[Bug 1323434] [NEW] Awful memory leaks when using image editing software

2014-05-26 Thread EliCoten
Public bug reported:

Whenever I use image editing software I the whole system basically
grinds to a halt after a little use (not more than a few minutes
normally).

It doesn't make much difference which software I use - the problem
happens with Gimp, Inkscape, Dia and Shutter (when editing the image).
However the problem does not occur with LibreOffice Draw.

Using htop I notice that the cache figure starts to increase very
rapidly with every edit/brush stroke that I make, until it uses up the
entire available memory and the entire swap partition. And
understandably, with no free working memory left, the computer is
completely unresponsive.

This is quite a severe problem because it means that I can't use this
computer for any image editing and if I make a mistake the whole
computer will lockup and I could potentially lose unsaved data in other
open applications.

Package: gimp 2.8.10-0ubuntu1

[Bug 1323411] [NEW] Magnatune plugin does not download albums

2014-05-26 Thread el_calavera
Public bug reported:

The Magnatune plugin works for browsing and playing songs, but
downloading has stopped working.

Upon clicking "download", it will dump a file called "in_progress_…"
bearing the name of the respective album and containing a URL in the
folder ~/.local/share/rhythmbox/magnatune. This file will stay until
deleted manually.

Half the time, it will download a ZIP file of the album to the same
folder, but when it is finished, it does not copy the music anywhere,
and eventually the file vanishes.

What one would expect is, of course, that the plugin extracts the downloaded
music into an appropriate folder in the music library and deletes the cache
files.

[Bug 296867]

2014-05-26 Thread Simon McVittie
(In reply to comment #87)
> Why is the patch protocol-specific?

Telepathy does not have any central point where OTR can be done for all
protocols and all UIs simultaneously. We can either do it once per
protocol backend, or once per UI. Once per UI would break the ability to
log OTR messages or have them appear correctly in more than one UI (e.g.
both Empathy and GNOME Shell). Every attempt at implementing OTR in
Telepathy has had the plan to do it once per protocol backend; this
implementation is no different. In practice, like most new features,
everyone prototyped it in the XMPP protocol backend first, because
that's the one that works best.

I think the approach that is most likely to yield results in a finite
time is to get the XMPP implementation high-quality and mergeable first,
then expand to the other protocols; then any implementation mistakes in
the first implementation will hopefully not be repeated, and the rest
will be a simple matter of "pretty much what Gabble did". Using a
library for common code, or adding functionality to libotr, would be
fine too, but that's an implementation detail.

Anyone interested in this could add similar glue to telepathy-haze to
cover the various proprietary protocols (AOL, etc.). It might have
seemed more natural to go for -haze first, but -haze uses libpurple,
which is not really designed for things that aren't shaped like Pidgin,
so it can be awkward to get right and doesn't make a great place for
prototyping. The missing protocol backends after that would be
telepathy-salut for link-local XMPP, telepathy-idle for IRC, and
telepathy-rakia for SIP. I think it'd make sense to do -haze and maybe
-salut. I'm not sure -idle or -rakia is necessarily worthwhile, but if
people do use OTR on those protocols in practice, sure, why not.

(In reply to comment #87)
> Would it be possible to use the same code for the new gnome-chat application
> which will likely replace Empathy?

The majority of the glue between Telepathy and libotr (as exemplified
here by patches to Gabble), and the design: yes, it lives in the
protocol backend(s).

The UI: no, the UI code in Empathy is specific to Empathy. gnome-chat
would need to provide a way to enable/disable OTR and mark fingerprints
as trusted, and to be properly secure, it would need to display the
notifications from libotr in a way that cannot be spoofed by contacts.

Ah, that's great! Also, why was it necessary to make it protocol-
specific? OTR is supposed to be useful for any sychronous messaging

[Bug 1296275] Re: PTP Cameras not working on 14.04, works flawlessly on 12.04

2014-05-26 Thread Fritz Mayer
Same problem with CANON Powershot A2500.

Workaraound:
Get USB-ID with lsusb.
Copy 20-libgphoto2-6.hwdb and 20-usb-vendor-model.hwdb from /lib/udev/hwdb.d
to /etc/udev/hwdb.d (sudo!!).
Add a new dataset in this two files with your USB-ID in /etc/udev/hwdb.d !
Generate a new hwdb.bin in /lib/udev with
   sudo udevadm hwdb --update

Reboot your system.
Now it should work like in 13.10 (shotwell, nautilus).

Log file (~/.cache/upstart/gnome-settings-daemon.log) is same, keyboard
layouts seems not work correctrly. For example, when I trying to type
something in gnome terminal, it starts to show latin letters, then I
press "Ctrl+Shift", it changes layout to cyrillic, when I press
Ctrl+Shift again, it not changes to latin. But if I change focus to
another application and come back to terminal - it changes layout to
latin back.

Sorry for my English, but, I hope, you understand me :)

[Bug 1323274] [NEW] Restore Debian's init.d script for insserv compatibility

2014-05-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

We want/need to follow Debian's migration from static rc?.d/ priorities
to dynamic insserv priorities. See https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-
core-dev/ubuntu/utopic/sysvinit/unreviewed/+merge/21 for details.

This is a tracking bug for all Ubuntu init.d scripts that have LSB
header dependencies to init.d scripts which are in Debian, but not in
Ubuntu. E. g.

/etc/init.d/mpd:# Should-Start: autofs $network $named alsa-utils
pulseaudio avahi-daemon

But there is no /etc/init.d/alsa-utils in the Ubuntu package.

- greylistd is a false positive (changed recently)
- cman (src:redhat-cluster) does not exist at all in Ubuntu, so we need to
drop/fix its init.d dependencies.
- chef-server script comes from chef-server-api which is stuck in -proposed due
to uninstallability

[Bug 1201679] Re: ibus' Super+Space shortcut (usually) doesn't work

2014-05-26 Thread Daniil Ivanov
I now have the machines running 13.10 with LXDE as a desktop
environment. I don't have org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys
switch-input-source set. One of them doesn't have this bug present and
two other have. I would appreciate any hints how to find a root-cause
for this problem.

[Bug 1323276] [NEW] Rhythmbox UI lagging in actually_add_monitor

2014-05-26 Thread Ville Ranki
Public bug reported:

1. Launch rhythmbox, it works nicely for 15-30 mins
2. At some point RB's UI becomes very sluggish. For example changing song may
take 15-30 seconds.

This happens every time i run RB so it's easily reproducable.

I investigated it a bit, and seems that the UI thread is blocked in
actually_add_monitor. Full
backtrace follows:

[Bug 1318673] Re: Modifier-only input switching with non-latin keyboard layouts has no effect under GNOME Shell

2014-05-26 Thread William Hua
Hi Tjano, does 'restart gnome-settings-daemon' fix the problem with the
PPA? If not, maybe you can paste here the output of ~/.cache/upstart
/gnome-settings-daemon.log. I can't seem to replicate that problem, but
my guess is that it's unrelated to this SRU. If you can reliably
replicate it, can you please file a new bug for it? Thanks!

[Bug 1323212] [NEW] sFTP very slow to connect and causes Nautilus to randomly freeze

2014-05-26 Thread Full name
Public bug reported:

Linux ubuntu 3.13.0-24-generic #47-Ubuntu SMP Fri May 2 23:30:00 UTC 2014
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Ubuntu 14.04

Problems with Nautilus and smbd.

Nautilus takes minutes to connect to sFTP servers and once connected, it
randomly freezes (window turns dark and doesn't respond for 30-60
seconds). This happens often, but not only, after a time of inactivity.
Other software using sFTP, like text editors with sFTP support, are also
affected.

so I guess at least part of the problem are the frequent disconnects,
which are not network related. It's both a problem with smbd and
Nautilus however, because Nautilus should handle the disconnects better
and not freeze all the time.

Connecting via SSH through CLI is instant and doesn't cause any problems
whatsoever, so again, it's not a network problem.

I have installed Ubuntu 14.04 on several machines and they all have the
same problems. If the problems persist, I will have to look for an
alternative, as it's impossible to work like this.

[Bug 1244090] Re: Pressing any global keyboard shortcut causes temporary loss of focus

2014-05-26 Thread kolen
Pressing ctrl+backspace also causes this behaviour, although not defined
in "Shortcuts" in "System settings". This makes text input fields on
several webpages to glitch (instead of deleting last word, it moves
cursor to the start of text, deletes at other point, etc). This is
extremely annoying.
