[Bug 1643134] Re: Switch gnome-software to use PackageKit backend

2017-03-15 Thread Jeremy Bicha
gnome-software with PackageKit enabled is now available for testing in this PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-desktop/+archive/ubuntu/gnome-software/

If anyone wants to test the sessioninstaller replacement, uninstall
sessioninstaller, install gstreamer1.0-packagekit then follow the test
case at LP: #1661371

Matthias, I opened LP: #1673302 for the PK update.

I dropped the debconf prompt since I don't think there are any plans for
gnome-software to support debconf.

[Bug 1564570] Re: Gnome Software catalog entry missing for Steam except on i386

2017-03-15 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Ok, I have a partial solution for this in zesty-proposed. (It's in
-proposed because it needs an Archive Admin to let the arch:all package
depend on an arch:i386 similar to how pixfrogger was handled LP:
#1585058)

The problem is the installation fails because of a debconf prompt. I get the
popup message displayed below. To duplicate, be sure to first run
sudo apt purge steam

And to fix apt afterwards, run
sudo apt install -f

Sorry, this did not work

Detailed errors from the package manager follow:

Error while installing package: subprocess new pre-installation script
returned error exit status 1

That particular bug is staged in Git.
But I don't think PK in Ubuntu is in sync with Stretch, unless Launchpad is
lying to me:
1.1.5-2 vs. 1.1.5-1ubuntu1

2017-03-15 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Matthias, thanks. Yes, I can't duplicate the install-list-shorter issue any
more so I dropped it from the description now. zesty is in sync with stretch's
packagekit except for
https://bugs.debian.org/852085

I tried gnome-software with PackageKit again today and it felt at least
as good as the 'apt' backend for me.

[Bug 1643134] Re: Switch gnome-software to use PackageKit backend

2017-03-15 Thread Matthias Klumpp
Sessioninstaller purely exists because of Aptdaemon - with Aptdaemon
gone, native PackageKit frontends like GNOME Software and Apper can
cover all of its functionality.

For the install-list-shorter issue, you might want to update to the
current PackageKit release in unstable/testing, which contains a bugfix
which might be related to this issue.

[Bug 1673258] Re: Remove aptdaemon and drop or port its reverse-dependencies

2017-03-15 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

aptdaemon is abandoned and unmaintained. It has already been dropped
from Debian, but there are several reverse dependencies keeping it in
Ubuntu. I will add bug tasks for each of those dependencies, which
should be ported or dropped themselves. Then we can get rid of
  aptdaemon too.

[Bug 1643134] Re: Switch gnome-software to use PackageKit backend

2017-03-15 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

This is a tracking bug to switch gnome-software from the Ubuntu-specific
apt backend to the PackageKit backend used by other distros. In
particular this is the backend used by Debian.

To build, just uncomment the commented-out packagekit line in gnome-
  software's debian/rules and remove libapt-pkg-dev from Build-Depends.
(You can also drop aptdaemon from Depends.)

  Changes
  ===
- - It fixes some annoying bugs lingering in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS: bug 1551599 and
bug 1575426.
+ - It fixes some annoying bugs lingering in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS: LP: #1551599 and
LP: #1575426.
+
+ - It may also allow us to drop sessioninstaller (LP: #1661371)

  - On an individual app page, Source is listed as something like 'ubuntu-
  zesty-universe' or ubuntu-yakkety-updates-main' or 'lp-ppa-gnome3-team-
  gnome3-staging-yakkety-main' instead of just 'Ubuntu'

  - On an individual app page, apps from multiverse or restricted will
show License as 'Proprietary' (example: VirtualBox or Devede ). This
also happens for locally installed apps (i.e. not matching what's in
your apt sources). I don't think it happens for PPAs since everything in
  a PPA is in 'main'.
-
- - The Installed apps list is dramatically shorter. It looks like some
- sort of bug. If you search for a specific app you can still remove it.
- My already installed gnome-clocks app did not show in the list, but once
- I removed and installed it using gnome-software it then showed in the
- Installed list.

  - If you install an app using GNOME Software (or I assume another
PackageKit app), it lists the date it was last installed or updated on
the individual app page with a link to see its update history.

  - Any update, no matter how small, is only permitted as an offline
update. The button says "Restart & Install". It does seem to work fine
  though.

  - Another bug is that installing or Removing an app inside GNOME
Software is enough for it to "forget" about available Updates and think
that everything is "up to date".

[Bug 1661371] Re: [zesty] doesn't offer a window to install missing gstreamer codecs

2017-03-15 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I confirm that I could not duplicate this bug in Ubuntu 16.10 (Unity) or
Ubuntu GNOME 16.10. (I thought sessioninstaller didn't work with Ubuntu
GNOME 16.10, hmm…)

We can use GNOME Software instead of sessioninstaller, but here's what
we have to do:

1. Uninstall sessioninstaller then install gstreamer1.0-packagekit.
(gstreamer1.0-packagekit is in universe but it's from the packagekit source so
I don't think it will be a problem to promote it to main)

2. GNOME Software has to be built with the PackageKit backend (LP:
#1643134)

I confirmed that this works for installing a mp3 codec.

[Bug 1673258] Re: Remove aptdaemon and drop or port its reverse-dependencies

2017-03-15 Thread Barry Warsaw
Here are a few more relevant comments from IRC and email:

barry: software-properties was already ported from aptdaemon to pk in
Debian, we didn't push it into zesty since I don't think anyone
checked if the driver code worked [16:51]

https://anonscm.debian.org/git/collab-maint/software-properties.git/tree/debian/patches/0004-Implement-PackageKit-support.patch

"sessioninstaller is essentially obsolete when you have gnome-software
w/ the PackageKit backend. session-installer itself appears to be
broken in general."

"So, sessioninstaller is an aptdaemon based implementation of the
PackageKit session interface. The two can be dropped together, since
they are both unmaintained and not needed. PackageKit provides
everything needed as a replacement.

The dependency by gnome-software is illusory, as it depends on
PackageKit D-Bus interfaces (provided by PackageKit). The dependency
wasn't even present in xenial, as far as I recall...

oem-config-gtk is a single script[1] with only a few lines of code
actually using aptdaemon, and that can be ported to use PackageKit
instead.

language-selector-gnome is similar[2], and should be easy to port out
to PackageKit, assuming this is even needed anymore. It doesn't look
like it's maintained either...

[Bug 1314904] Re: Remote publishing does not work in Unity on trusty/utopic

2017-03-15 Thread Jens Georg
You are trying to create a new album. this is not supported anymore.
Recent versions of Shotwell (0.25.90) don't offer the option anymore.

If you want to create a new album, you have to do it in the Google
Photos web application first, then it appears in Shotwell

But this is not related to the original bug

[Bug 1643134] Re: Switch gnome-software to use PackageKit backend

2017-03-15 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

This is a tracking bug to switch gnome-software from the Ubuntu-specific
apt backend to the PackageKit backend used by other distros. In
particular this is the backend used by Debian.

To build, just uncomment the commented-out packagekit line in gnome-
  software's debian/rules and remove libapt-pkg-dev from Build-Depends.
(You can also drop aptdaemon from Depends.)

  Changes
  ===
- - It fixes some annoying bugs lingering in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS: bug 1551599 and
bug 1575426 and this recent zesty regression: bug 1640741 .
+ - It fixes some annoying bugs lingering in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS: bug 1551599 and
bug 1575426.

  - On an individual app page, Source is listed as something like 'ubuntu-
  zesty-universe' or ubuntu-yakkety-updates-main' or 'lp-ppa-gnome3-team-
  gnome3-staging-yakkety-main' instead of just 'Ubuntu'

  - On an individual app page, apps from multiverse or restricted will
show License as 'Proprietary' (example: VirtualBox or Devede ). This
also happens for locally installed apps (i.e. not matching what's in
your apt sources). I don't think it happens for PPAs since everything in
  a PPA is in 'main'.

  - The Installed apps list is dramatically shorter. It looks like some
sort of bug. If you search for a specific app you can still remove it.
My already installed gnome-clocks app did not show in the list, but once
I removed and installed it using gnome-software it then showed in the
  Installed list.

[Bug 1314904] Re: Remote publishing does not work in Unity on trusty/utopic

2017-03-15 Thread Greg Rundlett
I know Google has already discontinued Picasa in favor of Google
Photos[1], so at first I was not surprised "insert" is not valid in
Google's Picasa API [2]. However, with more investigation, I couldn't
find any separate API for Google Photos (it seems that the Picasa API
still serves as the API for Google Photos). So, perhaps there is
something wrong with *this* API interaction.

Although I've setup the Google account in Ubuntu System Settings ->
"Online Accounts", I'm unable to use that account in Shotwell to publish
to 'Picasa' (Google Photos). I get a 400 error Invalid request.

doing the SRUs for Evolution 3.22 for 16.10. We just don't have many

[Bug 1664222] Re: Update evolution-data-server to 3.22.6

2017-03-15 Thread Khurshid Alam
Is there any specific reason we are sticking with Evolution 3.22 for
17.04? 3.22.6 is probably the final release from upstream in 3.22.x
series. Which means there won't be any bug fixes for 3.22. 3.22 has lots
of memory leak issues which got fixed 3.23.x series. :(

[Bug 1673165] [NEW] Ignores route depending on other route

2017-03-15 Thread Tobias Wolter
Public bug reported:

Used versions:
* Ubuntu 16.10
* network-manager 1.2.6-0ubuntu1
* network-manager-openvpn 1.2.6-2ubuntu1
* openvpn 2.3.11-1ubuntu2

Just like iputils refuses to add routes where it doesn't has a route to the
gateway on the device, openvpn seems pretty much to do the same.

[Bug 1673092] [NEW] systemd doesn't wait until the tentative flag isn't removed before firing units depending on network-online.target

2017-03-15 Thread Braiam Peguero
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

See this issue for details
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/2037

Basically, while DAD is running checks on a ipv6 address, no service can
bind the interface, which could provoke units to fail. Disabling DAD is
a workaround as explained here [1], but ideally systemd should wait until
the tentative flag is removed. v232 doesn't have this issue. Can the relevant
patches be backported to LTS releases?

[Test Case]

1. Configure ipv6 address on one interface
2. Create unit with After=network-online.target that pings a host over
   ipv6
3. Restart the system

[Regression Potential]

* Unknown

[Other Info]

* Seems to have been fixed on v232.
* Using ifupdown or networkd to create the interface seems to be irrelevant
(upstream bug report uses networkd, while I use ifupdown)

The fix is rather easy: get the package maintainer to build GIMP 2.8

The "fix released" is for GIMP 2.9 (the current development version)
with GEGL 0.3.
