[Bug 1486558] [NEW] User accounts login history showing incorrect history in Gnome 3.16

2015-08-19 Thread The Unknown
Public bug reported:

I am running Ubuntu Gnome 15.04, with Gnome Shell, and Gnome 3.16, and
since I upgraded to 3.16 from 3.14 (as the issue didn't appear to be
present when running 3.14, although perhaps it was just a matter of
time, and not the version of Gnome that I had) I have noticed the same
issue as I reported here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/unity-control-center/+bug/1443052

The issue being that if I go to Settings Users and clicking the
History button, it will show you when you last logged in as Session
Started, but it will show that you Session Ended just before you
login the next time. So to clarify what I mean, let's say that yesterday
I logged into my account on this machine at 14:29, and then sometime
near 23:00 I logged out, and then this morning I logged into my account
somewhere around 11:20, it will show this:

Today 11:20 Session Started
Today 11:19 Session Ended
Yesterday, 14:29 Session Started

So it assumes that the last session ended when you log into a new one,
so the bug seems to be that it does not log when a session ends
properly, and only logs it when a new session starts.

I provided a lot more information here when asking about it in Unity:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/629373/user-account-history-showing-
incorrectly And although that was Unity and this is Gnome, I think that
the information will still help.

I have also attached a screenshot of what I mean just to fully clarify
(Login_History_Incorrect.png).

[Bug 1486695] [NEW] copy dialog gone ninja

2015-08-19 Thread anatoly techtonik
Public bug reported:

This is almost the same as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1399077 - during
long copy I closed all other nautilus windows, except the copy dialog.
Now I can't switch back to it. Icon shows that there is some progress,
alt-tab shows an icon, but alt-tabbing doesn't work. Clicking on panel
just bring up nautilus with Home folder, Show Copy Dialog does nothing.

wmctrl does nothing.

$ wmctrl -l
0x026266a5 0 PCO File Operations
0x026a 0 PCO Desktop
...
$ wmctrl -R File Operations -v
envir_utf8: 1
Using window: 0x026266a5

There were several mistakes during copy, so my bet is that the progress
dialog is blocked by some other window.

2015-08-19 Thread Brian Menges
I purged gnome-settings-daemon, which also purged gnome-control-center.

This is how I get my mouse back now:
1. Log in
2. Open terminal
3. sleep 85 gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.cursor active
false
4. Log out
5. Verify mouse appears now (movement on login page)
6. Log in
7. Problem resolved

[Bug 1390628] Re: Mouse pointer invisible after upgrade to Ubuntu 14.10 and 15.04

2015-08-19 Thread Brian Menges
I'm running on an Intel NUC NUC5i7RYH with boot disk as SM-951 NVMe
(MZVPV512HDGL) and secondary disk Samsung Evo 850.

I fresh installed 14.04.3 LTS and experience this problem.

Solutions, such as the following, don't predictably work for me:
* exec unity-settings-daemon
* sudo gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.cursor active false
* sudo modprobe -r psmouse ; sudo modprobe psmouse

I have the following packages installed related to what's mentioned in this bug:
ii gnome-settings-daemon 3.8.6.1-0ubuntu11.2
  amd64daemon handling the GNOME session
settings
ii ubuntu-settings 14.04.5
all default settings for the Ubuntu
desktop
ii unity-settings-daemon
14.04.0+14.04.20140606-0ubuntu3 amd64daemon
handling the Unity session settings

Recovering the mouse is employing one or all of the above (the gsettings
often being what appears to work MOST times) after about a minute of
login time, then logging out and moving the mouse - ensuring it appears
before I log in. Of note, what I know works best, is waiting for a
while, running one or all of the above commands, and then logging out
and back in.

Every boot, 100% of the time, I have no visible mouse however something
is tracking mouse movement as I can go between monitors and the login
prompt moves between windows.

I'm using unity/gnome. Using gnome classic has not changed the results.

This is highly frustrating.

[Bug 1280867] Re: nautilus segfaults in compare_by_display_name()

2015-08-19 Thread Doug Brown
I'm also running into a segfault in compare_by_display_name(). A little
more info on a use case that can cause the issue:

I'm trying to browse the Windows network in nautilus. I go to
Places-Network and go into the Windows Network directory. All the
workgroups on the local network appear, and I try to enter one of them.
At this point nautilus hangs for a while and/or crashes in
compare_by_display_name().

If I run smbtree -N in the terminal, I see a bunch of servers and
clients in the offending workgroup. Normal Ubuntu clients (not set up
for serving) tend to appear as well. If one of the Ubuntu clients has a
hostname that is too long to be automatically converted to a NetBIOS
name, it shows up in the smbtree -N output with a blank NetBIOS name.
Example:

\\ really-long-name-of-computer server (Samba,
Ubuntu)

This blank name is what causes this bug in nautilus. If I go into the
offending machines and give them a custom short NetBIOS name in
/etc/samba/smb.conf, and restart nmbd on them, the problem goes away and
I can browse the Windows network just fine. Perhaps
compare_by_display_name() is not handling a NULL or empty string
correctly? Either way, it looks like nmbd is auto-generating an empty
name, so I would argue that it has a bug that is indirectly causing this
bug at the same time.

[Bug 1038590] Re: Nautilus does not work with SMB Samba shares

2015-08-19 Thread Ivan Larionov
@f92x have you tried utopic or vivid?

This bug was affecting access to both OS X and Time Capsule because of
Apple's implementation of samba. And it was fixed for OS X at least. I
can't test with TC because I don't have it, but I believe it should be
fixed for TC as well.

[Bug 1486494] [NEW] gnome-control-center does not come with a .desktop file so cannot be pinned to dock without the manual creation of a .desktop file for it

2015-08-19 Thread The Unknown
Public bug reported:

As the gnome-control-center does not come with a .desktop file, this
means that when trying to pin it to dock (as I use Docky, however this
would be the same with any docking program) you find that you are unable
to unless you manually create a .desktop file for it either in
/usr/share/applications or ~/.local/share/applications. So it would
be really useful if it could come with a .desktop file so that these
manual changes don't have to be made. I am running Ubuntu Gnome 15.04,
with Gnome Shell, and Gnome 3.16.
