Re: [Bug 1387303] Re: regression: gnome-keyring components can't be disabled anymore

2014-10-30 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
On 30 October 2014 01:51, Mike Berkley 1387...@bugs.launchpad.net wrote:
 This same bug affects ssh keys, since gnome-keyring cannot handle ECDSA
 keys.

*sigh*

I presume the following things cannot be handled by gnome-keyring:
* gpg smartcards
* gpg smartcards, used for ssh authentication
* ECDSA ssh keys
* ECDSA gpg (2.1 beta)

However, the upstart jobs tries hard to _not_ override existing agents:
[ -z $SSH_AUTH_SOCK ] || [ -z $GPG_AGENT_INFO ] || { stop; exit 0; }

Thus if one has an ssh or gpg agent set before gnome-keyring job is
spawned, it's not suppose to take over.

However on my machine things are a bit strange:
GPG_AGENT_INFO=/tmp/gpg-cSjth3/S.gpg-agent:2791:1
GNOME_KEYRING_CONTROL=/run/user/1000/keyring-BCPZie
SSH_AUTH_SOCK=/run/user/1000/keyring-BCPZie/ssh
GNOME_KEYRING_PID=2567

So ssh-agent secrets agents are GNOME_KEYRING, and gpg-agent is
provided by gnupg.

I think the logic in the job is a bit wrong, and it will always,
actually attempt to override the first agent.

I presume we want the pkcs11 gnome-keyring component? (That's for e.g.
normal ssl smartcards right?!)

As currently implemented, there is no easy way to have gnome-keyring
secrets/pkcs11 agent, whilst using gnupg/openssh agents for those
things.

These things seem to also resonate with
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-keyring/+bug/884856

I'm chatting on #ubuntu-destkop about it as well, a better plan needs
to be in place for easy way to use gnome-keyring for ssh/gpg (for
simple users), but also easy way to disable gnome-keyring's ssh/gpg
agents when it's not appropriate (advanced keys, certs, smartcards,
etc).

Ideally gnome-keyring would implement support for all of those

[Bug 1387643] [NEW] Pruning of probably stale sessions should be less aggressive

2014-10-30 Thread Thomas Voß
Public bug reported:

Right now, after 10 non-successful attempts to deliver location updates
to clients, the service considers the client to be hanging or dead and
prunes the session from the service's cache. With that, if the app wakes
up again, it does not receive updates for the same session anymore. A
restart of the app fixes the issue.

[Bug 1387303] Re: regression: gnome-keyring components can't be disabled anymore

2014-10-30 Thread Mike Berkley
The ssh key breakage is worse than not handling certain key types. If
the user has ECDSA key, then ssh-add will fail to add ANY keys,
including RSA and DSA.

Do we really need the acroread of security key agents, with so many
features that none of it is reliably secure?

[Bug 1387734] [NEW] Location service uses the cached authorization, even if the user denied location access to an app

2014-10-30 Thread David Barth
Public bug reported:

The bug occurs after removing location access authorization to an
application. The location is still available to the application, despite
the user having revoked access from within USS Privacy Location.

To reproduce:

1. Open a map application, like Here map
2. Allow access to location
3. Switch to System Settings Privacy Location
4. Disable location access for Maps
5. Kill Here map, and restart it

What should happen: you should not have access anymore (and should not see a
prompt)
What happens instead: the app still has access to your location, as shown in
the logs:

I1030 16:15:38.167752  3100 cached_agent_glog_reporter.cpp:32]
CachedAgent::authenticate_request_with_parameters: Application pid:
27975 Application uid: 32011 Application id:  com.nokia.heremaps_here
Cached request:   Request(from: com.nokia.heremaps_here, feature: 0,
when: 1414682114882519283, answer: granted)

I confirmed that the trust store had recorded the authorization change
as in:

phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ sqlite3 ~/.local/share/UbuntuLocationService/trust.db
select * from requests
1|unconfined|0|1414098093331252474|1

[Bug 1387747] [NEW] No longer asks for passphrase, no access to private key

2014-10-30 Thread Oliver Klee
Public bug reported:

I'm using Thunderbird with Enigmail on Trusty in KDE. I've set
/usr/bin/gpg (i.e., GPG 1, not GPG 2) as GPG path in Enigmail. My GPG
key is stored on a YubiKey Neo.

This has worked fine until yesterday. Yesterday, after the following
update:

gnome-keyring:amd64 3.10.1-1ubuntu4 - 3.10.1-1ubuntu4.1

… Thunderbird/Enigmail no longer asks me for me passphrase when I open
an encrypted e-mail or when I try to sign an e-mail. Instead, I directly
see the error message no private key available.

A downgrade to 3.10.1-1ubuntu4 and a reboot solves the problem. Updating
again to 3.10.1-1ubuntu4.1 makes the problem appear again.

There also have been a kernel update and an update of libykpers. Those
do nott seem to have caused the problem: Downgrading them (or booting
the older kernel) does not solve the problem. Only the downgrade of
gnome-keyring solves it.

[Bug 1387303] Re: regression: gnome-keyring components can't be disabled anymore

2014-10-30 Thread Pascal de Bruijn
This issue isn't about whether gnome-keyring is useful or not.

But there are indeed many reasons for not wanting to use it for anything
but secret store indeed, some as listed by Dmitri.

The fact that gnome-keyring doesn't implement some of these features is
rather inherent to the process, where either SSH or GPG need to advance,
before GNOME is in a position to follow them. Resulting in natural
lag. The fact that GNOME Keyring is only a small part of GNOME doesn't
make it any better with regard to prioritization.

The fact that GNOME (Keyring) is a usability focused project is indeed a
valid reason to prefer the real ssh-agent or gpg-agent as they are
security focussed projects and presumably should be more trustworthy.

As for the remark about pkcs10, I'm not sure that actually being used by
anything. The main use-case for it seems to be Firefox/Thunderbird which
use NSS, which doesn't seem to be hooked up to GNOME Keyring's PKCS10
component by default.

Regardless of defaults, if I understand well, the following will revert to the
old behavior:
echo manual  /etc/xdg/upstart/gnome-keyring.override

Allowing any user to disable to individual services like so:
echo 'X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=false'
/etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-keyring-gpg.desktop
echo 'X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=false'
/etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-keyring-ssh.desktop
echo 'X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=false'
/etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-keyring-pkcs10.desktop

[Bug 1387908] [NEW] FIDO u2f security keys should be supported out of the box

2014-10-30 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Public bug reported:

FIDO u2f is an emerging standard for public-private cryptography based
2nd factor authentication, which improves on OTP by mitigating phishing,
man-in-the-middle attacks and reply attacks.

Google Chrome supports u2f devices which are now widely available from
Yubico (new premium neo Yubikeys and Security keys).

However, udev rules are required to setup permissions to allow the web-
browsers which are running as regular users to access the devices in
question.

E.g.:

KERNEL==hidraw*, SUBSYSTEM==hidraw, MODE=0664, GROUP=plugdev,
ATTRS{idVendor}==1050, ATTRS{idProduct}==0113|0114|0115|0116|0120

Something like that should be enabled by default, however probably not
encode on the vendor/productid as other vendors will also make u2f
devices.

[Bug 1387939] [NEW] After minimizing while viewing usb drive, nautilus opens new Home window

2014-10-30 Thread Bill Sheridan
Public bug reported:

This odd behavior started immediately after upgrading to Ubuntu 14.04

I'll do a step-by-step to clarify:

Open Nautilus from Launcher
Browse to any folder on local hard drive
Minimize Nautilus
Click on Nautilus on the Launcher again, and it returns to where I was.. All is
well.

Open Nautilus from Launcher
Browser to external usb hard drive (I have a WD MyBook 500GB)
Minimize Nautilus
Click on Nautilus on the Launcher Again - It opens a new window to the Home
folder
If I click on Nautilus again, it then opens the miniturized view of all open
Nautilus windows, and then I can pick my exteral hard drive window.

Same results from a 7GB thumb drive
It works correctly while browsing a second internal hard drive
