[Bug 1180240] [NEW] Rhythmbox crashes, not enough memory to figure out why

2013-05-15 Thread Alan Pope ㋛
Private bug reported:

If I leave RB running on my computer overnight, often when I come back,
RB has crashed and a dialog appears telling me:-

Sorry the program 'Rhythmbox' closed unexpectedly

Your computer does not have enough free memory to automatically analyse
the problem and send a report to the developers.

I see a crash in /var/crash and will try to unpack and upload it to this bug.

[Bug 1158710] Re: Hardware buttons doesn't adjust monitor brightness

2013-05-15 Thread Tim Lennon
I have the same problem with my E530. Also, if I adjust the brightness
through display settings, it does not remember them next time I boot.

It makes a significant difference to the battery life, so it would be
great to get it corrected :-)

[Bug 1180326] [NEW] sound-juicer cannot find CD-ROM (but I can browse CD contents using nautilus)

2013-05-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

sound-juicer worked in Ubuntu 12.10, but after upgrading to 13.04, it
cannot read audio CDs.

* When starting sound-juicer, an error dialog appears with the following
message:

Could not start Sound Juicer

Reason: The plugin necessary for CD access was not found.
Please consult the documentation for assistance.

Additionally, the terminal window is filled with a kind of parsing-
errors/warnings of this kind. This could be unrelated.

The sound-juicer main window appears, and is populated with correct
song-names corresponding to the CD in the CD-ROM. Pressing the extract-
button, however, does not work. It gives another error message:

Sound Juicer could not extract this CD.
Reason: Could not create GStreamer CD reader

* If starting sound-juicer with sudo (not reccomended to do), the error message
is somewhat different:

No CD-ROM drives found

Sound Juicer could not find any CD-ROM drives to read.

The sound-juicer main window does not appear at all in this case.

So basically you're saying that this is hardcoded in nautilus to be a
reddish-brown shade, even while allowing the icon to be overridden by the icon
theme? If this behaviour isn't broken, I don't know what broken is.

Well, for now let's just redirect the bug to nautilus -- if Unity's just
allowing applications to specify what colour their icons should be, then it's
Unity's fault.

*not* Unity's fault, I mean.

I just had a quick chat with seb128 on the issue, and it looks like it's
supposed to be a temporary hack until the average-icon-colour algorithm gets
fixed.

But really, encoding the background colour of the tile into the .desktop file
has to be *the* hackiest solution ever. Desktop files are recommended to only
specify the icon name so that it can be resolved according to the users' icon
theme. Icon-theme-specific data really does not belong in the .desktop file.

I get that it's not easy (and not possible?) to add custom metadata to .png's,
so how about a solution involving an out-of-band file placed beside the icon
like $icon_name.png.unity-hint that Unity can parse for hints?

[Bug 732941] Re: Certification authorities can't be marked as reliable

2013-05-15 Thread Alberto Salvia Novella
But many of the described bugs are solved too, and bug managing will
improve over time. Just look two releases ago: the beta of 13.04 was jet
more stable than 12.10, and with less design defects than 12.04-LTS.

On the other hand, now I'm member of Ubuntu BugControl with so much more
ability in bug management than when I wrote this report. I'm impressed
how much quality and attention my bugs reports have get.

David, thanks a lot for the guide. When I checked the file, though, line

First, why is Canonical letting non tested software into IT'S repos?
Second, like I said, if Canonical can not support the software in it's
repos, it should not be in there. Frankly I am tired of using buggy or
broken software because Canonical is unable to handle the workload they
took on to make this OS. No one care if it comes from universe or
someones ass, all they want is for it to work. There is too much broken
software in Ubuntu's repos.
