[Bug 1292398] Re: multi-monitor : second screen position isn't saved from one session to another
In case it's useful: I have confirmed the issue on Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 but only when the monitor on the left is not the primary monitor. i.e. I can set my external monitor to be on the left of my laptop's built in screen, but only if I set it as the primary display. This might be important because, for me at least, it was not a timing problem but a configuration problem. [Bug 1353469] [NEW] Compiler optimization error needs investigation
Public bug reported: This is a breakaway bug from bug 1351308. accountsservice 0.6.37-1ubuntu7 introduced a new bug where libaccountsservice would not report the manager object as loaded. It wasn't because of the content of that upload, but rather seemingly because of building with a new compiler. It got uploaded shortly after the gcc 4.9 transition. I wasn't able to determine whether this is something accountsservice is doing or just gcc's fault. But even inserting some debug statements around the place or downgrading optimization to -O1 made the problem go away. So I'm leaning towards gcc. For now, we just changed optimization in the package to workaround the problem. But the root source should be investigated. ** Affects: gcc-4.9 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Package changed: accountsservice (Ubuntu) = gcc-4.9 (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to accountsservice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1353469 Title: Compiler optimization error needs investigation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-4.9/+bug/1353469/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1292398] Re: multi-monitor : second screen position isn't saved from one session to another
What do you mean on the left? Somehow it is hard to believe the actual physical location should be important. But clearly one of the monitors must be listed first in monitors.xml and gets x,y=0,0 assigned, while the other monitor is then relative to this one. So we have three properties a monitor can have: 1) internal laptop or external (or put it: hardware's main monitor and additional monitor) 2) has the gnome panel or not 3) is listed with x,y=0,0 as reference in monitors.xml Makes 8 possibilities. Argh, do I really want to try them now? (BTW: my monitors are stacked up vertically, the external one on top has the panel. And, hell, I just notice my monitors.xml gathered 3 configurations meanwhile. [Bug 1348384] Re: evince and okular do not render eps files correctly resulting in a black background
The source of this problem is contained within the libspectre1 library. This is the evince postscript backend. Between precise and trusty, libspectre1 was upgraded from 0.2.6-1build1 to 0.2.7-2ubuntu1.1. I downloaded and installed the previous version from the precise archive and eps files now render correctly in envice and the thumbnails are correct, too. [Bug 1348384] Re: evince and okular do not render eps files correctly resulting in a black background
Chris, Is there a previous version of libspectre1 from the trusty repository? I've been running 14.04 on this machine, and feel like this is a recent development. I will mention that 13.10 did not have this issue either, so the regression likely happened between the last version supplied to 13.10 and the current version in 14.04. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1348384 Title: evince and okular do not render eps files correctly resulting in a black background To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/1348384/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1292398] Re: multi-monitor : second screen position isn't saved from one session to another
Now here is something that did help. In effect it is likely much the same as killing gnome-settings-manager, except it is not killed, but just started later: sudo echo manual /usr/share/upstart/sessions/gnome-settings- daemon.override This prevents the gnome-settings-daemon to be started by the 'init --user' session manager. I thought now the gnome-settings-daemon might be started by one of /usr/share/upstart/xdg/autostart/gnome-settings-daemon.desktop /etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-settings-daemon.desktop but these don't seem to do anything. Therefore I created a ~/.config/autostart/gsd.desktop which starts gnome-settings-daemon. The downside of this approach in contrast to the kill-approach is that the if the daemon falls over, it is not automatically restarted. Obviously it helps to start the daemon rather later than earlier. Looking at the preconditions in /usr/share/upstart/sessions/gnome-settings-daemon.conf, they are start on started dbus and starting gnome-session INSTANCE=GNOME There is probably only one little thing missing here, but I have no background to guess what it might be. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1292398 Title: multi-monitor : second screen position isn't saved from one session to another To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/elementaryos/+bug/1292398/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1353718] [NEW] No reliable way to configure MAC address spoofing
Public bug reported: In Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS there is no way to configure MAC address spoofing, at least when using the r8168 driver. Here are the symptoms that I observe: 1. When trying to use the Network Manager applet to assign a static IP and a cloned MAC address, the connection fails and there is no network connectivity. It doesn't matter whether I fill both the Device MAC Address and the Cloned MAC Address fields, or only the Cloned MAC Address, the result is the same. 2. When using /etc/network/interfaces with the hwaddress ether aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff stanza, the connection is not brought up correctly after reboot or after the cable is unplugged and plugged back in. It only works when I manually type in sudo ifup eth0, which is unacceptable on a server. As far as I can tell, this might be caused by udev 'losing track' of the device due to the changed MAC address and not running ifup / ifdown scripts in response to kernel events, so I'm submitting this as a bug in systemd. 3. When MAC address spoofing is not used, both of these ways work correctly and network connectivity is correctly re-established after reboot and cable unplug.
