[Bug 1241972] Re: Drag and drop from Dash to Desktop doesn't work

2014-08-22 Thread Eros Montalbano
I have the same problem.

I'm not able to drag application icons from the left side bar (i don't know the
correct name) and also from the super button that lists of all contents.
Sorry, but i don't know yet the right names.

Hope this will be fixed soon... but it seems to be long time it is
present.

[Bug 908637] [NEW] Display brightness turn down on battery mode after 10 seconds (power manager settings ignored)

2014-08-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On my Thinkpad T400 in battery mode, the display brightness turns
considerably lower after not moving the mouse or typing anything for
about 10 seconds. The problem is also described here
(http://askubuntu.com/questions/65969/display-brightness-goes-two-
shades-darker-if-i-am-idle-for-10-11-seconds) but in XFCE the dialog
described in the solution doesn't exist.

I already tried changing the duration and the brightness in the xfce4
-power-manager-settings dialog, but all changes there are effectively
ignored. I also tried killing the power manager, killing upowerd,
killing xscreensaver, but the behaviour persists.

I don't know where to look for the setting causing this behaviour, but
nonetheless xfce4-power-manager-settings should detect, that its
settings won't take effect and should warn about this.

  * Allow logging into a desktop or tablet session again, by properly
dismissing old PAM conversations. (LP: #1350878) In a desktop or
tablet, we were accidentally starting two PAM conversations in
sequence on startup. Which is a small bug; it shouldn't normally be
a problem, since each new PAM conversation should kill the old
one.But the way we were killing the old one was subject to a thread
race condition. See, a PAM conversation thread won't exit until all
its prompts are answered. And what we do when we kill a PAM
conversation is to answer all prompts with empty strings.But it's
possible that when we want to kill a PAM conversation that it hasn't
actually gotten to the point of prompting us yet. And when those
prompts do come through, we were treating them as prompts for the
new PAM conversation.So I've changed the PAM conversation logic to
include a pam_handle and compare the handle with the current handle
when being prompted. If it's an old handle, we just dismiss the
prompt with an empty string response.Oh, and I fixed the bug that
caused two prompts on startup in the first place. (But we still need
the above logic anyway, for when you switch users quickly.) (LP:
#1350878)

[Bug 1234846] Re: Touchpad options missing drag lock feature

2014-08-22 Thread willglaub
Confirmed here as well, on precise, saucy, and trusty in unity, on
multiple devices.

The lack of this feature is an annoyance to me (and others I know)
daily. Dragging very far across a screen without drag-lock is unsafe,
as there may not be enough touch-pad real-estate to make the journey, or
the sensitivity of the pad may lead to inadvertent drop. In both cases,
items wind up being dropped where they don't belong -- often into
unintended folders, etc. not only locally, but in web-interfaces that
may lack undo-features, or have public side-effects.

Not everyone has physical buttons for their newer touch-pads to use as a
work-around, and many of us prefer to have a silent (no mechanical
clicks) mousing experience. The lack of this feature is one of those
things that makes Ubuntu suffer polish-points and usability points
versus the other major OSs and their GUIs.

In the meantime, just grab this file from here
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/utopic/gnome-keyring/utopic/view/166/debian/gnome-keyring.conf
(it's the fix) and put it in /usr/share/upstart/sessions/, then restart the

Still, I'm waiting for the fix to appear in the Trusty repositories
(should be trivial to backport).

[Bug 1360419] [NEW] Buffer containing russian Unicode charecters is not cleaning after pressing Backspace

2014-08-22 Thread Ivan Zouboff
Public bug reported:

I'm writing C applications for Ubuntu and I've find out interesting bug.
That's a short program showing what's wrong. It reads a line from user
and writes that line.

#include stdio.h

void main()
{

char buffer[1024];

for (;;) {
fgets(buffer, sizeof buffer-1, stdin);
printf(%s\n, buffer);
}

}

When I'm using a gnome-terminal with UTF-8 encoding, if I write in this
program a string Hello!, then delete it all with Backspace, than press
Enter, I'll see: program have red an empty string, as expected. Then I
write 123, delete it, press Enter and see: program have red an empty
string, as expected.

But if I write a string on russian, for example Привет!, delete it all
and press Enter, i'll see that program had red a string Пр. If after
full deletion of Привет! I write a string 123, it will show
При123. And this problem is happening with any Unicode russian string,
that need to be edited, even if you want to replace only one symbol:
say, I'm enter Привед, delete one character and press т to change it
to Привет - than program says it red a string Привет. There's no
such problems if I enter strings which contain only english letters
and/or numbers.

There's no such problem if I use any other encoding, which can be
selected in gnome-terminal menu: KOI8R, WINDOWS1251, ISO-8859-5. I
didn't noticed such problem on both XTerm an UXTerm, probably because
they're don't using Unicode; there's also no such problem on LXTerminal,
XTerm and UXTerm on my other machine running Lubuntu, probably by the
same reason.

Thanks you very much in advance for any efforts to solve this issue.
