Since Ubuntu updated to gjs 1.52.1-1, our bug tracking systems are
unable to automatically retrace crashes. This has created a sudden wave
of crash reports that we can't automatically classify.

For example, this is what LP: #1748450/LP: #1505409 looks like now:

  #0 raise (sig=) at ../sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/raise.c:51

[Bug 1764216] Re: [regression] Unreadable stack traces since upgrading to gjs 1.52.1

2018-04-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This report:

https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/7576bbf83cb88a0b3a870e1371dd86416b23c4b3

suggests the wave of unreadable stack traces this morning was perhaps
due to an update to glib2.0, because:

/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libglib-2.0.so.0.5600.0 (deleted)

So they are almost certainly all duplicates of bug 1748450, un-
retracable due to the upgrade procedure of glib2.0. The good news is
that the wave of un-retracable crashes should stop after everyone has
upgraded.

[Bug 1762261] Re: Bug in Ubuntu patch for synaptics support prevents me configuring my touchpad same as previous Ubuntu releases

2018-04-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Unfortunately gnome-shell applies each setting on startup, we only
changed what applying the setting means. Applying nothing at all is not
an option, and not something we introduced.

I suggest you either:
  (a) Uninstall xserver-xorg-input-synaptics, so you're no longer using the
patch code; or
  (b) You use the 'synclient' command to customize your preferences and apply
them automatically at login via 'gnome-session-properties'.

[Bug 1763892] [NEW] 144Hz/120Hz monitor but Wayland sessions seem to cap rendering at 60FPS

2018-04-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Monitor is set to 144hz, but on Wayland it visually fails to go above
60Hz. On XOrg it runs higher and feels much smoother. I have
confirmed the monitor is running at 144Hz during the Wayland session,
and that is also the setting in the Settings control panel.

Using the additional NVidia drivers installed using the Ubuntu software
control panel.

[Bug 1763736] Re: communitheme snap not present in gnome software on bionic, but it is on 16.04

2018-04-15 Thread Robert Ancell
I'm not sure why it seems to show for you in 16.04 but not for me, but
I'm going to propose we change the icon anyway.

[Bug 1681269] Re: Launcher Type=link, can not be opened with other application

2018-04-15 Thread Rob Peters
OK, I had to go back and think about this for a moment since I am no
longer on 17.04. I have tested this issue on both Ubuntu as well as
Ubuntu Bodgie, both on 18.04 and the same thing is happening with
Nautilus as the default.

To duplicate the issue, take the desktop file below, save it to the desktop as
calendar.desktop.
Then, right click on the file. You should be able to open it with gedit.
However, if it loads, gedit is empty or contains the last buffer from the
previous file edited. You can't set permissions on the desktop file with a
right click e.g. set it executable.

[Bug 1763736] Re: communitheme snap not present in gnome software on bionic, but it is on 16.04

2018-04-15 Thread Robert Ancell
The short answer is the snap package doesn't have an icon set in the
store. Set that and it will show.

The longer answer is in 16.04 we use the "package-x-generic" icon, but
that doesn't seem to work anymore, I think due to GNOME Software having
changed the way it uses themes.

The generic icon support was dropped by upstream in the 18.04 version,
so we need to distro patch it back in.

I'll also look at using the new icon the store uses:
https://assets.ubuntu.com/v1/6fbb3483-snapcraft-default-snap-icon.svg

[Bug 1657016] Re: Desktop icons zoom automatically if folder icons are zoomed

2018-04-15 Thread Ads20000
>From Files 3.28 onwards (3.28 is the latest upstream version and 3.30
will presumably be used in Ubuntu 18.10), desktop icons are handled by a
GNOME extension and not by Files. I have thus filed this bug against the
GNOME Extension, it is up to Ubuntu developers, not upstream, to fix the
bug (if they feel the behavior is not intended) in Files 3.26 and
earlier on earlier Ubuntu releases. They may want to wait first to see
what how GNOME treats the issue with the Extension, though :)

[Bug 1681269] Re: Launcher Type=link, can not be opened with other application

2018-04-15 Thread Ads20000
Hi Rob can you clarify what's happening here? When I do this (Files 3.26
on Ubuntu 17.10) it opens the webpage in Text Editor (rather than the
launcher), is that the bug you're reporting and can you reproduce it on
Ubuntu 17.10 or 18.04? :) Marking Incomplete for now (please change to
New if you're able to reproduce on 14.04, 16.04, 17.10 or 18.04 and can
clarify the process of reproducing the bug here!) :)

Pretty sure this is fixed on Files 3.26 on Ubuntu 17.10. If you can
reproduce the bug on a supported Ubuntu release (14.04, 16.04, or 17.10)
or the development release (18.04) then, if the former, please post
asking for the bug to be marked as affecting the relevant series (e.g.
Xenial (for 16.04)) or, if the latter, please change the bug's status to
'New' and report upstream at

that I'm unable to reproduce it).
