Unzip out-of-the-box (compiled from sources) does not choose filenames encoding correctly. Developers from Ark say me, that the error is completely from info-zip project (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=204984). There are sime patches to info-zip's unzip package, that makes unzip extract filenames with correct encoding. But maintainers of info-zip project rejected these patches (http://www.info- zip.org/board/board.pl?m-1248086794). It would be nice to include this package in main openSuSE distribution. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create zip-archive, containing files with cyrillic names under Windows. 2. Try to open it with unzip under SuSE Actual Results: Filename encoding is incorrect. Example: pavel@pavel:~/tmp> unzip ReportPacket_DBV90821CJ.zip Archive: ReportPacket_DBV90821CJ.zip inflating: ? This game uses a canvas with some items, and those aren't updated correctly. Forcing a redraw by switching screens, or moving a window over them fixes this, but that's an unplayable state. The fact is, it doesn't happen with upstream libgnomecanvas nor does it happen if I prevent libgnomecanvas-no-tearing.diff from applying to the libgnomecanvas-2.20.1.1-42.1, thus there is either a problem in your patch, or a problem in teg. May I ask you kindly for a fix (either way). I've attached the source rpm of the problematic package. The applied patches just change/add some shortcuts and a minor different default play mode.. BTW: I already tried to fix teg in some way, by sprinkle gnome_canvas_update_now() calls to various (random) places, but all I harvested was worser behavior. [Bug 1571138] [NEW] gnome-terminal resizes to entire desktop when un-maximised
Public bug reported: Start a gnome-terminal (it should start windowed, 80x24), then maximise it (by double clicking the title bar, clicking the maximise button, etc.); its title bar disappears and it is now correctly maximised. Now un-maximise the terminal (same way as before). It briefly flashes down to its former size and position, then instantly resizes to take up the entire desktop. So it looks like when it was maximised, except its title bar is still visible. Re-maximising and un-maximising from this state doesn't return the previous dimensions; the gnome-terminal has forgotten its original size. [Bug 1368647] Re: GPS and location detection not working on Nexus 4
Yay, it works finally!:) (Almost) I tried all kinds of posibilities many times, and it works only then: 1. Flashing bq-aquaris.en channel 2. Turn on GPS with Nokia HERE setting. 3. Restart. Tests show, that it works independent of radio version, it can be old or new, does not matter (It always works if 1-2-3 above is done on any channel, and don't work if the opposite). It matters to have /bq-aquaris.en channel installed, because I could not find Nokia HERE setting on '/ubuntu' channel.. Tested with SensorsStatus app and uNAV app, it works. But "sudo test_gps" command only shows empty values... and two "unkown error" at the start. If I disable wi-fi and enable flight mode, gps still recognizes location correctly, so this means that GPS itself must be working. Tried to drive with my finally working GPS today, but signal was very unstable, map choppy, unav was not knowing the direction and all kinds of other problem - mostly loosing signal. I could reacuire signal only by switching apps SensorsStatus -> uNAV, and visa versa, this way signal always reappears but only if I switch those apps, and after a minute, lost again. I'll test more later (weeks). But glad it works just a bit, some more steps and it might be working well! :) Now the questions are why is does not know direction (compass etc.), why test_gps does not work, why maps are so choppy (not smooth) and what causes signal to always dissapear untill I swith apps. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to location-service in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1368647 Title: GPS and location detection not working on Nexus 4 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/location-service/+bug/1368647/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Exactly, it seems that after fixing all apt-get update related problems and rebooting, I don't get this prompt anymore. I wasn't sure at first that the new software center was related to apt. I also had a problem with our proxy (apt-cacher-ng) which I had to upgrade from 0.8 to 0.9.1 (backport) on our Debian Jessie proxy server. I still get warnings but not failure about signing keys which I'll fix for our repo but Google's own seems to be problematic too. I tested the wip/test-3-18 branch and got the following bug: At some point (when I was switching windows?) the screen became completely black, and only when the windows repainted themselves they started to become visible. I.e. first the window after the mouse became again visible, then when I pressed Alt-Tab, the other window became visible, then the clock on the panel (because the minute changed), etc. Unfortunately I was not able to take a screenshot. [Bug 1566157] Re: Metacity's compositing is too slow
Alberts, I'm sorry, the (new) client that I tested with is giving me very inconsistent results, even by just rebooting it, and I'm not going to use it in benchmarks again in the future. It's a 3-year-old AMD-based laptop; maybe the problem is in the radeon driver or in its power states, anyway, please ignore my results in comment #11. I tested again with the client from comment #7 (an old intel 8xx based laptop), and I reproduced what you said, i.e. that your patches indeed made metacity fast again: no-wm: 481.234 compiz: 473.248 xenial-metacity --no-composite: 294.148 xenial-metacity --composite: 177.516 fixed-metacity --no-composite: 470.791 fixed-metacity --composite: 283.285 marco --no-composite: 471.382 marco --composite: 286.939 xcompmgr: 291.370 I also confirmed the performance increase in the i5 desktop from comment #5. @Alberts, thank you very much, you're awesome! @Dmitry, could we please get those patches in Xenial? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1566157 Title: Metacity's compositing is too slow To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/1566157/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Bug 1570752] [NEW] Two "terminal" menus with duplicates
Public bug reported: 1)In Ubuntu 16.04 Unity 64 bits, 2)with Gnome Terminal 3.18.3, 3) there should be only one "terminal" dropdown menu (the one on the right) 4) there are two terminal dropdown menus, and the one on the left is totally useless since it contains duplicates entries from other menus, like I listed below: - New terminal : like in File -> Open a terminal - Preferences : like in Edit -> Preferences - Help : like in Help -> Summary - About : like in Help -> About - Exit : like in File -> Close all terminal The solution would be to suppress this menu since all the entries inside are already somewhere else. Note : Since my Ubuntu is in french, some menus name may not be exactly matching the one you have, but it should not be a real problem for your understanding of the situation. ** Affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1570752 Title: Two "terminal" menus with duplicates To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1570752/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1570479] Re: [UIFe][FFe] Change application Name etc to Ubuntu Software
FWIW, I mostly agree with #4 and #5, but if this is to go ahead then I concur with Steve that SRU is more appropriate. There will most definitely be further updates for gnome-software before 16.04.1; the string change can go in before then. This gives time to both translators and the documentation team (and documentation translators, for that matter). Suggest part of SRU verification ought to be to make sure that the desktop docs are updated at the same time. There are other places where the program is referred to as "Software" or "GNOME Software" in strings; should those all be changed too? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-software in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1570479 Title: [UIFe][FFe] Change application Name etc to Ubuntu Software To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/+bug/1570479/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1570533] Re: wrong character width with Ubuntu Mono and replacement fonts in gnome-terminal:
The character width (single vs. double cell) is not defined by the font. Instead, it is defined by the Unicode database and the matching locale definitions. Some characters are of ambiguous width. They occupy a single cell by default, but gnome-terminal can be configured so that they occupy two cells. In your particular example the three arrows (the triangle and two "normal" arrows) are of this kind. Note however that there's no matching locale on Linux systems, so fullscreen applications are expected to fall apart if you do this. (See also https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=749414.) To enable this, launch gnome-terminal with the VTE_CJK_WIDTH=1 environment variable. In newer gnome-terminal versions this has been moved to a profile preference under the Compatibility tab. As far as the other symbols (e.g. flag) are concerned, they are apparenty wider in your font than the rest of the symbols, hence the font is lying about being monospace. Maybe gnome-terminal (vte, actually) could do a better job in fitting these symbols in the cell, but maybe that'd do more harm than good, I don't know. ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #749414 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=749414 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1570533 Title: wrong character width with Ubuntu Mono and replacement fonts in gnome- terminal: To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1570533/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1570701] [NEW] suspend on critical battery state can be prevented by applications
Public bug reported: Some applications prevent the computer from going to suspend mode (applications that display video, eg. chromium, opera, openshot) because they assume it is in the user's interest to keep the screen on even when inactive. This is most times helpful and saves the user from having to move a finger. But on low battery power, the user's inactivity could also be due to absence or sleep, and keeping the computer on until the power is 0.000% causes more damage than it serves the user's interest: - battery drain over time - data loss We can not rely on that every application implements sophisticated power management in the user's interest and has no malicious intentions. It is crucial that the operating system still reserves to have the last word in resource and power management. Steps to reproduce: 1. Watch a video in Opera (36) in full screen 2. Fall asleep 3. After some hours, the computer is either still on (with battery <3%) or already off Expected behavior: When not connected to an external power source and battery has low power (<30%), the usual procedure for suspend is still applied: 1. Notification on inactivity 2. Suspend There may be a way to configure this manually, but I think due to the implications of hardware drain and data loss Ubuntu should come with a reasonable default that serves the interests of general, unconscious users.
