[Bug 1759462] [NEW] Keyboard shortcuts not operational on 18.04

2018-03-27 Thread Dustin Krysak
Public bug reported:

After installing 18.04, I noticed that certain keyboard shortcuts no
longer function.

It appears to be related to the shortcuts that gnome-settings-daemon
control as my shortcuts that are provided by my desktop (Budgie) still
function.

Some examples are:

* Media keys for volume up/down/mute
* ctrl-alt-t for the terminal. I tried changing the shortcut to test. Same
behaviour.

I double checked, and it looks like the needed daemon is still running,

Reboot does not seem to help. However, occasionally the shortcuts do

[Bug 1665126] Re: Snaps do not show in categories

2018-03-27 Thread Robert Ancell
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ Snaps are not shown in categories.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ 1. Open GNOME Software
+ 2. Select "Games" category at the bottom of the page.
+ 3. Select "All"
+ 4. Look for pin-town (a snap game)
+
+ Expected result:
+ Game is shown
+
+ Observed result:
+ Game is not shown.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Loading snap information in category screens could trigger new bugs.
+
  1- I uploaded a snap on myapps.developer.ubuntu.com
2- I choose Category: Games (note that I cannot choose a sub-category (Kids))
3- Default type: ? (I choose application, but not sure what it does exactly)
4- Opening Ubuntu Software on Ubuntu 16.04 I can find and install it when
using the search bar
5- BUT my application is not listed in any categories, not even in Games - All
6- After installing the application, I can see it listed in Games - Kids
(because the .desktop file have this entry Categories=Game;KidsGame?)

Looks like only .deb are listed in categories within Ubuntu Software?

[Bug 1754422] Re: [MIR] volume-key

Sadly, the project is not new at all (although it's only in Debian now
because of udisks2). The current release packaged in Ubuntu, 0.3.9, was
released in 2012.

[Bug 1754422] Re: [MIR] volume-key

2018-03-27 Thread Seth Arnold
I reviewed volume-key version 0.3.9-3 as checked into bionic. This should
not be considered a full security audit but rather a quick gauge of
maintainability.

- No CVEs in our database.
- volume-key's main purpose is to provide some key escrow capabilities for
  encrypted storage

- Build-Depends: debhelper, libglib2.0-dev, libcryptsetup-dev,
  libnss3-dev, libgpgme11-dev, libblkid-dev, swig, python-dev,
  libnss3-tools
- Does not daemonize
- No networking
- Does Cryptography
- No pre/post inst/rm
- No init scripts
- No systemd unit files
- No dbus services
- No setuid files
- volume_key in PATH
- No sudo fragments
- No udev rules
- There is a test suite but it doesn't appear useful as a quality tool
- No cron jobs
- Some warnings in the build logs, not ideal

- No subprocesses spawned
- I found some probable errors in memory management, but mostly good:
  - kmip_decode_object_symmetric_key() return -1 case leaks res?
  - kmip_decode_key_value() default: case leaks res?
  - kmip_decode_object_secret_data() return -1 case leaks res?
- Files opened are controlled by the user
- Logging looked careful
- No privileged operations
- Extensive cryptographic operations
- No networking
- No privileged portions of code
- No temp files
- No WebKit
- No JavaScript
- Clean cppcheck
- No PolicyKit

I don't like promoting this package to main already. The tests shouldn't
be failing in a brand-new project. The fact that nss's certutil's use of
UpdateRNG() does a bunch of garbage with the terminal and prints lies
about what it is doing suggests that certutil itself is not suitable for
use by this project:

https://sources.debian.org/src/nss/2:3.35-2/nss/cmd/certutil/keystuff.c/?hl=67#L67

I'd be much happier promoting volume-key for 18.10.

However, we've already gotten complaints from our users that their
encrypted storage no longer works because the old mechanism has apparently
already been torn down.

If there's no way to bring back the old mechanism, then..

Security team begrudging ACK for promoting volume-key to main. But I'd be
happier if we could just bring back what used to work.

Thanks

[Bug 1730554] Re: gnome-shell (3.24.2) crashed with segfault

2018-03-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
A bug can only stay open if it has useful information to help someone
fix it, and this one does not (yet).

Crash files should not be attached to bugs because we generally can't
debug them without extra retracing. Please only send crash files using
the 'ubuntu-bug' command.

Bugs are often overloaded with many different people commenting on them.
For a crash bug this is a problem, because it's highly likely each
person is actually experiencing a different crash with the same apparent
symptoms. So everyone please only report crashes using:

  ubuntu-bug /var/crash/YOURFILE.crash

But if you are not running the current development release of Ubuntu
then you will need to apply a workaround from bug 994921 before that
will work.

Finally, release 17.04 is no longer supported after January 13, 2018. So
please be sure to upgrade to a supported version of Ubuntu:

Jeremy just let me know that "Hmm" means this:

An alternative to the proposal in the debdiff might be to change line
112 in dh_translations from

@cmd=('make', $domain . '.pot');

@cmd=('make', $domain . '.pot-update');

in order to force an update without the rename trick. This might benefit
other packages as well.

[Bug 1716159] Re: gdm greeter does not allow non-US characters (like euro character €) when typing password

2018-03-27 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
In any case I think that the claim in the bug summary and description is
not correct. I just tested with a password including both € and ö and
could log in using GDM just fine.

@Franck: I suspect that some other keyboard layout but the one you
expect is enabled for the login screen. Can you please let us know what
these two terminal commands output:

cat /etc/default/keyboard

gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.input-sources sources

Also, to easier be able to guide you if needed, can you please let us
know if you are using a one user system or if more than one user account
have been created.

[Bug 1754852] Re: Steam Installer cannot be found using GNOME Software anymore

2018-03-27 Thread Simon Quigley
> Personally, I'd like to just remove the steam .deb packages in Ubuntu

Do the installers work correctly in LTS releases? If they don't, then I
agree, it's a candidate for removal.

> 2. It breaks badly with the "Install Steam" .deb you can find on the
Steam website.

Could you elaborate?

> I'd like us to just offer the Steam Snap that Solus is working on
("Linux Steam Integration"). I hope that will be ready in time for
Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.

I'm personally hesitant to endorse removals "just because there's a
snap" but if it bitrots over time/is insecure then I think it certainly
needs to be removed.

[Bug 1754422] Re: [MIR] volume-key

2018-03-27 Thread Seth Arnold
The security review is underway. I'm sad that tracking this test case
failure down is as complicated as it is -- the code feels overly-
generic, tracking call chains through to where anything is *done* is
harder than other code bases. Each individual line of code looks fine
but getting a handle on the big picture is difficult.

Thanks

[Bug 1624644] Re: By default settings unattended-upgrade does not automatically remove packages that become unused in conjunction with updating by other software

2018-03-27 Thread Balint Reczey
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * Update-manager and unattended-upgrades install many kernel packages during
the lifetime of a release but does not remove them automatically leading to
those packages filling disk space potentially completely filling /boot and
making the system unable to install updates or even boot.
+ * Stable release users are impacted by this bug for years and their systems
already collected many autoremovable unused kernel packages, thus they would
benefit from backporting the fix greatly.
+ * The bug is fixed by removing autoremovable (not currently booted) kernel
packages when running unattended-upgrades or update-manager. Update manager
offers the kernel removals when there are other updates to be installed.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ 1. Install kernel packages to be removed, mark them auto-installed and
+ run apt's kernel hook script to make apt consider them autoremovable:
+
+ sudo apt install -y linux-image-extra-4.4.0-92-generic
linux-image-extra-4.4.0-93-generic
+ sudo apt-mark auto linux-image-extra-4.4.0-92-generic
linux-image-extra-4.4.0-93-generic
+ sudo /etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal
+
+ 2. Also downgrade a package to be upgraded:
+
+sudo apt-get install -y ca-certificates=20160104ubuntu1
+
+ 3. (update-manager). Run update-manager and observe that kernel
+ packages are offered for removal in Details of updates.
+
+ sudo update-manager
+
+ 4. (update-manager) Click on Install Now and observe that the kernel
+ packages are removed.
+
+ 3. (unattended-upgrades) Run unattended-upgrades manually and observe
+ the removal of the autoremovable kernel packages:
+
+ sudo unattended-upgrade -v
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ The change may cause update-manager or unattanded-upgrades to remove
+ used kernel packages or fail to install other package updates.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ The unattended-upgrades fix is uploaded with many other fixes and those may
cause regressions in other areas in unattended-upgrades.
+
+ [Original bug text]
+
When using default settings for unattended-upgrade i.e.
  Unattended-Upgrade::Remove-Unused-Dependencies "false";
  # default "false"
  Unattended-Upgrade::Remove-New-Unused-Dependencies "true";
  # default "true"
  in configuration file /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades,
unattended-upgrade is unable to remove packages that become unused in
conjunction with updating by other software such as update-manager or apt
full-upgrade. This is because unattended-upgrade compares the list of unneeded
packages before and after it upgrades packages to detect which packages are new
unused ones.

Consequently, if user installs new kernels using e.g. update-manager,
the excessive kernels will not be removed by unattended-upgrade, and
eventually (small) /boot will become full.

Expected behavior: handle removing of unused packages differently at
least until other package management software installed by default can
handle removing of new unused packages.

  Package: unattended-upgrades 0.90

[Bug 1758563] Re: Blocked at gdm login screen on 18.04 if user password has a circumflex accent

2018-03-27 Thread Xavier Guillot
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1716159 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1716159

Hi, I made some more testings.

First, I just updated my laptop to Ubuntu 17.10 : I confirm that writing
"û" with circumflex accent still worked on artful and that password is
accepted. It's like on my computer home : from Artful until 18.04 alpha,
it worked in gdm with a "û" character. Since 10th March updates, no
more.

On Ubuntu 17.10, on the contrary to bug 1716159, I still can type the
Euro symbol € in the login field and it is well written... I will check
later for current 18.04.

To resume :

gdm :

Debian Stretch 3.22.3 Type "u with circumflex
accent" = û
Ubuntu 17.10 updated 03-27-2018 3.26.1 Type "u with circumflex
accent" = û
Ubuntu 18.04 > 10th March 2018 3.27.92 Type "u with circumflex
accent" = u

I made an upstream bug report to gdm in Gnome to see if there has been on their
side a modification in code which made this circumflex accent no more writable
and then password refused :

[Bug 1759325] [NEW] PC suspends after 20 minutes at the login screen

2018-03-27 Thread Graham Inggs
Public bug reported:

After upgrading a fresh install of 16.04 to 18.04, my desktop PC now
suspends after 20 minutes at the login screen.

This change in default probably comes from this commit:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-settings-daemon/commit/2fdb48fa

The behaviour also changed for my user account, but I was able to
override that by adjusting the power settings in gnome-control-center.
I see no obvious way of overriding the default for the system.

[Bug 1746728] Re: Uninstalling VLC using Ubuntu Software does not uninstall the actual application

2018-03-27 Thread Jeremy Bicha
According to the specifications, the binary should be included in the
same package as the .desktop and the AppStream metadata.

Therefore, unless there is a good reason otherwise, it would be better
for the vlc-bin package to be dropped and its contents moved to the vlc
package.

(There are rare exceptions to this policy.)

Would someone be willing to file a bug against the vlc package in Debian
for this issue?

[Bug 1750403] Re: Live Session - Increased memory usage with preinstalled snap (fails to start with - gnome-session timeout)

2018-03-27 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Originally it was 1GB. I think the increased memory usage is caused by snapd
that unsquashes the snaps.
The other issue is that gnome-shell times out which may or may not be related
to the extra delay imposed by snapd. This point must be verified.

[Bug 1755514] Re: Clicking the "Additional Printer Settings…" button launches system-config-printer multiple times

2018-03-27 Thread Till Kamppeter
For me it looks like a bug in gnome-control-center.

When clicking the button, it should be checked whether there is already
a system-config-printer process running. If so, the window of it should
be pulled to the front, if not, s-c-p should get started.

In addition, it must be made sure that the button action happens only
once when one clicks the button once, and not repeatedly as long as the
button is held down. The reports of some users that they get 7 instances
of s-c-p with a single click on the button looks like that in the few
milliseconds while they have the left mouse button down the action of
starting s-c-p is repeated in quick frequence.

So these issues need to get fixed in g-c-c.

[Bug 1759299] [NEW] Nautilus cannnot modify file in 1st folder of NFS share

2018-03-27 Thread Feydreva
Public bug reported:

It seems nautilus cannot write / modify the mainfolder of a NFS share.
Other sub folder are ok.

There is my original post on Ask Ubuntu
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1000973/nautilus-cannot-write-into-1st-directory-of-a-nfs-share/1012455#1012455

I have a synology NAS. On the client I create the directory :

mkdir /media/feydreva/download
chown -R feydreva /media/feydreva
chmod 777 /media/feydreva/download

I can mount my NFS without any issue :

sudo mount -t nfs 10.2.1.3:/volume1/download /media/feydreva/download

I can create file and directories into it

mkdir /media/feydreva/download/AAA
touch /media/feydreva/download/.test

But, when I use ubuntu explorer (nautilus), annd I go to that directory,
I cannot create new folder. I cannot save file into it. I can go into
the AAA directory, and here I can create folder and save file.

Interresting thing is that with Libreoffice, I can create a directory
and save a file into /media/feydreva/download/ ,only nautilus cannot.

id : uid=1026(feydreva) gid=1000(feydreva)
groupes=1000(feydreva),4(adm),24(cdrom),27(sudo),30(dip),46(plugdev),118(lpadmin),128(sambashare)

getfacl : suppression du premier « / » des noms de chemins absolus
# file: media/feydreva/download
# owner: feydreva
# group: feydreva
user::rwx
group::r-x
other::r-x

so today (02022018) : I tried changing the uid of "feydreva" my PC, to
match the one of "feydreva" on the NAS. So i changee the uid to 1026. I
did a sudo chown -R feydreva:feydreva /media/feydreva/download I still
have the same exact issue: cannot write on /media/feydreva/download, but
can in /media/feydreva/download/ using nautilus, works fine in
console/bsh or libreoffice..

Basicaly, any other program can modify in the NFS share except Nautilus.
PCManFM works properly

Changing to rls-bb-notfixing, that's wayland specific which is not our
default session and lacks info, we can target the xwayland issue if we
get proper reports that tell us more about the bug
