[Bug 1412916] Re: evince: Bad PDF rendering: invalid font scale

2015-01-21 Thread Charles Baylis
I would like this bug to be considered for a Stable Release Update to
14.04 (and 14.10 if applicable)

[Impact]

 * Many PDFs do not display correctly, including the boarding passes
from a major European airline

 * Printing a boarding pass is a common simple task which users expect
to work, and therefore should be fixed in the stable release.

 * see upstream bug report for discussion about the mechanism of the
fix.

[Test Case]

 * attempt to view the test case in the linked upstream bug using
'evince attachment.pdf'

 * observe corrupted text displayed

[Regression Potential]

 * theoretically, other PDFs which currently display correctly could be
displayed incorrectly after this change, but is intended to emulate
acroread, so this is unlikely.

 * patch has been reviewed and committed upstream, so should be safe

[Other Info]

 * none

[Bug 1401917] Re: GVFS Samba mounts time out after inactivity

2015-01-21 Thread Samuel Seay
I didn't read through all of the comments, that bug had a comment on it
noting this report. There is an even further upstream bug report #10615
at samba.org. That bug report is from 5/2014 so I'm not sure how to push
it further along. Any input on anything I can do to help get this fixed
is appreciated.

[Bug 1413283] [NEW] Set as default is absent from Open with.. context menu

Public bug reported:

Question http://askubuntu.com/questions/90214/how-to-set-default-program

way to set a file association. See the comment under accepted answer:

Right-click - open with - other application DOES NOT show Set as

Right-click - Properties - Open With DOES show Set as default

You need libpoppler-glib8=0.26.5-0ubuntu2 as well for evince. I suggest
just upgrading all of the poppler packages you have installed.

See the attached screenshots for before/after when upgrading
libpoppler46 libpoppler-glib8. I didn't restart the session, just
evince.

easyjet boarding pass not rendered correctly

Hello, the attached PDF (easyjet boarding pass) is not correctly rendered under
poppler (evince).
I am using Ubuntu 14.04 amd64, so evince 3.10.3 and poppler 0.24.5.

Evince prints a lot of messages like:
Syntax Warning: font matrix not invertible0a

while ghostscript renders the PDF correctly, but prints lots of:
Warning: Invalid 0.0 font scale given for Tf
Warning: /BBox has zero width or height, which is not allowed.

so I suspect the PDF is defective, but poppler should be made more fault
tolerant as ghostscript does.
Otherwise, no boarding pass print anymore :-(

I can fix the PDF with
gs -q -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -dSAFER -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -sOutputFile=out.pdf in.pdf

[Bug 1413117] [NEW] icon captions on desktop don't disappear

2015-01-21 Thread Masoud Kazemi
Public bug reported:

In nautilus, when I go to Edit - Preferences - Display - icon captions, and
change the highest order (first one) from None to Type (or anything else), this
change is not applied to desktop icons and nothing happens to them. And when I
set it back to None, Type captions (or whatever I selected at first) appear
under desktop icons.
This problem only occurs for desktop icons. It works fine for icons in other
directories.

Actually I expect that when I change icon captions from None to Type,
type information of each file or directory appears under desktop icons,
but nothing happens. And furthermore I expect that when I change it back
to None, type information disappears, but they appear.

[Bug 116453] Re: evince can not find ü in attached PDF

2015-01-21 Thread Jason Crain
hdante: the problem is that, despite appearances, the PDF in the bug
description does not contain the word 'Über'. It contains the word
'Uber', without a diaresis. You can see this if you copy and paste from
the document using any PDF reader, including adobe reader, google
chrome, foxit, etc. There is a diaresis, but it is not really attached
to the 'U'.

Even so, adobe reader and chrome can still find something if you search
the document for 'über'. What they seem to be doing is ignoring any
diacratic marks, so if you search for 'über' (or even 'ubér') it will
find 'Uber'. I was proposing similar behavior for poppler.
