[Bug 1246272] Re: Keyboard layout changing randomly
This is increadibly annoying bug. It is not related to ther gnome or unity. I'm using tiling window manager (dwm), without any desktop environment. I setup two layouts with switching and altg use, and most importantly I change Caps Lock to work as controll. Then some random time passes, BAM! all setings are reset. I manually execute comands to set correct keyboard settings, then it resets again. I can not track down what causes this, sometimes i get 5hrs without it triggering, sometimes it triggers twice in half an hour. It is incredibly interrupting to workflow. This is ther some X problem or some silinines in all new deamons being introduced. There were no such problems on 10.04. And for me at least I think that was much much rarer something like a couple of months ago, but I update raterher rarely so this is probably of little use. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1246272 Title: Keyboard layout changing randomly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1246272/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1396151] [NEW] password not checked on screen unlock
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** Public security bug reported: On a system upgraded from 12.04 to 14.04: When don't ask for password on login is checked for a user, previous screen locking would still require a password - the preference only applied to logins. [Bug 1396205] [NEW] Lock screen can be bypassed using a large monitor
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** You have been subscribed to a public security bug: $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS Release:12.04 I've managed to reproduce an error that lets me interact with applications while the lock screen is active. Here are the steps to reproduce, as specifically as I've been able to tell: 1. I have my Dell XPS laptop attached to a Benq desktop monitor via the laptop's mini DVI port. The laptop is closed, the screen is unlocked, and the desktop monitor shows my Ubuntu desktop and apps. 2. Unplug the display cable from the laptop and open the laptop up. Wait a couple of seconds for the monitor to report no input device. The screen should still be unlocked and the laptop screen should show the OS desktop. 3. Plug the display cable back in, and immediately close the laptop. 4. Observe that moving the mouse (Evoluent vertical mouse attached to an Apple keyboard, plugged into the laptop via USB) does not bring up the login dialog. The desktop monitor remains blank. 5. Open the laptop lid slightly, and as soon as the screen blacks out, close it again. The desktop monitor should remain blank. 6. Move the mouse. This time, the lock screen login dialog appears on the desktop monitor, but it does not cover the whole desktop. I am able to interact with a web browser running behind the lock screen, read pages, click links, etc. It seems like the lock screen is drawn for my laptop's small screen, and then not enlarged for the bigger monitor, leaving apps visible and accepting mouse input. See the attached image for an example. I can repro this bug every time by following the above instructions. [Bug 1396286] [NEW] gvfsd-sftp hangs on lost connection
Public bug reported: I connect to my SFTP shares on Nautilus (Files) and it works fine. However, if the wifi connection drops or if I put computer on stadby and resume later, Files app hangs. [Bug 1272613] Re: evince-thumbnailer crashed with SIGSEGV
Any news on fixing this bug? Can someone guide me with step by step instructions to generating crash report files for this bug as I'm hit by it in the most dreadful way. Browsing my directories containing pdf files (actually pdf books) crashes my computer, resulting in a blank screen, a blinking led light indicationg hard disk activity after which all I can do is press the reset button and restart the computer. I've been hit by this bug for the first time almost a year ago when I was still using Ubuntu 12.04. At that time the crashes were so bad that i couldn;t even start the computer unless I unplugged the electrical cord since the computer simply refused to boot up again after pressing the power button to turn it off and then pressing the power button to turn it on again. At that time I was convinced that it might have something to do with: a) a failing harddrive b) a failing power supply c) a failing motherboard I assumed option a) because I have multiple HD-s installed into my computer. I use one of them specifically for storing ebooks (most of them in pdf format). But then i realised that this crashes appear even during a generation of pdf thumbnails on my main HD - the one that has the operating system and my home directory on that at the time I started having this problem was only a month old. Also I was getting kernel messages about disk i/o errors labeled with date/time that coincided with the crashes. Since I have 4 HD-s in my system and the crashes happened during pdf thumbnail generation for files on each of them, I ruled out this assumption about a failing HD. Then I moved on to analyzing assumption b). I presume that having installed 4HD's in a system with an older power supply that was already built in the computer case that I bought at the time I bought the parts for my computer(which equals to a very cheap and mediocre power supply) could be the reason for the crashes. Since the crashes came soon after I installed yet another HD (a fourth one) it sounded reasonable that maybe the weak power supply is the culprit for the crashes. After making multiple tweaks with the HD cables (changind the PATA ports) etc and temporarily disconnection some of the disk I finally decided to purchase a better power supply since I was a bit desperate and since it would have been a cheaper purchase than buying a new motherboard. This didn't work either. Then while looking for a new motherboard to buy - this is a core2duo system and motherboards compatible with my processor and My DDR2 memory are no longer easy to find I suddenly remembered that I added some pdf related PPA to my system at the time that i started experiencing the crashes. This was almost 3-4 months after I started having the crashes. I uninstalled the PPA and suddenly the system crashes disappeared. Although I still find it unbelievable that a user space program can bring the system to its knees, it seams that this was the exact case!!! After this I decided to be more careful with adding untrusted PPAs. I even got the impression that the PPA package was even tampered with due to the believe in the mighty uncrushable linux. All worked fine on my Ubuntu 12.04.5 system until few days ago I finally decided it is time to do the upgrade to 14.04. Yesterday few days after the upgrade, I needed to look for some of the pdf books stored on my other drive. Since I wiped the thumbnail directory from my home drive after the clean installation of Ubuntu 14.04.1 (I have separate / and home partitions) nautilus has to recreate the pdf thumbnails. As I said most of my pdf files are stored on a separate HD. Most of them are e-books stored in multiple directories named by a subject. Some of the directories contain 4 pdf files, some 20, some 100+. Opening some of the directories containing pdf files work. All of the pdf thumbnails are being normally generated. But certain directories are dangerous to be opened. The thumbnailer manages to generate a few thumbnails and then my whole system crashes. Sometimes opening the same directory after the crash works. The thumbnailer manages to generate the rest of the thumbnails. Just before I sat down to write this comment i thought of new type of test - copying the problematic directories to an external NTFS formated hard drive. The first time I did this, it actually worked. I copied one of the crashy directories to my hd, opened nautilus so that it would generate the thumbnails for the pdf files contasined on the external HD and it workeded. Then I erased that same directory from the internal HD and then copied it back from the external HD. After this operation, nautilus managed to recreate the thumbnails on the internal drive without crashing. But I realized that this will not solve my problem because after my seciond attempt to do it with other directories, MY COMPUTER CRASHED while generating the thumbnails for the pdf files copied and stored on my external hard drive. Thanks god I finally managed
[Bug 792085] Re: Automatic remount of safely removed drive
I found two workarounds. Workaround 1) On Xubuntu 14.10 using Thunar 1.6.3 file manager I managed to stop the automatic remount of unmounted USB 3.0 drives using USB 3.0 ports. In Thunar: Edit - Preferences - Advanced - Configure the management of removable drives and media. - Storage tab: I unchecked the Mount removable drives when hot-plugged option. With this setting, after unmounting the USB 3.0 device in Thunar, 'dmesg | grep USB' has these new lines: [ 1902.911399] usb 4-3: USB disconnect, device number 7 [ 1903.395819] usb 4-3: new SuperSpeed USB device number 8 using xhci_hcd [ 1903.412365] usb 4-3: New USB device found, idVendor=174c, idProduct=55aa [ 1903.412379] usb 4-3: New USB device strings: Mfr=2, Product=3, SerialNumber=1 [ 1903.413049] usb-storage 4-3:1.0: USB Mass Storage device detected The USB 3.0 external HDD stops for a second and starts spinning after that (like before unchecking the mentioned preference), the device can be seen in /dev/ but is not mounted. As a side-effect of this, thunar doesn't automount drives plugged in. Workaround 2) Instead of using the eject buttons, right-click - Unmount each partition of the device in the file manager (I tested this with Thunar). [Bug 991481] Re: Constant dns traffic for daisy.ubuntu.com
This is a bit redonkulous. I just setup a new box using the utopic 14.10 amd64 desktop dvd image. I upgraded it from utopic to devel, which points to vivid 15.04 currently. I didn't notice this traffic before on my LAN's DNS cache because normally I would configure the static IP info from /etc/networking/interfaces, but this time I decided to do it from within the Unity GUI with NetworkManager. Then I started seeing lots of queries for daisy on my DNS cache server. IPv4 through NAT works, as does IPv6 using Hurricane Electric's TunnelBroker. I have blanked out any identifying IP info from the output below. john@venus:~$ sudo tail -f /var/log/dnsmasq.log | grep -i daisy [sudo] password for john: Nov 25 12:54:01 dnsmasq[12968]: query[] daisy.ubuntu.com from 2001:470:-:---::-- Nov 25 12:54:01 dnsmasq[12968]: query[A] daisy.ubuntu.com from 2001:470:-:---::-- Nov 25 12:54:01 dnsmasq[12968]: query[] daisy.ubuntu.com from 2001:470:-:---::-- Nov 25 12:54:02 dnsmasq[12968]: query[A] daisy.ubuntu.com from 2001:470:-:---::-- Nov 25 12:54:02 dnsmasq[12968]: query[] daisy.ubuntu.com from 2001:470:-:---::-- Nov 25 12:54:04 dnsmasq[12968]: query[A] daisy.ubuntu.com from 2001:470:-:---::-- Nov 25 12:54:04 dnsmasq[12968]: query[] daisy.ubuntu.com from 2001:470:-:---::-- Nov 25 12:54:05 dnsmasq[12968]: query[A] daisy.ubuntu.com from 2001:470:-:---::-- Nov 25 12:54:05 dnsmasq[12968]: query[] daisy.ubuntu.com from 2001:470:-:---::-- Nov 25 12:54:06 dnsmasq[12968]: query[A] daisy.ubuntu.com from 2001:470:-:---::-- Nov 25 12:54:06 dnsmasq[12968]: query[] daisy.ubuntu.com from 2001:470:-:---::-- Nov 25 12:54:16 dnsmasq[12968]: query[A] daisy.ubuntu.com from 2001:470:-:---::-- Nov 25 12:54:16 dnsmasq[12968]: query[] daisy.ubuntu.com from 2001:470:-:---::-- Nov 25 12:54:17 dnsmasq[12968]: query[A] daisy.ubuntu.com from 2001:470:-:---::-- Nov 25 12:54:17 dnsmasq[12968]: query[] daisy.ubuntu.com from 2001:470:-:---::-- Nov 25 12:54:32 dnsmasq[12968]: query[A] daisy.ubuntu.com from 192.168.1.-- Nov 25 12:54:32 dnsmasq[12968]: query[] daisy.ubuntu.com from 192.168.1.-- Nov 25 12:54:32 dnsmasq[12968]: query[A] daisy.ubuntu.com from 192.168.1.-- Nov 25 12:54:32 dnsmasq[12968]: query[] daisy.ubuntu.com from 192.168.1.-- Nov 25 12:54:33 dnsmasq[12968]: query[A] daisy.ubuntu.com from 192.168.1.-- Nov 25 12:54:33 dnsmasq[12968]: query[] daisy.ubuntu.com from 192.168.1.-- Nov 25 12:54:35 dnsmasq[12968]: query[A] daisy.ubuntu.com from 192.168.1.-- Nov 25 12:54:35 dnsmasq[12968]: query[] daisy.ubuntu.com from 192.168.1.-- Nov 25 12:54:36 dnsmasq[12968]: query[A] daisy.ubuntu.com from 192.168.1.-- Nov 25 12:54:36 dnsmasq[12968]: query[] daisy.ubuntu.com from 192.168.1.-- Nov 25 12:54:42 dnsmasq[12968]: query[A] daisy.ubuntu.com from 192.168.1.-- Nov 25 12:54:42 dnsmasq[12968]: query[] daisy.ubuntu.com from 192.168.1.-- Nov 25 12:54:42 dnsmasq[12968]: query[A] daisy.ubuntu.com from 192.168.1.-- Nov 25 12:54:42 dnsmasq[12968]: query[] daisy.ubuntu.com from 192.168.1.-- Nov 25 12:54:43 dnsmasq[12968]: query[A] daisy.ubuntu.com from 192.168.1.-- -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to glib2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/991481 Title: Constant dns traffic for daisy.ubuntu.com To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/whoopsie/+bug/991481/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1311257] Re: Wifi cannot connect or unstable after suspend 14.04
Ok, a follow up: An important thing is that my Wireless adapter is: Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 7260 (rev 83) So, my first comment (#13) comment had a problem, as I had tried so many things that I one solution step on the other. The unnecesary modprobe lines were product of a line that I had added to /etc/pm/config.d/modules SUSPEND_MODULES=$SUSPEND_MODULES iwldvm iwlwifi Now, I commented that line (# ) and I added in my /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf: options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1 Lastly, the script in /etc/pm/sleep.d/ (in my case it's named: /etc/pm/sleep.d/nm-prob ) now looks like this: #!/bin/sh case ${1} in resume|thaw) nmcli nm sleep false #modprobe -rv iwldvm iwlwifi #modprobe -v iwlwifi #modprobe -v iwldvm killall wpa_supplicant dhclient -r wlan0 dhclient wlan0 nmcli nm sleep false #restart network-manager ;; esac After TWO days I can confirm that these changes solved both the problem after suspend as the unstable connection problem. [Bug 1396378] [NEW] evince does not follow Xubuntu scroll direction
Public bug reported: Setting Scroll direction to reverse (Natural scrolling) in xfce4-mouse- settings works great for all applications except for evince. Same effect for both USB mouse and Touchpad. The same effect is observed when using this method: xinput set-button-map 11 1 2 3 5 4 7 6 8 9 10 11 12 I was able to kind of get a workaround using Option ZAxisMapping 5 4 in xorg.conf but it messed up my mouse speed pretty bad and xfce4-mouse-settings stopped working. (duplicate entries, settings did not take effect). On Xubuntu 14.04, evince 3.10.3, xfce4-mouse-settings 4.11.2 (Xfce 4.10). Have not tested other distributions. [Bug 1299604] Re: evolution keeps asking for password
I think the fact that Evolution clears the password without interacting with the user is a bug on its own. All the workarounds are temporary and do not solve the problem. Evolution seems to have problems dealing with basic connectivity issues: connection drops, mail server temporary down (Yahoo, anyone?). Bottom line: Evolution should never ever clear the password of any account. It could ask the user to update the password if there are authentication problems (if they are not related to connectivity issues), but the decision to change the password should not be made without the user consent. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1299604 Title: evolution keeps asking for password To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/1299604/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
