[Bug 1239010] Re: gnome-settings activation freezes computer

2013-10-12 Thread Baldrick
I have an Intel Sandybridge chip, and suffer the same problem on two
laptops. The screens on both laptops just freeze mid application, then
slowly unfreeze. If music is playing, it stutters as the screen freezes.

Ram usage post freeze is about 600mb for systems settings alone. Killing
the process in System manager following freeze fixes issue, and the
laptop then performs fine.

[Bug 1035431] Re: bluetooh-wizard failed to connect to a keyboard(logitech)

2013-10-12 Thread molecule-eye
I had this problem on Ubuntu Gnome 3.10 Final beta. The bug was also
present on Fedora 20 Alpha 1 (Gnome 3.10). The only issue seems to be
that the pin information is not being retrieved by bluetooth-wizard.

To get around the issue, I set my keyboard (MS Sculpt Mobile) to
discovery mode, ran sudo hcidump -at in a terminal, then opened
bluetooth-wizard, attempted to connect to the keyboard, checked for the
pin in the terminal as reported by hcidump, entered that into the
keyboard and pressed enter, and bluetooth-wizard completed the set up.

[Bug 1239087] [NEW] Safely remove is not working (or broken) in Gnome Disks

2013-10-12 Thread Norbert
Public bug reported:

In 12.04 I was able to safely remove USB-stick (make its LED off) and USB-HDD
(do a spin down).
In 13.04 this option is missed.

In 13.10 it is appeared again, but not working as expected:

git repository has even been archived. XUbuntu needs to find another
user management tool based on accountsservice.

BTW, this bug lacks a proper backtrace to be of any use.

[Bug 1239119] [NEW] laptop suspends automatically when on AC power despite settings saying not to

2013-10-12 Thread Christopher Barrington-Leigh

[Bug 1233466] Re: Hot-Add Memory failing for lack of udev rule

This bug was fixed in the package systemd - 204-0ubuntu18

---
systemd (204-0ubuntu18) saucy; urgency=low

  * Configure with --disable-silent-rules, as per request from Matthias.
  * Add debian/extra/rules/40-hyperv-hotadd.rules: On Hyper-V VMs, bring new
CPU and memory devices online as soon as they appear. This is not quite an
ideal solution, but an unintrusive compromise for Saucy. (LP: #1233466)

Looks like upstream bug
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=693988 covers at least the
part about the volume control indicator controls the builtin audio, not
the Bluetooth device. The part about forgetting the volume is not
covered (I don't know whether that would be a feature request).

Well, I was able to fix this by opening gnome-tweak tool and setting the

[Bug 1239159] [NEW] On renaming Documents folder for new language no renaming occure - a second Document folder is created

2013-10-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The original system language for installation was US english. Some days
ago I have decided to set the system to a different language(german). On
new login the system ask if the names of the standard folders in the
home directory should be kept, or should be renamed.

On choosing renaming from US-enlish to german names there is no
renaming.

Instead a second Documents folder in german language is created(called:
Dokumente).

As a result I have two Documents folders. One called in english the
other in german.

The really big problem is that they contain different files and do not
share the files with each other.

Steps to reproduce:
1.Install the system in US-English
2. After finished installation use the system settings - Language to set the
language to german
3.Restart the system
4.After login the system ask if the standard folders in the home folder
directory should be renamed: Choose yes, rename in german
5.See that instead of renaming the old Documents folder still exist and just
a second (in german) Dokumente folder was created.
6. See taht the contained files a different for both folders

Expected: The renaming should be a renaming and not a creation of a
second standard Document folder in a different language(here: German:
Dokumente)

[Bug 1239218] [NEW] [regression] Rhythmbox crashes with segfault when playing next track

2013-10-12 Thread Shane Synan
Public bug reported:

How to reproduce:
Start Rhythmbox, make sure you have at least two songs available
Begin playback on a track, wait for it to finish (you can skip to near the
end of the track if you're impatient)

Expected:
The next track plays, Rhythmbox doesn't crash.

What happens:
Rhythmbox reliably crashes whenever changing tracks.

Other notes:
I started playing from the Music view, viewing all artists and albums.
Shuffle was enabled, repeat was disabled. I also edited PulseAudio's
configuration to stream audio to my netbook, which is on the local LAN, running
PulseAudio as a standard user.

/etc/pulse/client.conf
# Connect to the local music laptop
default-server = dj-foxee

All other media players on my computer have no issue with the media
streaming (Totem, mplayer, GNOME-Sushi, Firefox, Adobe Flash). This
only started happening after upgrading to Ubuntu 13.10 dev from 13.04.

System notes:
Ubuntu Saucy Salamander (development branch)
Rhythmbox 2.99.1-0ubuntu1

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to ctrl+shift

2013-10-12 Thread Egmont Koblinger
I've upgraded from previous versions where I had Alt+Shift as the shortcut
toggling between English and Hungarian. Now, not being to specify this, I chose
Ctrl+Space. The current behavior is:
- If I select English in the indicator or via Ctrl+Space then the layout is
English, and Alt+Shift does nothing.
- If I select Hungarian in the indicator or via Ctrl+Space then the layout is
initially Hungarian but Alt+Shift toggles between En and Hu, but without
updating the indicator.
Total chaos.

In Text Entry Settings, if I press the Windows key plus Space, I get
Mod4+Super+Hyper+Space displayed -- what the heck??? Mod4 and Hyper,
what the hell are those, and why aren't they shown on the Keyboard
Layout Chart, and why does the dialog claim I pressed them? And how do I
revert to the previous value which was simply Super+Space?

Moreover, Ctrl+Space (my currently specified shortcut) only works if I
press Ctrl, press Space, release Space and finally release Ctrl in this
order. If I release the two keys in reverse order (which is way more
natural for me as my hand quickly rolls over the two keys, rather than
stopping and moving backwards) then it doesn't work. Yet again a total
usability failure.

This whole thing is a complete disaster :(

[Bug 1239260] [NEW] Set transparent parts of images to white by default, not 'check pattern'.

2013-10-12 Thread Anthony Harrington
Public bug reported:

If you download an image off say, Wikipedia, it's probably a .png. When
this comes to your computer and you open it with eog, by default it will
have a horrible checkered pattern on it (because the background for
these images is 'transparent') and this checkered pattern makes things
totally unreadable (e.g. chemistry reaction mechanisms).

The solution is to view the image with eog and go to Edit - Preferences
and set the transparent parts to be a custom colour (white) to have a
white background.

I propose that by default, the transparent parts should be set to appear
white so images get a nice, standard white background which makes things
LEGIBLE rather than the current checkered style which isn't helping
anyone.

(What a nightmare for users trying to open a PNG and being met by a
checkered pattern that they swear wasn't there when they downloaded it.
I went through quite some time wondering if i should convert the PNG to
another format like SVG to get rid of it, but the problem is on the
image viewing end, not the image itself. I shudder to think how many
people have hit this problem but not known what to do and given up.)

** Affects: eog (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1239265] [NEW] Opening any settings page resets displays

2013-10-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Most times when I open, for example, sound settings (from the indicator
menu or from the dash), my display configuration resets and all my
monitors are turned off, leaving only the laptop screen on, as if I went
to display settings and choose to turn off both monitors. If I click in
Detect Displays, the previous configuration is restored automatically.

Also, every time I spend enough time away from the computer and the
displays turn off, when I come back only the laptop display is on. I
have to open display settings and it automatically sets back to what it
was before, I don't even need to click on Detect Displays in this
case. So it seems Ubuntu is having a hard time to remember my display
settings, and it seems to load this wrong default every time any
settings are called, causing the displays to turn off.

I have a X220 in a minidock, with two monitors plugged in the DVI ports.
The configuration resets most times I open any settings, and this
happens whether I'm with both monitors on and laptop display off, or
only one monitor and the laptop display both on.

[Bug 1239265] Re: Opening any settings page resets displays

apport information

** Package changed: ubuntu-system-settings (Ubuntu) = gnome-control-
center (Ubuntu)

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

[Bug 1045899] Re: Maximum number of clients reached

2013-10-12 Thread padarjohn
This is a serious regression. I never had any problem like this through
all the releases of Ubuntu I've used. This has been a non-stop annoyance
ever since upgrading to 12.04LTS.

Using the Nvidia driver.
