[Bug 1240850] [NEW] Typo in Timezone/City
Public bug reported: When selecting your location, the city of Munich in Bavaria/Germany is recognized as Munic - that is not the correct spelling in English. Alternatively, the German international spelling would be Muenchen, and the German spelling München. [Bug 885989] Re: white screen on second monitor when using two xsessions
You are missing screen number in server layout: Section ServerLayout Identifier aticonfig Layout Screen 0 aticonfig-Screen[0]-0 0 0 Screen 1 aticonfig-Screen[0]-1 RightOf aticonfig-Screen[0]-0 EndSection And maybe add Screen 0 to first device too: Section Device Identifier aticonfig-Device[0]-0 Driver fglrx BusID PCI:1:0:0 Screen 0 EndSection You are unable to reproduce because you are NOT using two screens. Your second screen is deleted (error line you provided). So I think you are using just two monitors as one screen. Both bugs are still in saucy. I have 3 screens - two with white background. And compiz does not handle two or more screens anymore. [Bug 1240870] [NEW] nautilus performance when copying several files from smbnetfs (fuse)
Public bug reported: I'm using smbnetfs for accesing a remote fileserver: smbnetfs on /tmp/test type fuse.smbnetfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,user=e1) when I copy a directory with several (hundreds) of files performance is really bad and it takes lot of time. for example a directori with 300 files takes 5 seconds with `cp' command $ time cp -r USMT301/ /tmp/ real 0m4.671s user 0m0.020s sys 0m0.128s and with nautilus takes about 10 minutes. so it's clearly a problem with nautilus, not smbnetfs. if you copy just one big file (for example an ISO) performance is OK. to replicate just launch smbnetfs and copy a dir with several files with nautilus. I'm not sure if it affects other fuse filesystems and it seems related to nautilus not recognizing fuse mount point as a remote filesystem. maybe related: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=101691 this is a critical stopper for me as I already migrated 50 desktops to linux in my department and I just discovered this. any solution or workaround will be really wellcome. please, ask for further info. $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS Release: 12.04 ii nautilus 1:3.4.2-0ubuntu8 file manager and graphical shell for GNOME ii smbnetfs 0.5.3a-1 User-space filesystem for SMB/NMB (Windows) network servers ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: nautilus performance smbnetfs -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1240870 Title: nautilus performance when copying several files from smbnetfs (fuse) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1240870/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1240957] [NEW] Scrolling behaviour and window focus has changed and is inconsistent
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I wasn't sure which package to file this bug against, but seeing as it's a general desktop usability/consistency bug, the top level desktop environment seemed like a good target. On Ubuntu 13.10, AMD64, everything default (Unity 7 on X.org etc), except for installing nvidia-319-updates, all current packages as of now (2013-10-17; unity 7.1.2+13.10.20131014.1-0ubuntu1), I now have this behaviour which is different from Ubuntu versions up to 13.04, and, is also inconsistent within itself. Here's what I've found: The scrolling behaviour has changed, and seems to be different per application in Ubuntu 13.10. The old behaviour (up to 13.04): mouse pointer above window would allow scrolling, regardless of focus Apps that use the old behaviour: libreoffice, firefox, gnome-terminal The new behaviour (13.10): window must be focused, and pointer hovered above to allow scrolling Apps that use the new behaviour: nautilus, gedit, ubuntu-bug, software-updater STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open gEdit, press enter until the window is scrollable. 2. Open Firefox, go to a webpage that's scrollable. 3. Place gEdit above Firefox but off to the right side so gEdit's scrollbar is still visible, have gEdit focused. 4. Position mouse pointer above gEdit, observe scrollwheel causes gEdit window to scroll. 5. Move mouse pointer above Firefox but do not focus Firefox, observe scrollwheel causes Firefox window to scroll. 6. Focus Firefox, leave pointer above Firefox, observe scrollwheel causes Firefox window to scroll 7. Move mouse pointer above gEdit but do not focus gEdit, observe scrollwheel FAILS to cause gEdit window to scroll. This behaviour is the same with any combination of the above apps (libreoffice, firefox, gnome-terminal all scrollable as long as pointer is above them; nautilus, gedit, software-updater, ubunut-bug will not scroll unless focused *and* have pointer above them) What *SHOULD* happen, is that any window will scroll as long as the pointer is above it. That's how it's always been in Ubuntu. [Bug 988251] Re: Nautilus cut, copy, paste, move and rename options are greyed out and stop working
As doggenult said it seems that the problem is related to thumbnails. I'm using and old release of ubuntu (11.10 with Nautilus 3.2.1) and have experienced the problem that doggenult commented. I usually generate large pdf files with latex. Sometimes when I navigate in the folder where the file is located, the file doesnt appear. This is a serious regression since it worked on all previous version of Ubuntu since Lucid at least (even earlier versions not tested because I didn't own the camera at that time). It is easy to reproduce: - Start PC from USB stick with current Saucy daily live image - Connect and turn on camera - Open Nautilus, browse the files on the camera, select one of them and right-click - copy - Now when I try to paste the file into my home directory, I get an error dialog saying copying failed with the reason Operation not supported by backend (see attached screenshot) I get the same error message if I try to copy the file on terminal with the command gvfs-copy. However, if I try to copy a file on terminal with the gphoto2 tool, e.g. 'gphoto2 --get-file 1', this works. [Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.
Ladies and gentelmen, this is a farce. What age are we living in? For at least three releases they didn't care about GNOME lacking the keyboard indicator because of how they mixed up wrong versions of GNOME and IBus packages. It took 1.5-2 years to get this fixed. Thanks! Alas the rocket scientists at Ubuntu finally shot themselves in the foot. Again. I upgraded my Ubuntu GNOME Remix to 13.10 few weeks ago and in GNOME this strange Super+Space combo *works*: both the actual layout and the indicator is changed. (But why on earth is this combo enforced as a default? I didn't ask for it: for the last decade I've been switching layouts with Shift+Shift and would be glad to continue with it as is. Well, at least something works for now.) However, I just upgraded another laptop which runs Unity. And there even the Super+Space combo doesn't work. Only the dash gets opened, which means there is no way to change the layout. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1218322 Title: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc. To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/indicator-keyboard/+bug/1218322/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1217230] Re: [Regression] Can't copy files from digital camera (Operation not supported by backend)
** Description changed: [ Description ] Copying from some devices is broken over gvfs [ Test case ] - ? + - browse a directory with a .tar.gz, using nautilus + - right click on the file, select open with archive mounter + + - that makes the archive being listed as a mount in the sidebar/unity + launcher + + - browse that mount, find a file to copy in there + - try to copy it to your user directory + + - if the fix is doing its job, the copy should work without error [ Proposed fix ] Cherry-pick upstream commit 44edc3829d6db3fabe22d837eaaf2638003516c9 to fall back to g_file_query_info if query_info_on_read isn't supported. [ Regression potential ] Adds an extra step into file copying over gvfs. Check all previous gvfs copies still work. [ Original report ] Hello, on Saucy I can't copy files from my digital camera to my PC anymore via file manager. It also works if I copy files with cp in a terminal from gvfs-mountpoint mounted at /run/user/my_userid/gvfs/my_camera_mountpoint . I can set Ctrl+Shift in 'Text Entry', but it does not switch anything. If I set Ctrl+Space (e.g.) it does work. But works badly. Badly means that I need to take care of which key is released first. And also if I switch 10 or 20 times fastly, system hangs for a while. Unusable. Good that old xkb way still works but does not affect indicator. Anf if I use xkb way, key combinations like Ctrl+Alt+T do not work, if layout is not English.
[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.
I'll add my experience. Starting point: setting keyboard shortcuts did nothing, pressing alt+shift always reverted to what was already there Messing with dconf did not help - result: caused some weird key combos when trying to set the keyboard shortcuts. no key combos actually worked. (note: did not remove the dconf settings before proceeding) Added the ppa and upgraded - same result, could input weird key combos, but none actually worked. Removed the dconf (and rebooted): could now change keyboard shortcuts to some sensible keys, ie alt+shift L. This actually worked as well! Both the icon changes, and the layout is changed. In short, upgrading with the new ppa fixed the problem, as long as the dconf was not messed with. I did tell apport to send an error report to help fix this problem several time, and just did it again from the same file I attached just then. Where do those error reports go? [Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.
This affects me too. still... I just wonder, HOW this unstable buggy thing was got to release? Bugs about that was revealed 2-3 months ago, so there was enough time to fix, or remove it. This issue deals with main UX, it makes whole OS totally uncomfortable for desktop users. [Bug 1227920] Re: after suspend/resume, the Unity HUD is always open when I unlock the screen
Just upgraded to 13.10 today and noticed this bug still persists. I've tried suspending using the menu as well as closing the lid, and both methods suffer from the HUD being initialized upon wake. [Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.
This is so annoying!!! Besides not being able to set up my own set of keys (pressing both shifts keys) the default Super+Space doesn't work at all. I'm trying different combinations but many are not accepted and only horrible ones I can select. I can't believe Canonical didn't realize that this was an important bug and that it should have been fixed months ago. How hard could it be? [Bug 1241318] [NEW] Horizontal scrolling enabled by default. Option to disable removed in settings GUI.
Public bug reported: Horizontal scrolling is enabled by default as of 13.10. I'm aware it can be disabled through dconf editor but the option to disable this in gnome-control-center is missing. Two finger scrolling is very difficult to use with horizontal scrolling enabled and many users won't figure out how to disable it and make it work like they expect.
