[Bug 1594658] [NEW] diskless setup with nfs mounted home hangs on shutdown/reboot

2016-06-20 Thread Sergey Frolov
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 16.04 fresh install hangs when shutting down.
The system is diskless PXE-booted with a couple of nfs mounted directories
including homedir.

As I have no persistent storage whatsoever, I don't have any logs, but
in debug-shell, running journalctl -f I can see that it hangs at

[ *] (1 of 2) A stop job running for Raise Network Interfaces (10s / 1min
30s)Jun 20 20:23:05 $hostname kernel: nfs: server $nfs-ip-address not

still trying
Jun 20 20:24:08 $hostname kernel: nfs: server $nfs-ip-address not responding,
still trying

Second job in "(1 of 2)" is thermald, turning it off does not fix the problem.
Also, this counter "(10s / 1min 30s)" stops visually updating.

server $nfs-ip-address is not responding, because, all network
interfaces are already down at this point.

I am not exactly sure why this happens. Looks like there is a wrong
ordering of shutdown of systemd services, which bring down interfaces
before something nfs-related, but I am not sure if that's the reason of
hanging.

Workaround that fixes the problem:
In /lib/systemd/system/networking.service
comment following line:
ExecStop=/sbin/ifdown -a --read-environment

[Bug 1594641] [NEW] removing swap partition does not remove entry from /etc/fstab

2016-06-20 Thread Donald Pellegrino
Public bug reported:

I used gnome-disk-utility to deactivate the swap partition. I then used
it to delete the swap partition. Both operations seem to have worked in
gnome-disk-utility however it is not clear that the free space size
increased correspondingly. The entry for the swap partition in
/etc/fstab remained and still pointed to the partition that was deleted
in gnome-disk-utility.

The expected behavior is that when a swap partition is deleted in gnome-
disk-utility the corresponding /etc/fstab entry should also be removed.

[Bug 1594634] [NEW] ZFS on iscsi target fails at boot/shutdown

2016-06-20 Thread Rob
Public bug reported:

I've got a ZFS volume on an ISCSI target, once the system boots I can
bring it online.

My ISCSI target shows up as:

root@test:/home/rob# lsblk
NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT
sda 8:00 8.1T 0 disk

root@test:/home/rob# zpool status
  pool: data2
 state: ONLINE
  scan: none requested
config:

NAMESTATE READ WRITE CKSUM
data2 ONLINE 0 0 0
  sda ONLINE 0 0 0

errors: No known data errors

root@test:/home/rob# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
--- snip --
data2 3.1T 0 3.1T 0% /data2
data2/backup3.2T 165G 3.1T 6% /data2/backup
data2/test 7.7T 4.7T 3.1T 61% /data2/test

However in the case of a system shutdown/reboot the system tries to
unmount the disk after the network has been brought down which obviously
fails.

When booting the system the zpool never gets imported as the 'zfs-
import-cache.service' runs before the iscsi target is initiated.

This bug makes organizing files with Nautilus on Ubuntu 16.04
irritating.

It's been 2 years since the original bug report.

Can somebody please look into this? Pretty please with sugar on top!

If this behavior is considered a feature by the Nautilus team, then at
least give us an option in the settings to set a time delay before the
folders open on hover.

[Bug 1589585] Re: Ubuntu Software tab Installed refreshing endlessly every 2 seconds

2016-06-20 Thread grofaty
At #26, I have updated "sudo apt get update && sudo apt full-upgrade -f"
Ubuntu from official repository (according to fuwpd/audio bug report,
fix was moved out of proposed) and fwupd update was upgraded in my case.
I restarted computer and audio problem still persists. OK, this is
another problem I will need to solve in the near future and it looks
like not related to current bug report.

At #26, I tried to get help from Lenovo forum how to disable "figerprint
reader" and first attempt was not successful. I asked for additional
explanation. Hope there is some BIOS setting to turn it of.

[Bug 1594424] [NEW] Evince window spans several monitors

2016-06-20 Thread gpothier
Public bug reported:

When opening some PDF files, the Evince window sometimes span several monitors.
I have a vertical two-monitor setup (one monitor above the other). The primary
monitor is on top and is external, while the other one (below) is the laptop's
panel.
In some cases, when opening a PDF, the Evince window is taller than a single
monitor, sometimes spanning the full height of both monitors, sometime
something in-between. If I resize the window, close the file, and open it
again, Evince remembers its last size and position.

Evince is the only application affected by this problem on my system.

It seems to be related to these bug reports:

[Bug 1589585] Re: Ubuntu Software tab Installed refreshing endlessly every 2 seconds

2016-06-20 Thread Mario Limonciello
What @grofaty was seeing was that his gnome-software was refreshing
constantly. He didn't say any warnings were emitted other than when he
ran fwupd in verbose mode.

If a user disconnected/reconnected a device gnome-software will refresh,
yes. But as mentioned in https://github.com/hughsie/fwupd/issues/48
that's the behavior of gnome-software 3.20.x. Moving to g-s 3.21 and
fwupd >= 0.7.1 will prevent that, but won't fix the underlying problem
that @grofaty is encountering with a USB device that's dropping on and
off the bus.

Fwiw, the snapd part of this bug (that is now in fix-commited state) is

just to be clear. The snapd change does not add the button but with the
snapd change now gnome-software has all the information to add the

[Bug 1589585] Re: Ubuntu Software tab Installed refreshing endlessly every 2 seconds

2016-06-20 Thread Mario Limonciello
@seb128:
Although he mentions audio and that other issue mentions audio I don't believe
them to be the same issue. Specifically that issue deals with USB Audio
devices that contain a DFU endpoint. He doesn't have a USB audio device
contained here.

@grofaty:
As long as you followed the steps properly and fwupd wasn't running when you
collected the second dmesg (dmesg_2.txt) to me it looks like there is a
hardware or kernel issue with your machine causing the USB device to drop off
the bus continually. Since not caused by fwupd, there's not much fwupd can do
in this instance. It is reporting new USB devices just like the kernel is
(which is causing it to check for updates every time a new device is reported).

This is exacerbated by the fact that the combination of gnome-software 3.20.x
and fwupd 0.7.0 will check for updates every time a USB device is hotplugged.
More information about that is here:
https://github.com/hughsie/fwupd/issues/48

In order to resolve that, Ubuntu would need to move to gnome-software >=
3.21.0 and fwupd >= 0.7.1.

[Bug 1409032] Re: gvfsd-smb: very high CPU utilisation

2016-06-20 Thread cogset
I think I may have the same issue in Trusty, possibly even worse: the
gvfsd-smb process would randomly start and totally max out the CPU for
no apparent reason - the thing is, not only I don't use samba at all, I
have actually *purged* all samba packages from this system.

I really can't see how this process, which should be spawned by samba,
should even start at all (let alone load the CPU to its max) when samba
isn't even installed any more in my system.

This being an old laptop which easily overheats, after getting nowhere
trying to figure out why gvfsd-smb does this, I've resolved to remove
the executable bit from gvfsd-smb and gvfsd-dnssd (which also starts
for no apparent reason) and finally got rid of this big issue.

But nonetheless I believe that such an annoying (and potentially
harmful) long-standing bug should be properly investigated and fixed
once and for all.

unsure if that fixes the issue but it is shipped upstream/in other
distributions, has been tested there and doesn't create regressions in
ubuntu so let's set it as verified

what you describe with audio seems like the bug that SRU is trying to resolve
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fwupd/0.7.0-0ubuntu4.2

could you try if the update helps for your issue?

[Bug 1590838] Re: scheduled shutdown -r does not work without dbus in xenial LXC container

Adding a landscape-client task. I suggest to add a libpam-systemd
dependency to landscape-client to ensure that scheduled shutdown works.
