[Bug 1208993] Re: Ubuntu slows down and hangs while copying file from/to USB

2017-02-25 Thread Warick Muter
As an added note: this not just an issue with nautilus. I've experienced
the same issue with thunar on Xubuntu 16.04 and kernel 4.4.0.64-generic.

[Bug 1667992] [NEW] ctrl-c sometimes causes wayland session to exit

2017-02-25 Thread Nelson Crosby
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 16.10; gnome-session 3.20.2-1ubuntu7; Gnome on Wayland.
Ctrl-C should copy text; sometimes instead kills Gnome session.

Sometimes, when I try to copy, I get logged out (presumably due to this
combination being interpreted as SIGINT by Gnome).

Unfortunately, I'm having trouble reliably reproducing this bug. It
doesn't seem to happen if one copy has been done already (can't confirm
though), however I can successfully copy immediately after logging in
again. Even then, though, it doesn't always happen after first login,
and many days it never happens at all.

I don't even know if it happens when any application is focused (mostly
because I only really use Chrome and the terminal in day-to-day
operation), though I note that it's never happened when I've used that
combination to interrupt another program under Gnome Terminal (not to
say it can't happen though, I don't do that very often).

Due to the difficulty in reproducing, I've yet to determine if it's even
specifically a part of this package (though it seems a good place to
start).

I'll try remember to provide updates if I notice any other behaviour.

** Affects: gnome-session (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1577927] Re: After upgrade, can no longer set tab titles

2017-02-25 Thread Erik B. Andersen
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=740188  Seems to be the
related bug. It sounds like this was added back in (possibly)? So maybe
we'll see the feature come backup in Y or Z? (I know, having to upgrade
just to get the features you used to have is a pain.)

On 16.04 it seems to work to install mate-terminal, which is very
similar, but has the old functionality.

2017-02-25 Thread yzp15
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1438014 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1438014

Seems to be error in gtk_cell_area_activate_cell: it has incorrect order of
actions which broke gtk_grab_add / gtk_grab_remove pair
https://github.com/GNOME/gtk/blob/6cc08d60efeb02afc0d67982c3dc205dfd16d7cd/gtk/gtkcellarea.c#L3388

3428 gtk_cell_renderer_start_editing (renderer,
This will call gtk_grab_add to register widget in default window group
"gtk_window_get_group (NULL);"

Later,
3444 gtk_cell_area_add_editable (area, priv->focus_cell, editable_widget,
cell_area);

will change widget to other window group (by setting parent
gtk_cell_area_activate_cell -> gtk_cell_area_add_editable -> ..signal..
->  gtk_tree_view_column_add_editable_callback ->
_gtk_tree_view_add_editable -> gtk_tree_view_put ->
gtk_widget_set_parent)

And gtk_grab_remove will be unable to remove link to the widget from the wrong
window group, creating stale pointer, which will be used after free.
More details at Bug #1667227.

Bug can be detected by "Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_widget_get_toplevel: assertion
'GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed" messages, when mate-terminal (bug #1667227) or
gnome-terminal are started from another console (with option --disable-factory)
and keyboard shortcuts are edited.
I have such messages with gtk+3 (upstream) versions 3.16.7, 3.18.9, 3.20.9,
3.22.8; valgrind can detect invalid reads (use after free) from
window_group_cleanup_grabs -> gtk_widget_get_toplevel.

Simple, but potentially incorrect patch corrects this bug (both Gtk-CRITICAL
messages and valgrind detections/SIGSEGVs) in gnome-terminal and mate-terminal
(bug #1667227). It is tested with gtk+3 3.16.7, 3.18.9, 3.20.9, 3.22.8.
Just call _gtk_window_group_remove_grab from gtkmain.c:gtk_grab_remove twice,
additional call with default window group, to clear all possible references to
the widget from the grabs list:

[Bug 1667227] Re: mate-terminal crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_is_a() - while editing Keyboard Shortcuts

2017-02-25 Thread yzp15
When shortcut is changing, keypress handler
gtk_cell_editable_event_box_key_press_event calls gtk_grab_remove, but
_gtk_window_group_remove_grab tries to remove grab from wrong window_group (not
the group used to add grab in gtk_grab_add -> _gtk_window_group_add_grab).
Grab remove fails and stale pointer is kept in grab lists of original group.
With valgrind I see errors on access with this stale pointer:

[Bug 1665602] Re: nautilus no thumbnails for .jpg and .png

2017-02-25 Thread corrado venturini
I don't had the problem with an old install from: Ubuntu 17.04 "Zesty Zapus" -
Alpha amd64 (20161106)
so I'm trying to give some more info.

I started with:

Ubuntu installed from: Ubuntu 17.04 "Zesty Zapus" - Alpha amd64 (20161106)
NEVER updated:
corrado@corrado-z-nov16:~$ uname -a
Linux corrado-z-nov16 4.10.0-8-generic #10-Ubuntu SMP Mon Feb 13 14:04:59 UTC
2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
corrado@corrado-z-nov16:~$

attached: BeforeUpdates: log .cache .config .local inxi screenshot
thumbnails where created ok - see screenshot

Then I Run apt-get update + upgrade

attached: After1stUpdate: installer Pictures .cache .config .gconf .local
varous logs
thumbnails created wrong. see last 2 thumbnails

I restarted, but ubuntu started in low graphic mode. Restarted in
emergency mode. Run update + upgrade + dist-upgrade. attached:
2ndUpgrade: varoius logs.

Restart again. now all seems ok BUT thumbnails are wrong.
attached: AfterLastUpgrade: a lot of data. thumbnails wrong for .jpg and .png.
Good thumbnail for .tiff

I still have a copy of the old iso: Ubuntu 17.04 "Zesty Zapus" - Alpha amd64
(20161106)
so I may reistall it and produce more doc.
Let my know if You need.
bye
