[Bug 1232606] Re: Nautilus freezes accessing Android via MTP when USB debugging enabled

2017-10-15 Thread Regular User
I'm getting the same error that #4 is getting with a Samsung Galaxy S5
Mini on ubuntu 16.04. Like with OP, disabling USB debugging fixed the
issue.

libmtp error: could not get object handles.

[Bug 1723634] Re: nautilus breadcrumbs left and right arrows serve no purpose

2017-10-15 Thread Cubic PPA
I am going to withdraw this bug.

I just realized that the left and right arrows are used to show the
beginning or ending of the path, respectively, when the path is too long
to fit in the horizontal space of the Nautilus header bar.

When the full path doesn't fit:
- Clicking the left arrow displays the previous parent directories. The user
can click multiple times until the root directory appears. At that point, the
left arrow button becomes inactive.
- Clicking the right arrow displays the next directories. The user can click
multiple times until the child directory appears. At that point, the right
arrow button becomes inactive.
- The left and right buttons are both inactive whenever the breadcrumbs can
show the full path to the current folder.

[Bug 1723835] [NEW] Dock - Clicking icon doesn't minimize

2017-10-15 Thread clickwir
Public bug reported:

I have open Firefox, it is maximized. Clicking on it's icon in the Dock
does nothing, I expect it would minimize Firefox. Unity, KDE and Windows
behave in this manor.

Window doesn't have to be maximized to show this behavior, clicking the
icon in the Dock will bring up a selection popup if there are multiple
instances of that application open, but if there is only one it does
nothing.

Tested with Gnome Terminal, Firefox, Chromium, Files, VLC, Terminator,
all behave the same.

[Bug 1723831] [NEW] Alt+Tab doesn't work for same application with multiple windows

2017-10-15 Thread clickwir
Public bug reported:

I open 2 File manager windows and also have other windows open. From the
side dock, I can switch between the 2 File manager windows. But Alt+Tab
doesn't swap back and forth like expected, it picks some other open
application and brings that to the front.

Tested this with Gnome Terminal and get the same result. Have open 2
terminals and a Firefox browser. I'd think Alt+Tab would switch between
them if they were both the current and last used window, but no, Firefox
comes to the front.

2017-10-15 Thread Robert Ancell
Fix is in lp:~ubuntu-desktop/gnome-software/ubuntu and ppa:ubuntu-
desktop/gnome-software (3.26.1-0ubuntu2~ppa1). Tested by installing
moon-buggy (crashes with archive version, fixed with new version).
Awaiting QA confirmation before release.

The fix is quite simple - it was a NULL pointer access accessing a
variable that got moved in the fix for bug 1718170. I think this is a
good candidate for uploading pre-release.

Changes upstream in master, gnome-3-26 and wip/ubutu-3-26 branches.

Xavier , as a workaround you can use the option nomodeset as boot option
and then disable wayland in custom.conf to start with xorg

[Bug 1723577] Re: Artfull won't start with wayland activated

2017-10-15 Thread Xavier Guillot
Same here, all worked fine until 6th October, since 7th impossible to
boot : screen stays frozen at the Ubuntu logo step, nothing works (even
Ctrl Alt F1).

Last line says "Started User Manager for UID 121"

lspci -nn | grep VGA
07:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
[AMD/ATI] Cape Verde XT [Radeon HD 7770/8760 / R7 250X] [1002:683d]

Today I booted on a USB and with chroot I updated my main Ubuntu 17.10
partition, it didn't solve the issue...

The worst thing one can do it so maintain his position instead of apologising
after being rude and being called out on that.
At least one workaround was proposed even in this very thread.

[Bug 1723362] Re: gnome-software spams error messages to journald and causes 100% CPU usage

then the last two lines again and again :

Oct 15 15:38:10 XXX gnome-software[4142]: g_byte_array_remove_range: assertion

It filled my /var partition with a 5g syslog file in less than an hour.
Computer almost completely freeze (gradually, up to nothing responding at
all). I managed to figure out that syslog was the issue, save it and delete it
from /var just in time. "apt upgrade" was stuck for 10/15 minutes at "
Generating /boot/initrd.img" step.

This bug might have had serious consequences.

Symptoms *observed*, again, were that I was logged out when I returned
to the computer the following afternoon.

So this happened twice in quick succession. The above fragment is from a
'grep gnome-shell syslog.1', I can provide a fuller log if anyone's
interested, but there was no /var/run/crash file generated from this
event.

[Bug 1723577] Re: Artfull won't start with wayland activated

Rather a GDM bug. I it doesn't get stuck on Plymouth, it starts up the
“Ubuntu“ gnome-shell session reliably for me.

[Bug 1723577] Re: Artfull won't start with wayland activated

2017-10-15 Thread amano
If I get past Plymouth and into GDM (I have to try 4 times to succeed),
I can log into the “Ubuntu“ session reliably. So I think that this bug
is rather a GDM one than a gnome-shell one.

[Bug 1723577] Re: Artfull won't start with wayland activated

2017-10-15 Thread amano
For me it worked reliably the whole development cycle until the week
leading up to the 7th of October. It is borked just for about a week
now. On the 5th of October I remember it being fine, it was borked when
starting Ubuntu up on the morning of October 7th.

Now it seems like a dealbreaker worth debugging (if I knew where to
start).

[Bug 1723577] Re: Artfull won't start with wayland activated

2017-10-15 Thread amano
Even after the updates of today (with the new kernel and the gnome-shell
crash fix) the boot splash is getting stuck most of the time (certainly
3 out of 4 tries).

Only switching to the nvidia 340 blob fixes that (then it boots
reliably, not showing Plymouth at all).

I don't think that it is a Plymouth bug, but GDM crashing when trying to
bring up Wayland.

Since it crashes that early I don't think that it is related to mutter
or gnome-shell at all. Or does GDM use mutter these days?

[S]Does apport leave a crash log in /var/crash/ with Ubuntu freezing or
crashing that early?[/S] EDIT: Nope, no crash log in /var/crash/ at all
:(

A regression in X? In Mesa?
