[Bug 984785] Re: .goutputstream files polluting $HOME
Since installing 12.10 have noticed that a warning box indicates a process is not shutting down as quickly as it should be ref signon-ui at shutdown time. This could be related to the use of Ubuntu One sign in with relation to the Backup app. If Backup is closed from desktop session an Ubuntu One sign in box appears. After noticing the hidden goutputstream files and doing a websearch then looking here it appears there is no definite cause to this happening. Reading comment #33 did motivate me to note my own observations but do not have programming experience to help identify what is the actual cause of the goutputstream files in home folder. [Bug 1172904] [NEW] Nautilus won't start/extremely slow
Public bug reported: Hello, Nautilus (files) won't even start on my Ubuntu 13.04. It eventually will start up after some ~10 minutes and will just freeze. I have this problem for some time now where Nautilus was just slow to start or would freeze up. But now it wouldn't even start at all. Please note that I had/have similar (if not same problem) on Debian Sid with 3.8.x kernel. Where Nautilus would just be slow to start, and would eventually freeze up with CPU working at 100% to process Nautilus. How I resolved this problem on Sid is by simply moving back to 3.2.x kernel and everything was "fine", even though Nautilus was pretty slow most of the time. I tried doing same thing on 13.04 where I would move from 3.8.x kernel to 3.5.x but without any success. I do have Dropbox (nautilus-dropbox), but nothing would improve even after purging it or using their own package (Dropbox website). There were no changes even after purging Nautilus and then installing it. There would be no changes even after I would do a clean install, basically the more files I put in my home directory the slower my Nautilus would get. I believe this is an upstream bug and I have a feeling it might be related to linux kernel and its encryption (lvm). FYI, my drive is fully encrypted. It also might be worth noting that a *lot* of users suffer from same problem where Nautilus was just extremely slow (http://goo.gl/gvpMY). I believe this is an extremely important bug which should be taken care of, if you need any additional input or logs from me please let me know. Ah, I'm glad to see there is a way (the cog) to add bookmarks. [Bug 1172796] [NEW] application chooser is misleaded by filename that corresponds to application name

Steps to reproduce: --- 1.Install clustalw 2.Install clustalx 3.call a termainal and give the follwowing line man clustalw > clustalw (you see it redirects the aoutput to a simple textfile named clustalw -> the textfile mentioned above) 4.Call nautilus and switch to the directory where the textfile from the redirect in step3 is saved(properly your actual working directory. 5. Try to open clustalw with simple double clicking 6. See nothing 7.Use right mouse click on the clustalx textfile and see in the menu that nautilus try to use Clustl X to open the textfile -> this could not work. [Bug 1067876] Re: Missing "Safely Remove Drive" option from Quicklists. Only have "Eject".
Thank you reply, Sebastien. I don't want to troll volunteers. I'm sorry. I understand that problem is caused by fundamental changes in upstream (udisks, gvfs, nautilus, etc.) and that Ubuntu developers took buggy packages from upstream. I prefer LTS versions, I use 12.04.2 on 1 my PC and 2 laptops. As original bug reporter stated, today is 04/2013 and bug was reported at 10/2012 - so where is a progress? Bug exists in Fedora, OpenSuse, etc (see above). It seems that nobody cared here and in upstream. upstream closed the bug with this comment: "I cannot reproduce this on nautilus 3.6. It works as expected: custom icons set on the target folder subfolders are shown when I open the symlink. It's worth noting that nautilus now opens the target path when a symlink is double-clicked. But even if I manually enter the symlink path into the location entry, the custom icons are shown as expected." since we have 3.6 in raring, closing the bug ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Assignee: Ubuntu Desktop Bugs (desktop-bugs) => (unassigned) ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/86976 Title: shortcut folders don't show custom icons To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/86976/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 919385] Re: Feature request: zoom out
Yes, the whole point of zoom-out is for the image to get smaller and no longer fill the whole canvas. Under some circumstances, that is a good thing. What is the use case? Sometimes you want to look at the photo without being distracted by various user interface widgets right next to it. Zooming out helps you to do this. Strange as it sounds, even though the photo is a little smaller, if it's got a little "breathing room" with no visual distractions near it, you can sometimes see it better. Fullscreen mode can do this sometimes, but it's not always the best approach. Shotwell may not be a full-fledged image viewer, but part of a photo manager is deciding which photos to keep, and which to delete. The way you do that is to view the photos. If the viewer is really bad (hypothetical example: a horrible scaling algorithm, and displayed colors that are way off), then the user is making decisions with poor information, and will make poor decisions on what to keep or delete. If the viewer is average, then the user has better information, and will make better decisions. If the viewer is great, then the user has even better information, and their decisions will be that much better. Yes, we are talking about an effect that is fairly small. A detail. But details add up, and lots of good details can really make a difference. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to shotwell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/919385 Title: Feature request: zoom out To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shotwell/+bug/919385/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
