[Bug 1505409] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGTRAP in x_io_error() from _XIOError() from _XEventsQueued() from XPending() from gdk_check_xpending() ["Connection to xwayland lost"]

2017-05-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
In theory if the problem is Xwayland/Xorg going away then we could see a
similar huge number of crashes there as in this bug. And we do. But
surprisingly the binary is listed as Xorg, not Xwayland:

Top gnome-shell crash (this bug): 37442 occurrences this year
https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/d0252e2b465152efea2511e72f1e31681e2b2742

Top Xorg crash (bug 1543192): 36403 occurrences this year
https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/4de849dfec89af168af9cda3318221a2a654e530

There could be some causation there...

[Bug 1685053] Re: Content of open message windows becomes blank when Evolution receives new mail

2017-05-29 Thread andrew.jeffery
At the time of reporting my system was in a unsupportable half-upgraded
state between Yakkety and Zesty. Obviously given that it's hard to
expect stability, but I've since fixed that and am running a proper
Zesty environment (with Evolution 3.22.6-1ubuntu1). I and am still
seeing the issue.

[Bug 1021375] Re: Nautilus says the USB stick is read only when it is not

2017-05-29 Thread madivad
I'm on 17.04 fully updated as at 30/5/2017. This is still happening. As
per everything the OP had in 2012, I can confirm the same at this end.

No remounting or editing of permissions changed nautilus' permissions
for me except for:

* Closing nautilus,
* Removing ~/.config/nautilus,  *1
* logging out and back in again (for good measure—not a reboot) and
* restarting nautilus worked for me

*1 May not have been required, but done because I was working through
several posts and it was one of the suggested solutions

[Bug 1663097] Re: Show featured snaps

2017-05-29 Thread Robert Ancell
I added basic support for this into gnome-software but it makes the
startup slow. This is because it downloads all the icons for each
popular app before showing them. In the other plugins the icons are
always local (downloaded with AppStream data). So I think this needs
either an icon cache (only have the delay on first run) or gnome-
software modified to load the icons in the background (my preferred
option).

[Bug 1686077] Re: Own org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.MediaKeys D-Bus name too

2017-05-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gnome-settings-daemon -
3.24.2-0ubuntu0.1

---
gnome-settings-daemon (3.24.2-0ubuntu0.1) zesty; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release (LP: #1689610)
- Fix gdm starting with no plugins which broke Hi-DPI support
  on the login screen (LP: #1685035)
- Fix brightness control in some dual-GPU computers (LP: #1683445)
- Own the D-Bus name that the API documentation tells users of the
  multimedia keys API they should use (org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.MediaKeys),
  in addition to the D-Bus name that they actually use in practice
  (org.gnome.SettingsDaemon). (LP: #1686077)
  * Add revert-disable-rfkill-keys-handling.patch:
- Revert commit that disabled GNOME's rfkill handling. Although
  this fixes problems for some users, it makes things worse for
  other people.

[Bug 1574614] Re: Losing focus when trying to rename file or folder

2017-05-29 Thread Peter Müller
I am also facing this behavior.
- List view
- Clicking a File or Folder
- Choosing Rename either from Menu or by pressing F2 makes no difference
- Typing exits the rename mode,and the search box on the down right pops up
containing the typed character

Additional observation:
-Trying to rename a file/folder which is *not* on top of the list and then
typing "d" does not exit edit mode immediately, instead the file at the top of
the list view is suddenly selected and in edit mode.
Typing "d" again ( top entry is still selected and in edit mode) now exits edit
mode like other chars and the search box pops up with one "d"

2017-05-29 Thread jvp
ubuntu 16.04 lts, default installation and the bug persists exactly as
described in posts #22 & #23

Steps to reproduce:

1/ Open a folder with more than 10.000 images
2/ See memory usage by nautilus climbing to several gigs
3/ Closing the folder does not change anything
4/ kill nautilus and memory usage returns to normal

Things get much worst if you zoom the thumbnails with every zoom step

system used amd64 with 8Gb of ram

[Bug 1672175] Re: gnome-shell should recommend chrome-gnome-shell

2017-05-29 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Łukasz, the last paragraph of the bug's description explains why 17.10
artful does not currently recommend chrome-gnome-shell (it's to make the
gnome-shell MIR easier but I think chrome-gnome-shell will be in main
and that recommends will be re-added before 17.10 is released).

zesty's gnome-shell already does recommend chrome-gnome-shell.

[Bug 1672175] Re: gnome-shell should recommend chrome-gnome-shell

2017-05-29 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Thanks for preparing the SRU! This doesn't seem to be the case for
artful though, is it? Checking the packaging for gnome-shell
(3.24.2-0ubuntu4) I don't see the same Recommends as proposed here - is
it not needed there? Or is it a bug that only affects gnome users below
3.24? Same for zesty.

[Bug 1688209] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in __GI___libc_free() from g_free() from gweather_location_unref() from g_boxed_free() from boxed_finalize()

2017-05-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
However I know you are the original reporter so I won't stand in your
way any more. Just suggest being cautious with marking duplicate bugs
that have different stack traces. A common outcome from that is people
continue to complain their problems actually aren't fixed even after you
think you've released a fix. So you need to be very sure it's the same
issue or else bugs linger open indefinitely.

[Bug 1688209] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in __GI___libc_free() from g_free() from gweather_location_unref() from g_boxed_free() from boxed_finalize()

2017-05-29 Thread Tim
1693964 was a cut and paste fail.
bug 1616651 was the correct one.

The stacktrace is different but it is hitting the same codepath that was
suffering memory corruption.

#2  0x7f4c502ef06b in gweather_location_unref (loc=0x55e7b5c95700) at
gweather-location.c:396
i =
loc = 0x55e7b5c95700

   g_free (loc->local_name);

I am pretty confident that its the same bug. I saw numerous variatons of
stacktraces while debugging the crash.

[Bug 1567565] Re: Permission error saving a file

2017-05-29 Thread MichaelB
Same problem here, all our files are on a NAS (cifs share). Ubuntu 16.04
/ Evince 3.18.2

When we want to "edit" a pdf file with evince (create annotation in my
case) and overwrite the file.. is not possible, i got the same error
"Error renaming temporary file: Permission denied". So we still work
with Adobe Acrobat PRO by example and this is stupid because this
functionality work great with local file in evince.

I'll test the workaround proposed by Alex D (owner /**/.goutputstream-*
rw)
