[Bug 1626893] Re: Spell check does not change misspelled words
May I add: I misspelled a few words, and as described above, clicking on the proper spelling did not change them, so I corrected them manually and that worked for all but one word: Imbecile. No matter what I did the red underline kept reappearing, even after I deleted it and typed it anew! The spell checking in Evolution has always been shaky like that: Highlighting correctly spelled words, whole rows of words, and the highlight remaining after correction. This problem is in addition to a few others, and the whole spell check system needs a closer look at. If This helps: I use both English and German, and have corrections for both no matter which language I am using at the time. Other programs have the document's language set somewhere and only spell check that language. It is required to switch languages in order to also switch the spell check to that language. I think having spell checkers in more than one language running at the same time may be a part of the problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1626893 Title: Spell check does not change misspelled words To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/1626893/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

>Global application shortcuts still work correctly with bluetooth media buttons. So for me I worked >around this problem particularly with rhythmbox by adding global application shortcut to command >"rhythmbox- client --play-pause". This is a good suggestion. A general workaround for all programs (at least in 16.04) is to, in the "Keyboards" utility, under the "Shortcuts" tab, in the "Sound and Media" section, change "Play (or play/pause)" to the the Bluetooth event. [Bug 1669655] Re: Adapt to new Nautilus icon name
I am trying to tell you to be less aggressive in the changes you're pushing into Ubuntu, especially after feature freeze. I don't think that making it easier to maintain a PPA is a good reason to risk bugs in the release proper and to take up a fair amount of reviewer time. We do not, and will not, have Nautilus 3.24 in Zesty and so we shouldn't be having discussions about making other packages work with it. With symlinks in adwaita-icon-theme I was suggesting a way you could update that to 3.24 but keep Nautilus at 3.20, thinking that might have been your goal (not making Humanity work with Nautilus 3.24 that's being offered from a PPA). I appreciate that Humanity, and other icon themes, will have to be updated to work with 3.24. We're far enough down the path with this change, so we might as well finish it, but let's be more conservative from now on please. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1669655 Title: Adapt to new Nautilus icon name To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/humanity-icon-theme/+bug/1669655/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1671512] [NEW] Gedit fails to read UTF-16 encoded file
Public bug reported: Affected version: 3.22.0 I'm trying to open a certain text file. Unsure of the exact encoding used, I viewed another text file in the same folder (part of the same thing) and had GEdit auto-detect the encoding as UTF-16. Viewing the file in a hex editor this seems to indeed be the case. The other file contains a lot of CJK characters, while this file contains very little (mostly ASCII english, with a few special symbols). You can see it in the file structure; almost every even byte is a zero byte (0x00). GEdit fails to open the file with the message Could not open the file “/hdd/programs/thd2/resource/addon_english.txt”. Unexpected error: Invalid byte sequence in conversion input I first figured the problem was with the text file. So I tried 'fixing' the file by converting to its own encoding, ignoring invalid sequences, using 'iconv' tool. $ iconv -c -f 'UTF-16' -t 'UTF-16' addon_english.txt > addon_english_fixed.txt $ sha1sum addon_english.txt e0e9f360482f2f234e5aeb09406c10081ebb6e1a addon_english.txt $ sha1sum addon_english_fixed.txt e0e9f360482f2f234e5aeb09406c10081ebb6e1a addon_english_fixed.txt As you can clearly see, nothing changed. Therefore I'm suspecting something's wrong with gedit here. As an aside, other editors also don't like this file much: GNU nano won't open it by default. vim will open it, but can't display all the characters in it (probably han unification issues). leafpad will nuke the contents replacing it with a literal ASCII Byte-order mark. (A BOM as rendered in Latin-1). My locale settings are EN-GB for language and UTF-8 for preferred charset used by the OS itself. [Bug 1669655] Re: Adapt to new Nautilus icon name
Thanks for checking this. Yes, the ubuntu-themes change looks wrong: https://code.launchpad.net/~jbicha/ubuntu-themes/adapt-to-nautilus-324/+merge/319453 And I've updated the humanity branch to not symlink the -panel icons. https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-art-pkg/humanity/release/ If we don't do the humanity change in zesty, then we'd have to do it in the Zesty GNOME3 Staging PPA (which has nautilus 3.24) and it doesn't seem useful to have to maintain a different version of humanity-icon- theme there. To summarize: - humanity needs to be updated anyway, regardless of which icons Nautilus uses in zesty - The Nautilus change is already in zesty-proposed (to make it easier for other Ubuntu flavors to test the new Nautilus and adapt if needed; and I thought we were going forward with this change for zesty) - I can add symlinks to adwaita-icon-theme if that would help you sponsor it since I can't upload it myself. But to be fair, adwaita already has a very large number of missing symlinks. The new ubuntu-mono packages symlink org.gnome.Nautilus.svg to system- file-manager-panel.svg. This makes you get that icon as the icon for Nautilus, which is wrong. I think that change should be reverted. I also think that implies that the -panel change in humanity is also wrong. I'd really prefer it if we could just forget about introducing destabilising changes for very little benefit into Zesty at this point. I don't see what the reason for backporting this change is. If you want to update adwaita-icon-theme to 3.24, add symlinks there so that the old icon continues to work.

[Bug 1278437] Re: can't move link type .desktop files around on desktop
I am running Ubuntu 16.04.2 and still see the bug. I downloaded the source package nautilus_3.18.4.is.3.14.3-0ubuntu5 and observed that the upstream patch referenced in comment #19 was *not* present. I applied the patch, ran configure/make, and the resulting nautilus binary no longer exhibited the bug. Can we get an updated package for 16.04? It seems it would ease the pain for a lot of people and should be easy to do. I'm not an Ubuntu or Debian developer, and do not know the niceties of preparing a proper package for distribution. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1278437 Title: can't move link type .desktop files around on desktop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/1278437/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
