[Bug 33883] Re: hidden files not included in directory 'properties'

2013-05-02 Thread Marinus
Bump! It's 2013!
Same on 13.04.

I don't know it this is related but if you set show 'hidden files' and
then select the all the dot files in home followed by show properties
Nautilus gets stuck in a loop counting files. It counts ~7300 files then
restarts at 0, after about 30 minutes it stops at ~14000 files but the
'working' (the spinning circle thing is still spinning) is still going.
This only happens if I select all dot files and folders.

[Bug 53962] Re: Nautilus-cd-burner and Brasero are unable to blank DVD-RW

2013-05-02 Thread Thomas Schmitt
Hi,

i am the developer of libburn, which might be employed as burn backend
by Brasero. In this case i offer my help with finding the reasons of failure.

Needed would be a tester with an affected Brasero program, the necessary
type of media, and the willingness to run experiments with command line
applications of libburn (cdrskin or xorriso).

Have a nice day :)

[Bug 53962] Re: Nautilus-cd-burner and Brasero are unable to blank DVD-RW

2013-05-02 Thread Thomas Schmitt
Hi,

i noticed that the properties of DVD-RW are misrepresented
in some of the posts.

DVD-RW can assume two states: sequential and overwritable.

The sequential state behaves much like CD-R or DVD-R. The medium
has an own table-of-content where it records the track boundaries
of one or more burn sessions.
DVD-RW in sequential state have to be blanked before they can
be re-used from scratch. There are two blanking strategies:
fast and full.
Fast blanking of DVD-RW causes the medium to be unable of the
incremental write type. Only a single track and session can
be written in DAO mode.
Full blanking lasts as long as writing full DVD of data. It has
the benefit, though, to bring the medium into the same state as
a virgin DVD-R, which can accept more than one burn session and
does not necessarily need to know the size of the session in advance.

In the overwritable state, a DVD-RW resembles DVD+RW or DVD-RAM.
It has no own table-of-content, and only one track which can be
read and written in random access mode with 32 KiB granularity.
Overwritable DVD-RW do not need blanking for being re-used from
scratch. One may write 64 KiB of zeros to their start in order to
invalidate an existing ISO 9660 filesystem, which would cause
programs like growisofs or xorriso to append the new data rather
than to start writing a completely new ISO 9660 filesystem.

DVD-RW are sold in blank sequential state.

One may bring a sequential DVD-RW into overwritable state by e.g:
  dvd+rw-format -force /dev/...

One may bring an overwritable DVD-RW or a non-blank sequential DVD-RW
into blank sequential state by e.g.:
  dvd+rw-format -blank=full /dev/...

Only capable of DAO writing is the result of
  dvd+rw-format -blank=fast /dev/...

It depends on the state of the medium and on deliberate decisions
of the burn frontend program or its user, whether a DVD-RW gets
blanked or formatted.

With DVD+RW (which have sneaked into this bug report too) there
is no decision to be done by the frontend. The backend must know
about the peculiarities of DVD+RW background formatting and issue
the necessary FORMAT commands if needed.
This is the reason why burn programs on DVD+RW sometimes report
formatting for a few seconds before they start to write.

Have a nice day :)

Thomas

incredibly frustrating to the point of having installed several
alternatives, and even considering dropping Unity/Gnome in favor of KDE
(or something sane).

[Bug 1094496] Re: gnome-keyring-daemon leaks memory

2013-05-02 Thread Hein Zelle
I've finally been able to test the new version on both my home machine
and the work machine that originally showed the problem. Results seem
positive: memory usage appears normal and doesn't grow after a full day
of running.

directly after starting:

 zelle24481 0.1 0.0 216800 4304 ?SLl 15:54 0:00
/usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon --daemonize --login

30 minutes and some use later:

 zelle24481 0.0 0.0 364264 4432 ?SLl 15:54 0:00
/usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon --daemonize --login

The next day (approx. 24 hours):

 zelle24481 0.0 0.0 437996 4104 ?SLl May01 0:00
/usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon --daemonize --login

There doesn't appear to be a memory leak, however the virtual memory allocation
shown by ps is still significant with 440 Mb. I see this with lots of programs
on 64 bit ubuntu, though, so that may be another problem altogether.

Note that I have disabled some of the xdg services in the mean time,
which may prevent me from seeing the problem return. I've disabled the
following services (XFCE, located in ~/.config/autostart):

 gnome-keyring-gpg.desktop
 gnome-keyring-secrets.desktop
 gnome-keyring-pkcs11.desktop
 gnome-keyring-ssh.desktop

Instead, I now only start gnome-keyring once with the following options:

 gnome-keyring-daemon --start --components=pkcs11,secrets,ssh,gpg

I'm not sure if this is relevant for the bug(fix), but with that last
commandline everything seems to work fine now.

[Bug 1164016] Re: restore type-ahead find

2013-05-02 Thread Adam Dingle
One more point. When the Nautilus designers replaced type-ahead find with
search-as-you-type, their intention was that searching as you type would be
really fast because Nautilus would use Tracker to search. See, for example,
the comment https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=680118#c4 : Nautilus
will build with a Tracker dependency by default unless
--disable-tracker is used. That is strongly not recommended. Search is going to
kind of suck without it.

Because Ubuntu does not use Tracker, searching as you type in Nautilus
is especially painful on Ubuntu, and so the removal of type-ahead find
affects Ubuntu users especially acutely.

So in Ubuntu we could enable Tracker, which would alleviate the problem
somewhat, and/or patch type-ahead find back in. I lean toward the
patch: it's probably really easy. But I agree with Alfredo that finding
some solution to this should have more than a Low importance.

[Bug 1159411] Re: Some online accounts cannot be added

Looks like this bug affects both existing accounts and the creation of
new ones. After upgrading from 12.10 to 13.04, the only client working
for me was Google. My other existing accounts for AIM, Yahoo and ICQ did
not appear to be working. I decided to remove my AIM account and re-add
it. Like the others above, the login details screen is blank.

Wish I hadn't upgraded my work computer now. I use IM extensively to
keep in touch with co-workers and clients. I've been in the dark since
upgrading.

Re: [Bug 1159411] Re: Some online accounts cannot be added

2013-05-02 Thread Greg Michalec
Scott -
I use AIM for work as well. I've installed pidgin (an alternate IM
client) so I can still communicate until this bug is resolved.

On 05/02/2013 07:20 AM, Scott Hinton wrote:
Looks like this bug affects both existing accounts and the creation of
new ones. After upgrading from 12.10 to 13.04, the only client working
for me was Google. My other existing accounts for AIM, Yahoo and ICQ did
not appear to be working. I decided to remove my AIM account and re-add
it. Like the others above, the login details screen is blank.

Wish I hadn't upgraded my work computer now. I use IM extensively to
keep in touch with co-workers and clients. I've been in the dark since
 upgrading.

Yes, meta-gnome3 for instance could provide a gnome-games metapackage. I
mentioned it to Debian but didn't really get a response. You could file
a bug for that though.

[Bug 1153934] Re: Some radio streams which used to play OK don't play after updating to rhythmbox 2.98

2013-05-02 Thread Frans Ojala
I would also like to confirm the bug. The same behavior repeated on all
streams: player pauses and stop responding. Killing the gvfsd-http
did not help. I tried not using LastFM plugin without success.

I was able to get things working by disabling crossfade altogether. I
enabled it yesterday and today Rhythmbox stopped working. I did play
some music, but did not restart streams or the player after enabling
until today.

[Bug 1137384] [NEW] System Settings dialog fails to close

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When the System Settings dialog is opened, it fails to navigate to any

automatically reopening. Therefore I cannot adjust these settings via

in the latest update package.

[Bug 1175731] [NEW] maximum volume when device connects, can't adjust unless I open sound settings

2013-05-02 Thread Sabin Iacob
Public bug reported:

Pretty much what the subject says

Expected behaviour when an audio device connects:

* sound switches to the device
* volume is restored to the value it had before disconnecting (or 100% if there
is no stored value)
* volume control indicator controls the volume for the Bluetooth device

What actually happens:

* sound switches to the device
* the volume is at 100%; however, in sound settings the previous value is
preserved, it's just not applied
* the volume control indicator controls the builtin audio, not the Bluetooth
device
* after manually selecting the BT device in sound settings, the volume control
indicator is able to control it; the previous volume is still not restored
until volume control is actually used

[Bug 1132215] Re: rhythmbox crashes when syncing library to ipod

2013-05-02 Thread Audiger Jeremy
I don't know if your theory is just David M but in my case, this is not a file
which is corrupted that it produces the crash of rhythmbox..
My Ipod is not synchronize with rhythmbox, I put musics on it when I want, I
don't want to synchronize all of my music and it's why I put specially musics
one by one on it. And today, every music I have tried, the rhythmbox player
crashed. I have tried MP3 or OGG files but it crashes unexpectedly.

systemd (202-0ubuntu5) saucy; urgency=low

  * Drop 0016-Add-poweroff-reboot-suspend-hibernate-fallback.patch.
systemd-shim 3 has a much better implementation of pm-utils fallback.
Recommend systemd or systemd-shim = 3 for that.

[Bug 1175771] [NEW] Universal Access Bounce Keys disrupts YubiKey use

[Bug 1166125] Re: Ubuntu (Xubuntu) 13.04 beta, broken fonts for Gtk based applications

2013-05-02 Thread Karolis
I don't know about fonts - it seems fine to me, but I have rather more serious
bug than fonts:
gtk application are not running at all! I didn't change anything since upgrade
(and a while before), I use gthumb and evince quite frequently I never had any
problems, but since upgrade both programs are not running at all, they don't
show up any temporary/permanently-hanged windows - nothing. running in terminal
shows this:

(gthumb:25574): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: No GSettings schemas are installed on the
system
Trace/breakpoint trap

(evince:25547): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: No GSettings schemas are installed on the
system
Trace/breakpoint trap

identical errors with echo $? = 133

---

And while writting this post - I found the sollution:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall libglib2.0-0
and both programs run (thank me, google, luck the force :])

[Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2013-05-02 Thread Luis Alvarado
Happens to me. Tried the following

Folder X - Total Files 10
Folder X/Sub 1 - Total Files 2159
Folder X/Sub 2 - Total Files 1190
Folder X/Sub 3 - Total Files 3388
Folder X/Sub 4 - Total Files 2408

I did a search on Folder X for all files in the Sub folders then tried
to CUT all of them and put them in the main Folder X. It started copying
but after about 1000 files, everything started freezing. Then the whole
process simply stopped.

I have an Intel Core i7 processor and 16GB of ram so hardware is not a
limiting factor here.

I then tried copying from a single folder, but if the folder had, at
least 1200+ files the problem appeared. the more files it had after the
1000+ file limit, the faster the problem appeared.

What could be limiting this and even freezing the whole system to the
point that I need to do a hard reset sometimes.
