[Bug 1731296] Re: GNOME Software app not shown as "Ubuntu Software" in Unity 17.10

2017-11-18 Thread Khurshid Alam
I like proposal #1. Ubuntu-software is not unity specific but rather
Ubuntu specific. Other desktop-shell may want to use that Ubuntu
branding. If they want that they only need to provide a override in
/usr/share//applications/ & install ubuntu-software. But
only if they want. So we can dismiss #2 as it would be over-patching
things.

[Bug 1733154] [NEW] file-roller displays incorrect dates for archived RAR files

2017-11-18 Thread Paul White
Public bug reported:

Archive Manager displays incorrect dates for archived RAR files.

RAR and UNRAR 5.50 from the Ubuntu archives are installed.

Files as displayed in terminal:

-rw-rw-r-- 1 paul paul628 Dec 13 2016 backup.sh
-rw-r--r-- 1 paul paul 211170 Feb 15 2014 eamwg.txt
-rw-r--r-- 1 paul paul 11374 Feb 15 2014 freenode.txt
-rw-rw-r-- 1 paul paul 60603 Nov 19 06:32 info.ods

-rw-r--r-- 1 paul paul 11470 Nov 13 23:30 thebill.txt

Compare the above file dates, which are correct, with those in the
attached screenshots. Obviously they are incorrect as all of the dates
are in the future, actually post 2019.

[Bug 1733136] [NEW] gnome-shell no longer offers wayland session in Ubuntu 18.04

2017-11-18 Thread Rocko
Public bug reported:

I upgraded to 18.04 and I no longer get an option to run a wayland
session (17.10 offered both the default ubuntu wayland session and xorg
on this laptop).

The upgrade did force me to remove bumblebee and nvidia, but afterwards
I manually reinstalled bumblebee and nvidia-387 and reset to using intel
via prime-select (installing nvidia changes some of the symlinks so that
gnome-shell no longer boots, but "sudo prime-select intel" fixes this).

The nvidia-387 modules are blacklisted in /etc/modprobe.d, and bumblebee
isn't reporting any errors - bbswitch reports that the nvidia card is
off, so I don't think it's an issue with hybrid graphics. (primusrun
does work, as well.)

Attached are the mutter logs that I generated via the environment
variables mentioned in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1724583 comment #20.
I suspect that the culprit is hinted at in this message:

[Bug 1733127] [NEW] Session crashes when monitor is disconnected

2017-11-18 Thread Jobjörn Folkesson
Public bug reported:

The user session crashes when I disconnect the DVI cable from my
computer (which I do to connect another monitor instead). A similar
problem is described in two recent questions on AskUbuntu:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/969376/how-to-keep-graphical-session-
running-in-17-10-when-external-screen-is-turned-of

https://askubuntu.com/questions/969510/ubuntu-17-10-logs-out-when-
monitor-is-detached

I could not find a related bug report to subscribe to so here I am. I
would except the session to be available as if nothing had happened when
I reconnect the screen, or at most that the session is locked (but still
running).

These are the system logs from when I tested it twice, at 00:26:50 and
at 00:28:30. (I'm not sure if the rfkill message is related.)

[Bug 1733118] [NEW] flash drive stops working after upgrade

2017-11-18 Thread stsp
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to 17.04, nautilus stops
opening the inserted flash drives. It gives:

Unable to open a folder for DRIVENAME

No application is registered as handling this file

The fix was found here:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/583375/access-to-usb-drive-broken-after-changing-uid
You need to remove /media/username directory
for it to work again.

I checked and the only difference I've
found is that before removal the dir has:
drwxr-x--- 2 root root
and after removal:
drwxr-x---+ 3 root root

So it seems newer nautilus can't work if
there are no ACL assigned to the dir?

[Bug 1733103] [NEW] DNS hostname resolution fails intermittently

2017-11-18 Thread Horst Schirmeier
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to 17.10, hostname resolution (via, e.g., Firefox or the
"host" command-line tool) does not work reliably anymore. Once hostname
resolution fails (Firefox 57: "Hmm. We're having trouble finding that
site."), manually resolving the host via "systemd-resolve" succeeds and
temporarily allows Firefox to also resolve that host. After a few
minutes, resolution of the same host fails again.

Example with command-line "host" utility:

$ host www.heise.de
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
$ cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
# 127.0.0.53 is the systemd-resolved stub resolver.
# run "systemd-resolve --status" to see details about the actual nameservers.

[Bug 1728449] Re: Indicator icons do not appear after upgrade to Ubuntu 17.10

2017-11-18 Thread Tim Passingham
Marco - If you are referring to my comments, I freely admit my linux
knowledge is very limited.

As a client upgrading from 17.04 I do not, and seemingly have no way of
knowing, what a valid configuration is in this respect. I'm not using
Unity any more, and am using Ubuntu (Xorg) rather than the explicit
GNOME login.

[Bug 1732991] [NEW] I can't use mouse buttons to navigate Ubuntu Desktop Guide

2017-11-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Extra mouse buttons work elsewhere in the system, e.g., in Nautilus and
Firefox, but not in the Desktop Guide. I'd expect to be able to browse
forwards and backwards with the extra mouse buttons. I suspect that this
is a bug. Tested in Ubuntu 17.10, Wayland session.
