[Bug 1717170] Re: Gnome-shell session crash after monitor switch-off/input change.

2017-09-17 Thread ryzko
Hello. /var/crash/ is empty. I have attached part of Syslog starting at
the time I switched off the monitor and a lot of errors were logged
since that time. Please look at it, may be it can help also determine
why crash file is not generated.

[Bug 1624644] Re: By default settings unattended-upgrade is unable to automatically remove packages that become unused in conjunction with updating by other software.

2017-09-17 Thread Jarno Suni
** Description changed:

- When using default settings for unattended-upgrades i.e.
+ When using default settings for unattended-upgrade i.e.
  Unattended-Upgrade::Remove-Unused-Dependencies "false";
  # default "false"
  Unattended-Upgrade::Remove-New-Unused-Dependencies "true";
  # default "true"
  in configuration file /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades,
- U-U is unable to remove packages that become unused in conjunction with
updating by other software such as update-manager or apt full-upgrade. This is
because U-U compares the list of unneeded packages before and after it upgrades
packages to detect which packages are new unused ones.
+ unattended-upgrade is unable to remove packages that become unused in
conjunction with updating by other software such as update-manager or apt
full-upgrade. This is because unattended-upgrade compares the list of unneeded
packages before and after it upgrades packages to detect which packages are new
unused ones.
+
+ Consequently, if user installs new kernels using e.g. update-manager,
+ the excessive kernels will not be removed by unattended-upgrade, and
+ eventually (small) /boot will become full.

Expected behavior: handle removing of unused packages differently at
least until other package management software installed by default can
handle removing of new unused packages.

[Bug 1716068] Re: Gnome Shell crashes randomly

2017-09-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Sometimes crash reports don't work reliably. I can confirm it failed to log a
new bug for you:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/~jstevz4teh1337/+reportedbugs?orderby=-id=0

Of course, you shouldn't be running 'gnome-shell --replace' normally
unless it's already crashed beforehand. Had it crashed before you ran
that command? Even still, it sounds like a dangerous way to restart the
shell because the act of it restarting might kill your terminal which is
now the parent of the shell. So restarting the shell like that could
make it crash immediately, unless you also do:

  nohup gnome-shell --replace &

Please answer the question in the previous paragraph and also try the
above more correct command instead.

[Bug 1717825] [NEW] Switch from Ubuntu One dialog in plugins and use standard dialog

2017-09-17 Thread Robert Ancell
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
In GNOME Software 3.20 (Xenial) we have an Ubuntu One dialog that runs inside
the plugins. GNOME 3.22 implemented a authentication dialog into the GNOME
Software code in 3.22 (based on our dialog) which we switched to using. The
dialog support was backported into 3.20.5.

When the current dialog is run it runs from a different thread to the
main UI. GTK+ is not thread safe and so this is likely to cause random
crashes. May be the cause of bugs like bug 1614130.

[Test Case 1]
1. Delete any existing Ubuntu One credentials by running seahorse and deleting
keys named com.ubuntu.UbuntuOne.*
2. Open GNOME Software
3. Remove a snap

Expected result:
- The Ubuntu One dialog shows, works and the snap is removed

[Test Case 2]
1. Delete any existing Ubuntu One credentials by running seahorse and deleting
keys named com.ubuntu.UbuntuOne.*
2. Open GNOME Software
3. Write an app review

Expected result:
- The Ubuntu One dialog shows, works and the review is written.

NOTE: Pick an app with few reviews so you can see your one that is
added. May need to restart GNOME Software to see review (this is
existing behaviour).

[Regression Potential]
Change is non-trivial, though the dialog code has been used in GNOME Software
3.22 and onwards. Some risk of breaking related code.

[Bug 1717805] [NEW] org.gnome.desktop.interface.scaling-factor is ignored

2017-09-17 Thread Timothy
Public bug reported:

I have a HiDPI screen and so have org.gnome.desktop.interface.scaling-
factor set to 2 in gsettings so that everything isn't super tiny.

$ gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.interface scaling-factor
uint32 2

This has always work perfectly. That is, until this last round of
updates on the artful daily. After I ran apt upgrade this morning (first
time it like a week maybe?) scaling-factor seems to be ignored;
everything is tiny again.

[Bug 1515829] Re: Gimp tooltip text color is white on white

2017-09-17 Thread Scott Wells
The solution in comment # 6 was key to me fixing this annoying problem
on my openSUSE Leap 42.1 KDE install.

The checkbox was found by searching "Desktop", selecting Configure
Desktop. In the Appearance section, select Color. Select the Options
tab. Remove the checkmark from "Apply colors to non-Qt applications".
Apply. Close any Inkscape items, and open Inkscape.

Icon descriptions changed to white text on a black field, rather than
white on white. Now, I can more easily learn how to use Inkscape.

[Bug 1371928] Re: Main window content fully transparent

2017-09-17 Thread WFPokorny
I hit the transparent main image window issue in gimp again today after
not having seen it for a long while.

Though I'm running 16.04 now, this issue goes back to Ubuntu 12.04 - at
least - for me. I 'believe' the bug and proposed fix in compiz the
nvidia folks ran down mid 2015 - and referenced in this thread - greatly
reduced how often I see windowing issues and the severity thereof. In
any case I've seen issue much less often over the past couple years.

Random info...

- Today I downloaded and installed the "CompizConfig Settings Manager"
using the Ubuntu Software installer. Scrolling down there was a section
called "Effects" where I deselected Animations as others herein
suggested. Gimp has been working fine since. (Immediately turning the
animation effects back on did not bring the gimp transparent image issue
back...)

- Prior to turning off the compiz animation effects, my usual work
around of starting gimp passing two images was working OK. Namely: 'gimp
tinyBogusTransparentWindow.jpg myRealImage.jpg' The second image window
shows up OK. You can also open multiple images via a right click in the
transparent window to get image windows you can see.

- I too run with many windows up. Often 30-40 - mostly xterm windows.
Like others the problem usually shows up only after having been running
for a long time - 19 days this time. Reboots, log out & in fixes the
issue.

- I also usually see other effects once compiz is messed up though they
are less dramatic then with gimp. The cursor sometimes doesn't show up
as it should in the firefox search window when firefox starts. Sometimes
an extra click in a window is needed for window focus to shift.

- When I see the issue with a transparent window in gimp, I can
sometimes get a first image window I can see if I just try starting gimp
repeatedly - which hints a race condition.

-Intel® Core™ i3-4130 in-built graphics. Two physical displays.

I'll update should I see issues again now that I have the compiz
animation effects off.

[Bug 1717486] Re: gnome visual issues

2017-09-17 Thread Wolf Rogner
Figured out how to reproduce this:

Appended screenshot 1 demonstrates how my favorites bar looks like
normally.

When scrolling down with two fingers with the mouse over the bar, the
icons are gone (see screenshot 2).

Icons cannot be called back by reverse scrolling with the mouse cursor
in the favorites bar.

Workaround: Screen-lock and unlock will bring up the fav-bar correctly.

[Bug 1717479] Re: ubuntu 17:10 Artful: topbar size on hidpi

2017-09-17 Thread Fusion
Correction:

In a fresh boot (after powered off) size changed to normal only with
restarting environment. If gnome-teak-tool is used, size could change
from small to tiny only. Although, after restarting environment (alt+f2
+r) then gnome-teak-tool do the job as well.

[Bug 1710350] Re: black screen after suspend

2017-09-17 Thread Fusion
I did it. The only crash that did not open ubuntu-bug was
"_usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash". I don't know if that is relevant to
the problem.

If I could do anything to add more info, please tell me.

The problem wasn't just a crash. It happens about every three in a row
times that I returned my pc from sleep.

Meaning..
1. press sleep button on keyboard -> pc goes to sleep
2. press power button -> artful returns normally
3. press sleep button on keyboard -> pc goes to sleep
4. press power button -> artful returns normally
5. press sleep button on keyboard -> pc goes to sleep
6. press power button -> artful returns black without anything I could do to
see anything on monitor. Although it seems that artful runs on background
normally because on button press monitor starts again on black ..and then
closes again

[Bug 1717479] [NEW] ubuntu 17:10 Artful: topbar size on hidpi

2017-09-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Info:
Ubuntu 17:10 upgraded from 17:04 (64bit)
Screen resolution: 3840x2160
vga: nvidia 1050ti - 384.69
Gnome-tweak-tool - my default font size setting: 0,8 - 0,9 is ok. Less than 0,8
is too small and bigger than 0,9 should be under "universal access".

Status:
1. every update is applied.
2. tested with gnome extensions on and off (result was the same)

Problem:
1. The gnome topbar is too small, time and date are barely visible.
2. The dash's texts are also too small (names of the apps)

Solution:
1. if restart environment (alt+f2, r + enter) --> this fixes topbar size but
leave other apps like nautilus untouched (which is fine cause they are working
fine already)
2. if change font size through gnome-tweak-tool --> this fixes topbar size but
also changes nautilus font size, which is not good, because nautilus font is
already ok

Issues:
1. with font size on 1.00 (through gnome-tweak-tool) everything is very big.
2. Many Topicons are very small (like viber, telegram, skype, mega) Others
(variety, deluge) are fine.
3. When change size of topbar through restarting environment, ubuntu cannot
restore from sleep about 60% of times (I couldn't find anything else causing
that except from restarting environment)

I hope it helps. I wish to knew better to help more efficiently.

[Bug 1208993] Re: Ubuntu slows down and hangs while copying file from/to USB

2017-09-17 Thread VESELIN VASILEV
I am also affected by this bug on Lenovo Thinkpad with: Intel® Core™ i7-4810MQ
CPU @ 2.80GHz × 8 and 256GB SSD. But it seems it is not hardware related. Tried
the workarounds, none work, the systems is still sluggish and freezing while
copying (both nautilus and command line) 6GB file to USB. The copy rate is also
low - towards the end just 3-4 MB/s.
The system partition is ext4, not btrfs like suggested above. The distribution
is 17.04
