I hadn't experienced that issue until yesterday, but it happened to me 5

In saying that, it is occurring in 3.22, which uses the new auth code.

2017-09-14 Thread Robert Ancell
My guess is this might be being caused by our Ubuntu One dialog that is
run from inside our plugin. That would fit Richard's guess that we are
using cairo from the non-main thread (i.e. using the plugin thread).

The solution to that would be to backport the auth code into 3.20.

Crash reports are uploaded at some time after they happened. So a crash
file might sit on disk until a later date when you log in to MATE, and
then the upload of older crash reports might happen.

Have a look in your /var/crash/

If there are none there already then I'm not sure why, other than
dumping of core somehow failed, or less likely it's not "crashing" via
any of the normal fatal signals.

[Bug 1716068] Re: Gnome Shell crashes randomly

2017-09-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It looks like we won't be able to figure out the root cause of your
crash until the robots can analyse and retrace it. Please let us know
the new bug ID created in comment #3 if you know it.

P.S. What kind of terminal are you running "gnome-shell --replace" from?
That sounds like it should be impossible, or you are using a Xorg
session in which case you will have some basic windows to type in after
the shell/window manager crashed.

[Bug 1717388] [NEW] Duplicate lines created when copying csv file from a windows shared folder through Virtualbox

2017-09-14 Thread Roy Jamison
Public bug reported:

Running: Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS
System: Virtualbox VM

When copying a large csv file (30-40 columns with strange characters, null
bytes, etc.) from a shared folder with windows through vbox to Ubuntu, the data
is corrupted in a strange way.
Some of the lines are repeated further down. The original csv still in the
shared folder opens fine, so this doesn't appear to be a problem with
LibreOffice or Ubuntu's ability to view shared files, it looks like a copying
error with nautilus.

Copying using 'cp' through the terminal works without issue.

[Bug 1717241] Re: nautilus crashed with signal 5 in _XReply() - drag and drop crash

2017-09-14 Thread Rodrigo Alconchel
** Description changed:

To reproduce on a fully updated Ubuntu Desktop 16.04 system with Unity:

  Step 1: Start nautilus

Step 2: Drag and drop a file to any target: to a different folder in the
- same nautilus window, to another folder in a different nautilus folder,
+ same nautilus window, to another folder in a different nautilus windows,
etc. ... The target is irrelevant.

Expected to happen: File successfuly copied or moved.

Actually happened: Mouse pointer changes to a hand with a plus sign.
Source file moves only slightly and then freezes, never makes it to the
target. Application locks up for a few seconds, and then the application
window vanishes. Crash report is then generated.

  Ubuntu release: Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS

  Nautilus package version: Installed: 1:3.18.4.is.3.14.3-0ubuntu6

  Additional (and maybe relevant) notes:

  1) Drag and drop function seems broken generally, across applications,
not just in nautilus. For instance, same behavior appears when trying to
drag and drop a Thunderbird message to another Thunderbird folder, or
when trying to drag and drop a cell or a range of cells within the same
  Libreoffice Calc spreadsheet.

  2) Interestingly, application windows can be dragged and dropped across
display monitors (3 monitor setup), without any problems.

  3) I am using proprietary NVIDIA drivers, but please do not suggest
using nouveau drivers, because they work horribly (heavy display
corruption, pixelated screen, and constant mouse flickering)

  4) Graphics setup: NVIDIA Quadro NVS 450 card with twin GPU and 4 heads.
NVIDIA propietary driver version 340.102 (installed from ubuntu
repositories, not from proprietary NVIDIA installer; correct driver for
this card according to NVIDIA documentation). 3 monitors connected in a
  simple horizontal layout.

  5) Nautilus extension installed: nautilus-share 0.7.3-2ubuntu1

  6) Attaching a nautilus debugging log from terminal command:
  G_DEBUG="all" NAUTILUS_DEBUG ="All" nautilus

  7) Attaching X Org log file with -logverbose 6 option

[Bug 1717352] Re: Locale settings broken after debootstrap installation

2017-09-14 Thread Jeffrey Bouter
Fixed by installing:

language-pack-en-base
language-pack-gnome-en
language-pack-gnome-en-base

I think those packages should be dependencies of ubuntu-desktop.

[Bug 1716068] Re: Gnome Shell crashes randomly

2017-09-14 Thread John Steeves
I've been testing Ubuntu Gnome 16.10 and 17.04 and the same issue happens on
them.
When running "gnome-shell --replace" in a Terminal before preforming the
software updates, I see a "Segmentation fault (core dumped)" error in the
Terminal when the crash happens.

However, the issue never appears when using the current builds of Ubuntu
17.10, both in Wayland and Xorg. Perhaps the updated GJS interpreter
fixed the issue.

I still wonder if it's possible to patch the Gnome Shell package in
Ubuntu 16.04 to fix this bug for the LTS users (who expect stability in
their system until 2021).

[Bug 1717340] [NEW] [artful] Keyboard doesn't work after logging in to gnome

2017-09-14 Thread Ernst Sjöstrand
Public bug reported:

After I type my password in GDM and come to the gnome desktop, no keys are
working. Not even caps lock toggling.
However, I found out that if I toggle "Slow keys" in the accessibility
settings, it starts working again!
To clarify, Slow keys and all other accessibility is disabled from start, but
turning Slow keys on and off again makes my keyboard work.
I seem to have to do this once after every _reboot_.

This is on a system that has upgraded to Artful.

[Bug 1713536] Re: udev: boot script does not trigger subsystem coldplug

2017-09-14 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package systemd - 234-2ubuntu10

---
systemd (234-2ubuntu10) artful; urgency=medium

  * Do not fail debootstrap if /etc/resolv.conf is immutable. (LP: #1713212)
  * Revert "Create /etc/resolv.conf on resolved start, if it is an empty file."
As it is ineffective, and correct creation of /etc/resolv.conf has been
fixed.
This reverts commit ccba42504f216f6ffbc54eb2c9af347355f8d86b.
  * initramfs-tools: trigger udevadm add actions with subsystems first.
This updates the initramfs-tools init-top udev script to trigger udevadm
actions with type specified. This mimicks the
systemd-udev-trigger.service. Without type specified only devices are
triggered, but triggering subsystems may also be required and should happen
before triggering the devices. This is the case for example on s390x with
zdev
generated udev rules. (LP: #1713536)

[Bug 1717300] [NEW] gnome-keyring -ssh silently start and conflict with ssh-agent

2017-09-14 Thread Olleg Samoylov
Public bug reported:

According to /etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-keyring-ssh.desktop gnome-keyring
launchers are visible in OnlyShowIn=GNOME;Unity;MATE;. I use Cinnamon and under
Cinnamon gnome-keyring is not visible in the autostart menu. But it's started
hidden ad steal SSH_AUTH_SOCK from the ssh_agent. And this creates confusion
problems, because gnome-keyring don't support ECDSA and ED25519. And there was
hard to investigate where this gnome-keyring was launched to switch it off.
The problem script is from Ubuntu, perhaps
/usr/share/upstart/sessions/gnome-keyring-ssh.conf
There is a check of running ssh-agent, [ -z "$SSH_AUTH_SOCK" ], but obviously
it don't work.

What is needed to do is if gnome-keyring is running in any windows
manager, thus it must be visible in any, thus anyone shall can quickly
switch it off, if this will be needed. Or don't run where it is not
visible as autostart application.

Workaround is to copy file /etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-keyring-ssh.desktop
to the user homedir, delete "OnlyShowIn=GNOME;Unity;MATE;" with any text
editor in this file and switch it off later. Now all work fine.

Ubuntu 17.04, gnome-keyring 3.20.0-3ubuntu2.

[Bug 1714542] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in st_theme_node_reduce_border_radius() from st_theme_node_paint_borders() from st_theme_node_paint()

This appears to happen much more with the experimental mutter fractional
scaling support turned on and scaling set to 150% (and font scaling set
to 100%), but also happens without that enabled. Without it enabled, I
have scaling set to 100%, but font scaling set to 150%.

[Bug 1717272] [NEW] HiDPI settings reset on logout

2017-09-14 Thread Jeffrey Bouter
Public bug reported:

When logging in to my XPS 13 (9360) on 17.10, the only thing that is
reasonably (200%) scaled is the sidebar. Top bar, windows, and fonts are
all unscaled and TINY.

- I'll go to Control Centre, Devices, Displays, and see that scaling is set to
200%.
- I'll then change the scaling to 100%, and hit apply and confirm. At this
point, windows are scaled to 200%.
- I need to change the scaling to 100% AGAIN. Now everything is 100%, and
therefore tiny
- I then change the scaling to 200%, hit apply and confirm, which does barely
anything
- I then need to set scaling to 200% AGAIN, hit apply and confirm, and only
*then* everything is properly scaled.

I need to do this every time I log back in.

  - Don't build for s390x since gnome-shell isn't available there
+ rules:
  - Don't override default user/group
  - --enable-gdm-xsession to install upstream Xsession script
  - override dh_installinit with --no-start to avoid session being killed
  - Only do gdm3 things when we're building gdm3
+ rules, README.Debian, gdm3.8.pod:
Use upstream custom.conf instead of daemon.conf
+ gdm3.{postinst,postrm}: rename user and group back to gdm
+ gdm3.postinst: don't kill gdm on upgrade
+ gdm3.*.pam: Make pam_env read ~/.pam_environment (LP: #952185)
+ gdm3.install:
  - Stop installing default.desktop. It adds unnecessary clutter
("System Default") to the session chooser.
  - Don't install debian/Xsession
+ debian/gdm3.config
  - Only prompt the user to choose display managers when we haven't
already determined a migration to gdm3 is recommended.
  - Handle the transition from lightdm in gdm3 rather than
ubuntu-session
  - Check the version of gdm3 instead of ubuntu-session. If
ubuntu-session wasn't installed, the previous version generated
stderr output. (It didn't fail, because the dpkg-query call was
first in the pipeline and the awk call always succeeds.) If gdm3
was configured before ubuntu-session then this check wouldn't have
worked either. I think that instead we can compare the version of
gdm3 itself, and do this transition when we upgrade from an old
version or install gdm3 for the first time.
+ ubuntu_run_xsession.d.patch
+ ubuntu_xresources_is_a_dir.patch
  - Fix loading from /etc/X11/Xresources/*
+ ubuntu_nvidia_prime.patch:
  - Add hook to run prime-offload (as root) and prime-switch if
nvidia-prime is installed (LP: #1262068)
+ revert_override_LANG_with_accountservices.patch:
  - On Ubuntu accountservices only stores the language and not the
full locale as needed by LANG.
+ ubuntu_config_error_dialog.patch:
  - Show warning dialog in case of error in ~/.profile etc. and
don't let a syntax error make the login fail (LP: #678421).
+ Add revert_drop_gdm_shell_session.patch:
  - Revert commit that requires gnome-session to be installed
+ debian/default.pa
  - Added new file to disable Bluetooth audio devices in PulseAudio from
gdm3.
+ debian/gdm3.install
  - Added details of the default.pa file
+ debian/gdm3.postinst
  - Added installation of default.pa and creation of dir if it doesn't
exist.
+ debian/patches/95_hide_x11_sessions_with_nvidia_kms.patch: Patch from
Alberto Milone. On nvidia, if the user has enabled KMS, don't show X11
sessions and force Wayland instead since X11 won't work there.

gdm3 (3.26.0-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream stable release
- Fix for unauthenticated unlock when autologin is enabled
  (CVE-2017-12164)
- Fix for going to normal mode after classic
- crasher fix when user switching
- make sure reauthentication is run in right context
  *
debian/patches/01_gdm-session-Calculate-fallback-session-name-without-.patch:
Cherry-pick from upstream. Calculate the default (`fallback') session in
the same way as gnome-shell does, fixing an out-of-sync issue between the
greeter and gdm's idea of the first session. (LP: #1705157)
  * debian/patches/92_systemd_unit.patch: No need to patch to send HUP - this
is done upstream now.

gdm3 (3.25.90.1-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release
  * Drop revert_drop_gdm_shell_session.patch: Applied in new release
  * Bump Standards-Version to 4.1.0

[Bug 1716921] Re: Enable quick alt-tab to switch between last windows of the 2 recent applications

2017-09-14 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gnome-shell - 3.25.91-0ubuntu5

---
gnome-shell (3.25.91-0ubuntu5) artful; urgency=medium

  Changes for ubuntu session:
  * 71_smarter_alt_tab.patch
- quick alt-tab (without showing up the switcher) switch only between
the last window of the last 2 applications to be focused instead of
raising all windows of those apps. (LP: #1716921)
  * 72_consistent_alt_key_above_tab_behavior.patch:
- ensure alt + key above tab, when the switcher is opened, focus the first
window and not directly the second one of an application. This is
relevant as the select window part of the switcher is only raising the
selected window, not the whole application. (LP: #1716872)

[Bug 1713323] Re: HiDPI support partially broken after upgrade to Gnome 3.25

2017-09-14 Thread John Skottis
Also if you add a second monitor scaling is stuck at the default of the
first screen and cannot be changed to anything else.

Note:

I am using a laptop with a 15 inch screen and 3200 x 1800 resolution
with a second monitor with a 25 inch screen with 2560 x 1440 resolution.
The primary monitor is the 25 inch and there is a scaling of 200%
applied to the 15 inch. The scaling on the 25inch cannot be changed back
to 100% and therefore the side bar looks enormous
