[Bug 124440] Re: [enhancement] Ubuntu needs a way to set mouse scrolling speed

2013-11-25 Thread Phillip Pether
I would really love it to be able to have mouse config adjustment
options for the mouse scroll by pixel instead of it jumping per line.
It's bit annoying with it jumping 3-4 lines at a time or even half a
page. most users, especially if they've come from another OS such as
Windows or Mac OSX would hate not being able to adjust the scroll by
pixel.

Mouse Scroll per Pixel [ 2 ]

or to any other user defined number of pixels they wish to set their
scrolling rate to. I find it rather disappointing that Ubuntu lacks this
option to customize your own mouse to how you want it.

I also see this behaviour when running inside a VMWare virtual machine with

When the guest display is resized (which seems to occur just after the desktop

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

2013-11-25 Thread Vladimir Rutsky
I heard about problems described in this bug report in Ubuntu 13.10, but
when I updated from Ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10 I did't noticed any issues
with setting custom layout switching shortcut (alt+shift or ctrl+shift)
in System Settings - Text Enty, so I can confirm that it already fixed
in gnome-control-settings.

[Bug 1235625] Re: fix legacy keygrabber for gnome-ish sessions

2013-11-25 Thread Iain Lane
** Also affects: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu Saucy)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Description changed:

+ [ Description ]
+
+ In Saucy, media keys in gnome-ish (using gnome-settings-daemon) sessions
+ only work when gnome-panel or Unity are in use, as the code path checks
+ for their names on the bus. They ought to work for all sessions.
+
+ [ Fix ]
+
+ Change the logic so that the keygrabber is started all the time except
+ under Shell sessions.
+
+ [ QA ]
+
+ In a session that runs gnome-settings-daemon but neither panel nor shell
+ (xfce or Openbox? or a custom xmonad), check that media keys now work.
+
+ [ Regression potential ]
+
+ Changes activation criteria for the legacy keygrabber. Check it still
+ works in Unity, panel and that the new method works under shell.
+
+ [ Original report ]
+
The previous patch to fix the legacy keygrabber was Unity specific and
breaks on gnome-ish sessions that require it, instead we should load the
legacy keygrabber for any session that is not gnome-shell

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-11-25 Thread William Hua
The underlying issue (with the PPA) might be that the hud shortcut is
actually set to Alt by default, which is eating the Alt_R modifier.
You'll probably have to do:

gsettings set org.compiz.integrated show-hud ['Alt_L']

Then Alt_R should work for modifier switching...

[Bug 966132] Re: Rhythmbox doesn't (always) play when started from indicator

2013-11-25 Thread TomasHnyk
This is similar from the dash (rhythmbox open - dash plays a file,
otherwise it just opens rhythmbox). It seems rhythmbox-client is called
and it spawns rhythmbox but it does not wait enough to pass the file to
be played to the freshly started Rhythmbox. See bug 1201016 for details.

Re: [Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-11-25 Thread Kelley Castleberry
I am completely locked out of typing anything on my laptop Dell D620 4gb
ram 1.66ghz dual core intel processor 500 gb hitachi 7200 rpm hd. I am at
a point to where I think I need to pull my docs/music to another partition
and reformat the GNOME partition. What is most frustrating about this is I
just got my system set up perfect and of course this happens to be betta
and then I get this. Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

It changes the keyboard notifier in the panel, however I still type

 I run ubuntu 13.10 on a Thinkpad T500, I use gnome shell.
I also tried to upgrade my gnome to 3.10, however the problem remained
after the upgrade as well, so I reverted these changes and went back to the

Do you have any idea what else should I try to get back for the long-

The old PPA, ppa:attente/1218322 is superceded by the following one. You
can remove the old repository using ppa-purge.
   ***

A PPA which should provide some relief for this issue is available at
   https://launchpad.net/~attente/+archive/modifier-only-input-switch. To
   install:

   sudo add-apt-repository ppa:attente/modifier-only-input-switch
   sudo apt-get update
   sudo apt-get upgrade
   (log out, log in)

If the packages improve the situation for you, you can pin them using:

   sudo apt-mark hold compiz
   sudo apt-mark hold gnome-settings-daemon
   sudo apt-mark hold unity

If the packages don't work for you, you can purge them using:

   sudo ppa-purge ppa:attente/modifier-only-input-switch

   === compiz ===

Impact: modifier-only key bindings need to be independent of key-press
order, there's no support for double tapping two modifier keys of the
   same type

   Test case:
   - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text
 entry settings
   - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift:
 gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source
 ['PrimaryShift_L']
   - holding left shift, press and release ctrl
   - the current input source should change

Regression potential: possible, but highly unlikely, that some key
bindings may be triggered due to the removal of some code that would
normally prevent a possible tap from occurring.

   === unity ===

Impact: gnome-settings-daemon eats modifier-only shortcuts preventing
them from propagating down to applications

   Test case:
   - open gnome-control-center's text input settings
   - set the next input source key binding to ctrl+left shift
   - open gnome-terminal
   - press ctrl+shift+t
   - gnome-terminal should open a new tab

Regression potential: the additional input switch key bindings could
collide with other functionality such as opening the dash or hud

   === gnome-control-center ===

Impact: the UI to change the layout switching keys doesn't work

   Test case:

[Bug 1254789] [NEW] File-roller 3.10.1 - double clicking on column separator makes cpu go high, makes x unresponsive for a while

2013-11-25 Thread Christian Uceda
Public bug reported:

On the latest file-roller in Ubuntu 13.10 (I'm using Xubuntu) if you
open a zip file that contains a large number of files (30.000+), and
double click on the column separators (IE: Name) it makes X
unresponsive, the CPU jumps to 99% and once the program is done who
knows what the column is resized to 1px making it dissapear.

This is a bit disconcerting for end users as their computer becomes
unresponsive, and if they look elsewhere their column has disappeared.

If the end user closes File-roller then the size of the columns is saved
(who knows why someone thought this was a good idea is a question for
another day) so when they open another zip file the column that was
resized to 1px appears missing.

This problem affects any column.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-11-25 Thread Vladimir Rutsky
William,

I installed all packages from PPA mentioned in description (ppa:attente
/modifier-only-input-switch). Setting alt+shift and ctrl+shift works
as before, and also I'm able to set right alt (Alt R) as layout
switching shortcut (with gsettings set org.compiz.integrated show-hud
['Alt_L'])

But now layout switching is somehow slow: after pressing Alt R or
ctrl+shift I'm able to enter 3-4 characters in old layout before
layout actually switches. This is major issue for fast text entering
using two layouts.

[Bug 805154] Re: gdm-simple-slave crashed with SIGSEGV in _nss_compat_getpwnam_r()

2013-11-25 Thread Ryan Tandy
The change from 3.0.4-0ubuntu16 is trivial: two lines plus a bit of
quilt noise. For me at least the crash is easily reproduced by
activating automatic login, and the patch fixes it. Would be lovely to
have this uploaded if possible. Thanks for considering.

[Bug 1241101] Re: Java crash in libglib-2.0 after upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1234253 is a similar issue, but none of
the workarounds provided here work. The only workaround that does work
in that case is to lower the CPU affinity to 1.

[Bug 805154] Re: gdm-simple-slave crashed with SIGSEGV in _nss_compat_getpwnam_r()

2013-11-25 Thread Ryan Tandy
** Description changed:

+ SRU justification:
+
+ [Impact]
+
+ * With automatic login enabled in /etc/gdm/custom.conf, gdm crashes
+ instead of logging in, and doesn't respawn, dropping to a text console
+ instead.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * install gdm and choose it as the default display manager at the
+ debconf prompt
+
+ * create /etc/gdm/custom.conf with contents:
+
+ [daemon]
+ AutomaticLoginEnable=true
+ AutomaticLogin=some-username
+
+ (where some-username is a user on the system)
+
+ * Reboot (or stop the previous display manager and start gdm)
+
+ * In gdm in precise-updates, instead of logging in, gdm crashes, the
+ system drops to a text console, and a gdm-simple-slave segfault is
+ recorded in dmesg.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * Minimal. The change consists only of adding a missing NULL parameter
+ check.

[Bug 1254946] [NEW] unable to import p12 files in 64bit 12.04 + 13.04

2013-11-25 Thread Alexander Mohr
Public bug reported:

on a fresh install of 64bit 12.04 or 13.04, if you attempt importing a password
protected p12 through the command line as such:
gnome-keyring import ~/Desktop/client.p12

file you will either get the error:

gnome-keyring: couldn't find any place to import files

or on 12.04 a bunch of warnings about unable to load module info.

Furthermore, if you go to seahorse, and attempt to add a Private key
you'll note the Stored at is blank and it won't let you create a new
private key.

Also in seahorse on 13.04, if you do
This used to work in 10.04.

It appears there's a work-around by first unlocking the Gnome2 Key
Storage, and then doing File-Import from seahorse in 13.04 and
importing to this key storage area.

logged in, but then unlocks it), and then doing File-Import from
seahorse and importing to the Gnome2 key storage area.
+
+ This trick doesn't work in 12.04 because if you try to import the p12 or
+ they key it says its an invalid format :(
