[Bug 1238346] Re: on bootup wrong keyboard layout is recognized

2013-10-21 Thread Thierry Seewald
Just to give some precision:

when I display the Présentation de l'agencement (keyboard layout or
layout presentation or whatever) who displays a keyboard, its a french
keyboard which is displayed and when I hit the left corner alphabetical
key on the keyboard it shows that the left corner key is hit and that it
is an a but in all programs it's a q which appears.

And when I deselect and reselect French keyboard on the new keyboard
icon (and french is the only one that appears as a choice in this icon),
then the keyboard is correct.

I used CapsLock for switching for years (Shift+CapsLock for capitals
locking), it must be fixed. I've temporarily set Ctrl+Shift+Space (as
Super+Space does not work!) for switching and noticed that NumLock turns
off every time i switch!

[Bug 1240870] Re: nautilus performance when copying several files from smbnetfs (fuse)

2013-10-21 Thread muzzol
** Description changed:

I'm using smbnetfs for accesing a remote fileserver:

-smbnetfs on /tmp/test type fuse.smbnetfs
+    smbnetfs on /tmp/test type fuse.smbnetfs
  (rw,nosuid,nodev,user=e1)

when I copy a directory with several (hundreds) of files performance is
really bad and it takes lot of time.

for example a directori with 300 files takes 5 seconds with `cp' command

-$ time cp -r USMT301/ /tmp/
+    $ time cp -r USMT301/ /tmp/

-real 0m4.671s
-user 0m0.020s
-sys0m0.128s
+    real 0m4.671s
+    user 0m0.020s
+    sys0m0.128s

and with nautilus takes about 10 minutes. so it's clearly a problem with
nautilus, not smbnetfs.
if you copy just one big file (for example an ISO) performance is OK.

to replicate just launch smbnetfs and copy a dir with several files with
  nautilus.

I'm not sure if it affects other fuse filesystems and it seems related
to nautilus not recognizing fuse mount point as a remote filesystem.

  maybe related:

  https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=101691
+ https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=657208
+

this is a critical stopper for me as I already migrated 50 desktops to linux
in my department and I just discovered this.
any solution or workaround will be really wellcome.

  please, ask for further info.

[Bug 1238346] Re: on bootup wrong keyboard layout is recognized

Same problem.

It is likely to go back to qwerty when the layout is changed via
keyboard layout change shortcut. When you change it with Super+Space it
is often stuck on one keyboard layout and sometimes it corresponds with
the selected layout, sometimes not.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-21 Thread Norbert
1. I installed gnome-panel in fresh 13.10 and I can switch layouts with
Super+Space and Shift+Super+Space.
What is interesting if I login (on boot) to Gnome Flashback session I can use
Super+Space and Shift+Super+Space for layout switching.
If then I logout and login to Ubuntu (Unity) session I can switch layouts with
Alt+Shift (scroll lock indicates layout, but indicator-keyboard in gnome panel
is not change).
As far I can understand - Alt+Shift combination is created by installer and
stored in /etc/default/keyboard (commented lines removed):
#...
XKBMODEL=pc105
XKBLAYOUT=us,ru
XKBVARIANT=,
XKBOPTIONS=grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll
#...

2. I also installed fresh Ubuntu GNOME 13.10 and I unable to set
Ctrl+Shift or Alt+Shift for layout switching in it. Alt+Shift works only
if it is defined in /etc/default/keyboard (by ubiquity). Super+Space and
Shift+Super+Space works normally.

3. @Lockal
installing GNOME 3.10 from PPA is not a solution for this bug.
The solution is to fix it before release or drop indicator-keyboard away now as
not-well-tested alpha stage application. Or, of course, use 12.04.3 LTS.

So there are configuration problems between indicator-keyboard, xkbswitch, ibus
and so on.

And it seems that ubiquity is also related to this bug - it wrote
Alt+Shift combination to /etc/config/keyboard , while on first login
there is a small notification about Ibus and Super+Space for layout
switching. See https://launchpad.net/bugs/1242572 .

[Bug 1242589] [NEW] Shotwell crashed while deleting images

2013-10-21 Thread Colin Law
Public bug reported:

Running 0.15.0-0ubuntu1 on Saucy, while deleting images (stepping
through then and hitting del key) shotwell froze and the screen darkened
for maybe 30 seconds. The disk was chattering and I suspect it was
grabbing large amounts of memory and causing disk swapping. It then
crashed but a popup said it was unable to report the crash as there was
insufficient memory. Crash report log attached.

[Bug 192508] Re: mouse keys too easy to accidently turn on

2013-10-21 Thread Id2ndR
In saucy the combination is Alt + LShift + NumLock. The problem is that it is
not listed in Settings Keyboard Shortcuts Universal Access.
It's also difficult to find Settings Universal Access Pointing and Clicking
Mouse Keys (Control the pointer using the keypad) to go back to normal
behavior after using the combination by mistake.
In fact it was easier for me to find
org/gnome/desktop/a11y/keyboard/mousekeys-enable=true using dconf dump / (this
is a paradox about accessibility! )

pops up quickly and is immediatly closed again. This only occurs in the
camera folder, otherwise this feature works. If it doesn't relate to
this problem, I will make another bug report.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-21 Thread Norbert
I commented out all four lines in /etc/default/keyboard and installed
packages from ppa:attente/1218322 and now I'm able to switch with
Ctrl+Shift or Alt+Shift or Caps Lock. Thank you, William Hua!

Tested on:
1. Ubuntu 13.10 (Unity and Gnome Flashback sessions).
2. Ubuntu 13.10 GNOME (GNOME, GNOME Classic, GNOME FlashBack sessions).

But shortcuts (such as Ctrl+Alt+T) on non-latin layout do not work (see
https://launchpad.net/bugs/1226962).

I have installed latest packages from ppa:attente/1218322 (Ctrl+Shift or

[Bug 1242678] [NEW] evince cannot render some EPS files

2013-10-21 Thread epii
Public bug reported:

I upgraded to Ubuntu Saucy,
evince cannot render EPS files generated by gnuplot.
(Just show an empty page.)

[how to reproduce]

1. Generate an EPS file using gnuplot by executing the following command.
$ gnuplot -e set terminal postscript; set output 'test.eps'; plot x;

2. Open the file test.eps just created.
$ evince test.eps

The following are what evince writes to the terminal.

(evince:24176): EvinceDocument-CRITICAL **: ev_document_get_n_pages:
assertion 'EV_IS_DOCUMENT (document)' failed

(evince:24176): Gtk-WARNING **: drawing failure for widget `EvView':
invalid matrix (not invertible)

(evince:24176): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_get_from_surface: assertion
'width 0 height 0' failed

(evince:24176): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_get_from_surface: assertion
'width 0 height 0' failed

3. Then evince just shows an empty (white) page.

===

If i rotate 90 or -90 degree by pressing Ctrl+Left or Ctrl+Right key,
evince can show this file correctly.

===

Okular, GIMP, inkscape and gs can show this EPS file.
(may be rotated 90 degree, however)

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-21 Thread orions.belts1
Sorry it doesn't work foo me.. deleted lines in /etc/default/keyboard, install
ppa, update-upgrade and restart. Changing through Region settings does not
allow me set Shift-whatever.
Gnome-tweak-tool can be set to Alt - Shift and indicator changes but not the
keyboard. Also pressing Alt-Shift in Gnome tweak (while Alt-Shift is set to
change layout) crashes the tweak tool with segfault. in dmesg i see after the
crash (

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-21 Thread ssy
For those who experience NextGroup problems, here is the procedure
that make Alt-Shift works for me.

The problem seems to be that Text Entry double-detect the Alt-Shift as
NextGroup key, which is the layout switch shortcut from xkb. The idea
is to completely disable xkboptions for layout switching.

1. Install latest PPA packages of gnome-control-center and gnome-settings from
above.
2. sudo vi /etc/default/keyboard, comment out everything unless you want to
redo everything again.
3. dconf-editor, edit org-gnome-desktop-input-sources, empty xkb-options.
In my turn I have also empty sources. YMMV.
4. Under System-Settings-Text-Entry, readd layout that might disappeared from
the step above, the reassign shortcut as you desired. It should not detect
Alt-Shift as NextGroup anymore.
5. For those who still doesn't works, try empty value in
org-gnome-libgnomekbd-keyboard. I emptied all values including model,
layout, and options.

Hope this helps.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-21 Thread ssy
Anyway, the problem with Super-1 still persist in my case, strangely
enough it only affect Pidgin, not other apps. It only has effect when my
layout is Th. If I press Super-1, instead of switching to assigned
application, it will output ๅ instead. Super-2 - 4 works ok.

Anyway this is still OK for me. Could be unrelated to this bug. Note
that I already tried different input method on Pidgin but still none
working (effect ranging from emitting ๅ or nothing happened at all).

see if this still happens if you purge the PPA from your system. If it
does, then please report a new bug. Otherwise you can take it up with

I think that very few users know hotkeys of vi editor. So I recommend to change
p. 2 in #159 to gedit.
(sudo gedit /etc/default/keyboard).

On fresh install (not upgrade) I deleted all files and directories which starts
from dot by rm -rf ~/.*.
But it is DANGEROUS if you need to save Firefox profile and other data from
previous Ubuntu versions.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-21 Thread ssy
I found that actually the problem with Super-1 for Th layout applied
to all other app, not just Pidgin.

And another quite serious this bug applied to, after all the changes I
made, is that I couldn't switch the layout in the lock screen!. It
always show as Th even if I press Alt-Shift which works for normal
desktop. Anyway I can still use mouse to switch the layout so I can get
pass the lock screen.

Before applying the changes, layout indicator didn't appeared on the
lock screen password prompt (in 13.04 it showed there and alt-shift
worked as it should). If I switch the layout to En before lock screen,
the layout indicator will not show at all. If the layout was Th, the
layout indicator will show th and either switch to next or previous
group shortcut are not working at all. Mouse click works and I can
safely log-in back.

[Bug 1228665] Re: gvfsd-mtp crashed with SIGSEGV in g_simple_async_result_complete()

2013-10-21 Thread Alberto Salvia Novella
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1242767] [NEW] computer freeze trying to exit gnome-control-center

2013-10-21 Thread vmc
Public bug reported:

1)
Description:Ubuntu 13.10
Release:13.10
===
2)
gnome-control-center:
  Installed: 1:3.6.3-0ubuntu44
  Candidate: 1:3.6.3-0ubuntu44
  Version table:
 *** 1:3.6.3-0ubuntu44 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ saucy/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
3)
I expect to be able to exit System Settings (gnome-control-center), without
freezing the computer
4) Clicking on the X to exit System Settings, the computer froze. No
response whatsoever. A power cycle was needed.

This happens using NOUVEAU driver only. If I install NVIDIA driver, then
this problem does not occur.

Hardware:
VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation C61 [GeForce 6150SE nForce 430]

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-21 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks for the interest in this bug, we are going to do a first SRU with
what is in the ppa, then iterate over that later with other fixes to
address the remaining issues

That bug is getting difficult to follow, it would be nice if:

- the SRU testers would focus on testing the specific fix described (we
know that some of the problems are still there, it shouldn't block us to
fix some of the issues though)

- comments about how annoying that bug is (or about how could you
release with that bug?) would stop, we all agree it's an important
issue and as working to address it, let's keep the bug useful to work to
a solution

- we should perhaps file different bugs about the different issues, it's
difficult to track different issues in a same ticket

** Description changed:

+ === gnome-control-center ===
+
+ Impact: the UI to change the layout switching keys doesn't work
+
+ Test case:
+ - open gnome-control-center's text input settings
+ - click on the next layout key entry
+ - try entering a key combinaison (e.g ctrl-space)
+ - the UI should reflect the new keys
+
+ Regression potential: that UI was not working before, it should only be
+ an improvement (some key combos are not working as expected, that's
+ another issue and shouldn't be mixed with this one)
+
+ --
+
Can't set keyboard layout change to ctrl+shift, Caps Lock, alt+shift
etc. Shift, CapsLock keys are just ignored in settings. Also the
default shortcut was set to Super+Space that is inconveniently,
because Dash is opening when you swich your keyboard layout.

[Bug 1195481] Re: [power]: gnome-control-center crashes if indicator-power is not installed in Unity

2013-10-21 Thread Iain Lane
** Description changed:

+ [ Description ]
+
+ gnome-control-center's power panel crashes when indicator-power isn't
+ installed.
+
+ [ Test case ]
+
  1. Uninstall indicator-power
  2. Open System Settings and click Power
  3. System Settings crashes
+
+ At 3 it shouldn't crash. If you have indicator-power installed, you
+ should see the option to configure whether it shows.
+
+ [ Regression potential ]
+
+ This adds some new code to check if the GSettings schema is installed, since
+ that's a reliable way to check for indicator-power's presence, and is what the
+ code modifies. It also makes the option appear in DEs other than Unity.
+
+ There's a chance that the GSettings schema-detection work could be wrong. It
+ also wouldn't hurt to check non-Unity environments such as a gnome-panel
+ session.
+
+ [ Original report ]

I see that unity recommends indicator-power; let's make it a depends
  instead.

[Bug 1242769] [NEW] gui don't show

2013-10-21 Thread DarkRedman
Public bug reported:

Hello, I'm on Ubuntu 13.10 using gnome-system-monitor 3.8.2.1-2

I try repeatedly to open gnome-system-monitor but unfortunately the gui
don't show up but the icon on Unity has an arrow next to it, so it's
opened but with no gui, if I open it in console I just got that output :

** (gnome-system-monitor:5802): WARNING **: SELinux was found but is not
enabled.

But I expect the gui to show up as usual.

I can repeat theses steps infinitely

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-21 Thread Romano Giannetti
@Sebastian:

It's quite difficult to untagle the various issue. At first glance I see
three basic problems:

- ability to change the keyboard layout switch to an arbitrary set of
modifiers, even without a normal key in the sequence, and make the
switch wrap-around (otherwise it's a pain for people with just two
layouts).

- independence of the results from the order of press/release of the
modifiers.

- possibility to remap Caps-Lock (which in my experience is one of the
most used switch-key by the people that commonly writes in multiple
languages like me) without it acting as a Caps-Lock, and reassign the
Caps-Lock function to another combination (say, shift lock).

Obviously, all of this should work in coherency with the indicator. I
will test it with the Ubuntu Gnome configuration, HTH.

[Bug 1242787] [NEW] External disks are not being auto-unmounted upon logout. As a consequence the next user needs to unmount/mount them back manually.

2013-10-21 Thread Dimitrios Piliouras
Public bug reported:

Suppose there are 2 users foo bar. foo logs in and the external usb
disk is auto-mounted under /media/foo/... . Now foo logs out and bar
logs in. The disk is still mounted under /media/foo/... and as a
consequence clicking on the unity-launcher for that disk icon launches
gedit instead of nautilus (or 'Files' - whatever you want to call it)
with an error message which is of course 'don't have permissions etc
etc'...I've had this problem since 12.10 if I'm not mistaken...

[Bug 1242420] Re: Memory leak in Gimp 2.8.6

This could be related to:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1199877?comments=all
and not a gimp bug at all...

I think its triggering a bug in unitu-panel-service where the actual
memory leak is.

Is there a way to profile and determine where the leak is coming from?

[Bug 1242823] [NEW] gui don't show

2013-10-21 Thread DarkRedman
Public bug reported:

Hello, I'm using Ubuntu 13.10 using rhythmbox 2.99.1-0ubuntu1

I opened rhythmbox and I expected the gui to show up normally.

Instead the gui didn't show up, but the icon had a and arrow on its left
in Unity. I pressed the play button of my keyboard to check how it goes
and the music start to play in rhythmbox. Then I opened the gnome-
terminal and typed rhythmbox and valited it didn't opened up another
instance but it actually showed the gui interface. So this is the only
way I found to fix it.

P.S : I report a similar problem today
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-system-
monitor/+bug/1242769 it seems theses kind of bugs seems specific to
