2013-04-25 Thread Walter Garcia-Fontes
Hopefully, if I'm understand correctly, a fix has been committed
upstream so that the parser does not trigger this gvfs bug, and I hope
the gvfs bug will also be taken care afterwards. Let's see if this fixes
this rhythmbox problem when this fix arrives to our updates.

[Bug 1153934] Re: Some radio streams which used to play OK don't play after updating to rhythmbox 2.98

2013-04-25 Thread Lukas
Worse yet: The streams that do not play seem to continue being
downloaded in the background!

lsof -i showed a large number of gvfsd-http processes, each receiving
one HTTP icecast radio stream, many of them duplicated (since I tried
opening the streams multiple times).

I had to kill all of them manually; closing rhythmbox alone was not
enough.

[Bug 984785] Re: .goutputstream files polluting $HOME

2013-04-25 Thread Shaun Turnbull
Since installing 12.10 have noticed that a warning box indicates a process is
not shutting down as quickly as it should be ref signon-ui at shutdown time.
This could be related to the use of Ubuntu One sign in with relation to the
Backup app. If Backup is closed from desktop session an Ubuntu One sign in box
appears.
After noticing the hidden goutputstream files and doing a websearch then
looking here it appears there is no definite cause to this happening. Reading
comment #33 did motivate me to note my own observations but do not have
programming experience to help identify what is the actual cause of the
goutputstream files in home folder. Ref
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/984785/comments/33 Have
noticed these hidden files but did not see them as problem until reading some
of the comments here referring to this possibly being a security issue.

[Bug 1172904] [NEW] Nautilus won't start/extremely slow

2013-04-25 Thread Adnan Hodzic
Public bug reported:

Hello,

Nautilus (files) won't even start on my Ubuntu 13.04. It eventually will
start up after some ~10 minutes and will just freeze.

I have this problem for some time now where Nautilus was just slow to
start or would freeze up. But now it wouldn't even start at all.

Please note that I had/have similar (if not same problem) on Debian Sid
with 3.8.x kernel. Where Nautilus would just be slow to start, and would
eventually freeze up with CPU working at 100% to process Nautilus.

How I resolved this problem on Sid is by simply moving back to 3.2.x
kernel and everything was "fine", even though Nautilus was pretty slow
most of the time.

I tried doing same thing on 13.04 where I would move from 3.8.x kernel
to 3.5.x but without any success.

I do have Dropbox (nautilus-dropbox), but nothing would improve even
after purging it or using their own package (Dropbox website). There
were no changes even after purging Nautilus and then installing it.
There would be no changes even after I would do a clean install,
basically the more files I put in my home directory the slower my
Nautilus would get.

I believe this is an upstream bug and I have a feeling it might be
related to linux kernel and its encryption (lvm). FYI, my drive is fully
encrypted.

It also might be worth noting that a *lot* of users suffer from same
problem where Nautilus was just extremely slow (http://goo.gl/gvpMY).

I believe this is an extremely important bug which should be taken care
of, if you need any additional input or logs from me please let me know.

Regards,

Adnan

[Bug 1131099] Re: Can not edit or add new bookmarks/places to nautilus

2013-04-25 Thread joehill
Ah, I'm glad to see there is a way (the cog) to add bookmarks. If this
is how it is by design, it still seems like a HUGE usability issue that
you have to Google around to figure out how to add a bookmark, whereas
in the past there were a number of more intuitive ways to do it (drag &
drop, right click, menu option). The cog is definitely not an intuitive
place for me to look.

[Bug 1067876] Re: Missing "Safely Remove Drive" option from Quicklists. Only have "Eject".

2013-04-25 Thread Sebastien Bacher

well, that's a wrong assumption, I wouldn't be subscribed to this bug
and wouldn't comment on it if I wasn't caring. See the number of the bug
"1068786", it's over a million bugs registered on launchpad... not sure
how many people care and work on those but it's probably in the
magnitude of some hundreds, who do work on them on their free time or
sometime on work time from companies, like Canonical, who give time and
resources to improve Ubuntu.

Summary: there are ton to do, a limited number of people doing hard
work. Trolling them for not doing enough, for you (and others), on their
free time can be depressing.

[Bug 1172796] [NEW] application chooser is misleaded by filename that corresponds to application name

2013-04-25 Thread Sasa Paporovic
Public bug reported:

nautilus/application chooser has trouble if the software clustalw and
clustal X is installed and a simple textfile is named "clustalw"

On trying to open the "clustalx" textfile nautilus is trying to to this
with the application Clustal X.

To explain this: clustalw is the background program for Clustal X

, so there is some logic in it that a "clustalw" file provoce a call of
Clustal X (the last is the graphical frontend).

Anyway, this misbehaviour is just wrong.

Steps to reproduce:
---

1.Install clustalw
2.Install clustalx
3.call a termainal and give the follwowing line

man clustalw > clustalw

(you see it redirects the aoutput to a simple textfile named clustalw ->
the textfile mentioned above)

4.Call nautilus and switch to the directory where the textfile from the
redirect in step3 is saved(properly your actual working directory.
5. Try to open clustalw with simple double clicking
6. See nothing
7.Use right mouse click on the clustalx textfile and see in the menu that
nautilus try to use Clustl X to open the textfile -> this could not work.

Additional:
-
Nautilus must choose also in this case the system editor for open the clustalw
file produced in step3: By default gedit

[Bug 1067876] Re: Missing "Safely Remove Drive" option from Quicklists. Only have "Eject".

2013-04-25 Thread Norbert
Thank you reply, Sebastien. I don't want to troll volunteers. I'm sorry.

I understand that problem is caused by fundamental changes in upstream
(udisks, gvfs, nautilus, etc.) and that Ubuntu developers took buggy
packages from upstream. I prefer LTS versions, I use 12.04.2 on 1 my PC
and 2 laptops.

As original bug reporter stated, today is 04/2013 and bug was reported at
10/2012 - so where is a progress?
Bug exists in Fedora, OpenSuse, etc (see above).
It seems that nobody cared here and in upstream. This is a reason of my sarcasm.

[Bug 304889]

2013-04-25 Thread Simon McVittie
(In reply to comment #2)

This should now work (since 0.1.11), but that wasn't what was requested:

(In reply to comment #0)
> There's several bouncers that
> support socks or by addition of a custom command "CONNECT" in the IRC

Support for these would require use of a non-system-wide proxy.

[Bug 1167417] Re: Computer sometimes wakes up immediately after suspend

2013-04-25 Thread Gorka Navarrete
I am attaching inline the log section for a failed suspend try.

In brief, when I try to suspend, the computer goes down and then
immediately up.

A device (eth2?) seems to be failing to suspend.

Not sure if this is related to some problems this model (Lenovo Y500)
has with the wired connection not working.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use Ubuntu 12.04 with Gnome Classic and I'm also affected by this bug.
I see this bug is quite old... Can't anyone fix this??
Also, it seems to ignore locale settings... But that is another bug...

2013-04-25 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1153934] [NEW] Some radio streams which used to play OK don't play after updating to rhythmbox 2.98

2013-04-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The following stream, which I have saved in "Radio":

http://radioclasica.rtve.stream.flumotion.com/rtve/radioclasica.mp3.m3u

used to play perfectly (heard it daily) with the previous version of
rhythmbox, but after upgrading to Ubuntu 13.04 which brought a new
version does not play any more. Some other streams still play perfectly,
for instance:

http://www.catmusica.cat/directes/catmusica_wm.m3u

After clicking the radio nothing happens, it doesn't play the stream or
produces any other message whatsoever

upstream closed the bug with this comment:

"I cannot reproduce this on nautilus 3.6. It works as expected: custom icons set
on the target folder subfolders are shown when I open the symlink.

It's worth noting that nautilus now opens the target path when a symlink is
double-clicked. But even if I manually enter the symlink path into the location
entry, the custom icons are shown as expected."

since we have 3.6 in raring, closing the bug

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a

[Bug 919385] Re: Feature request: zoom out

2013-04-25 Thread rob
Yes, the whole point of zoom-out is for the image to get smaller and no
longer fill the whole canvas. Under some circumstances, that is a good
thing.

What is the use case? Sometimes you want to look at the photo without
being distracted by various user interface widgets right next to it.
Zooming out helps you to do this. Strange as it sounds, even though the
photo is a little smaller, if it's got a little "breathing room" with no
visual distractions near it, you can sometimes see it better. Fullscreen
mode can do this sometimes, but it's not always the best approach.

Shotwell may not be a full-fledged image viewer, but part of a photo
manager is deciding which photos to keep, and which to delete. The way
you do that is to view the photos. If the viewer is really bad
(hypothetical example: a horrible scaling algorithm, and displayed
colors that are way off), then the user is making decisions with poor
information, and will make poor decisions on what to keep or delete. If
the viewer is average, then the user has better information, and will
make better decisions. If the viewer is great, then the user has even
better information, and their decisions will be that much better.

Yes, we are talking about an effect that is fairly small. A detail. But
details add up, and lots of good details can really make a difference.
