[Bug 1465664] [NEW] gradual/exponential increase in memory use of indicator-bluetooth

2015-06-16 Thread Alper
Public bug reported:

indicator-bluetooth (0.0.6+14.10.20141006-0ubuntu1) starts automatically
after boot, and its memory use increases continuously, gradually and
exponentially, to the point that it reaches the system limit. Then it
causes overheating and crashes the system requiring a reboot only
possible forcefully by on/off switch of the computer. When I kill the
process from system monitor to avoid this happening, it starts from zero
again (automatically) and restart the gradual increase of memory use.
Obviously there's a loop, but I couldn't figure out or find the reason
or how to solve this. I can not remove indicator-bluetooth permanently
due to package dependencies.

This started happening after I upgraded from 14.10 to 15.04.

My computer is Toshiba Portege Z930 with 8 GB memory (which becomes used
up in app. 30 minutes), Intel® Core™ i7-3687U CPU and Intel® Ivybridge
Mobile graphics card.

I'm not an advanced user, so please excuse me if I have surpassed any
essential step before filing here.

[Bug 1465686] [NEW] Desktop Application Launchers are not POSIX compatible

2015-06-16 Thread Michael Titke
Public bug reported:

I like to keep some application starters in a folder ~/Applications
because I need them once or twice a year but I am glad when I do not
need to see them at all. One example is OpenOffice.org but that is a
custom install - let's have a look at Inkscape.

First of all there doesn't seem to be anyway to create a Launcher for a
running application. Dragging it's icon to a folder didn't work. After
having found the desktop file in /usr/ share/applications/ I copied it
to my Applications folder. Nautilus then told me something about an
untrusted launcher.

To use an application launcher with the extension .desktop I have to
set the POSIX executable bit on it but it is not a valid executable.

Example: I try to run it from the command line because it is executable
because of the misuse of the flags and I will see the following.

mt@nPong:~$ Applications/inkscape.desktop
Applications/inkscape.desktop: line 1: [Desktop: command not found
Applications/inkscape.desktop: line 4: Graphics: command not found
Applications/inkscape.desktop: line 5: X-GNOME-FullName=Inkscape: command not
found
Applications/inkscape.desktop: line 6: and: command not found
Applications/inkscape.desktop: line 8: VectorGraphics: command not found
Applications/inkscape.desktop: line 8: GTK: command not found
Applications/inkscape.desktop: line 9: image/svg+xml-compressed: No such file
or directory
Applications/inkscape.desktop: line 9: application/vnd.corel-draw: No such file
or directory
Applications/inkscape.desktop: line 9: image/x-eps: No such file or directory
Applications/inkscape.desktop: line 9: application/illustrator: No such file or
directory
Applications/inkscape.desktop: line 10: fg: no job control
Applications/inkscape.desktop: line 15: X-Ayatana-Desktop-Shortcuts=Drawing:
command not found
Applications/inkscape.desktop: line 16: X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain=inkscape:
command not found
Applications/inkscape.desktop: line 18: [Drawing: command not found
Applications/inkscape.desktop: line 19: Drawing: command not found

That's freedesktop on POSIX: incompatible. Both are a bit of bloated
system structure and I am not completely against freedesktop.org and its
so called standards but in this case things have to be changed, please.

My favourite of statically linked or all in one application bundles
might be a burden for Debian's infrastructure but I like Apache's
OpenOffice.org sitting silently in /opt/openoffice4

To make dot-desktop launcher files POSIX compatible one might want to
introduce a new shell and make each dot-desktop file start with

#!/usr/bin/desktop-shell

Nautilus already opens faithfully file system locations when called from
the command line and handles regular dot-desktop launcher files anyway.
Thus my proposal should be easy to implement. It might be enough to
introduce nautilus -launch app and create a preliminary standard for
the desktop-shell command.

[Bug 971051] Re: No Alt+Tab in gnome classic session (switcher plugin not loaded)

2015-06-16 Thread dronus
The solution to this bug should be made in gnome-session package source
I guess, which builds the gnome-session-fallback package.

If it sports the compiz-dependent session, it should depend on compiz,
and on compiz-plugins which is currently missing but needed to provide
'switcher' or 'static switcher'. Also switcher must be enabled by
default in some way (gconf config files I guess).

[Bug 1465647] [NEW] GNOME classic session using Compiz does not switch windows on Alt+TAB

2015-06-16 Thread dronus
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 12.04, the GNOME Classic session based on Compiz does not
provide the Alt-TAB window switching. The 'no effects' session (based on
metacity) however does.

The reason is that the Compiz used does not include the Compiz
'switcher' plugin. It is contained in the compiz-plugins package, which
is not installed.

Should be fixed cleanly: The package gnome-session-fallback should not
provide a session that depends on compiz, without providing compiz and
the compiz-plugins package. And maybe a script that add 'switcher' to
the default enabled plugins (seems to be using the gconf backend, so it
just need to bring an additional gconf file I guess) is needed.

If gnome-session-fallback should not depend on compiz, the Classic
session using compiz may move to a new package, and this one only
contains 'no effect' variant then.

This is actually a variant of bug #971051 which is filed against compiz,
which is wrong I guess, as it is not a problem of compiz itself, but
rather its configuration in the gnome fallback package.

the same problem ...

looks like Evolution is on it's way out !!

Thunderbird is already being chosen as the default email program for

[Bug 1465806] [NEW] Alarms not shown in indicator datetime after upgrade to ota4

2015-06-16 Thread Dave Morley
Public bug reported:

STEPS:
1. Flash image 22 from stable
2. Set a one time alarm and a recurring alarm
3. Update to 23

EXPECTED:
Alarms should be up and running as expected

ACTUAL:
Alarms are not shown in the datetime indicator but show up as active in and
available in the clock. Because the indicator is in control of the alarm
trigger the alarm never goes off.

TEMPORARY WORK AROUND:
Disable and enable all your alarms and then they work as expected.

[Bug 1462664] Re: [Ubuntu Phone] With WIFI = ON the GPS stops

2015-06-16 Thread Kuroen
Hi All,

Today I started driving with the following services on:
1. WIFI
2. GPS
3. Data connection (SIM)
4. Location detection

After a few km I got a freeze. The map no longer scrolled an the blue
arrow did not move over the map.

I stopped the navigation and waited for a minute before restarting it.
Before I restarted it I switched off the Location detection. After this I had
no problems driving for over 70 km. At this time I started the Location
detection again and then it froze after a few km.

So I agree with Olivier Tilloy. It looks like a bug in the location-
service.

Hope this helps.

[Bug 1462664] Re: [Ubuntu Phone] WIFI = ON is killing GPS signal

2015-06-16 Thread costales
** Summary changed:

- Geolocation app is freezing in a few mobiles
+ [Ubuntu Phone] WIFI = ON is killing GPS signal

** Summary changed:

- [Ubuntu Phone] WIFI = ON is killing GPS signal
+ [Ubuntu Phone] With WIFI = ON the GPS stops

** Description changed:

  Hi!

- With the app GPS Navigation a few users have problem with a freeze
- issue, because of 100% CPU usage or heavy swap usage (I don't know,
- because I can't reproduce it.
+ Steps:
+ 1. Enable WIFI = ON on phone.
+ 2. Run one of these apps: GPS Navigation, HERE maps, Sensor Status.
+ 3. Drive.
+ 4. When you'll be into a WIFI area as a town or city, I'm thinking the WIFI
will try to search WIFIs and then the GPS will stop, the GPS apps will not
receive more new positions from the GPS.

- For some users, it is working perfect, for other is freezing after a few
minutes. You can see here the user reviews:
+ Extra info1: If you had GPS Navigation Sensor running, both of them
+ will not receive new GPS positions from the device. If you restart for
+ example GPS Navigation, GPS Navigation will receive new positions, but
+ Sensor Status not, until you restart it too.

- The code is here:
-
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~costales/unav/trunk/view/head:/www/js/geolocation.js
- It's just a simple HTML5 geolocation code. Even I added a reject control for
more that 1 request by 800 microseconds.
-
- I think it could be the GPS doing a lot of request by second or the web
- container is freezing waiting for GPS.
+ Extra info2: When the GPS stops the icon in the status disappears, but
+ it you kill and relaunch the app, the icon will appear again.

  Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1462664] Re: [Ubuntu Phone] With WIFI = ON the GPS stops

2015-06-16 Thread Sergi Quiles Pérez
I have done a these tests:

   * Data OFF, Wifi OFF: It works perfectly without updating the map
   nor the route.

   * Data ON, Wifi OFF: It works perfectly updating the map and route
  if you have coverage.

   * Data ON, Wifi ON: It works well until you reach a zone with many wifi
networks when the car freezes. The map
and route update until it fails.

   * Data OFF, Wifi ON: It works well until you reach a zone with many wifi
networks when the car freezes. The map
 and route don't update.

In conclusion:
With wifi ON it fails sometimes and with wifi OFF it works always,
and it doesn't depend on if data is ON or OFF.

I think GPS in Ubuntu Touch fails when it has to manage many wifi
networks, not a few.

[Bug 1224732] Re: Custom keyboard shortcuts don't work

2015-06-16 Thread bitinerant
Update to comment #66: Turning ccsm Commands off (comment #63) was not
a permanent fix for me. All my shortcuts died again today. Turning
Commands on and then back off restored my shortcuts for now (no log-out
required), although last time I did this on two separate machines, they
both crashed within a day--not sure if there is a connection.

[Bug 1465573] [NEW] Nautilus starts with hidden files shown every time it starts

2015-06-16 Thread BeowulfOF
Public bug reported:

beowulf:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 15.04
Release:15.04
beowulf:~$ apt-cache policy nautilus
nautilus:
  Installiert: 1:3.14.2-0ubuntu9

  Versionstabelle:
 *** 1:3.14.2-0ubuntu9 0
500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ vivid/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I'd expect nautlius to open and show only normal files.

Nautilus starts up and shows all files, even hidden ones. I have to
disable that by pressing CTRL+h but the next time nautilus starts, it
shows the hidden files again.
