[Bug 1269838] Re: gnome-session.log takes 8 GB in a few hours

2014-01-17 Thread James Hunt
There is an upstart logrotate job that runs automatically soon after
session start, however, it does not (yet) run periodically to handle
rogue jobs such as gnome-session. You can however run the job yourself
simply enough as a non-root user:

$ start logrotate

Please attach a few lines of the output from your gnome-session log.

[Bug 773896] Re: Evolution does not show persistent alarms in Unity

2014-01-17 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: evolution

In 10.10 and before, Evolution alarms would appear in the system tray. With
Unity, there is no persistent trace of alarms associated with calendar events
after the notification bubble has disappeared.
- I think this is a regression: I trusted this function to remind me of
important appointments, but unless I am in front of my screen at the
appropriate moment (when the notification bubble appears) I am not made aware
of these appointments.
-
- The workaround is to whitelist evolution-alarm-notify. But presumably there
needs to be a solution that integrates better with Unity, perhaps a message in
the message indicator and the icon turning blue, or the date-time glowing blue
and appointment flashing under the date-time menu?

[Bug 1270197] [NEW] Session takes a long time to load

2014-01-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Not sure if this is on unity-greeter (might be on nautilus or gnome-
session...).

Since saucy, after I log in the background stays fixed on the one from
the greeter (with the Ubuntu 13.10 banner on the bottom). It takes about
5 seconds or more for my custom background to be drawn and Unity to be
displayed.

This is particularly funny under gnome-session-flashback, since the
panels load quite fast (I can launch applications and stuff), but the
indicators and background take a really long time to load. I can see
indicator-keyboard and indicator-messages, but not the others. I cannot
right click on the desktop and Startup Applications haven't kicked in.

With:
Unity - The Launcher and Panel and background take a while to load, when they
it's at the same time.

Flashback metacity - The panels load quickly and I can launch
applications, but the background, most indicators and Startup
Applications take a considerable time to load. (Maybe gnome-session or
nautilus?)

Flashback compiz - Same as above but the panel needs little more time
to load.

The update is in Ubuntu (trusty), I'm not sure it's an issue important
enough to justify a stable update to saucy though.

If you think it's really worth a stavle update, feel free to read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates and update the bugs with
the rational, etc informations required for those updates

Can you explain what it is you were trying to do? The steps that you
took to cause this error? i.e. I checked the install box next to
shotwell, and then pressed the apply button.

And by the gui software tool do you mean synaptic or the software

2014-01-17 Thread Greg Bowler
As far as I know, shotwell wasn't running. I had been coding in Sublime
Text 3, there were a few SSH connection in terminal windows, Google
Chrome was open, and MySQL workbench was open.

Ubuntu's Software Updater opened as it does every week, and I set it
updating while I went and got a cup of tea. I used extra strong tea bags
as it had been a tough day of bug squishing my own code.

Once the update had completed, I had a warning telling me the update
hadn't updated some packages, then as usual I clicked the 'report
problem' button, which usually makes the dialogue box disappear
completely (I assume by submitting the report in the background), but
this time I was directed to Launchpad's website, where I submitted this
extra info.

Shotwell is still not open, but I just tried opening it and it works
fine.

2014-01-17 Thread Jim Nelson
In Saucy, Ubuntu split Shotwell up into a couple of packages -- shotwell
and shotwell-common. I'm not sure why they did that, but the .ui files
are in shotwell-common.

However, in Yorba's PPA, we simply have one package: shotwell, which
contains the .ui files. It may be that when you switch to or from our
PPA, you need to uninstall shotwell (and shotwell-common) before re-
installing from the other PPA. However, no one has reported this
problem so far, so I don't know why you'd be the first to see it.

On a side note, can you tell me what issue(s) you had with Geary, and
what version you were running?

I'm not actually sure if this is a shotwell issue or a software center
issue (or something else entirely). I'd suggest removing shotwell-
common and shotwell and then installing shotwell. But I'd wait a little
and give someone else a chance to chime in.

[Bug 1269981] Re: new upstream release 3.10

2014-01-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gdm - 3.10.0.1-0ubuntu1

---
gdm (3.10.0.1-0ubuntu1) trusty; urgency=medium

  * New Upstream Release (LP: #1269981)
  * debian/rules:
- remove obsolete --with-incomplete-locales configure option
- enable parallel builds
  * debian/patches/08_frequent-users_greeter.patch: Dropped, gnome-shell
generates
the greeter list by directly querying accountsservice, so this patch now
achieves nothing
  * debian/control.in: Drop depends on dbus-glib, pango, fontconfig, upower, nss
  * debian/patches/93_private_lib.patch: Refreshed
  * Move schema file to libgdm
- gnome-shell requires direct access to this now.
  * Merge some changes from Debian
- debian/rules:
  + Also drop gdm-simple-greeter.desktop, simple-greeter is
definitely gone
  + List non-installed files
  + Append --libdir=\$${prefix}/lib/$(DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH) to
DEB_CONFIGURE_EXTRA_FLAGS
- debian/control.in:
+ Drop Depends on policykit-1-gnome, with the gdm-fallback session gone,
this dependency is no longer required.
+ Make build depend on debhelper (= 8.1.3) and cdbs (= 0.4.93~) and
add Pre-Depends: ${misc:Pre-Depends} to shared libs packages to
support Multi-Arch
  + Split libgdm adding a libgdm-dev package
+ Rename libgdm to libgdm1 and update the package description
+ Add a gir1.2-gdm3 package for GObject introspection data
- debian/patches:
+ Drop 93_private_lib.patch. Don't install the shared library
in a private directory.
- debian/gdm.lintian-overrides:
  + Drop gdm: binary-or-shlib-defines-rpath
usr/lib/gdm/gdm-simple-chooser /usr/lib/gdm since the gdm libraries
are not private anymore.
- debian/gdm.dirs: Drop usr/share/gdm/greeter-settings/, not needed anymore
  since 3.4.1-1
- debian/gdm.install: Install the files debian overrides as the last ones
so we don't accidentally include upstream versions.
- Apply patch from Paul Wise to avoid userdel error messages
from being used as input for debconf if gdm3 is purged while
processes are still running as Debian-gdm (Closes: #657751)
  [ Rico Tzschichholz ]
  * debian/rules:
- Drop authdir references

[Bug 1269651] Re: UI for adding sametime account is empty

2014-01-17 Thread Joel Stanley
The cause of this was a bad libsametime package. If you encounter this
bug, make sure you have installed a valid libsametime from the Ubuntu
repository.
