[Bug 1223049] [NEW] file save dialog cripples dirnames while having much space

2013-09-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

See screenshots and german rant here:
http://demystifikation.wordpress.com/2013/09/09/dat-dial/

DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=12.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=precise
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS

Gedit 3.4.1 Xubuntu 12.04 LTS

When opening a file, the file open - Dialog cripples the directory
names, while having plenty of space to show the full names:

scala val pfad = /home/stefan/proj/mini/forum
pfad: String = /home/stefan/proj/mini/forum

scala val dirsAndFile = pfad.split (/).tail dirsAndFile:
Array[String] = Array(home, stefan, proj, mini, forum)

scala println (pfad.length)
28

The size in which the dialog opens is about 1000 pixel. That would allow
30 pixel per character, even if you substract something for button
borders and the initial icons. Another bad idea is, to shorten a 5
character dirname to 4 characters + You could for example shorten
only names longer than 5 to 4 + ... like this demo code in Scala
shows:

List (vier, fuenf, sechse, siehben).foreach (x = { if (x.length  5)
println (x.take (4) + ...) else println (x)})
vier
fuenf
sech...
sieh...

** Affects: gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

2013-09-11 Thread jaromil
This bug was not solved, by closing it you imply there was no bug in the
first place, but people disagree to that. I for one report the bug is
there, .5 seconds is a too short delay and there is no way to change it.
Meanwhile a patch was also released, see:

[Bug 1222970] Re: layout options gone from keyboard preferences

2013-09-11 Thread Erno Kuusela
No, the Saucy comment is 5 days old:

 This option has disappeared in Ubuntu Saucy. I'm not sure how to
explain this but it is simply not there. The Keyboard preferences have
no Layout tab, but there is a layout settings button, and when I
click it it takes me to the Input Sources tab of the Region
Language panel, which is mysteriously lacking any kind of 'Options'
button. The only button there opens up a virtual on-screen keyboard that
displays my broken keyboard layout to me with no way of changing which
keys behave which way. – Robru Sep 6 at 18:34

[Bug 1222970] Re: layout options gone from keyboard preferences

2013-09-11 Thread Jeremy Bicha
For Ubuntu 13.10, the extra keyboard layout options are in gnome-tweak-
tool. This bug will be fixed when we upgrade gnome-control-center to 3.8
as it moves many of the options back to gnome-control-center.

The screwdriver button only works for certain ibus input method
settings. I'm pushing an update now to saucy to go ahead and hide the
button completely when it's not available instead of greying it out.

Can't confirm, see the same in updated saucy,
To refresh -
Open nautilus, browse to any dir. mounted in /media/username/,then
minimize nautilus.
Clicking on the launcher icon opens a new nautilus window at user Home
instead of minimized window

[Bug 1224265] Crash report cannot be processed

2013-09-11 Thread Apport retracing service
Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate a useful symbolic stack trace). This
might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on your system
at the time of the report:

outdated debug symbol package for libexpat1: package version 2.1.0-4
dbgsym version 2.1.0-2

Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!
