[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.
Ubuntu 14.04 Gnome 3.10 I have 3 layouts, can't switch between them, not with shortcuts and not with choosing the language in the indicator. Sometimes it works to switch between two layouts, sometimes not. This is a terrible bug for people using multiple layouts on a daily work basis. [Bug 221112]
BTW, about the punctuation signs that, in French, requires a nbsp before them, i.e. ; : ! ? (for perfect typographic correctness, while usually few people know about this and nobody really cares...) : Usual word processing programs, such as OpenOffice / LibreOffice, when configured to the french locale, add these typographically required nbsps automagically, so people actually do not have to type the nbsp, which makes the need for an easy entry of these still less of an issue. Should we follow the slope of stealing a useful right [Ctrl] key for this, then me might well in the future steal the left one for the dash - , as in french, we typographically use at least 3 different lenghts for dashes. As previously, word processing software usually transforms the normal dash into the typographically correct dash... Nope, all this mess of quite complex and unusual characters is the very reason for which meta and compose keys exist in the first place... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221112 Title: Can't use space bar in search bar when using french alternative keyboard To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/libgnomekbd/+bug/221112/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[..] Add the package to a seed, or as a (build-)dependency of a package in main. [..] The archive administrators will promote approved packages to main if some other package or the seeds want it According to that page I'd assume that someone needs to add a main dependency to grilo somewhere, like for example from rhythmbox, in order for the main inclusion process to continue. [Bug 1318673] [NEW] Modifier-only input switching with non-latin keyboard layouts has no effect under GNOME Shell
Public bug reported: [Impact] In GNOME Shell, switching between latin and non-latin keyboard layouts using the XKB group options (e.g. ctrl+alt, alt+shift, etc.) doesn't work. This is a big usability problem for users that often need to switch layouts quickly, as using a typical shortcut with a non-modifier key is not appropriate for this function. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1218322 for impact. This occurs because gnome-settings-daemon updates the XKB layouts when ISO_Next_Group is pressed, but then XKB immediately locks to the next group afterwards. The proposed fix is to have gnome-settings-daemon watch for XkbStateNotify changes on the lock mask, and lock the correct group when XKB changes it. [Test case] In GNOME Shell: 1. gnome-control-center Keyboard Shortcuts Typing Modifiers-only switch to next source. Choose a key combination like Ctrl+Shift. 2. gnome-control-center Region Language Input Sources + Add a non-latin keyboard layout. I tested with English (US), Russian, and Arabic. 3. Tap the key combination. The indicator will switch between the two keyboard layouts, but typing will still be in the latin (English for me) layout. The gnome-settings-daemon package from https://launchpad.net/~attente/+archive/java-non-latin-shortcuts includes the proposed fix for testing purposes. The merge proposal is here: https://code.launchpad.net/~attente/gnome-settings- daemon/1218322/+merge/219055. [Regression potential] gnome-settings-daemon is already handling most of the keyboard layout configuration at the user level and updating XKB to keep consistent with the user's settings. So doing the proposed fix should only make it more consistent. But it might prevent XKB's layout switching from working in contexts where gnome-settings-daemon wouldn't expect to run or work, like for example in a VT, or in a full-screen application that has an active grab on the keyboard. ** Affects: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: grp input keyboard latin layouts non-latin non-modifier sources switching verification-needed xkb ** Tags added: verification-needed ** Branch linked: lp:~attente/gnome-settings-daemon/1218322 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1318673 Title: Modifier-only input switching with non-latin keyboard layouts has no effect under GNOME Shell To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1318673/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1318688] Re: nautilus crashes in action_open_item_location_callback() call in nautilus-view.c when pressing Ctrl+Alt+O directy on the desktop
When called on the empty desktop, the nautilus_view_get_selection (view) function results in a NULL result. At that point, there is no further need to continue the function execution and it is safe to exit as no resources need to be released. William, it can be download here (http://www.netup.ru/UTM5/demo.php) after registration. Sorry, but i can't found english version of this page. I mean, after installing packages from PPA and then restart the computer for some time it works great, but after a while, the characters no longer be input as if the application freezes. [Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.
Yes, I can confirm that with more than 2 layouts the thing is even more broken. I tried to get a shot to understand better what it's happening, but I suspect that the thing is **really** complex and we have a lot of interacting modules and things that (I suspect) no one really grasp --- the dconf thing, the IBus thing, etc. I feel really represented by the Steve Taylor's quote at the top of http://www.charvolant.org/~doug/xkb/html/xkb.html --- go and read it. At the end, I learned to edit KBD configuration to tailor a personal keyboard so that I can avoid switching. I imagine this is viable for me (just using three latin languages), not for people with more complex need. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1218322 Title: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc. To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1218322/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

After configuring my work Exchange account using EWS, email, contacts, and calendar reminders appear to be working with no problems. Yet, when I click on the Calendar button to view my calendar and change to Month view, Evolution completely locks up. I manually killed all Evolution- related processes using the system monitor, but re-launching Evolution takes me back directly to the Calendar, freezing the email client once again. If I wait long enough (about 15 - 20min) the email client seems to return back to normal, but will freeze again if I click Calendar once more. I was able to recreate the issue on a VM as well. I also verified the issue exists with vanilla Ubuntu Desktop 14.04 and Ubuntu GNOME 14.04. All tests were run and confirmed on 64-bit releases. I did a little research before posting and found someone had the exact same problem with Evolution running on Fedora. The original link can be found here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1075461 The issue appears to be with the evolution-data-server component, and a patched version of the component evolution-data-server-3.10.4-3 was released to resolve the issue. Re: [Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.
I think what is broken is just the program to configure these shortcuts. Why? Because using workarounds I can configure my X to switch among layouts when I press ALT+SHIFT. In my setup at least there is no inherent limitation about the ability of using these special keys for switching. To give an example of such a workaround in my Gnome Classic Flashback (Metacity): * If I right-click on the indicator icon, select Text Entry Settings... then I will get a dialog window where I can define just shortcuts for Switch to next source using... and Switch to previous source using... and in this dialog box I CAN configure ALT+SHIFT. When I close the dialog afterwards it works just fine, consistently, I can switch. * In the system settings - keyboard - shortcuts dialog I can even see ALT+SHIFT there, however if I delete this shortcut there is no way to get it back in that dialog because it will not detect the key. I can always set the shortcut using Text Entry Settings. Perhaps the problem is so trivial just for the case of Gnome Classic Flashback (Metacity). But in Gnome Classic Flashback (Metacity) in my opinion the only problem is the GUI in the system settings, and the problem is that it does not detect the keypress. The dialog even displays this shortcut correctly if it has been set using another tool, so the shortcut storage and representation is working, just key press detection for setting the shortcut is broken. Instead it continues playing entries from the play queue selected earlier (which is not any longer active) There is no way of convincing rhythmbox it should now play entries from the active play list. [Bug 221112]
Swâmi, We've all laid out these arguments many times over. Yes, this issue is frustrating (and I regret having vented some of my own frustration in my first comments) but let's keep it civil. There are proposed solutions. I, for one, think Andreas' proposal is the best way out of the current dead lock as it would allow each and everyone of us to configure the fr-oss layout the way we want it. It's now up to Sergey and Nicolas to decide how to move this forward. I too believe that Andreas' proposal is the right one. It permits people who really want the extra 5th level to be able to easily get it, while not breaking the 99% usual usage. Just for the record, I had not seen the linuxfr discussion. I guess mostly only people who would want the extra 5th level did realize that it would steal the right control key. If a discussion happened on are people fine with making the right control key the 5th level modifier by *default*, the result would be quite different, I believe.

[Bug 1318847] [NEW] shotwell shows incorrect time
Public bug reported: Shotwell shows a photo being shot at 11:11 although the original EXIF data give the time as 23:11. By default, the dconf key org.yorba.shotwell.preferences.ui.use-24-hour-time was set to false (…should use AM/PM notation). However it displays the time without AM/PM (at least under German locale). When enabling the dconf key, it still does not use the 24 hour format. This is in so far a problem that the 12 hour format is (at least without Anglo-Saxon AM/PM) incorrect. Preferably Shotwell should make use of the system-wide setting for the 12/24 hour format, which is automatically derived from the localization. Webb ] * lockscreen/LockScreenAccelerators.h: added required header for std:vector definition * disabled precompiled headers on arm64 Ubuntu package builds (LP: #1317276) [ Brandon Schaefer ] * Set the max width, so our static text wraps. So we don't end up rendering text out of the view area. (LP: #1312749) [ Marco Trevisan (Treviño) ] * UnityScreen: toggle activation of all the unity compiz actions when locking the screen Also, make sure that the lockscreen views are treated as always-on-front windows by nux (and this applies to both visibility and events). * PanelService: emit an invalid EntryActivated signal if the menu hasn't actually been shown In addition, if the menu is not visible after the first popup call, try to show a menu without keyboard focus. This will make possible to see menus also when there's a key- grab (although they will be without keyboard support). Finally, reset the menu state, if that failed. * UnityScreen: always paint the lockscreen above, just add menu and onboard as exceptions Some code cleanup, factorizing similar code. (LP: #1313280) * UnityScreen: don't try to show Dash/Hud if the screen is grabbed Also move the dash opening out from LauncherController, and get rid of UBus as first initialization source, as it can only slow things down here. (LP: #741869) * PluginAdapter: make sure we don't try to call an invalid initiate/terminate callback function (LP: #1221673) * DebugDBusInterface: match properties if they are in the AP array form [type, value] (LP: #1307748) [ William Hua ] * Add proper support for modifier-only shortcuts on the lock screen. (LP: #1291461) [ Jinkyu Yi ] * Dash: Fix problem at checking blacklisted unicode range (LP: #1251193) [ Andrea Azzarone ] * Add a warning in the session dialog if other sessions are still open.
