[Bug 1174649] [NEW] File Roller cannot re-author APK archives

2013-04-30 Thread Cefn
Public bug reported:

I have an APK (an archive which contains an Android application) which I
created using the standard Android Developer Tools. It opens fine and I
can extract the contents, but I have real problems, and unusual errors,
when trying to add or modify contents.

Every attempt I make to add either a folder or a file to the archive causes the
popup error...
An error occurred while adding files to the archive.
...whilst file-roller reports to Standard Error...
** (file-roller:1801): WARNING **: Error making symbolic link: File exists

This also happens if I delete the target file or folder from the archive
before trying to upload a new one.

I've been attempting to simply replace some of the files in the archive
with more up-to-date ones, without having to rebuild the app from
scratch with the dev tools (I don't have access to the source and tools
right now). I only need to change one line in a html file, and replace
four icons.

The tool should be capable of managing this archive, and indeed I found a
workaround, which is to use the .cache/ mounting of the archive to rsync a load
of changes into the folder structure. In my case it was...
sudo rsync --recursive ./res/drawable-* /home/cefn/.cache/.fr-LedBmX/res/
...a path which I figured out by opening a file with a text editor or image
viewer, which then reveals the auto-generated path to this archive's
temporarily mounted directories via the Save As dialog. Then file-roller
helpfully asks if I want to synchronize the changes on disk with the archive. I
say yes, and the archive is updated. However, this workaround is not really
usable for most people.

N.B. at the time I was running file-roller with sudo as I wondered
whether there was a permissions problem, but the same happens without
sudo.

[Bug 1174655] [NEW] reimplement support for external modules.

2013-04-30 Thread Tim
Public bug reported:

In gnome-3.8 support for external panels has been removed.

I have written a patch to re-implement these, however it has the
following limitations.

- modules (i.e. panels with .so files) need to have the desktop file
name gnome-'module'-panel.desktop. Although I currently have a fallback
in place for 'module'-ccpanel.desktop, since a few extensions seem to
use that also.

- launchers (i.e things like language), are loaded from a static list of file
names, which is within the patch. I really didn’t want to haul the gmenu code
back in. So this seems like a good comprise. A number of tweaks will need to be
made to various desktop files however:
+ language-selector: needs an independent desktop file for panel laucher, so
we can hide it in Ubuntu GNOME g-c-c, but not apps search
+ ubuntu privacy panel: needs to be set to OnlyShowIn=Unity.
+ ubuntu appearance panel: needs desktop file renamed to suit above format
+ deja-dup and privacy: should be renamed to gnome-*-panel format.
+ there maybe a few others, I havent really done a thorough check here.

- there was a macro, CC_PANEL_REGISTER which is now renamed
CC_PANEL_REGISTER_EXTERNAL, I am not sure if any extensions use this,
but if they do that will need to be changed.

package with patches is at ppa:darkxst/logind for now

[Bug 6090] Re: allow RAW pictures thumbnailing

2013-04-30 Thread Grzegorz G.
Gnome-raw-thumbnailer now works properly, so I'm marking as fix released
to clean up a bit.

If you want gnome-raw-thumbnailer to be included in default install, you
have to report this against some other package. Or perhaps bring it to
attention on nearest UDS.

If there are some filetypes not working with gnome-raw-thumbnailer, file
separate bugs.

[Bug 1026254] Re: Open with on folders was removed, Ubuntu should consider patching back

2013-04-30 Thread Doug McMahon
LP isn't the place for support as far as Raring this bug is a dead issue.
Jean-Christophe Sekinger - you're at the wrong prompt using wrong patch
command for location of patch.
In any event I don't recommend doing a default configure make install of
nautilus to /usr/local, you'll lose extensions unless you move or link them.

For help taking care of I suggest Ubuntu forums, this thread deals with in a
fashion.
Exact instr. for a package build install using a debdiff are in this post But
you now must use the *debdiff* patch command in post 26
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2132523p=12594506viewfull=1#post12594506
If inclined please read thru ask first in that thread if unclear on
*anything*

As a workaround we can use powertop. Using this tool as root (sudo
powertop), go the Tunables tab using left/right keys and toggle the
correct entry, in my case it was Runtime PM for PCI Device Intel
Corporation 82577LM Gigabit Network Connection.

Once this entry as been switched to Bad, I can plug the cable and the
interface status is set to up.

This workaround has to be set each time the power cable is unplugged.

[Bug 1174717] [NEW] Connect To Server removed ability to enter alternate credentials

2013-04-30 Thread Scott Pause
Public bug reported:

I have just completed and upgrade to 13.04, from 12.10 and the ability
to use Connect to server within Nautilus (Files?) no longer provides
the ability or prompt to enter alternate credentials. There is no place
in the GUI to perform this task. It results in a login failure to the
remote SMB host since it is using the incorrect username/password
combination.

The SMB server has not been modified, the connectivity worked literally
minutes before the upgrade of Ubuntu started.

2013-04-30 Thread Fabio Marconi
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in nautilus.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

Sorry for the delay.

I have had a look: there is a folder /var/log/gdm/ but when I try to

If I try to edit the /etc/gdm/custom.conf it shows up as empty.

Can I simply re-install gdm by sudo apt-get install gdm?

[Bug 1174830] [NEW] Display starts up with wrong screen orientation on thinkpad X230 tablet

2013-04-30 Thread Rüdiger Kupper
Public bug reported:

I'm quite lost as to with package I should report this issue. I report
it against gnome-control-center because this is where screen settings
are made. Please help and direct this report to the right place. Thank
you.

On a Lenovo thinkpad X230 tablet, one of the bezel buttons is bound to
rotating the screen in steps of 90°. This is an improvement in raring
compared to quantal, because in quantal, this button did not work at
all.

However, when I rotate the screen using this bezel button, shut down and
reboot, the display starts up rotated 90° to the right, compared with
what it was on shutdown. This is not a serious problem, but very
inconvenient. It startles you quite a bit booting your computer and
seeing the login screen rotated to the right. (Even the more as the
touch display orientation is not changed in the same way, but that's
another bug.)

This problem does not appear, when the screen orientation is changed via
the Display dialog from the control center. Just when using the bezel
button.

Bodum, I don't want to clutter my system with Gnome. Some time ago I
left Ubuntu because of all these Gnome 3 things are very hungry on
resources. I wanted a leightweigt but comfortable OS and found it in

seen, wasting resources endless. I'm now very happy with Debian

[Bug 1173150] [NEW] Can't turn off 'Airplane Mode' after toggling hardware wifi switch

2013-04-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Airplane Mode is stuck on 'On' after I turn off + turn on wifi via the
hardware switch on my laptop (Asus N53SV-S1827V), resulting in having no
wifi. If I go to 'Network' and turn off Airplane Mode the switch does
flip visually (though wifi doesn't start connecting), but when I reopen
the Network window the switch depicts Airplane mode to be on again.

I tried 'sudo rfkill unblock all' but this doesn't solve it. I have to
restart my laptop after which Airplane Mode is still on, but now I can
effectively toggle the switch in the Network window. This results in a
crash of the Network window, but wifi starts to connect again and when
reopening the Network window it shows that Airplane Mode is off.

The above behavior doesn't happen when I turn off wifi via the software
switch, so it must be related to toggling the hardware switch.

happens, this also happens with one instance of Nautilus open, or if I
open a new window and have a few instances of Nautilus running.

This is really irritating because this constantly happens, just about 1
in 5 times, meaning for around every 5th time I go to click on the Home
Folder icon to bring the window back up I'll have this problem and I
work on the computer all day long, so this is a lot of crashes going on,
especially when I'm trying to get work done and then I have to find my
way back through Nautilus to the directories I was working in, not very
  pleasant.

I truly hope this can be fixed soon, whateve is causing the problem.

[Bug 1174837] [NEW] Nautilus Window Stuck In Upper Left Corner

2013-04-30 Thread DasFox
Public bug reported:

I'm running 12.04 LTS on a Dell Inspiron N5010 resolution 1366x768 and
I've been having problems with Nautilus 3.4.2 getting stuck in the upper
left corner of Unity when I want to re open it.

So as example, I open Nautilus, then move to another workspace and run
another application, then I click on Home Folder icon to have Nautlius
open and take me to the workspace it's on, I'll end up getting it to
open up not even a 1/4 a view of it stuck in the upper left corner of
the screen.

Or if I open it on the same workspace and then minimize it, this also
happens, this also happens with one instance of Nautilus open, or if I
open a new window and have a few instances of Nautilus running.

Reassigning to gnome-control-center; this isn't an issue in
NetworkManager itself (seeing as we don't have any such Airplane mode
per se, which is something only in the control panel Network pane).

Note how the orange frame in the desktop switcher does not match the displayed
screens. This happens after the display started up with wrong screen
orientation.
This is obviously a mismatch between what is shown on the screen and what the
system believes it should be, in terms of orientation.

[Bug 1111397] Re: Executable files do not launch in 13.04

2013-04-30 Thread Luis Silva
Hi,

For me this is a bug, the fix should be applied to the original package,
so 13.04 and future ubuntu installations will not suffer from this.

There is no sense with behavior 'View executable text files' selected by
default for a regular user.
Shellscripts are commonly used to launch other executables, so a regular user
will expect that double clicking on a given application executable (being
script or ELF) will launch an application instead of gedit showing 'strange
programming mambojambo'.

I will give you an example: here in Portugal, we pay our taxes using an
official application that is downloaded from a goverment site.
The application is developed in java and it worked flawlessly with ubuntu. The
application is packaged inside a special script file that will auto-extract the
application content to a selected installation dir (by the way the application
launcher is also a shellscript). So a regular user when double clicking this
script, a gigant script will be opened in gedit! This really doesn't make any
sense from a regular user prespective.

[Bug 1159411] Re: gnome-control-center crashed with SIGSEGV in empathy_account_widget_apply_and_log_in()

2013-04-30 Thread Greg Michalec
I tested this on a live cd, and was able to create a new yahoo account
in Online Accounts. It would seem then that the problem is related to
having upgraded my system versus doing a fresh install. However, since
the problem occurs even under the guest accounts, the issue must not be
anything in my user-level configuration - it is system-wide. I'm pretty
confused though, as I have done a apt-get remove --purge and reinstall
of every package I thought relevant. I'm out of ideas as to how to track
this down. I'm also not sure if this is even the same bug, as I'm not
experiencing a crash anymore.

[Bug 1168690] Re: update manager wont run I get the message below

2013-04-30 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1174936] Re: online-accounts-preferences crashes immediately when opened

2013-04-30 Thread Akila Wajirasena
This bug affects me too. At first it worked fine and I add my google
account and set what to sync. I think I closed and opened the app
several times too, but it didn't crash.

1. Then when I right click an empathy contact and select Information Contacts
app started with asking to create an address book local or online.
2. There was only one option to create a local address book. So selected that.
3.After doing that even before adding a contact to the address book I opened
online accounts but it crashed right after opening.

[Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2013-04-30 Thread Bodum
The gvfs version on my system is 1.14.0-0.

OK, so I tried installing and using just Thunar 1.4.0 on top of my Mate
desktop to see if it would work : not.

So I went further and installed XFCE4 4.10 besides my Mate, logged out
and in XFCE. Tried a few copies, deletes, renames, creation of folders,
copies of few larges files, copies of a lot of small files... Verdict :
inside XFCE4, everything seems to be working just fine. So unless XFCE
does not use gvfs, the problem really seems to be a bad interaction
between Mate (Gnome) and gvfs 1.14.0-0...

Can anyone try with KDE ? I really don't have the disk space to install
this desktop environment on my aging computer.

[Bug 1132215] Re: rhythmbox crashes when syncing library to ipod

Worked fine in Ubuntu 12.10 with Rhythmbox 2.97. Upgraded to 13.04 /

downgrade Rhythmbox to 2.97 on Ubuntu 13.04? That might be a workaround.

[Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2013-04-30 Thread rod singleton
Bodum, I can confirm the problem doesn't exist in kubuntu 13.04 using
dolphin as the file manager.

I am now running this and dolphin doesn't seem to suffer the same fate
but I suspect it doesn't use gvfs for it's smb shares as the mounts
aren't stored in /run/user/{me}/gvfs. In fact I don't know where they
are for kubuntu.

[Bug 1170832] Re: Facebook Requires Authorization when already authorized

2013-04-30 Thread capnasty
I've been having this problem on both computers, one running 12.10 and
one running 13.04. Google Talk and MSN Messenger have often requested me
to re-validate, too, but that's it, it works. With Facebook you have to
go through hoops and prayers to see if today is the lucky day it will
work. It seems like Empathy is regressing with each new version.
