[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2014-05-12 Thread Danny Felsteiner
Ubuntu 14.04 Gnome 3.10

I have 3 layouts, can't switch between them, not with shortcuts and not
with choosing the language in the indicator. Sometimes it works to
switch between two layouts, sometimes not. This is a terrible bug for
people using multiple layouts on a daily work basis.

Unfortunately have decided to revert back to 12.04 until this is
confirmed to be fixed.

[Bug 1318191] Re: Shotwell does not show facebook, picassa publishing options and cannot add acount to publish to

2014-05-12 Thread Cardamom
I'm using the gnome 3 desktop, rather than unity and I report the same
bug.

I know nothing about how the software works, but could it be useful to
check in /usr/lib/shotwell/plugins/builtin the files
picasa_publishing_options_pane.glade and similar ones for the other
services (Flickr, Facebook, Youtube etc)? This is just a guess.

[Bug 221112]

2014-05-12 Thread Swâmi Petaramesh
BTW, about the punctuation signs that, in French, requires a nbsp before
them, i.e. ; : ! ? (for perfect typographic correctness, while
usually few people know about this and nobody really cares...) :

Usual word processing programs, such as OpenOffice / LibreOffice, when
configured to the french locale, add these typographically required
nbsps automagically, so people actually do not have to type the nbsp,
which makes the need for an easy entry of these still less of an issue.

Should we follow the slope of stealing a useful right [Ctrl] key for
this, then me might well in the future steal the left one for the dash
- , as in french, we typographically use at least 3 different lenghts
for dashes. As previously, word processing software usually transforms
the normal dash into the typographically correct dash... Nope, all
this mess of quite complex and unusual characters is the very reason for
which meta and compose keys exist in the first place...

[Bug 1318561] [NEW] GNOME 3, icon bar in the middle of the screen

When I hit the super key to enter the application menu, I find it in the

After rebooting this issue disappears. I have experienced it several

the screen and which is the origin of this bug.

[Bug 973295] Re: Enable grilo plugin

2014-05-12 Thread Florian W.
You know Ubuntu/Canonical processes much better than I do, so I guess that Wiki
page might be wrong/misleading:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MainInclusionProcess

It says The MIR team reviews the reports, and sets acceptable ones to
[..] Fix Committed. [..] Add the package to a seed, or as a
(build-)dependency of a package in main. [..] The archive administrators
will promote approved packages to main if some other package or the
seeds want it

According to that page I'd assume that someone needs to add a main
dependency to grilo somewhere, like for example from rhythmbox, in order
for the main inclusion process to continue. Something like the debdiff I
posted above.

If that is not the case, what else needs to happen? Something the MIR
team needs to do?

[Bug 1318669] [NEW] On move use same heuristics as Windows Explorer if NTFS inherit option is set

2014-05-12 Thread UlfZibis
Public bug reported:

When moving a file or folder, which inherits its permissions from its parent
folder, with original Windows Explorer within same NTFS file system, after the
move the object always inherits its permissions from its destination parent
folder in contrast to command line move, which never changes owner and
permissions.
IMO, Nautilus and also Nemo should behave same, if ntfs-3g inherit mount
option is active.

[Bug 1318673] [NEW] Modifier-only input switching with non-latin keyboard layouts has no effect under GNOME Shell

2014-05-12 Thread William Hua
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
In GNOME Shell, switching between latin and non-latin keyboard layouts using
the XKB group options (e.g. ctrl+alt, alt+shift, etc.) doesn't work. This is a
big usability problem for users that often need to switch layouts quickly, as
using a typical shortcut with a non-modifier key is not appropriate for this
function. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1218322 for
impact.

This occurs because gnome-settings-daemon updates the XKB layouts when
ISO_Next_Group is pressed, but then XKB immediately locks to the next
group afterwards. The proposed fix is to have gnome-settings-daemon
watch for XkbStateNotify changes on the lock mask, and lock the correct
group when XKB changes it.

[Test case]
In GNOME Shell:
1. gnome-control-center Keyboard Shortcuts Typing Modifiers-only switch
to next source. Choose a key combination like Ctrl+Shift.
2. gnome-control-center Region Language Input Sources + Add a
non-latin keyboard layout. I tested with English (US), Russian, and Arabic.
3. Tap the key combination. The indicator will switch between the two keyboard
layouts, but typing will still be in the latin (English for me) layout.

The gnome-settings-daemon package from
https://launchpad.net/~attente/+archive/java-non-latin-shortcuts
includes the proposed fix for testing purposes. The merge proposal is
here: https://code.launchpad.net/~attente/gnome-settings-
daemon/1218322/+merge/219055.

[Regression potential]
gnome-settings-daemon is already handling most of the keyboard layout
configuration at the user level and updating XKB to keep consistent with the
user's settings. So doing the proposed fix should only make it more consistent.
But it might prevent XKB's layout switching from working in contexts where
gnome-settings-daemon wouldn't expect to run or work, like for example in a VT,
or in a full-screen application that has an active grab on the keyboard.

[Bug 1318688] [NEW] nautilus crashes in action_open_item_location_callback() call in nautilus-view.c when pressing Ctrl+Alt+O directy on the desktop

2014-05-12 Thread Cristian Calin
Public bug reported:

This crash can be triggered immediately after logging in without any windows
open or with all application windows hidden.
When you press Ctrl+Alt+O, nautilus intercepts this keybinding and crashes.

I've installed the debug packages and managed to identify the brakage in
the action_open_item_location_callback fuction in nautilus-view.c.

Full backtrace:

[Bug 1318688] Re: nautilus crashes in action_open_item_location_callback() call in nautilus-view.c when pressing Ctrl+Alt+O directy on the desktop

2014-05-12 Thread Cristian Calin
When called on the empty desktop, the nautilus_view_get_selection (view)
function results in a NULL result. At that point, there is no further
need to continue the function execution and it is safe to exit as no
resources need to be released.

This patch checks for selection being NULL and returns preventing
nautilus from crashing.

Please comment on this and if appropriate merge the patch in the
nautilus package.

[Bug 1226962] Re: Hotkeys not functional in non-latin keyboard layout in 13.10 and 14.04

2014-05-12 Thread DEDan
William, it can be download here (http://www.netup.ru/UTM5/demo.php)
after registration. Sorry, but i can't found english version of this
page.

I mean, after installing packages from PPA and then restart the computer
for some time it works great, but after a while, the characters no
longer be input as if the application freezes. However, I can freely
push the buttons and select menu items with the mouse cursor.

I do not know whether this problem to the above PPA or not, but the fact
that the application performance deteriorates after installing PPA.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2014-05-12 Thread Romano Giannetti
Yes, I can confirm that with more than 2 layouts the thing is even more
broken.

I tried to get a shot to understand better what it's happening, but I
suspect that the thing is **really** complex and we have a lot of
interacting modules and things that (I suspect) no one really grasp ---
the dconf thing, the IBus thing, etc.

I feel really represented by the Steve Taylor's quote at the top of
http://www.charvolant.org/~doug/xkb/html/xkb.html --- go and read it.

At the end, I learned to edit KBD configuration to tailor a personal
keyboard so that I can avoid switching. I imagine this is viable for me
(just using three latin languages), not for people with more complex
need.

[Bug 1311213] Re: Evolution 3.10.4 with EWS plugin: Calendar locks up application

2014-05-12 Thread Sebastien Bacher
** Description changed:

+ * Impact:
+ e-d-s client might lock when ews calendars are in use
+
+ * Test case:
+ configure an ews calendar, check that the indicator-datime indicator still
runs correctly
+
+ * Regression potential:
+ Check that calendars work correctly in evolution and in the indicator
+
+ --
+
I ran into what appears to be a nasty bug with running the Evolution
email client 3.10.4 downloaded from the Ubuntu 14.04 Software Center
with the Exchange Web Services (EWS) plugin.

After configuring my work Exchange account using EWS, email, contacts,
and calendar reminders appear to be working with no problems. Yet, when
I click on the Calendar button to view my calendar and change to Month
view, Evolution completely locks up. I manually killed all Evolution-
related processes using the system monitor, but re-launching Evolution
takes me back directly to the Calendar, freezing the email client once
again. If I wait long enough (about 15 - 20min) the email client seems
to return back to normal, but will freeze again if I click Calendar once
more. I was able to recreate the issue on a VM as well. I also verified
the issue exists with vanilla Ubuntu Desktop 14.04 and Ubuntu GNOME
14.04. All tests were run and confirmed on 64-bit releases.

I did a little research before posting and found someone had the exact
same problem with Evolution running on Fedora. The original link can be
  found here:

  https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1075461

The issue appears to be with the evolution-data-server component, and a
patched version of the component evolution-data-server-3.10.4-3 was
released to resolve the issue. I tried looking online for an Ubuntu
compatible version of the patch but have fallen short.

Re: [Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2014-05-12 Thread Peter Schüller
I think what is broken is just the program to configure these shortcuts.
Why? Because using workarounds I can configure my X to switch among layouts
when I press ALT+SHIFT. In my setup at least there is no inherent
limitation about the ability of using these special keys for switching.

To give an example of such a workaround in my Gnome Classic Flashback
(Metacity):
* If I right-click on the indicator icon, select Text Entry Settings...
then I will get a dialog window where I can define just shortcuts for
Switch to next source using... and Switch to previous source using...
and in this dialog box I CAN configure ALT+SHIFT. When I close the dialog
afterwards it works just fine, consistently, I can switch.
* In the system settings - keyboard - shortcuts dialog I can even
see ALT+SHIFT there, however if I delete this shortcut there is no way to
get it back in that dialog because it will not detect the key. I can always
set the shortcut using Text Entry Settings.

Perhaps the problem is so trivial just for the case of Gnome Classic
Flashback (Metacity). But in Gnome Classic Flashback (Metacity) in my
opinion the only problem is the GUI in the system settings, and the problem
is that it does not detect the keypress. The dialog even displays this
shortcut correctly if it has been set using another tool, so the shortcut
storage and representation is working, just key press detection for setting
the shortcut is broken.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2014-05-12 Thread Romano Giannetti
@William (sorry, got posted too early, a pity launchpad don't let you
edit comments). I read wrongly your comment and thought it would have
been of no use (I use only latin keyboards --- switch between US intl,
US intl AltGr-dead keys, and Spanish), and the name of the PPA is for
non-latin...

[Bug 1242678] Re: evince cannot render some EPS files

2014-05-12 Thread Till Kamppeter
Seb, it seems that the bug is in evince, but easy to fix, according to
Marek in the Freedesktop bug report:

--
I think that the problem is in evince. It sets wrong angle for rendering with
spectre_render_context_set_rotation() from my point of view. evince rotates to
left by setting new angle to original_angle - 90. If you reverse the value
passed by evince to libspectre (360 - angle) then it works as expected.

[Bug 1318787] [NEW] Rhythmbox does not play the active entry

2014-05-12 Thread Rüdiger Kupper
Public bug reported:

- I select any play queue (file queue, etc). Rhytmbox starts to play the queue.
- I press stop
- I select an entry from another play queue (the entry is marked red, as being
the active entry)
- I press play
- Rhytmbox does *not* play the active (selected, marked red) entry. Instead it
continues playing entries from the play queue selected earlier (which is not
any longer active)

There is no way of convincing rhythmbox it should now play entries from
the active play list. It seems to remember the old, now inactive
playlist forever. This is awkward.

[Bug 1318816] [NEW] Limited data copy speeds USB hardisk

2014-05-12 Thread Alex
Public bug reported:

When trying to copy data via nautilus to my 1TB WDC WD10TPVT-00U4RT1
(01.01A01) hard disk using Ubuntu 14.04 64bit data copy speeds are
limited with huge delays inbetween copies. I smart tested the disk fully
on both Ubuntu 14.04 Windows 7 and with the Western digital tool it
appears ok.

For example If i select a 23GB folder with a few files and copy it can
start copying get to 777mb and freeze for periods of more than an hour
before trying to start again. There appears to be disk activity in
periodic phases and only short amounts of data is transfered.

The application System load indicator application seems to show disk I/O
wait times gradually increase to 75% and above

Copying to the same hard disk under Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04.4 64bit
transfers normally and at a much higher speed

Please let me know if I can provied any other logs

[Bug 221112]

2014-05-12 Thread Remi
Swâmi,

We've all laid out these arguments many times over. Yes, this issue is
frustrating (and I regret having vented some of my own frustration in my
first comments) but let's keep it civil.

There are proposed solutions. I, for one, think Andreas' proposal is the
best way out of the current dead lock as it would allow each and
everyone of us to configure the fr-oss layout the way we want it. It's
now up to Sergey and Nicolas to decide how to move this forward.

Cheers

   Hi,

   I found a bug in Ubuntu 14.04 !

I tried to pair a bluetooth stereo headset (A2DP compatible). The
pairing process goes well, but after that I can't select it on the

When I select it, it only shows the last selected item options and don't
do anything. (he should switch to the headset output).
I must mention that it worked very well on Ubuntu 12.04.

This bug can be in the bluetooth stack or in unity-control-center or
maybe pulseaudio. I actually have no idea.

I too believe that Andreas' proposal is the right one. It permits people
who really want the extra 5th level to be able to easily get it, while
not breaking the 99% usual usage.

Just for the record, I had not seen the linuxfr discussion. I guess
mostly only people who would want the extra 5th level did realize that
it would steal the right control key. If a discussion happened on are
people fine with making the right control key the 5th level modifier by
*default*, the result would be quite different, I believe.

[Bug 1318847] [NEW] shotwell shows incorrect time

2014-05-12 Thread Andreas E.
Public bug reported:

Shotwell shows a photo being shot at 11:11 although the original EXIF data give
the time as 23:11. By default, the dconf key
org.yorba.shotwell.preferences.ui.use-24-hour-time was set to false (…should
use AM/PM notation). However it displays the time without AM/PM (at least
under German locale).
When enabling the dconf key, it still does not use the 24 hour format.

This is in so far a problem that the 12 hour format is (at least without
Anglo-Saxon AM/PM) incorrect.

Preferably Shotwell should make use of the system-wide setting for the 12/24
hour format, which is automatically derived from the localization.
For comparison see the documentation for
com.canonical.indicator.datetime.time-format=locale-default

[Bug 995840] Re: When laptop lid is closed screen locks even if it should not

2014-05-12 Thread Neal Sprague
I'm running 12.04 LTS on a Dell Dimension 4600. I want to leave my
computer on because I'm using it as a server. To prevent burning my
monitor, I just turn the monitor off when not in use. After doing this,
I can come back in a little while (not sure exactly how long) and I turn
my monitor on and it's a black screen. The computer is unresponsive,
just a black screen and a power indicator LED. I've deactivated suspend
and screen turnoff in power, brightness and lock, and Xscreensaver, so
idk why this is still happening.

locking the screen Also, make sure that the lockscreen views are
treated as always-on-front windows by nux (and this applies to

  * PanelService: emit an invalid EntryActivated signal if the menu
hasn't actually been shown In addition, if the menu is not visible
after the first popup call, try to show a menu without keyboard

reset the menu state, if that failed.
