[Bug 1178272] Re: Without pulseaudio, banshee and rhythmbox report "jack server is not running or cannot be started" and do not play

2016-08-20 Thread gmorehou
This is still a problem in Lubuntu 16.04. gstreamer1.0-pulseaudio is
installed by default (presumably following Ubuntu), gstreamer1.0-alsa is
not.

'sudo apt install gstreamer1.0-alsa' fixes the problem. Gstreamer apps
such as banshee now output audio instead of silence.

I will file a bug against lubuntu-desktop and reference this bug.

** Also affects: gstreamer1.0 (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Summary changed:

- Without pulseaudio, banshee and rhythmbox report "jack server is not running
or cannot be started" and do not play
+ Lubuntu: banshee, rhythmbox, etc cannot play audio without pulseaudio or
gstreamer1.0-alsa

[Bug 1615314] [NEW] It struggles to start

2016-08-20 Thread el_gallo_azul
Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System
-> About Ubuntu

Description:Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS
Release:14.04

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
pkgname' or by checking in Software Center

rhythmbox:
  Installed: 3.0.2-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 3.0.2-0ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 3.0.2-0ubuntu2 0
500 http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/ubuntu/ubuntu/
trusty-updates/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 3.0.2-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/ubuntu/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64
Packages

3) What you expected to happen

The application starts easily and quickly

4) What happened instead

4.1 As soon as starting the app, the screen greys out, as if running low
on system resources. I can now rule that possibility out, because I had
only just booted, I had not started any other applications, and this
computer has LOADS of memory and LOADS of processing power. This
'greying out' lasts for about 30 seconds or so, and I cannot use the
application at all during this time.

4.2 Also right near the end of this 'greying out' time, an error message
appears, saying "The application Rhythmbox has closed unexpectedly",
despite the fact that the application Rhythmbox HAS NOT closed. I attach
a screenshot of the message.

This bug has been occurring for more than a year, and occurs EVERY TIME
that I start the application.

[Bug 1614050] Re: Window depth order messed up

2016-08-20 Thread dronus
I finally was able to reproduce it. Turns out it happens only once after
system startup, if I log out of the session and log in again, the bug is
gone.

Steps to reproduce:
-Make sure no desktop file manager runs in the session (eg. remove it from the
session / xdg autostart locations)
-Start a gnome-flashback no effects session (Metacity)
-Wait for the desktop (appears empty due to no file manager)
-Run the 'nemo' file manager, set to overtake the desktop too
-The file window appears, the desktop icons too, but the are in front of the
window.
-Close the window, the desktop appears to be normal
-Open any other application, it appears behind the icons again.
-Log out from the session
-Start a gnome-flashback no effects session again
-all is fine now.

[Bug 1615184] Re: screen lock and dpms broken in yakkety

2016-08-20 Thread Rocko
Luckily I had a snapshot from earlier. Bisecting upgrades shows that the
problem is in one of these packages:

libpam-systemd/yakkety 231-4 amd64 [upgradable from: 231-1]
libsystemd-dev/yakkety 231-4 amd64 [upgradable from: 231-1]
libsystemd0/yakkety 231-4 amd64 [upgradable from: 231-1]
systemd/yakkety 231-4 amd64 [upgradable from: 231-1]
systemd-sysv/yakkety 231-4 amd64 [upgradable from: 231-1]

With these packages installed, I have:

* Screen lock/dpms is broken

* A lot of startup programs don't run (weather indicator, nm-applet,
tomboy notes, system load indicator, for instance)

* I get a black screen background at startup (until I run nautilus
manually).

** Package changed: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) => systemd (Ubuntu)

** Summary changed:

- screen lock and dpms broken in yakkety
+ systemd update breaks screen lock, dpms, startup programs

[Bug 1573408] Re: GNOME Software does not install third-party .deb packages

2016-08-20 Thread draxbear
@Will Cooke, Had quite a few changes since last post, especially the
move from Nouveau to Nvidia 361.42. I've finally ran into another 3rd
party DEB file (steam client) I could use to retest this and it ran ok!
Hopefully that's the last of this problem, but if I run across it again
on another DEB I'll post something here. Thanks again for your time and
attention.
