[Bug 1251281] Re: gnome-session-flashback/Unity fails to start without hardware acceleration in cloud/remote environments (Forwarded-X/XRDP/VNC/NX/X2GO/Chromoting)
Hi there: I was also affected by this type of back when attemtping to connecto to a Lubuntu 14.04 server with X2Go server there (and from a Ubuntu 14.04 with Unity and X2Go client, in case this matters). Things were working as expected yesterday (no patches needed), when I was setting up the whole server (X2Go, plus a few other server settings needed for ISPConfig, Backintime, etc) Since today I could not login thorugh X2Go using the same connetion to LXDE that I was using yesterday (message shown today just after the connection attempt: Unable to execute: startlxde), I found this bug report, and after enabling the extra repo trusty-proposed, I installed the gnome-session-bin from there and gnome-session-flashback from standard ubuntu repos. But it was not enough, it seems: I could see the screen a little bit more evolved (blueish instead of fully black as before), but not enough. The errors shown server side at ~/.xsession- x2go-errors were the ones shown in the attached document, corresponding to the attempts to connect with a custom-desktop definition as: gnome-session --session=gnome-flashback --disable-acceleration-check After adding the repo ppa:rtandy/flashback, and upgrading packages gnome-desktop3-data libgnome-desktop-3-7, I was able to connect again with X2Go and standard LXDE as a session, and no more errors shown in the ~/.xsession-x2go-errors. My commands in case anyones is looking for easy copypaste of workaround: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:rtandy/flashback sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade gnome-desktop3-data libgnome-desktop-3-7 I wonder if the addition of trusty-proposed was really necessary. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1251281 Title: gnome-session-flashback/Unity fails to start without hardware acceleration in cloud/remote environments (Forwarded-X/XRDP/VNC/NX/X2GO/Chromoting) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-session/+bug/1251281/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1438967] [NEW] Running x11vnc via systemd inactive (dead) in Utopic, not Vivid

Re: [Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c
1) Windows - US International + Br.PT - '+c = ç 2) Windows - US International + EN.US - '+c = 'c 3) Ubuntu - US International + Br.PT - '+c = ć 4) Ubuntu - US International + EN.US - '+c = 'c My expectation would be to have the behavior #1 == #3 across the whole environment, i.e., terminal, gedit, libreoffice... Previous versions and flavors don't need to be fixed, IMHO. Focus on the next release because we already have workarounds for the previous releases. I just don't know if and if so how it could be accomplished. To clarify: As you know, I figured out how to add an alternative keyboard layout. What I don't know is how you would fix it in xkeyboard- config so the same dead key behaves differently depending on the letter. One possibility which we haven't discussed is to use some *other* key for dead_cedilla, and leave the behavior of the dead_acute key as is. I see two problems with that, though: 1. No obvious dispensable key which could be used for the purpose. 2. It would be a brand new behavior for the users, and different from how it works on Windows. -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/518056 Title: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c Status in central project for keyboard configuration: Confirmed Status in gtk+2.0 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in xkeyboard-config package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: When typing in a US-international keyboard with dead-keys (or UK-international), typing 'c results in an accented c instead of a cedilla. There is a workaround, which is editing the /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/immodule-files.d/libgtk2.0-0.immodules file and changing the line cedilla Cedilla gtk20 /usr/share/locale az:ca:co:fr:gv:oc:pt:sq:tr:wa to cedilla Cedilla gtk20 /usr/share/locale az:ca:co:fr:gv:oc:pt:sq:tr:wa:en (add the 'en' at the end). However, every time some update on this file is applied, one looses the change, and we get back to the accented c. That means having to modify the file again, logout and login. For me this is no problem. But for my brother, mom, dad, etc, it is always something that at least makes me less proud of having convinced them to use Ubuntu, because they don't know what to do each time this happens. I think we really need a configurable keyboard layout, or at least (and that would be very easy), the inclusion of alternate layouts on install that for the dead-key options (as US-deadkey and UK-deakey), alternate layouts as US-deadkey-cedilla. This change is relevant for at least Portuguese and French. [Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c
Uhm... I am not sure if that actually works as it should. First, I tried to apply the pt_BR.UTF-8 locale (using export LC_CTYPE=pt_BR.UTF8) but the language pack was not installed, therefore the workaround would only work after installing the language pack, probably that will create the same kind of confusion that the workarounds create now. Anyway, I installed it, and then I could export the LC_CTYPE. I launched a session of gedit and within that gedit session the ç appeared correctly. However, at the same terminal from where I launched gedit the cedilla continued to appear as an accented c, and the same for new terminals launched from that terminal. That is, changing the LC_CTYPE environment variable did not work system-wide. At the same time, although there could a combination of Language/Region/Keyboard that provided the correct behaviour, I am not sure if forcing a specific language for the interface is a reasonable solution to that problem. [Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share
my Canon camera mounts under ~/.gvfs. In general things work. I can copy most files to my hard disk. However, like Post 202, I cannot copy large files in the 2GB and above range. The copy starts normally, but if I use System Monitor (graphical interface) to monitor the system, I see the copy function gradually fill all of real memory, then start to fill swap space. Finally it just aborts. It appears the copy function is not emptying the buffer to disk, but just filling it. The problem happens on both ubuntu 12.04 (gvfs 1.2.1) and 14.04 (gvfs 1.20.1). I am not sure this is related to the Samba problem, but gvfs still is not working correctly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1075923 Title: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gvfs/+bug/1075923/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c
On 2015-03-31 17:15, Leandro wrote: First, I tried to apply the pt_BR.UTF-8 locale (using export LC_CTYPE=pt_BR.UTF8) but the language pack was not installed, therefore the workaround would only work after installing the language pack, probably that will create the same kind of confusion that the workarounds create now. Actually it's not necessary that the language packs are installed, but the locale needs to be generated. If you set a Brazil location for the time zone in the installer, you'll end up with pt_BR.UTF-8 generated to begin with, so in those cases there shouldn't be a reason for user confusion. Otherwise the locale can be generated either by installing the Brazilian Portuguese language via Language Support or by running this command: sudo locale-gen pt_BR.UTF-8 Anyway, I installed it, and then I could export the LC_CTYPE. Let me guess: You exported LC_CTYPE in a terminal window and then launched gedit from there. That doesn't work for me either. One way to test it properly is to edit your ~/.profile file by adding this line: export LC_CTYPE=pt_BR.UTF-8 and then log out and log in again. For me it works in the terminal, in gedit, in LibreOffice, and in HTML forms in Firefox. At the same time, although there could a combination of Language/Region/Keyboard that provided the correct behaviour, I am not sure if forcing a specific language for the interface is a reasonable solution to that problem. But we wouldn't force the display language. The LC_CTYPE environment variable would get its value automatically through either of these options: * Set Brazilian Portuguese as the display language, OR * Set Brazilian Portuguese as the regional formats. Both those are controlled via the Language Support GUI, so the user wouldn't need to open a terminal window to fix it. In addition to that, if you don't want to have Brazilian Portuguese as the display language or the regional formats setting, you can export LC_CTYPE manually in ~/.profile as shown above. And, again, if the user sets a Brazil location for time zone when installing, the regional formats will be Brazilian Portuguese automatically. Please note that these things work differently today compared to how it worked when you filed this bug report five years ago. ;) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/518056 Title: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xkeyboard-config/+bug/518056/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1428712] Re: Screen turns green and locks out during apt full-upgrade
Originally this sounded like a duplicate of bug 1431200, as that's pretty much the only point in time when an upgrade of the systemd package could even remotely trigger a graphics state change, by accidentally reloading/restarting some units like plymouth. But you said that this happens on upgrading non-systemd systems, so systemd can't possibly do that. Installing/upgrading things like console-setup-linux could very well do that, though. Do you have a way to reproduce this? By e. g. sudo apt-get install --reinstall systemd, or reinstalling other packages from that set, like console-setup-linux? [Bug 1436297] Re: Nautilus launcher icon matching issue (seems due to desktop rename)
No I don't have any nautilus related files in ~/.local/share/applications/ I think Colin pointed out (in the duplicate bug) that the problem really stems from the fact that in /usr/share/applications, there's nautilus.desktop and then there's org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop, which is marked with NoDisplay=true. Seems like the one in the Application menus is nautilus.desktop, but the one that gets launched is org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop, so the windows aren't properly matched to the icon. org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop also doesn't have any of the right-click menu bookmarks. Resetting my launcher favorites using the gsettings command brings back a file icon that doesn't duplicate, BUT it doesn't have any bookmarks in the right click menu. So it seems like the Files icon in the Applications section is different from the one that's being written into com.canonical.Unity.Launcher favorites by default. [Bug 1438682] [NEW] Shutdown hangs with systemd and NFS mount
Public bug reported: I have the following line in /etc/fstab: 192.168.1.5:/srv/nsf4/main /shares nfs noauto,nofail,x-systemd.automount,_netdev,x-systemd.device-timeout=14,size=32768,wsize=32768 0 0 This works properly in the sense that systemd does not hold up the system when booting, and it does mount the directory upon first access, however the system hangs at shutdown in a manner consistent with systemd shutting down the network before attempting to unmount the drive. Indeed, even when the system is running, I can manually run systemctl stop NetworkManager.service and/or systemctl stop network.target and a call to systemctl status shares.mount shows that the mount is still active. Finally, I will describe the debugging I have done to this point. First, if I manually unmount the share before shutting down, it shuts down immediately. Second, it should be noted that this does not in anyway depend on using the x-systemd.automount option. The same thing happens without automount (or fstab for that matter - simply manually mounting an NFS share and shutting down results in the computer getting stuck on the shutdown screen). I also tried adding additional items to the Require= and After= lines for shares.mount, specifically I tried adding network.target, NetworkManager.service, and wpa_supplicant.service. In each case, I did observe that manually running systemctl stop NetworkManager.service (for instance) now did cause the share to be unmounted, however if I shutdown the computer without manually stopping these services it would still stall on the shutdown screen. I can leave it for over 10 minutes, at which point I manually power it off. [Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c
On 31/03/2015 18:52, Gunnar Hjalmarsson wrote: For me it works in the terminal, in gedit, in LibreOffice, and in HTML forms in Firefox. I can now add that it works in Skype (a qt application) too. I have tested it successfully in trusty, utopic and vivid. Btw, my selected IM framework is IBus, i.e. the default in Ubuntu (with Chinese as an exception in 15.04). When I tested to switch to fcitx, it did not work. Possibly fcitx will be the default IM framework in Ubuntu 15.10, so fixing it for fcitx may be a future issue. Btw, the fact that it works for me with IBus is in line with those who stated in previous comments that simply installing ibus made '+c work for typing ç. Maybe they were using Brazilian Portuguese as display language... On 2015-03-31 23:04, Leandro wrote: Indeed, adding export LC_CTYPE=pt_BR.UTF-8 to ~/.profile worked. It seems that the combination of sudo locale-gen pt_BR.UTF-8 and that works nicely and that it is a nice workaround. Right. I don't understand yet exactly how this can become a defintive solution. Well, my idea is to have the cedilla-brazil.sh file installed on everyone's computers by default. (I'm thinking of including it in the language-selector-common package.) That way it would work out of the box for those users who select a Brazilian location for the time zone when installing Ubuntu. Otherwise the users can fix it via the Language Selector GUI instead of the command line workaround: * Open Language Support * Install the Portuguese language * Select Brazilian Portuguese *either* as display language *or* as the regional formats choice (or both) Certainly I don't say that this is an ideal solution. Just like you I think it would be more natural to create an alternative keyboard layout which could be selected in Text Entry. I just don't know if and if so how it could be accomplished. The LC_CTYPE thing appears to be at least an improvement IMO. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/518056 Title: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xkeyboard-config/+bug/518056/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1438740] Re: gnome-panel crashes when starting Unity 3D engine steam game - signal 5 in _XReply()
Peter Schüller, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Does this issue occur with the latest release of Ubuntu via http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ ? ** Description changed: - This bug is a followup to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source - /gnome-panel/+bug/1201095 with attached crash report. - The game where I observe this is Magicite, however it seems to be the case for other steam games as well (see other bug report). I run gnome-flashback session with compiz on Ubuntu 14.04. When the game starts, the panel crashes and disappears. I have to restart it manually in a shell (it does not automatically respawn). - - To report this bug I also had to use the workaround given here: - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bug/1201095/comments/7 ProblemType: Crash DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: gnome-panel 1:3.8.0-1ubuntu12.2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-46.79-generic 3.13.11-ckt15 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-46-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.8 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Tue Mar 31 17:44:27 2015 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/gnome-panel ExecutableTimestamp: 1412098123 GsettingsChanges: - + InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-09-05 (207 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS Trusty Tahr - Release amd64 (20140722.2) ProcCmdline: gnome-panel ProcCwd: /home/ps Signal: 5 SourcePackage: gnome-panel StacktraceTop: - ??
