[Bug 1226962] Re: Hotkeys not functional in non-latin keyboard layout in 13.10

2013-11-03 Thread Andreas Tsourouflis
@suor, @ssy.
There is a workaround for the ugly icons too.
m17n uses the icons located in usr/share/m17n/icons/
In my case (Greek), it was el-kbd.png.
You can substitute the m17n-icon with an icon of your liking. I have tried to
use the default Unity icon located in
/usr/share/icons/ubuntu-mono-dark/status/22/ and it works even though the Unity
icon is in svg format
Namely, I have renamed indicator-keyboard-Gr.svg to el-kbd.png and placed
it in usr/share/m17n/icons/

I am not sure whether it works all the time. Please confirm

[Bug 1247564] [NEW] Initial window size slightly too small causing scaling+smoothing on image

2013-11-03 Thread Øyvind Stegard
Public bug reported:

When opening an image that is medium sized, but still much smaller
than screen resolution, eog sizes its window initially slightly too
small, causing scaling and consequently smoothing to be applied to the
image. This makes crisp images like figures, diagrams etc. look
unnecessarily blurred (and bad) at first sight. Increasing eog window
size a little fixes it so that the image is displayed 1:1 (pixel
perfect). Pressing Ctrl+0 also fixes the initial sizing of the image.

I see no way to turn off Best fit option by default in prefs. That
would probably fix it for smaller images, but is unpractical for larger
ones, where scaling is desireable.

Attached source image and screenshot of initial eog window (untouched)
shows the problem. My screen resolution is 1920x1200 and the source
image is 640x480, so it should not have been scaled by eog on first
display.

[Bug 1247572] [NEW] Nokia Lumia 620 (WP8) fails to mount reliably via gvfs-mtp in nautilus

2013-11-03 Thread Benjamin Tegge
Public bug reported:

I just got a Nokia Lumia 620 as a backup phone. I'd say I can mount my
Nexus 4 reliably with Ubuntu via nautilus using gvfs-mtp. Users with
Android devices like the Nexus 4 still get error messages on a regularly
basis of the device not being able to mount, but replugging the device
mostly fixes the issue.

However, the experience with the Lumia 620 is far worse (the desktop
sometimes freezes) and the workaround I found to get the device to work
very crude.

I was prompted with a apport-collector window when nautilus froze during
testing and send a report (this happend twice), but it didn't take me to
Launchpad to open a report. I can also seen no bug regarding that topic
that I am subscribed to.

The Lumia 620 itself was added to libmtp with this report:
http://sourceforge.net/p/libmtp/bugs/780/

## Steps to reproduce:

1. Reboot (or cold boot) computer and phone. Login to computers destop and
unlock the phone by entering PIN.
2. Plug the phone via USB into the computer. (Cable works with Nexus 4 or
another Android device.) The phone will give a signal that it is connected to
the computer.
3. Try to open the phone in Nautilus. My desktop either freezes (cold boot)
here or nautilus hangs (reboot).

3.a) If nautilus hangs: Open a terminal with Ctrl+Alt+T and kill nautilus with
xkill.
3.b) If your desktop froze: Go to a virtual terminal with Ctrl+Alt+F1.
3.c) If you just get an error message: Open a terminal with Ctrl+Alt+T and go
to step 4.

4. Execute 'mtp-detect' (from mtp-tools package) from terminal (either
via Dektop or virtual terminal). If you get one of the following
messages wait a few seconds and try again.

  $ mtp-detect
Unable to open ~/.mtpz-data for reading, MTPZ disabled.libmtp version: 1.1.6

  Listing raw device(s)
  Device 0 (VID=0421 and PID=0661) is a Nokia Nokia Lumia WP8.

  OK.

  $ mtp-detect

---

Repeat this until you get a long list of scrolling text that ends with
something similar to this:

  MTP-specific device properties:
 Friendly name: Windows Phone
 Synchronization partner: (NULL)
 Battery level 74 of 100 (74%)
  libmtp supported (playable) filetypes:

 BMP bitmap file
 MPEG-4 Part 14 Container Format (Audio+Video Emphasis)
MPEG-4 Part 14 Container Format (Audio Emphasis)
 DOC file
 XLS file
 PPT file
  OK.

---

5. Go to a virtual terminal and do 'sudo service lightdm restart'. Login
again, you hear the phone reconnecting to your computer and should now
be able to open your phone in nautilus seeing the phones internal
storage and the SD card (if there is) als sub devices.

6. Unplug the phone from the computer and start with step 2 if you want
to connect the phone again.

[Bug 1226962] Re: Hotkeys not functional in non-latin keyboard layout in 13.10

2013-11-03 Thread Norbert
I think that bug 1218322 (and bug 1226962; and other tagged with
keyboard-layout-switching-related and keyboard-layout-switching-hotkeys) can
be marked as fixed only if all hotkeys for layout switching that may be set
with current next-source-previous-source logic:
1. can be set ;
2. can be used in Unity session and in GNOME FlashBack session (with and
without effects) and in Ubuntu GNOME ;
3. do not brake other shortcuts (for example, Ctrl+Shift must allow to use
Ctrl+Shift+C/V in gnome-terminal, use Ctrl+Shift+arrows for text selecting,
etc.).

So we need testers that can verify that all possible hotkeys are working
normally. Test results may be written in Google Docs table
(https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ao5e713Ig9g_dEJrX2NRYlpLWWVzSWxsVXU4ck9HYVEusp=sharing).

[Bug 1241258] Re: wallpaper doesn't span across multiple monitors, white background shows instead

2013-11-03 Thread Zsolt Lauter
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1241252 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1241252

I have the same issue. When I switch between the screen of my laptop and
the external monitor, the background of the external one suddenly
changes to blank white sometimes (the background colour of the launcher
on the external screen doesn't change but the notable objects from the
wallpaper shown below the launcher aren't there so the launcher keeps
the colour but misses the background image). Right click on the blank
white screen shows the menu and icons are visible as well.

I think it's not a duplicate of bug #1241252: the top menu bar doesn't
change.

I'm not sure it matters but according to lshw, I has an nVidia GT218M
[NVS 3100M] and I use the binary 319.60 driver (nvidia-319-updates).

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-11-03 Thread myg
Hi all,

Even though the core combinations are possible to assign (ctrl + arl, ctrl +
shift, etc), it is however impossible to assign both SHIFT as a switcher. When
I'm trying to assign them by pressing two shifts at the same time, shift R
only appears on screen.
Can anybody suggest me on what have I to do to make SHIFT + SHIFT work?

2013-11-03 Thread Norbert
Hello, myg (nidinnidin) !
As you can read from my table - it is possible to set Shift+Shift only from
GNOME FlashBack session. You can install it by installing gnome-panel package
in Ubuntu 13.10, then logout and login to GNOME FlashBack session.
I hope this helps.

Add an email about Ubuntu One.
  - debian/patches/alarm-notify-nodisplay.patch: don't show the alarm
notifier in gnome-session-properties (add NoDisplay=true to the .desktop
file).
  - debian/evolution-common.gsettings-override: Set 'notify-with-tray' to
false to not use the notification area for calendar reminders.
  - debian/rules, debian/control: Disable bogofilter and texthighlight
support, since these packages are in universe. Swap evolution

[Bug 1247584] [NEW] [keymap] Since upgrade to Ubuntu 13.10, udev doesn't map middle mouse button.

2013-11-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On Ubuntu 13.04 I had the middle mouse button of my Logitech T400 mapped
correctly, but after upgrading to 13.10 the /lib/udev/kemap utility has
disappeared and now I can no longer assign the middle button to the
middle button function. This mouse has assigned by default the middle
button to the left_meta keyboard key (super key). That's very annoying
because I can't do middle clicking with this mouse. This mouse has two
middle buttons, in the trackpad that serves as middle wheel, but the
button that currently serves as middle click it's in a very
uncomfortable position, and the button with the left_meta functionality
is the one I'd like to use as middle button.

I tried modifying the file at /lib/udev/hwdb.d/60-keyboard.hwdb with
this rule:

keyboard:usb:v046DpC52B*
 KEYBOARD_KEY_700E3=middle

and also with

keyboard:usb:v046DpC52B*
 KEYBOARD_KEY_700E3=274

evtest returns the following results and codes:

BUTTON I WANT TO ASSIGN:
Event: time 1383485540.705610, type 4 (EV_MSC), code 4 (MSC_SCAN), value 700e3
Event: time 1383485540.705610, type 1 (EV_KEY), code 125 (KEY_LEFTMETA), value 1
Event: time 1383485540.705610, -- SYN_REPORT
Event: time 1383485540.809618, type 4 (EV_MSC), code 4 (MSC_SCAN), value 700e3
Event: time 1383485540.809618, type 1 (EV_KEY), code 125 (KEY_LEFTMETA), value 0
Event: time 1383485540.809618, -- SYN_REPORT

THE BUTTON IN UNCOMFORTABLE POSITION
Event: time 1383485765.956075, type 4 (EV_MSC), code 4 (MSC_SCAN), value 90003
Event: time 1383485765.956075, type 1 (EV_KEY), code 274 (BTN_MIDDLE), value 1
Event: time 1383485765.956075, -- SYN_REPORT
Event: time 1383485766.173978, type 4 (EV_MSC), code 4 (MSC_SCAN), value 90003
Event: time 1383485766.173978, type 1 (EV_KEY), code 274 (BTN_MIDDLE), value 0
Event: time 1383485766.173978, -- SYN_REPORT

So, I would like to assign the BTN_MIDDLE function to the 700e3
scancode, but it does not work. With the previous utility included in
Ubuntu I could do this, but now with this SystemD way I can't do the
assignment.

I have not rebooted, but I did rebuild the hwdb database with the
udevadm hwdb --update, and replugged the mouse.

[Bug 1241258] Re: wallpaper doesn't span across multiple monitors, white background shows instead

2013-11-03 Thread sam113101

I kind of found what was the bug for me. It happened (all three bugs)
whenever I was booting my computer while my ipod touch was plugged in.
If I unplug my ipod touch from my computer before booting, it doesn't
happen. I don't know why.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-11-03 Thread Mikhail V. Golubev
I have too many questions about this new Text Entry keyboard switcher
in Ubuntu 13.10

1. How to set several different combinations for one action (Switch to
next source)? I want use CapsLock and R_Ctrl + R_Shift and L_Alt +
Space. How I can do this now? New hotkeys selection method lets me set
only one hotkey combination per action.

2. When I set new hotkey combination for action Switch to next source and
press R_Ctrl+R_Shift how you can correctly determine what actualy I mean:
R_Ctrl+R_Shift or R_Ctrl+Any_Shift or Any_Ctrl+R_Shift or
Any_Ctrl+Any_Shift
Because it is different combinations.
It's impossible to determine it correctly with new hotkeys input method.

How to solve these two problems?
Please return checkboxes for keyboard language switching hotkeys (like in
Ubuntu 12.04) and I will be able to select manually one or more combinations
for action Switch to next source:
[v] L_Alt + Space
[ ] R_Alt + Sapce
[v] CapsLock
[ ] L_Ctrl + L_Shift
[ ] L_Ctrl + R_Shift
[ ] R_Ctrl + L_Shift
[v] R_Ctrl + R_Shift
[ ] Any_Ctrl + Any_Shift
[ ] L_Alt + L_Shift
[ ] L_Alt + R_Shift
[ ] R_Alt + L_Shift
[ ] R_Alt + R_Shift
[ ] Any_Alt + Any_Shift
[ ] L_Alt + R_Alt
[ ] L_Ctrl + R_Ctrl
[ ] L_Shift + R_Shift

3. When I set CapsLock for Switch to next source action it works fine in
system. But in screen lock menu (when I type my password to unlock the screen)
CapsLock cannot switch keyboard layout language, in this case it always works
like regular CapsLock (upper-case letters).
Other hotkey combinations also doesn't work for keyboard language switch in
lock screen window.

4. Keyboard language indicator in the top-right side of unity panel
sometimes doesn't change indication when keyboard language switches
after pressing hotkeys.

5. Keyboard language indicator in lock screen window sometimes doesn't
appear.

Who is developer of this new Text Entry switcher in Ubuntu 13.10?
I suppose he is not a multilingual person and he never use multilingual
keyboard switching in real life. Because new realization of this feature in
Ubuntu is terrible. Stupid bugs in final release it's ridiculous.

[Bug 1247650] [NEW] Bluetooth Mouse losing connection after suspend

2013-11-03 Thread Henning Sprang
Public bug reported:

When Using a Microsoft Sculpt mouse, after waking up the system from
suspend, I'd expect the mouse to continue to be working as before the
suspend.

Instead, the mouse is displayed as connected in bluetooth settings,
but the system doesn't get it's commands, nothing happens when trying to
use the mouse.

Reconnecting (NOT repairing!) - setting the connection off, and on again
- makes the mouse work again.

The problem seems to be slightly similar to the ones mentioned in
#1158462 and #1094744

just the difference for me is that there is no repairing necessary, and
the device is displayed as being connected, but not working, and I can
reconnect it to get it working again.

because of this, and as the bugs above are said to be fixed, I open a
new issue hereby.

[Bug 1247221] [NEW] Nautilus doesn't remember setting for showing hidden files correctly

2013-11-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Description:Ubuntu 13.10
Release:13.10
nautilus: 1:3.8.2-0ubuntu2

The default setting of not showing hidden files can be changed with
strg+h. After all windows are closed nautilus remembers to show hidden
files again when opening a new window. If strg+h is pressed again to
hide hidden files nautilus does so but still keeps showing hidden files
in new windows. When changed via gui the setting is remembered
correctly.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-11-03 Thread Kom-Si
+1, Mikhail V. Golubev.
I also wonder who is in charge nowadays of such crucial areas as language
support in Ubuntu (GNOME, Linux in general). Just for the heck of it, for I
don't think these people are capable of remedying what they've destroyed.
Simply because they know nothing of what they're doing. The whole
design/implementation is so un-Linux it makes me puke.
Judging by this thread it also seems nobody cares anymore - they're all so
complacent about their half-baked patches and crutches that barely work...

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-11-03 Thread Norbert
@Mikhail V. Golubev (mvgolubev)  @Kom-Si (val.komissarov)

в Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (!) и люди, пользующиеся в Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

Google Docs
(https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ao5e713Ig9g_dEJrX2NRYlpLWWVzSWxsVXU4ck9HYVEusp=sharing).

I'm sorry for Russian language comment, наболело.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-11-03 Thread Kom-Si
@Norbert (nrbrtx), ну хорошо, Canonical is not the be blamed (at least not for
the *whole* mess). But what Canonical DOES to address the problem? IMO very
little ATM. Do they have Russian developers on board?
Latin-based developers might just not realize how painful the whole
language-switching situation is. They might lack the experience required,
because они на эти грабли ещё не наступали... =/

[Bug 1247668] [NEW] NumLock turned off on layout switch

2013-11-03 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Public bug reported:

Extracting from bug 1218322, confirmed there by multiple users:

When switching the keyboard layout using a shortcut (such as Alt+Shift),
NumLock functionality is (mostly) turned off. More precisely: it goes
into an inconsistent state where pressing numpad 5 inserts the digit 5,
but the other numpad keys move the cursor. Pressing the NumLock key
turns it off completely (pressing numpad 5 no longer does anything), and
pressing once again turns it on.

This means that if someone prefers to have the NumLock functionality
switched on all the time, they have to press the NumLock key twice after
each layout change. I find this a huge usability problem.

(I don't have a LED, so I cannot tell how that one is lit.)

The bug is not present when changing the layout via the indicator
applet.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-11-03 Thread Egmont Koblinger
** Description changed:

A PPA which should provide some relief for this issue is available at
  https://launchpad.net/~attente/+archive/1218322. There still remain
issues regarding keyboard shortcuts though. To install:

  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:attente/1218322
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get upgrade

  === gnome-control-center ===

Impact: the UI to change the layout switching keys doesn't work

  Test case:
  - open gnome-control-center's text input settings
  - click on the next layout key entry
  - try entering a key combinaison (e.g ctrl-space)
  - the UI should reflect the new keys

Regression potential: that UI was not working before, it should only be
an improvement (some key combos are not working as expected, that's
another issue and shouldn't be mixed with this one)

  === gnome-settings-daemon ===

Impact: attempting to change keyboard layouts using only modifier keys
  doesn't work

  Test case:
  - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry
settings
  - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source
['PrimaryShift_L']
  - press and release ctrl+left shift
  - the current input source should change

Regression potential: The input switching shortcut might capture other
non-modifier shortcuts, but users will need to consider this when
choosing their switching shortcut anyways. For users this bug affects,
this represents a working solution for a critical bug.

[Bug 1247668] Re: NumLock turned off on layout switch

2013-11-03 Thread Egmont Koblinger
It seems the bug lies somewhere deeper under, probably in xorg.

Turn on NumLock. Switch layout either using the indicator, or by
executing setxkbmap us or something alike. Try the numpad keys: they
work as expected (they insert digits). Press and release any of the
modifier keys. Try the numpad keys again: they are in this inconsistent
state where 5 is a digits, the rest are cursor keys.

So, a layout switch followed by a modifier press/release leads to this
faulty state.

As a special case, if a layout switch is performed by a shortcut key,
the modifier press/release happens as part of this key sequence, so
NumLock becomes inconsistent immediately.

According to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LTS Ubuntu 12.04 should receive bug
fixes until 2017.

Thus there should be an update to a newer version of this package which
hopefully doesn't have this bug.

[Bug 129219]

2013-11-03 Thread Nelson Benitez
(In reply to Karl Tomlinson (:karlt) from comment #17)
 Comment on attachment 813885
 0001-Bug-417952-Open-Containing-Folder-doesn-t-highlight-.patch

Thank you for working out how to do this, Nelson. This looks like the right
 approach.

You're welcome!, and sorry for getting back to you after a couple weeks but
I've been busy lately with only some spare time on weekends.

Putting this in the nsGIOService is fine, even though the current
implementation doesn't use GIO, because GIO's GDBus will be the preferred
 DBus
library once Mozilla is no longer supporting older systems, and the method is
similar to other existing methods on nsGIOService.

The interface can be simplified to just one additional method on
 nsIGIOService
that returns NS_ERROR_NOT_AVAILABLE or similar when FileManager1 is not
 available.

Done.

ListActivatableNames doesn't sound like what we want here. I assume that is
 looking for /usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.freedesktop.FileManager1.service,
but the interface may be provided by a non activatable application such as a
daemon in the desktop environment. That is in fact the appropriate way to
support the interface because it means that different applications can be
selected by the user [1]. What Nautilus does [2][3] is unfortunate because
 it
means that people that don't want Nautilus used to reveal a file will have to
uninstall nautilus from the system, removing the option of other users using
 Nautilus.

Yes you're right, although file managers are a somewhat special case of a
program
very attached to its desktop environment, but they should still play well with
other file managers. Thanks for the links.

The simplest approach would be to use the synchronous dbus_g_proxy_call() so
that we know whether the call succeeds. Given this particular use of DBus
where the user is wanting to open a new application, or at least a new
 window,
which is going to take time, the additional round trip time via the DBus
daemon is not going to be major.

Done, using dbus_g_proxy_call() now.

Perhaps the call could set a flag if it fails, in order to save checking the
DBus call each time for systems without FileManager1, or perhaps there is a

Done.

way to register for notifications when the interface becomes available, but
that may be more trouble than it is worth. Similarly I imagine there is a
notification when the interface is no longer available (the destroy signal
maybe?) so the call would need only be synchronous the first time, but that
can be a future optimization when necessary.

I left this out of the patch to keep it simple, but as you said it can be added
in a future update.

Gecko file style is to use spaces for indentation, with no tabs.

 Call dbus_connection_set_exit_on_disconnect(dbusConnection, false) in case
this is the first use of the connection.

Done.

 +  char *uris[2] = { (char*)PromiseFlatCString(uri).get(), NULL };

The PromiseFlatCString usage is not good because the pointer is used after
 the
 PromiseFlatCString is destroyed.
I expect uri.get() can be used here.

Please use const_cast instead of (char*), or, perhaps better, make this
 const char *uris[2].

Done.

(In reply to Nelson Benítez León from comment #12)
   some file managers when
passed a full uri would try to 'run' the file (as was thunar in xfce or
  konqueror in kde)

I was surprised by that behavior too. I think there is a KDE bug report on
 that.

[Bug 1247683] [NEW] Gnome-screensaver does not lock if turn screen off is disabled

2013-11-03 Thread Tony
Public bug reported:

The Screensaver Lock settings dialog for the gnome screensaver is
misleading and is a security risk.

It allows you to specify whether or not the screen will be turned off
after a certain time, and it allows you to specify whether or not the
session will lock (and require a password) after a certain time. The
dialog presents these as indpeendent options, but in reality, the lock
will NEVER operate unless you also enable Turn screen off

The Lock option should be grayed out/disabled if Turn screen off is
not enabled.

Much better would be to change the code so that the two functions are
independent of each other. Surely it should be possible to lock the
session after a set time even if you don't have the screen set to turn
off.

As it stands, users can be fooled into thinking that their session will
lock after a set time when in reality that will not happen unless they
have also enabled Turn screen off.

In addition, at present the Lock options for 30 secs, 1 minute, etc
actually represent the time delay AFTER the screen is turned off. So for
example if you set Turn screen off to 5 minutes and Lock to 2
minutes, the session will lock after 5+2 = 7 minutes.
