left or right mouse clicks.
Furthermore, there is no sign of a Help menu within the Disks window or
application menu. I have no idea what these icons mean.

2013-04-06 Thread Bryan Gonzalez
Hey, thanks for the tip, but we still need a proper solution. Why is dbus
brought down when networking stop is called?
On Apr 5, 2013 3:41 PM, Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre mathieu...@gmail.com
wrote:

If you're looking to restart network-manager, you'll want to do 'sudo
restart network-manager', not 'sudo restart networking'.

If you're making changes to /etc/network/interfaces, running ifup -a

 interface, then ifup interface.

[Bug 1070652] Re: [regression] [Quantal] can't browse to gvfs share

2013-04-06 Thread Fastguy
I confirm this bug. And it is not a duplicate of #1069255.

To reproduce:
1) Share the drive from Windows where your pagefile resides (ie c:)
2) Browse it and mount it with Thunar.
3) Try to list the contents of directory with Thunar, you will receive an error
that pagefile.sys resource busy. You won't be able to see folder contents.
normal ls on the /run/user/username/gvfs/mounted_location/ works.

[Bug 888789] Re: evince doesn't render embedded font

2013-04-06 Thread Kevin Cole
With my document (a tax document I'd rather not share), evince fails to
render the text, showing various odd lines, shadings, etc. in place of
the text. I *think* xpdf renders it correctly for about 3 seconds, and
then crashes. For the few seconds I see it, it appears correct. Adobe
Acrobat Reader (acroread) has no problem with it on a 32-bit system, but
I really don't want to clutter my 64-bit system with all of the 32-bit
libraries for a single application.

[Bug 839157] Re: Bluetooth applet (OBEX send/browse) does not work since Natty (after bluetoothd 4.84 exactly)

2013-04-06 Thread p4trykx
I also have problems with browsing files on the phone. I think that it last
worked flawlessly for me on 11.04 and after some updates on 12.04 (I use Mint
Maya 13 which is based on Ubuntu 12.04) I have Dell Latitude 6500 and a small
usb dongle on another laptop. Both have problems but everything(mouse, serial
port ...) except obex works just fine.
I doubt if this bug will be fixed since it's active for so many years, I
personally lost hope and hold on to Mint Maya.

[Bug 1103757] Re: Crashes while loading large library; 12.10 upgrade; ntfs drive

2013-04-06 Thread Si Dedman
Hi again. Changed to xubuntu 12.10, still on rhythmbox 2.97, reloaded
library and it's working fine, manually added my 2 podcast
subscriptions, moved my old playlists file over it works fine, so
everything's back up working BUT: ratings playcounts are still
trapped on my old rhythmdb.xls.

Any thoughts on how I can sort this out? I don't understand why the old file
isn't working - the files are in the same place. Notes on database format
differences below, essentially:
file size 1st last seen are different, and
play count, last played, rating, hidden comment are absent in the new dbase.

If anyone can think of a way to merge my old ratings play counts into
the new dbase, that would be much appreciated. I don't have much
experience playing with xml...

Thanks

[Bug 1165590] [NEW] Unable to adjust backlight brightness after upgrade to raring - Asus UX32VD

2013-04-06 Thread Yohann Lepage
Public bug reported:

Hi,

After upgrading to raring, gsd-backlight-helper seems to make a wrong
decision on which backlight to modify/the correct node is missing. The
hotkeys for changing the screen brightness don't work on Asus UX32VD.
The brightness is stuck between two values with the hotkeys (about
95% and 90%)

gsd-backlight-helper sets
/sys/devices/virtual/backlight/apple_backlight/brightness which doesn't
change anything :

# strace -e write,open /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-backlight-helper
--set-brightness 10 21|tail -n 2
open(/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:01.0/:01:00.0/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness,
 O_WRONLY) = 3
write(3, 10, 2) = 2

manually setting the brightness like this doesn't work :

# echo 5
/sys/devices/pci\:00/\:00\:01.0/\:01\:00.0/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness

setting the brightness using intel_backlight works well :

# strace -e write,open /usr/bin/intel_backlight 100 21|tail -n 4
open(/sys/bus/pci/devices/:00:02.0/resource0, O_RDWR|O_CLOEXEC) = 4
write(1, current backlight value: 100%\nse..., 52current backlight value: 100%
set backlight to 100%
) = 52

manually setting the brightness like this works :

# echo 50
/sys/bus/pci/devices/\:00\:02.0/backlight/acpi_video1/brightness
