[Bug 1693607] [NEW] No HOME environment var, USER, SHELL, others not set

2017-05-25 Thread WaltSullivan
Public bug reported:

Shortly after I logged in, I started a gnome-terminal with Ctrl-Alt-T. I was
surprised to see the message:

To run a command as administrator (user "root"), use "sudo ".
See "man sudo_root" for details.

I was further surprised to see that /usr/bin/script started /bin/sh, not
/bin/bash.

So far, I've noticed (after moving my .profile and .bashrc aside) that
the environment provided is only:

DISPLAY=:0
PWD=/home/w3
SHLVL=1
TERM=xterm-256color
VTE_VERSION=4205
WINDOWID=67108874

No HOME, SHELL, USER, ...

A gnome-terminal started later gets no sudo complaints, and these environment

Knowing the status of the physical link so that you can take appropriate
action on the bridge/bond makes sense. But it seems to me that should
be handled intrinsically by networkd, not something you could or should
configure with scripts. Opening a task on systemd for us to verify the
behavior here. When all the physical links in a bridge/bond drop, does
networkd treat that as a down / subsequent up event?

When you say "egress on ens1", what do you mean? Your network config
doesn't show any such routes. Why would these routes be managed
externally to networkd?

In ifupdown, I would expect to handle this as a static network without
'auto'.

For netplan / networkd, this looks like it needs some further work to
support, already captured in bug #1664844.

[Bug 1613805] Re: [evolution/wip/webkit2] EHTMLEditorView - Restore the selection end mark correctly when processing HTML to plain text

2017-05-25 Thread Jamie Strandboge
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
  Ubuntu 16.04 evolution users sometimes send emails with ##SELECTION_END## due
to a copy/paste error in the EHTMLEditorView code when converting HTML to plain
text.

  This is fixed in newer Ubuntu releases. The fix is a from upstream:
  https://mail.gnome.org/archives/commits-list/2016-May/msg06756.html

  [Test Case]
  I tried to find a test case but was unable to as it doesn't seem to always
happen and there is no upstream bug or steps to reproduce. The code change is
obvious though. This is the broken code:

  if (strstr (*text, "##SELECTION_START##")) {
   GString *tmp;

   tmp = e_str_replace_string (
    *text,
    "##SELECTION_START##",
    "");

   g_free (*text);
   *text = g_string_free (tmp, FALSE);
  }

  if (strstr (*text, "##SELECTION_END##")) {
   GString *tmp;

   tmp = e_str_replace_string (
    *text,
    "##SELECTION_START##",
    "");

   g_free (*text);
   *text = g_string_free (tmp, FALSE);
  }

  Notice how if it finds ##SELECTION_END## in the text, it will not end up
  replacing it because it tries to replace ##SELECTION_START## instead.
  Contrast that to the stanza just above it that correctly searches for
  and replaces ##SELECTION_START##.

  Test case then is simply testing for no regressions:
  1. send an html mail
  2. respond to an html in html
  3. respond to an html in plain text
  4. send an email in plain text
  5. respond to a plain text email in html
  6. respond to a plain text email in plain text

  [Regression Potential]
- The regression potential is considered low since the change is minimal and
obviously correct. In addition I personally used the patch for months (until
upgrading to 17.04) and have several users how also use it without issue.

  I sometimes see this from people on xenial. Patch is in the commit list
  needs a light backport. I will attach a debdiff if it works.

[Bug 1672424] Re: Cannot install Debian files outside of the repositories

2017-05-25 Thread Jai Salzwedel
For what it's worth, I also had to install this update through the
"Updates" tab of Software Center. This was one of several updates there
that did not appear in the Software Updater. I didn't try `sudo apt
update ; sudo apt upgrade`, so I cannot confirm if I had the same
problem as Ads2.

[Bug 1244548] Re: Keyboard shortcut for changing keyboard layout does not work on lock and login screen

2017-05-25 Thread Ira Abramov
I don't see it needed for the login screen and it's not working for the
gnome-screensaver unlock screen.

Using Ubuntu 17.04 here, but I have seen the same on LTS 16.04 and 14.04.
I know it's specific to gnome-screensaver since this is not happening in a
Unity session, only Gnome.

Whether the indicator on the right of the password box says en or he (in
my case, Hebrew) the language is always the last language that was
selected at the time the screen locked. no alt-shift keyboard combos nor
clicking on the indicator helps (the indicator changes, but the keyboard
doesn't. in Hebrew it's clear to see, I have the cursor aligned to the
right). the only solution if my screen accidentally locks on Hebrew is
to ctrl-alt-F1, login and kill gnome-screensaver, switch back to X (only
now the screen blanks after 10 seconds of inactivity until I run the
gnome-screensaver again).

In short, as much as I love gnome, I'm forced to tweak Unity to be more
usable because of this little annoyance, and Unity will soon be taken
out of Ubuntu. isn't this about time it got fixed?

[Bug 1689825] Re: gnome-keyring not unlocked on boot

2017-05-25 Thread Hassan Williamson
Sorry, I should have been more constructive with my comment. The
workaround in #10 seems to partially work. It doesn't allow the "login"
password keychain to be unlocked on login, but it at least let you see
the passwords in seahorse so that it can be unlocked manually - which in
turn prevents applications from hanging.

I don't understand why updates have to be manually installed from Ubuntu
Software though (and, in this case, it does have to be installed from

Updater? Is there any documentation on this situation where people

While we try to fix all bugs before release, that is not always possible
and this bug was mentioned in the Ubuntu 17.04 Release Notes [1]. If you
do not install the update to fix this bug and restart your computer,
then you will still be affected by this bug.

Therefore, I am closing this bug since it's already been fixed. If it
still does not work after installing all updates and restarting your
computer, please file a new bug with details of what is not working.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and help make Ubuntu
better.

Seth, some of your lintian warnings are because you are using an old

Jeremy I've filed a bug as requested at bug 1693463. Maybe you could

expect Software Update to automatically deal with system updates? Is
there a way we can prevent users from running into this bug in the first

[Bug 1693463] [NEW] Can't install Debian packages for programs not in the Ubuntu repositories

2017-05-25 Thread Ads20000
Public bug reported:

Impact
--
It is not possible to use the default Software app to install .debs for
packages that are not already available in Ubuntu.

Test Case
-
1.
a. Download a .deb that is not already in Ubuntu.
It is important that the package not be available in your local apt cache.
https://www.google.com/chrome/
https://itch.io/app
https://www.opera.com/download/get/?partner=www=Linux=Opera%20beta=deb

b. Open the .deb with gnome-software
gnome-software --local-filename=itch_23.4.1_amd64.deb

gnome-software should open to a page with an Install button for the
package.

Click Install and verify that the app is installed.

What Happens

The test fails. On Ubuntu 17.04, I get a popup
"Sorry, this did not work
The file is not supported."

[Bug 1693463] Re: Can't install Debian packages for programs not in the Ubuntu repositories

2017-05-25 Thread Ads20000
Sam Korson who also got this bug said (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
software/+bug/1672424/comments/56 ):

'my issue seems to have been resolved now either way; I just noticed
that there were some "system updates" available from inside Software and
I installed those and rebooted. I can now install .deb files without
problems. Great!'

But most users don't go to that part of Ubuntu Software regularly? Why
do these need to be installed? I don't understand why there's two
different graphical update mangers in the first place...

[Bug 1693463] Re: Can't install Debian packages for programs not in the Ubuntu repositories

2017-05-25 Thread Ads20000
I copied the layout from bug 1672424 but edited it accordingly. Also, it
doesn't happen now, but at first when trying to install an app by
launching gnome-software by loading the Deb graphically (e.g. clicking
on it in Firefox's download list), I was able to click the Install
button in Ubuntu Software (gnome-software; the 'Sorry, this does not
work' popup didn't load in this case), but aside from pressing inwards
like you'd expect a button to appear when you click on it, there was no
graphical response and the app didn't install. Now I just get the popup
appear when launching Ubuntu Software graphically from a Deb too.

I haven't installed the update there to see if that resolves this issue
because I'm not sure people should be running into this in the first
place?

[Bug 1686393] Re: [MIR] gdm3

2017-05-25 Thread Seth Arnold
I'm just getting started and thought I'd give some early feedback. There
appears to be a lot more noise in the build logs than usual:

- 88 cases of "deprecation warning"
- chown and chmod errors in the build logs (below)
- lintian error and warning:
