[Bug 1758306] Re: Cannot switch mouse primary button in GCC

2018-04-01 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Thanks for your report.

It works fine for me on g-c-c 1:3.28.0-0ubuntu6.

The command line way to set it for left-handed is:

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.mouse left-handed true

and to see the current setting:

gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.mouse left-handed

Changing that value is what the GUI in g-c-c is for. Can you please
check, through the latter command, if the value is changed when you use
g-c-c?

[Bug 1623666] Re: iOS device contents not displayed in Ubuntu

2018-04-01 Thread William F Hammond
Following up to my #49:

I'm working with Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS.

The Martin Salbaba ppa had been working for me with an iphone 5 and iOS
10.3

Recently I went to a new phone running iOS 11, and I fail to get to
photos with ifuse after an apparently successful "idevicepair pair".
Ifuse complains about "lockdownd".

The libimobiledevice packages show version
1.2.0+git20161018-3salbabix27xenial.

The ifuse package shows version 1.1.2-0.1build3.

At bug 1718554, there is the suggestion of a procedure for re-building
from source. It is said that this will fix the problem. I have not
tried it. I would rather have an updated package rather than blindly
follow building-from-source instructions.

Question: Is the Martin Salbaba ppa the standard location for the
libimobiledevice6 and libimobiledevice-utils packages? If not, where?

2018-04-01 Thread Stephen Allen
Still happening - surely I'm not the only person that uses a mouse left
handed?! Can someone look at this please?

** Description changed:

- Prior to yesterday's Bionic update, I had my mouse configured for left handed
use. That is the mouse primary button being switched to the right. GCC doesn't
seem to work for this now. I don't know if it's related to evdev or what.

Held back reporting this in case it was fixed by changes overnight. Updated

[Bug 1718554] Re: Need updated libimobiledevice to mount IOS 11 devices

2018-04-01 Thread William F Hammond
I wish to second the request of #5 that working access to photos on
iphones be kept up to date in xenial. For the credibility of xenial's
LTS status this should be done.

Up to the recent time of a new device with iOS 11, I had things working with
iOS 10.3 using
Martin Salbaba's ppa for the packages libimobiledevice6 and
libimobiledevice-utils.

Even going for a ppa raises unnecessary system maintenance work for
something as basic as retrieving photos from a phone.

My impression is that there have been repeated stumbling blocks related
to the issue of whether iOS wants ssl or tls. I would like to hope that
ubuntu at runtime can decide to go either way even if iOS (which should
be able to go either way) cannot. (Maybe this is an
oversimplification.)

[Bug 1760501] [NEW] Photo display fail when scrolling large collection (blank screen) on 4k display

2018-04-01 Thread Joseph Maillardet
Public bug reported:

On my 3200x1800 monitor, when browsing my photo collection (Library >
Photo), after scrolling something like 20 to 30 screens, the thumbnail
window blank. After, I only see the grey colour of my gtk theme where is
normally show images thumbnails.

If I scroll back or change folder and back to Library>Photo, the problem
is not solved. But, if I scroll back sufficiently and change folder and
came back, thumbnail display is restored until I scroll down to the
limit again...

[Bug 1760482] Re: Translation files for Synaptic are missing

2018-04-01 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Yes, they were, but the package change happened a couple of hours after
the export which preceded the creation of the latest language packs.
Consequently the translations will show up again after next langpack
update.

2018-04-01 Thread Plamen
Awesome observation Chris,
Now that you mention it, I also have other DE installed. But the issue appears
without login into any of them beforehand.

I've noticed that sometimes when I login into other DE -> logout -> and login
again to gnome the apps works normally. Not sure which one I have a few.

[Bug 1754872] Re: gnome-control-center is unusable on xubuntu-desktop, but called from Gear (About this Computer, System Settings) icon, Text Entry Settings, clock (Time & Date Settings)

2018-04-01 Thread Norbert
@dino99

Again. I have had pretty small clean installation of mini.iso. Then I
installed `xubuntu-desktop` meta-package. I do not have other desktops
installed. This method is normal and useful. It worked normally for
years. I'm using it for `ubuntu-mate-desktop` without issues.

So you guys, have wrong dependency-trees. Usually I do not care about
Xfce (but I like it for simple design and minimalism), and you can of
course ignore my comments and actions. But do not be surprised at
similar reports when the final release is released.

I still hope for understanding.

[Bug 1754872] Re: gnome-control-center is unusable on xubuntu-desktop, but called from Gear (About this Computer, System Settings) icon, Text Entry Settings, clock (Time & Date Settings)

2018-04-01 Thread dino99
Hello Norbert

Such cases are expected:
- each DE have its own environment and architecture that can be compatible with
an other one, or not.
- In fact the relationship between them does not really exist, and testing has
not been done to resolve the possible conflict.

Lot of reports have been sent since ages by users discovering free OSs
and testing and mixing different DEs. The result is quite often the
same: most of the time it ends by a clean reinstall.

But the future, when snap installation will become mature and stable,
will allow such freedom.

So the actual logic might declare such report as 'wont fix'

[Bug 1754872] Re: gnome-control-center is unusable on xubuntu-desktop, but called from Gear (About this Computer, System Settings) icon, Text Entry Settings, clock (Time & Date Settings)

2018-04-01 Thread Norbert
Dear Sean!

It seems you do not understand bug description.
I install `xubuntu-desktop` task-package from mini.iso on 18.04 LTS with `sudo
apt-get install xubuntu-desktop`.

What is the difference with "a base install of Xubuntu"? What is wrong is this
method?
Users should be able to install desktop task as they want. Clean installation
is not an option for some (or most do not really sure) users.

I attach the list of installed packages. I do not have other desktops
installed.

You should check this again. It may be dependency problem or something
similar.

Checked again today - installed xubuntu-desktop from mini.iso.

It does not just happen when opening the main overview.

Even when you click on the network/volume/power panel applet and the

Just repeatedly click on the network/volume/power panel applet and watch
gnome-shell memory usage grow in system monitor with each click.

In journalctl -b is the same error message regarding totem.

So, now I have additionally installed lxqt and I can say, it ist definitly a
problem in budgie! Why ever.
In lxqt totem plays the video perfect.

Can you change it to budgie?

[Bug 1754691] [NEW] Missing IP address info in Gnome Network Indicator pulldown

2018-04-01 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

In order to support end-users using Ubuntu over the telephone it is often
necessary to request the user to tell you their IP address. In previous
versions of ubuntu it was in two clicks Network, Network Status.

For some reason this information is no longer available in 18.04LTS Beta
1. This makes it very difficult to support.

It is unreasonable and not-secure for end users to be opening the
terminal to identify the IP address. Even if that is how Windows does
it, Ubuntu has always been better on supportability.

Steps to reproduce:
Click the combined Network, Volume, Power indicator dropdown
Click Wired Connected
Click Wired Settings

No IP, MAC, Gateway information shown. No useful information at all in
fact.

What should happen:
Click the Network Icon
Click Network Information
A dialog box (that you can copy paste from) with all the network information
IP, MAC, Gateway are shown.

[Bug 1756508] Re: Gnome-shell CPU load dramatically high and stuck high with Eclipse

2018-04-01 Thread Alex B
Update.
I stopped using Eclipse on Ubuntu for now, but I'm just facing the same problem
again, now with Emacs 25.2.1. It appeared when I maximised the window and then
tried to reduce it.
gnome-shell CPU load reached 95% and after a while decreased down to 70%, but
it's not stable, sometime increases again to some peaks...
Seems not Eclipse related and seems Emacs too can trigger the same troubles.
Please tell me if you need further logs - not sure I can reuse the same
reference as above for apport-collect...

[Bug 1760274] Re: videos are stuttering extremely

2018-04-01 Thread dino99
Then it looks like a libglib2.0-0 error, which is totem dependency.
Maybe related to your hardware/mem.

Checking the totem settings, via dconf (dconf-editor), all the options here are
'off' except the first one 'autoload-chapters'
(org.gnome.totem)

Note: #4 expose glib error, but #6 says no error !!!
Note2: is there some 'journalctl -b' related error when you double click on a
mp4 video to be played via totem ?

[Bug 1760399] [NEW] New On-screen keyboard cannot be manually triggered to appear

2018-04-01 Thread Amr Ibrahim
Public bug reported:

I have always used an on-screen keyboard as a virtual keyboard for
entering text in a different layout than my physical keyboard. This time
I cannot, since I cannot manually trigger the new OSK.

Steps:

1. Open Firefox
2. Try to enter text in a different layout using the new OSK
3. You cannot make the OSK appear

When enabled, the new OSK appears automatically in Activities, but I
cannot trigger it outside GNOME apps. You have to enable the new OSK
first from Universal Access in Settings.

I consider this a regression from 16.04 LTS, where On-board is easily
triggered.

Workaround:

sudo apt install onboard
