[Bug 1449959] Re: Running ./unity --replace ... terminates the session and starts a new one on vivid

2015-04-29 Thread Iain Lane
Thanks. I've uploaded a fix which works for me to vivid's SRU queue. It
should be accepted into vivid-proposed soon.

** Description changed:

+ [ Description ]
+
+ Due to an error when merging with Debian, ubuntu's gnome-session file is
+ inadvertantly starting compiz when it should instead be managed by upstart.
+ This means that we don't, for example, have unity restarted by upstart if it
+ crashes and (as the reporter of this bug notes) unity --replace breaks due to
+ gnome-session tearing the session down if one of its required components goes
+ away and comes back.
+
+ [ Fix ]
+
+ Remove compiz; from ubuntu.session so that the unity7.conf shipped by unity
+ is used.
+
+ [ QA ]

+ compiz is a direct child of upstart and the unity7 job is running.
+
+ Additionally, verify that unity --replace kicks you back to the display
manager
+ before and unity is replaced in-session after.
+
+ [ Regression potential ]
+
+ unity's job is now used instead of upstart being started by gnome-session.
This
+ was the case since we started having upstart in the session, but make sure
that
+ login and logout still work properly.
+
+ [ Original description ]
+
Running ./unity --replace params on vivid (systemd) exits the session
and the login screen of lightdm appears. After log in, a new session
  starts.

  Steps:
  1- build unity
2- run ./unity --replace with the env. variables and parameters you used on
utopic
3- see the lightdm login screen and login

Many indicators do not work. eg nm-applet
I cannot type 's' in gnome-terminal - it keeps on opening the Applications menu.

Should I raise new bug(s) for these? This problem is sort of finished.
Should a new bug be for gnome-session or xrdp?

[Bug 1450009] [NEW] systemd started xubuntu 15.04 lets system sleep after boot and start of lightdm greeter

2015-04-29 Thread inode77
Public bug reported:

Using systemd as init system on a HP zbook15 notebook having 2 external
monitors connected using a docking station and starting with lid closed the
system goes to sleep after successfully booting and starting lightdm greeter.
Sometimes there's enough time to enter username and password but system goes to
sleep every time after a few seconds.
The system can be woken up and used after this happens but it will not let me
shutdown later.

The problem is just present in docked situation starting with closed lid
using systemd a init system.

If notebook is used in non-docked situation with open lid and systemd
the problem does not occur.

Workaround: A switch back to upstart as init system resolves the issue.

[Bug 1423811] Re: 219-1ubuntu1 regression: boot hangs, logind fails

2015-04-29 Thread Martin Pitt
I cannot reproduce this with current upstream git master any more, so I
ran another bisect. Apparently
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/systemd/systemd/commit/?id=6410 fixes
this, so I guess the regression was introduced in
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/systemd/systemd/commit/?id=a354329f72 and
the reverted commit
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/systemd/systemd/commit/?id=13790add4bf64
merely exposed the bug as journald was (one of the) first user of fd
storage.

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/systemd/systemd/commit/?id=6410 applies
cleanly on top of v219-stable, so I replaced our reverted patch with a
backport of that fix:

  http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-
systemd/systemd.git/commit/?h=experimentalid=894d0f2d21d8ed18

Now the boot-smoke test still succeeds with that package.

[Bug 1448407] Re: icons size issues in Nautilus

2015-04-29 Thread Sebastien Bacher
why do you call gvfs-mime there? it's to know what program is associated
to open the file, nothing to do with the icon, that command works on
mimetype, e.g gvfs-mime --query
application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.spreadsheet should work

nautilus looks at the corresponding icon in the theme, e.g
$ find /usr/share/themes/icon_theme_name -name
application-vnd.oasis.opendocument.*

[Bug 1448407] Re: icons size issues in Nautilus

2015-04-29 Thread Wolf Rogner
Interesting but not further fruitful.

gvfs-info 20060627\ One\ Codes.ods (just one sample)

gives these attributes:
...
display name: 20060627 One Codes.ods
...
type: regular
...
attributes:
  standard::type: 1
  standard::name: 20060627 One Codes.ods
...
  standard::icon: application-vnd.oasis.opendocument.spreadsheet,
x-office-spreadsheet
  standard::content-type: application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.spreadsheet
  standard::fast-content-type: application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.spreadsheet
...
  standard::symbolic-icon:
application-vnd.oasis.opendocument.spreadsheet-symbolic,
x-office-spreadsheet-symbolic, application-vnd.oasis.opendocument.spreadsheet,
x-office-spreadsheet
...

gvfs-mime --query 20060627\ One\ Codes.ods
No default applications for '20060627 One Codes.ods' (Hey? right clicking
provides open with LibreOffice Calc!!!)

Searched a bit more, found a reference to ~/.config/mimeapps.list and
~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list. They differ in content but
provide overlapping sections and mime types.

Strange that the application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.spreadsheet is
missing from both files.

I compared these files to the ones I had with 14.10 (where the icons
were displayed correctly): No differences here.

Any suggestions?

[Bug 1448407] Re: icons size issues in Nautilus

2015-04-29 Thread Wolf Rogner
OK, now we come closer to the icons.
(the gvfs-mime was just an excursion to more precisely understand whats going
on under the hood).

So the question now is, which icon set does Nautilus choose?

The Theme is Ambiance.
The icon theme in the index.theme is ubuntu-mono-dark

But there are no icons for applications or documents in this theme.
I observed that Nautilus takes the folder icons from Humanity. Some icons are
taken even from the pixmaps directory.

So, there must be some other mechanism to extract icons.

Another interesting observation: The phenomenon can be observed on a LiveCD (or
LiveUSB)
I have tried it on all my other machines (most Apple hardware, some HP and
other machines).

With a Nautilus setting of 150% for icon view, this can be observed on
all machines.

try:

Nautilus preferences:
Icon View Defaults: Default zoom level: 150%
List View Defaults: Default zoom level: 66%

Make an LO document, change the zoom with CTRL-+/-.

Thanks for the excursion into how Unity works in conjunction with GNOME.

Why exactly Gimp refuses to convert them to Indexed mode is unclear.

To test this yourself:
* Create a new RGB image

[Bug 1448407] Re: icons size issues in Nautilus

2015-04-29 Thread Wolf Rogner
I have set display magnification to 1.62 in System Settings / Displays
I have set default icon magnification to 150% and list to 66% in Nautilus

I agree, it is strange.

The phenomenon is not constrained to LibreOffice icons. I found that
HTML files are the same icon size.

Here is a strange observation: the scalable icons of LibreOffice are
corrupt (see screenshot)

opens a terminal for example, and types the s key, it acts as if the Super
key is also pressed along with it. Hence, this appears to be a gnome-* issue.

+ [Test Case]
Vivid new install setup for tightvncserver:
  sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade sudo apt-get -y
install xrdp gnome-session-flashback sudo apt-get -y remove vino nano
.xsession
  #START
  export XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP='GNOME-Flashback:Unity'
  exec gnome-session --session=gnome-flashback-metacity
--disable-acceleration-check
  #END

  sudo nano /etc/xrdp/xrdp.ini

  change to:
  #START

  bitmap_compression=yes
  port=3389
  crypt_level=high
  channel_code=1
  max_bpp=24

  #END

Log out, log back in, and RDP in via either Windows Remote Desktop
  Connection or Remmina.

- WORKAROUND: Applications System Tools System Settings Keyboard
- Shortcuts Disable all shortcuts containing the Super key.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ This patch adds an additional check for modmask. It is already in upstream
metacity.
+
+
+ WORKAROUND: Applications System Tools System Settings Keyboard
Shortcuts Disable all shortcuts containing the Super key.

WORKAROUND: Don't use the .xsession file with tightvncserver, but this
then creates a shared desktop experience, instead of ones own, not seen
by the user at the local console.

[Bug 1448407] Re: icons size issues in Nautilus

2015-04-29 Thread Wolf Rogner
I tried a few things:

reinstalled libreoffice-common (which contains the icons).

Nothing changed

I changed an icon manually and it worked (changed to hicolor icons,
48x48).

Nothing changed

dconf-editor: claims desktop icon set is ubuntu-mono-dark (which has no
libreoffice icons).

No entry for nautilus.

Thus the question: How does Unity get its icons?

The desktop file states (e.g.
/usr/share/applications/libreoffice-writer.desktop):
...
Icon=libreoffice-writer
...

and on the machine I can find:

./app-install/icons/libreoffice-writer.svg
./icons/gnome/16x16/apps/libreoffice-writer.png
./icons/gnome/32x32/apps/libreoffice-writer.png
./icons/gnome/48x48/apps/libreoffice-writer.png
./icons/gnome/128x128/apps/libreoffice-writer.png
./icons/gnome/scalable/apps/libreoffice-writer.svg
./icons/gnome/256x256/apps/libreoffice-writer.png
./icons/hicolor/16x16/apps/libreoffice-writer.png
./icons/hicolor/32x32/apps/libreoffice-writer.xpm
./icons/hicolor/32x32/apps/libreoffice-writer.png
./icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/libreoffice-writer.png
./icons/hicolor/128x128/apps/libreoffice-writer.png
./icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/libreoffice-writer.svg
./icons/hicolor/256x256/apps/libreoffice-writer.png
./icons/HighContrast/16x16/apps/libreoffice-writer.png
./icons/HighContrast/32x32/apps/libreoffice-writer.png
./icons/HighContrast/48x48/apps/libreoffice-writer.png
./icons/HighContrast/22x22/apps/libreoffice-writer.png
./icons/HighContrast/256x256/apps/libreoffice-writer.png
./icons/HighContrast/24x24/apps/libreoffice-writer.png
./icons/locolor/16x16/apps/libreoffice-writer.png
./icons/locolor/32x32/apps/libreoffice-writer.png

Presuming Nautilus being a Gnome application, Nautilus searches for the
icons in the gnome part first (maybe someone can answer this quickly
before I have to dig into the sources).

So, as I am completely confused now, how can I help sort this out?

[Bug 1448407] Re: icons size issues in Nautilus

2015-04-29 Thread Sebastien Bacher
the file icons don't come from the .desktop Icon, they are mode on the
mimetype (you can see the mimetype in e.g nautilus properties)

you can run gvfs-info somefile to get the details of the mimetype
and icon it's using

Hi Alberts Muktupāvels,

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it but it hasn't made any difference.
(I know the new environment values were used because I can see them in
the environment when running terminal in the gnome desktop). The
messages in .xsession-errors are in a different order but seem to be the
same.

I have attached the latest ~/.xsession-errors file.

[Bug 1450279] [NEW] gnome flashback session fails to end on logout in Trusty

2015-04-29 Thread Chris Good
Public bug reported:

On logout, the window changes to a blank purple screen and never closes.
All the processes are still running.

This is a big problem because in Trusty, Unity needs hardware acceleration, so
you cannot use Unity in any remote access scenario (like using windows remote
desktop to access a VMware vSphere Ubuntu Trusty vm with xrdp) where hardware
acceleration is not available.
Many people are trying to use alternative desktops, like gnome-flashback or
xfce (xfce seems to have too many downsides in this situation for me).

This is a follow on from
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/1251281 where
gnome-session-flashback was modified to accept a new flag
(--disable-acceleration-check) so that a gnome flashback session could be
started.
Thanks to the patch for 1251281 we can now run gnome flashback but it doesn't
logout properly, which makes it unusable.

Environment:
Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS (up to date)
gnome-session-flashback 1:3.8.0-1ubuntu12.2
gnome-session 3.9.90-0ubuntu12.1

~/.xsession :
 gnome-session --session=gnome-flashback --disable-acceleration-check

Using Windows 7 Remote Desktop to connect to Ubuntu vm.
Login to xrdp using module sesman-Xvnc

I have attached the ~/.xsession-errors file.

[Bug 1449122] Re: Nautilus (and other apps) force-close unless run as root

2015-04-29 Thread Wolter Hellmund
I tried to use apport-retrace but I didn't know which argument to pass.
If I passed the crash file at /var/crash then it attempted to download
some files and then nothing else happened.
