2013-10-28 Thread ssy
Confirm this bug too, I am using EN and TH (Thai) layout.

- This bug only affected libreoffice, removing libreoffice-{gnome,gtk} fix it
as suggested by comment above.
- Strangely, the Super+1 (switch to first application pinned to Dash) always
not work (emitting ๅ instead).

[Bug 1245398] [NEW] Cannot enter non-latin password characters in lock screen if layout set to english before lock

2013-10-28 Thread kolen
Public bug reported:

- Configure 2 keyboard layouts:
  - default: english
  - secondary: something else
- Set your password to something containing non-english characters
- Switch keyboard layout to English
- Lock screen
- Now you can't change keyboard layout on lock screen (hotkey does not work
(#1244548) and there is no clickable layout indicator), so you can't enter
password and unlock.

For some reason, clickable layout indicator appears on lock screen only
if non-english layout (or non-default layout?) is active before locking
screen.

[Bug 688700] Re: gvfsd-sftp several minutes consumes all available CPU resources , if try connect to unreachable SSH host.

2013-10-28 Thread Ville Ranki
Looks like i just encountered this issue. I have a sftp host which was
unaccessible for some time (ssh connection just hangs). The host started
working but I was wondering why the computer felt slow. This is the
reason (output from top):

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEMTIME+ COMMAND

 4742 vranki20 0 38208 3200 2720 S 49,8 0,0 15:37.13 gvfsd-sftp

 3783 vranki20 0 1117m 357m 45m S 5,3 4,6 6:22.19 firefox

Looks like gfvsd-sftp does not handle the error condition properly and
is stuck in busy loop.

Backtrace of the situation (doesn't look very helpful):

I'm not sure if the issue can be easily reproduced but there seems to be
a bug.

[Bug 1245188] Re: Unable to set keyboard indicator to show alternative layout in gnome-control-center keyboard in Saucy

2013-10-28 Thread Alberto Salvia Novella
Trying to configure input method from the indicator, I'm able to see the
control panel where to change from input layouts; so what really is
going on is the control panel icon to be hidden.

After been installed, it's the indicator-keyboard package the one
which should tell the control panel to show that icon.

[Bug 885324] Re: Completely replace lcms1 by lcms2 in Ubuntu

2013-10-28 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
It's best to use transition tracker:
http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/transitions/lcms2.html

It shows proper dependencies rounds rathers information based on the
archive state across both source and binary packages across all
architectures.

** Description changed:

Many packages in Ubuntu use the liblcms1 library (source package lcms).
This library is discontinued upstream and replaced by liblcms2. Due to
this, bugs in liblcms1 are not fixed any more upstream and important
improvements in color reproduction and safety against crashes are not
done. Therefore we should remove lcms1 and migrate all programs using it
  to lcms2.
+
+ Launchpad doesn't usually scale to track transitions like these. Please see a
tracker instead:

As for me, when layout switching is set to Ctrl-Shift, it affects Ctrl-
Shift-any-letter hotkeys. It wasn`t a problem in 13.04.

[Bug 1245189] [NEW] Lenovo Z370 multimedia keys do not work because force-release in hwdb.d is missing

2013-10-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Affects Ubuntu 13.10, udev 204-0ubuntu19:

The Lenovo Z370 notebook has capacitive keys for volume up, volume down and
mute. Touching these buttons does not generate a key release event and blocks
any further key presses.
I solved this issue by applying the attached patch to
/lib/udev/hwdb.d/60-keyboard.hwdb
After updating the hwdb and rebooting everything works fine.

[Bug 14392] Re: [network-admin] WEP key stored in world-readable /etc/network/interfaces

2013-10-28 Thread Jeremy Loffredo
I found that after doing a fresh install of 13.10 server, the wpa
passphrase for the network used during install was stored in plain text
in /etc/network/interfaces and by default the file has 644 permissions.

As stated by the original creator, this is a potential security risk.

[Bug 1245468] [NEW] libglib2.0-0 (2.38.0-1ubuntu1) causes eclipse/swt to crash

2013-10-28 Thread aanno
Public bug reported:

Newer Versions of libglib2.0-0 (2.38.0-1ubuntu1, saucy salamander, aka
13.10) causes eclipse/swt to crash.

This is bug is triggered from an 'official' eclipse install. I haven't
tried the eclipse that comes with ubuntu because it is not what a
professional java programmer needs.

Observed behaviour:
- Eclipse regulary crashes (see included VM dumps). The bug is normally trigger
by hitting a SWT Button (e.g. Search - File Search - Cancel Button).

Expected behaviour:
- libglib2.0-0 in saucy should work without any issue against a 'offical'
eclipse/swt.

[Bug 1245473] [NEW] Binding ctrl+shift, alt+shift, etc for switching keyboard layout makes shortcuts with ctrl+shift, etc not working in any program

2013-10-28 Thread kolen

[Bug 1239218] Re: [regression] Rhythmbox crashes with segfault when playing next track

Wow, this is pretty awful.
I'm using Ubuntu 13.10 (64bit) and Rhythmbox crashes every time it tries to go

[Bug 1245534] [NEW] gnome archive manager incorrect handling of jar repositories

2013-10-28 Thread moboticdes
Public bug reported:

I found out archive manager deals incorrectly with jar archives, by
incorrectly I found out these two bugs:

1. archive manager permits duplicate jar files while a jar with a duplicate
file returns the error: duplicate entry: some/class.class
2. if you open two jar files and copy a folder with many class files into the
other jar, some files won't get copied.

I realize the above is a little too generic however I have a simple way
to reproduce the error: download the jgroups jar library from
sourceforge (jgroups-3.3.0.Alpha2.jar), extract the jar file into a
folder, recompress the jar file into a new jar file
jgroups-3.3.0.Alpha2_new.jar now do a md5sum of the two files and they
will be different.

If you analyze the two archives file per file you'll see gnome archiver
will have missed some files and duplicated some others.

1) hmm ok; so how many of you still have this old bug
  2) and can any of you trigger it either on 13.10 or 12.04 ?
  3) Does it only happen with some thumb drives or does it happen to any drive

[Bug 1245627] [NEW] Opening a directory with thousands images kills nautilus

2013-10-28 Thread Volodya
Public bug reported:

This maybe related to Bug #243336 but i am not sure.

Opening a directory with thousands of image files locks Nautilus.
Pressing 'go back' or 'go one level up' does nothing until all the files are
actually loaded.

It would be just an inconvenience, but this also happens in the Open a
File Dialogue, making it impossible to (for example) upload anything
from that directory (i can switch the file browser to view the
directory, but can't chose to use a different open file dialog.

[Bug 1245575] Re: sometimes no controls in viewer

2013-10-28 Thread Jim Nelson
The bug report says you're using Shotwell 0.12.3 on Precise. Is that
correct? If so, you might consider subscribing to the Yorba PPA
(https://launchpad.net/~yorba/+archive/ppa). You can upgrade to 0.14.1
(unfortunately, the latest, 0.15, doesn't build on Precise).

I recall having some troubles with the toolbar in fullscreen mode being
fixed, so it's possible this will solve your problem.

[Bug 1238410] Re: Inconsistent cursor visibility with cursor plugin enabled

2013-10-28 Thread Doug McMahon
On the same machine with a new 14.04 install this does not occur though still
an issue with the 13.10 install
The 13.10 was installed on 10/04 so possibly a new 13.10 release install would
be fine, I've no inclination to try as 13.10 is relatively unimportant

[Bug 1096283] [NEW] Installing Nautilus in Xubuntu 12.10 pulls in Redundant Packages as Dependencies

2013-10-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug by Leo H (leo-h-hildebrandt):

Nautilus (nautilus 1:3.5.90.really.3.4.2-0ubuntu4.1) – when installed
under under Xubuntu 12.10 using Synaptic – directly or indirectly pulls
in Brasero, Zeitgeist and other application packages as dependencies.

― These additional packages such as Brasero and Zeitgeist are not
requested nor required, only the file browser/manager Nautilus itself
is.

― Further, these extra packages provide no essential or indispensable
functionality to Nautilus itself. Nautilus is complete in itself as a
file browser/manager. (The installation is on a series of some 100
netbooks which by their very design never have CD/DVD drives.)

― Zeitgeist, moreover, is a Stasi-like service — covertly and
comprehensively snooping on, logging and chanelling information on user
activities and events. As such, the presence of Zeitgeist is highly
undesirable on professional Linux systems designed to be transparent in
their behaviour, well-controlled and secure against information leakage.

Superfluous dependencies not only result in wasted space and resources
allocated to such undesired and undesirable packages.

But this bug also concerns a core design principle: Linux packages
should only be included as dependencies when they provide essential or
indispensable functionality to the package that is actually and
deliberately selected for installation.

These redundant dependencies should therefore be removed from the
Nautilus package.

[Bug 993440] Re: No suspend option for critical battery state in power settings UI

2013-10-28 Thread O Gopal
Unless I enable hibernation, when power drops critically low Ubuntu
offers only one option: sudden death. And I don't find that out until
after installation. (More precisely: I find out the first time I reach
the low-power threshold and Ubuntu suddenly just quits.)

And if, then, I'd want hibernation and haven't already made a swap
partition big enough to accommodate it, I now have to monkey with my
partitions.

Not friendly.

I'd like the Suspend option.

[Bug 1245575] Re: sometimes no controls in viewer

2013-10-28 Thread Jaufré Aligé
Thanks it looks ok ! I'll see If only ubuntu did like Android and
didn't freeze user apps, it would have beaten Winsh*t from a long
time... It's the only Win*** strength.

[Bug 1245745] [NEW] Loading larger folders with images takes a lot of time

2013-10-28 Thread florin
Public bug reported:

I have lots of pictures on my computer and they are taken on digital camera. It
makes them 1-6 MB each, and it is common to have 300-500 files in one folder.
But using Nautilus to navigate there is a huge error, until I can do anything
in that folder, it takes more than a minute. The file list does not appear
instantly, but files appear as they get a thumbnail.
See the attached screen recording, in my case it took more than 1 minute and 10
seconds to be able to do anything in that folder. It is a blocking bug.

And thumbs do not have a standard size, like a square, they are shows
upper/lower depending on the portrait/landscape type of picture.

[Bug 1245745] Re: Loading larger folders with images takes a lot of time

2013-10-28 Thread florin
And it does not cache thumbnails, it loads this slow every time. It is
extremely painfull to work with lots of images in Ubuntu because of
this. Please try to fix this, or at least offer a different file manager
(for instance Xubuntu's file manager is extremely fast and does not seem
to have anything less than what Nautilus offers).

[Bug 1245745] Re: Loading larger folders with images takes a lot of time

2013-10-28 Thread florin
I have already reported it on Gnome Filezilla:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=711044

PS: Please do not send me upstream to bomb them over there, even if it
is an upstream bug, it in Ubuntu which is unusable, normal users do not
and should not care it is Gnome over there which does not work as
expected.
