Ok, I first did a quick test here and my BT headset paired, showed up in sound settings, worked as usual, and profile was selectable. So at least the problem is not *that* generic. Anyway, module-bluetooth-discover is loaded from /etc/pulse/default.pa, which is run every time pulseaudio starts. If it did not load, hopefully there is some related error in syslog. So if you can verify that module-bluetooth-discover is indeed *not* loaded (i e does not show up in pactl list modules), hopefully there should be an error message in syslog indicating why it did not start. So, could you do a: grep pulseaudio.*bluetooth /var/log/syslog ...to see if you find anything that looks suspicious? Like you David, my BT headset is paired and connecting when switched on. The profile is also showing up in Sound Settings. In my case though, the profile is not being autoselected in Sound Settings and manually selecting it does nothing. Look for bluez errors in syslog right above this line. This package fixes this bug, but will introduce new one, but I think that will be easy to fix. This is how I tested it: 1) Installed trusty in virtual box. 2) Installed gnome-panel and indicator-applet-appmenu. 3) Logged in gnome flashback session with metacity. 4) Added indicator-appelet-appmenu. Menu bar applet disappeared. 5) Enabled -proposed and upgraded gnome-panel. 6) Logged out and logged in. Menu bar does not disappear. New bug: Launching application from Applications menu will inherit UBUNTU_MENUPROXY environment varibale - menu won't be removed from application and added to indicator applet. I have idea how to fix it, so I probably will provide fix for it today. Discovered that loss of focus is caused by GrabAccelerator dbus method,
handled by compiz. Gnome/unity-settings-daemon does not make focus go
away by itself. You can try following script:

I didn't remove unity-settings-daemon from this bug because maybe it
uses this dbus method for wrong purpose (maybe it's not suited for
binding keys for switching keyboard).

[Bug 1314444] [NEW] gnome-settings-daemon does not apply multiple monitor config on startup
Public bug reported: No matter what is in xorg.conf or gnome monitors.xml, display settings including monitor position and resolution are applied upon logging into Gnome Shell. The only workaround right now is to kill gnome-settings- daemon and restart it while in the session, which will apply the settings. [ubuntu 14.04-64bit on virtualbox.] confirmed Observed result: You arrive at the users desktop but background icons are not shown. A blank dialog pops up momentarily then a crash report dialog. The blank dialog periodically pops up again (as nautilus attempts to restart).
