[Bug 1716068] Re: Gnome Shell crashes randomly

2017-09-19 Thread John Steeves
The crash occurs (during the software updates) regardless of whether I
run the "gnome-shell --replace" command. I was only running the command
before installing the software updates (and therefore, before the crash
happened) in one specific session per Ubuntu release in order to get
debug information when the crash happens (above). I would never run it
in a normal scenario.

I crashed gnome-shell on Ubuntu 16.04 again (without running the "gnome-
shell --replace" command) and added a symbolic stacktrace, which I
managed to upload to Launchpad using the ubuntu-bug command (I needed to
enable Apport in 16.04 LTS by commenting-out a line in
/etc/apport/crashdb.conf). You can find it as a private bug report at

[Bug 1691867] Re: New binary name: gnome-user-docs instead of gnome-user-guide

2017-09-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package meta-gnome3 - 1:3.22+5ubuntu1

---
meta-gnome3 (1:3.22+5ubuntu1) artful; urgency=medium

  * Sync with Debian. Remaining changes:
- Drop libreoffice-evolution depends
- Allow epiphany-browser to fulfill browser dependency on s390x
- Have gnome-games continue to depend on aisleriot since Ubuntu's
  aisleriot doesn't use gconf
- Unversion dependencies since Ubuntu doesn't have the latest versions:
  + gnome-user-share
  + vino
  * Build-depend on gnome-shell to only build on architectures where it's
available (LP: #1712083)

meta-gnome3 (1:3.22+5) unstable; urgency=medium

  * core: Depend on gnome-user-docs instead of transitional pkg
(LP: #1691867)
  * core: Allow chromium-browser to fulfill browser dependency
(for Ubuntu)
  * gnome: Recommend nautilus-extension-brasero instead of brasero

meta-gnome3 (1:3.22+4) unstable; urgency=medium

  [ Laurent Bigonville ]
  * Make gnome-core metapackage depend against gstreamer1.0-packagekit, this
will allow automatic codec installation

  [ Jeremy Bicha ]
  * core: Replace tracker-gui with tracker (tracker-gui is being removed)
  * gnome: Add gnome-todo. It's part of GNOME 3.26.

meta-gnome3 (1:3.22+3) unstable; urgency=medium

  * debian/control.in: Install shotwell by default again and keep gnome-photos
as an alternative. gnome-photos is not mature enough for now.

meta-gnome3 (1:3.22+2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Add chrome-gnome-shell dependency to gnome-core. This enables Chromium and
newer versions of Firefox to use https://extensions.gnome.org.

ok, obviously a wrong guess on my side. I tried copying from and to xfs

But if you experience sluggishness without btrfs I also doubt it's

[Bug 1687863] Re: evolution PIM does not reliably reconnect after suspend

2017-09-19 Thread Wolf
Somehow related:
When booting the system, if I do not log in immediately, I get a
"Failed to lookup credentials: Failed to get password from GOA: timeout"
message.

I'd like a auto-reconnect feature at evolution. It could be configurable, in
the case of timeout it could - according to user's settings
- either keep trying
- or prompt to the user "what shall I do"
- or just throw an error message

There are some somehow related bug reports, eg
https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/46626
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1259434

but I guess, a cheap, but effective hack would be to make evolution just
a little more tolerant against net connection loss by trying to
autoconnect more patiently.

[Bug 1710637] Re: Input falls through to gdm3 and terminates the session on Ctrl+C after udevadm trigger is executed under wayland

2017-09-19 Thread Jamie Strandboge
I still have console-setup 1.166ubuntu4 so decided to poke at this more.
I can confirm that 'sudo udevadm trigger' causes the ctrl+c to logout of
Wayland. It does not cause a logout of gnome-shell under X. I then found
that 'udevadm trigger --subsystem-nomatch=tty' does not cause the issue
under wayland.

2017-09-19 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Closing the snappy task-- while we might want to adjust its use of
udevadm trigger, it is clear that running this command should not break
the wayland desktop, just like it doesn't under X.

@Mathieu, while I understand the wayland gnome-shell desktop session is
not supported on zesty or xenial, I wonder if this should be SRU'd to
those releases?

[Bug 1718083] Re: UIFe: Add Additional Printer Settings button

2017-09-19 Thread Didier Roche
** Description changed:

  Impact
  ==
The Ubuntu Desktop Team would like to add a button to the "Printers" part of
the Settings app (gnome-control-center) named "Additional Printer Settings"
that will open system-config-printer. system-config-printer has been part of
the Ubuntu default install for years.

  Justification
  ==
The GNOME integrated Printer Settings is nice but it still misses a few
settings that were easily configurable in Ubuntu 17.04. The most prominent
missing settings is Printer Sharing. See GNOME upstream bug
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/692532

Hopefully, we can drop the button before 18.04 LTS is released.

  Notifications
  =
+
+ At the same time, we'll replace one string in Ubuntu Dock settings from
+ "Screen Placement" to "Placement on Screen".

[Bug 1718231] [NEW] Mismatch in type-ahead search of the GTKFileChooser causes the first file to get the focus

2017-09-19 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 17.10 dev with libgtk-3-0 3.22.19-0ubuntu1 and
initially this issue was reported at
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=764668 . If the
GTKFileChooser gets opened and something is typed that causes a mismatch
the first file gets deselected but instead it gets now a focus (which it
hadn't before) which might be a bug.

Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a

[Bug 1716160] Re: System goes to sleep with lid closed after login

@Khurshid & @Daniel, that's a bug and not a configuration choice,
suspending on lid close is not supposed to be the default when an
external monitor is connected

[Bug 1715854] Re: Adding local mail server not possible

2017-09-19 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1669564] Re: udevadm trigger subsystem-match=net doesn't always run rules because of reconfiguration rate-limiting

2017-09-19 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Something similar got reported recently upstream, and I got a brand new
discovery that one should actually call $ udevadm control --reload ->
whenever configuration is changed, as upstream knows that all of their
internal state caching and reloading is racy.

Could you please modify your reproducer test case to have: udevadm
control --reload, before calling trigger action and check if this
resolves your issue?

If true, I believe netplan must call udevadm control --reload after
writing out anything that udevd reads, which is udev .rules files and
.link files.

It happened again just now. From the trace it looks like it was when I
searched for "gedit" in the overview - which has a snap result AFAIK.

[Bug 1710637] Re: Input falls through to gdm3 and terminates the session on Ctrl+C after udevadm trigger is executed under wayland

2017-09-19 Thread Oliver Grawert
please note that this rule will also likely be used inside the initrd to
set up the console for encyption key input and there will be no systemd
around ... you probably want to rather handle it conditionally so it is
still available when creating an initrd ...
