[Bug 1294970] Re: nautilus is consuming 70% of cpu time with only home dir opened

2014-03-20 Thread i30817
the home dir has a single png file, the firefox wallpaper
this file:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzxkBmaf1EiWaFVQZFoxaDdVMVU/edit?usp=sharing

Also, gnome is set to let nautilus 'manage' the desktop so it's not
exactly true that is the only nautilus opened dir. On the desktop there
are some shortcuts from wine games and a directory with a game too.

[Bug 1294970] Re: nautilus is consuming 70% of cpu time with only home dir opened

2014-03-20 Thread i30817
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1246780 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1246780

This was a duplicate, and the workaround indicated on the upstream report
solved it for me:
sudo chmod -R 777 /home/$USERNAME/.cache/thumbnails/

Of course, this is only a workaround. There are two bugs, that nautlius
is not being able to write or read from that dir for some reason, and
that it never gives up doing that and so consumes many resources.

** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1246780
   Nautilus high CPU utilization when attempts to load pic thumbnails (and
fails to load those previews)

This can be set from gnome-tweak-tool and that is not exactly a foreign
program!

I don't believe upstream have any plans to implement this in the gnome-
control-center background panel either.

[Bug 1295026] [NEW] Brasero hangs after burning an ISO file (started from Nautilus)

2014-03-20 Thread Milos Sramek
Public bug reported:

Hi,

If I burn a DVD iso file by starting the process from Nautilus (right
click - Open with - brasero), the brasero process remains hanging in the
memory after burning the file. The DVD is burned corerctly. As the
consequence, I cannot open brasero again - I have to kill the brasero
process manually. If brasero is started from dash, it finishes normally.

System: Ubuntu 13.10, 64 bit
brasero: 3.8.0-1ubuntu3

I've observed the same in Mint Mate 16.

When hanging, strace -p shows:

[Bug 1295049] [NEW] Videos are showing in Totem but not in some applications

2014-03-20 Thread François Tissandier
Public bug reported:

I really don't know where to report this bug ! :)

I have installed Trusty in a virtual machine on my laptop.
I'm trying to edit subtitles on a video. The video is played without any
problem in Totem.
However in the two apps that I tried to edit the subtitles, I only have the
sound. I have tried to transcode the video to a totally different codec, and
it's the same.

Launching the subtitle editors in a terminal, I see this error :

** Message: don't know how to handle video/mpeg, mpegversion=(int)4,
parsed=(boolean)true, systemstream=(boolean)false
Got video info: width=0, height=0, aspect_Ratio=0, frame_rate=0,
has_audio=True, has_video=False
Got video duration: 00:09:44.916

One of the application tells me that a codec is missing. Which I find
weird since totem is playing them fine, and the codecs are nothing
exotic (h264  MPEG4)

Same videos same apps are working fine with Saucy.

[Bug 1207538] [NEW] misrendering of SVG files (clipping paths)

2014-03-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Generating an SVG file using matplotlib,

from pylab import *

x = linspace(0,2,101)
plot(x,x)
xlim(0,1)
savefig('test.svg')

gives the SVG file attached. This file views fine in Inkscape, Firefox,
Chromium. However in Ristretto the blue line is not clipped properly and
extends past the right side of the plot. The file's XML is pretty
simple, with just one clip rectangle.

It seems there are a few image viewers with this problem including
Ristretto but also gpicview, comix, gthumb. I'm not sure why they all
share this issue (same library?). I'll submit the bug report here in
hopes it gets forwarded upstream to the right place.

[Bug 1295220] [NEW] Images can't be viewed system-wide after libgtk3 update

2014-03-20 Thread Alex
Public bug reported:

After recent upgrade of several packages, I got issues with image
viewing, and these issues are system wide. Namely, many of system images
(unity, gnome, indicators etc.) can't be loaded and a default dummy
image is shown instead. No desktop background, no Unity icons, no way
to open an image using standard image viewer.

Here is the update that ruined the system (/var/log/apt/history.log):

2014-03-20 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1295330] [NEW] safely remove option not available when external hard disk is mouted before powering on device

2014-03-20 Thread Jobin Raju George
Public bug reported:

I have a 1TB external hard-disk which I usually keep attached to my
laptop. It is noticed that when if I want to remove my external hard-
disk safely from the laptop I find the Safely remove option only if I
had not attached it before booting up.

lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu Trusty Tahr (development branch)
Release:14.04
Codename:   trusty

apt-cache policy nautilus
nautilus:
  Installed: 1:3.10.1-0ubuntu8
  Candidate: 1:3.10.1-0ubuntu8
  Version table:
 *** 1:3.10.1-0ubuntu8 0
500 http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

What did I expect to happen?
Whenever I attach an external hard-disk to my laptop, the option to Safely
Remove Drive should always be present.

What actually happened?
1) If I mounted the external hard-disk before I powered on my laptop, the
option to Safely Remove Device is not present.

2) If I mounted the external hard-disk after logging into my account,
the option to Safely Remove Device is present.

[Bug 1289024] Re: Rhythmbox controls missing from indicator-sound

2014-03-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package rhythmbox - 3.0.1-1ubuntu16

---
rhythmbox (3.0.1-1ubuntu16) trusty; urgency=medium

  * debian/control.in:
- restore the recommends on rhythmbox-plugins, that was dropped by
  error when merging on Debian. Without those integration to the sound
  indicator is not working (that needs the mpris plugin to be loaded)
  (lp: #1289024)
  * debian/patches/git_error_handling.patch:
- backport a segfault fix in error handling code
  * debian/patches/git_gsettings_warning.patch:
- backport fixes for gsettings warnings
  * debian/patches/git_could_fix_segfault.patch:
- backport potential fix for another sefault issue

[Bug 869793] Re: Nautilus is very slow when opening folders with many files

2014-03-20 Thread Richard Bruce Baxter
Nautilus has been slow for 13 years. If Linux file browser speed can't
improve with Moore's law then it is time to drop the fancy mime based
open every file and read its header feature in my opinion. People
should not be waiting 500ms for their file browser to display 10 files
in 2014, all for the sake of random text files that don't have an
extension and should probably be opened with a text editor anyway. In my
opinion the Nautilus UI has degraded over time, and has never met the
usability standards introduced by windows explorer 95/98 (not that
Windows has kept them). It seems like the trend in application/OS user
interface development has gone towards zero-customisability; attempting
to make one UI fit the needs of both first time and power user, an
impossible task. Here are some general suggestions to improve Nautilus
efficiency;

- instantaneous folder browsing (options to disable mime extension reading and
any other header operations which make Nautilus slow)
- the ability to add/remove standard interface buttons (eg up folder, home
folder)
- the ability to select a real location bar (not a bubble bar)
- the ability to remove all clutter left and right of the address bar (these
should be located in the View menu)
- the ability to position the address bar on its own row (the user needs to be
able to see the full path at all times, even when operating with multiple
unmaximised file manager windows)
- the ability to show the full path in the title bar (such that Nautilus
windows containing a folder of the same name can be distinguished in the window
manager taskbar)
- the ability to open a new Window (Ctrl-N) at the same location
- the ability to disable the sidebar without using dconf-editor
- the ability to add keyboard shortcuts for missing functions (eg Ctrl-G for go
button operations; note in order to press Enter after a paste operation the
user must move their right hand off the mouse)
- the ability to add keyboard shortcuts for existing functions, without
modifying .config/nautilus/accels (eg BackSpace for ShellActions/Up)
- the ability to view full dates/times
- the ability to select an arbitrary application to open a txt file with
- the ability to create a new document (without modifying Templates)
- the ability to navigate the UI using the keyboard (given there is no longer a
menu bar)
- the ability to stop the search bar from popping up every time the user
presses a character on the keyboard
- the ability to close the search bar using the mouse (without knowing that you
have to press Ctrl-f)
