[Bug 1053217] Re: gdm leaking filehandles, causing too many open files
Hi, Is there any possibility of this patch being reviewed and included in the Ubuntu 10.04 series? We just had the customer at this site ring up complaining that they couldn't log in today. Turns out something reverted our patched gdm package back to the original Ubuntu one. Think: big industrial system, and when this problem occurs we have to boot everyone off to restart gdm. It was good until the old package got instated then the service restarted, causing the old problem to occur once more. This is our problem, but you could help us a little if you put out an updated gdm binary. Or, as a work around: maybe tell us a way we can stop the update manager from messing with the one we have now. The original patch is linked in the original post, my revised patch is supplied, and I've given detail on how to reproduce the problem and how to check if the problem is fixed. [Bug 1168441] Re: rhyhtmbox: high cpu-usage when playing music from second hard drive
I have a similar issue. I have a AMD A8 quad core laptop with 8gb RAM, fresh install of Ubuntu 13.04. In my case, my primary drive is an SSD and my secondary drive (also mounted in the laptop) is a standard HDD. All the music is on the secondary HDD and it /is/ auto-mounted at boot. Every time I start rhythmbox up, rhythmbox-metadata takes up 25% CPU (100% of one core). This does not appear to be an issue with changing files while rhythmbox is closed. It already loaded the entire collection (6198 songs, 56.8gb) but still it takes 100% CPU. I did not have this problem when I was using amarok on Kubuntu 12.10. [Bug 372132] Re: Create Document Templates difficult to use
As a long-year Ubuntu and Linux Mint user, I always used to think this Create New Document menu was a work in progress. Since it is not an indispensable functionality, it seemed reasonable that this would be broken. But reading this bug report made me feel sad about it. Why on earth should it be wrong to add some default templates to that menu? It's just one out of many decisions that a Linux distribution makes for its users. All it takes are some templates for the default apps that come with the distribution. Once they are there, users will realize that this feature actually works, and may even figure out how to add custom templates. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/372132 Title: Create Document Templates difficult to use To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/372132/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 296867] Re: empathy needs to support OTR encryption
@sam-liddicott Empathy does not need to support OTR, because *there are no* alternatives that do. Empathy needs to support OTR, because *there are* alternatives that do. It is state of the art to support OTR and Empathy not including it is backward. Empathy is the instant messenger included the GNOME desktop which ships as a default for many modern distributions, so Empathy is itself a default. An user could educate oneself about this default, notice this backwardness and replace Empathy with a less backward instant messenger. Educating oneself about the security of the installed instant messenger requires but examination that not all users may be able to perform, because of the complexity of the topic. So especially the less computer literate users, who would benefit the most from it will not get covered by OTR. So this boils down to a question of defaults: Should the default be to ship an instant messenger with OTR-support with GNOME desktop? I think recent revelations have shown that security by default should have been targeted wherever possible for a long time now. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/296867 Title: empathy needs to support OTR encryption To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/empathy/+bug/296867/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
