[Bug 1208993] Re: Ubuntu slows down and hangs while copying file from/to USB

2015-12-22 Thread Emmanouel Kapernaros
Hello, today I experienced this problem for the first time. The only
change on my laptop was the addition of 4GB RAM stick. Now I have 8GB
total. I changed /etc/sysctl.conf as mentioned above ant the problem is
solved.

[Bug 1528655] [NEW] Wily/15.10 - systemd hangs reboot + shutdown for long periods of time

2015-12-22 Thread David Favor
Public bug reported:

Yet another horrible bug related to systemd which delays shutdowns by
minutes.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-tools/+bug/1374759
surfaces this problem + the bug I'm reporting here is a separate issue.

Neither reboot or shutdown -r now work sensibly any more. Both rely on
systemd, which appears to be the root of most Ubuntu instabilities now,
reading the many reported systemd bugs.

Both the reboot + shutdown -r now commands should do what the mean.
Shutdown + Reboot now...

Not 150-250 seconds after requested, which appears to be some arbitrary
systemd timeout.

Please fix this problem + update this ticket with some workaround to get
an instant reboot, till fix is available.

Thanks.

[Bug 1283871] Re: Default mount points not suitable for photo import

2015-12-22 Thread John McAleely
". It just so happens it's only one of the few "well-known directories"
that Shotwell defines."

I'm surprised at this assumption. DCIM (and filename rules) are part of
now-ancient standards for digital cameras:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Design_rule_for_Camera_File_system

Mobile phones with cameras have by long convention also offered this
filesystem layout. My current iOS 9 device still does this, for example.

This is nothing to do with Shotwell's preferences.

[Bug 1528728] [NEW] gnome-terminal starts up at 79×23 instead of 80×24

2015-12-22 Thread Anders Kaseorg
Public bug reported:

Starting gnome-terminal results in a 79×23 window instead of the
standard 80×24, at least in Ubuntu Gnome with the default Adwaita theme
on a high-DPI laptop. This makes it irritating to use some applications
designed for an 80-column terminal.

According to an upstream bug report
(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=750559), the problem is
caused by the Ubuntu patch debian/patches/0001-Add-the-style-context-
provider-with-FALLBACK-priorit.patch, which was reverted upstream
(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=740123#c6) and in Debian
(https://bugs.debian.org/787104) for this reason. A new version of this
patch (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=740123#c9) fixes the
problem for me.
